A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ELITE HS RUNNER [ VLOG ]

- This was a day in the life video of an elite runner training high altitude. We always start our days with a good breakfast and then our run. This run was a little more difficult than normal, but still a good run. It was at the skyline trail in big bear. After our run we went home ate and showered. Usually after that we will either go to the lake or the village, but in this video it was raining so instead we took it as a chance to clean the house and get some editing done. When the rain cleared we drove over to dank donuts for their taco Tuesday special. We love going there since they have all types of special meats like head, tongue, gut, and knuckles. After we ate we went over to the village for some sweets. Leo got 1/4lb of peanut butter recess fudge, and Lex got an assortment of chocolates. We then drove home. We typically will go to bed anytime between 9:30 and 11:30.

Excellent work with this vlog guys! The Sahlman brothers are my relatives, so it's really nice to see them training. Wishing you guys a great season and another national championship win at NXN.
thank you! oh ok nice, they are working very hard and running great. thanks!
Just wanna say as someone who graduated highschool and still running for my own gratification, I respect your grind a lot
This guy deserves way more subscribers!!! The content quality is out of this world 🌍🏃♂️
It’s two guys they’re twins
lol
@@Owen-Lindseth lmaoooo
I was just about to fall asleep and then somehow my brain reminded me of Lex eating a napkin in this video and the fact that I never pointed it out. So here I am and goodnight guys.😂
The quality behind those video is simply WooW! Amazing guys great job
thank you one of our main goals in this is to create quality running content that is well produced.
You know you’re a runner when you call the first taco’s preliminary tacos 😂
Yup, I think most of us finished eating like 10
I love how this video is like effortlessly funny
great content! excited to see what nphs xctf can do this season!!
Yes for sure. I think it will be one to remember.
Quality content!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Glad you think so!
Dang Sean, cucumbers and celery for dessert🤯
great video!!
elite⁉️⁉️⁉️ more like legendary‼️‼️‼️🥶🥶🥶🥶❌🧢🥵🥵🥵
Nah ur legendary were are mere novices
you guys should do an everything i eat in a day, people (including me) love those
thats a good Idea maybe we will, we just eat very different things everyday and we don't have much of a strict diet.
Quality content ‼️
not until your in it
Cantu got the nice dance moves lmao 🤣🤣
yeah he's smooth
omg the thunder ⚡️⚡️it’s growling
it was scarier in person 😂
Here we go another video
Nice Furman shirt coach Sean. Go Dins 😈
Ugh I love these vlogs you guys rock. What camera do you use?? :) Also Congratufuckinglations on this past weekend!!!
Thanks so much!! We shoot mostly on a fujifilm Xt-4, but the running stuff is on a gopro hero 9
It's crazy you guys are just normal high schoolers I thought you guys would be living the optimal performance lifestyle but you eat ice cream, stay up late, watch movies, etc. I guess maybe that stuff doesn't matter too much as long as you do the right thing before the races and train smart
Nice video 😀
Thanks 😁
the way you said pastor and chorizo was funny lol
colin sahlman got some moves
Nice
Thanks
Nice video
thank you!
Can you guys do a video of your pre run warm up routine?
thats a great idea!
L&L great content. Eventhough the BigBear workout run can be gruesome. It is worth it and a great way for prepping for other races and big rigorous pivotal challenging race courses such as Nike Cross Nationals and Footlocker Nationals. However, defeating other rivals and your biggest rival Great Oak won't be an easy feat. These rivals can be skilled studying their opponents tactics and strategy, and find ways to improve their strengths and weaknesses. Never let your guard down and underestimate your opponents.
Yes this is definetly true. There is going to be an intense battle this season.
@@LLexandleovloggs Indeed it will. Remember this a true champion and a true warrior never gives up. Work hard and one day you two will become Gatorade National Cross Country Runner of the Year or Track of the Year.
I see that your pre-run routine includes some exercises with ropes and bands. Could you describe what these are and how often you do them?
we do some active isolation stretching before runs with some muscle activation with the bands. the stretching is similar to Phil Wharton's methods
Awesome video. Do any of you guys balance a part time job while training?
Nobody on the team has an official part time job but lex and I have been doing landscaping projects on the side for the past year or so and probably work around 3-6 hours a week so very light.
More content!
Great video! How many sessions do you do in a week? (Long runs, tempo, workout, hills etc included)
Our week is never really the same but we usually do one tempo per week at least in big bear, one long run, and maybe a hilly training run and the rest of the days we do some easy runs and doubles.
@@LLexandleovloggs are the doubles always the days of the easy runs?
Out of curiosity, how many miles a week do you run? Awesome video!
While were up here in big bear we have been in the low 60's.
wow that is a lot! for my team we usually run mid to high 20’s
Nicee
Thanks
Why is Lex just eating a napkin so casually? 😂
Thats actually lex
@@EmmanuelFranco2005 lol sorry I mean lex
was wondering if people would notice, just a little easter egg. We dont actualy eat napkins 😂
@@LLexandleovloggs haha 😂 I was literally so confused

HECC
I want to know what was your time in 5k when you were freshman, what you did when you get injured?
How expensive was it to stay up in big bear? I'm planning a trip for my buddies and I to train up there next summer
depends on how much your willing to spend on houses, food, activities, etc. A trip like this could cost anywhere from 1k to 2k depending on how many people you have to split the costs and other factors.
Thomas looks like tadej pogacar
McFarland USA
Have you guys gotten injured before? What steps did you take to overcome it?
Yes we have both been injured.
Lex - my freshman year i was injured just before the state meet and missed out on post season. This injury was brutal mentally, but cross training daily using heart rate allowed me to maintain a good fitness for track.
Where do you get the rope you guys use in your warm up video?
Not sure our coach buys it, but I think it is just fishing rope. You should be able to find good rope like it at your local hardware store.
what running watch do you use? and where do you track your runs?
I (LEO) use the garmin 645 music but lex uses an older simpler garmin
Background at 3:51 lol
Day in the life: eat oats run eat oats
very true
How long are you guys staying up at big bear?
We are up here for a month, but as this video is being published we have one week left.
What camera do y’all use?
We are shooting almost all of the content on my (LEO) Fuji X-t4, and some running footage is on the gopro, in this video the whole running section was shot on a RED Komodo. and sometimes we suplement footage from Lex's Canon SL2.
Do you guys train in 80/20 like majority easy longer runs and then fast hard work outs a couple times a week
Well I suppose that they do tempo runs, hill workouts, strength workouts, long runs and of course speed. But maybe they do one workout hard and then an easy run
It really depends on the week, but we tend to have around 3 hard days in any given week. Usually at least one of them is a workout and one is a long run. Occasionally we will have a hilly run like seen here in the place of one of the workouts. But our training is very volatile in the fact it is always changing based on how we feel. some weeks we will have two hard workouts and maybe nothing else but easy/recovery runs.
@@LLexandleovloggs that’s a key difference between what makes a good athlete and what doesn’t. Going based on feel.
I’m not elite by any means but I had times that were alright enough. 50.5 400m, 1:56 800m, 4:53 1600m. I was plagued with injuries because of the terrible coaching. About to go into my senior year of college.
It would be like “idc if you’re sore and hurt you’re gonna get this workout done the way I want it” .. when all of our athletes would’ve been better off if the coaches said, “do what you feel like you can do today and don’t push yourself.” It’s pretty sad. Everyone always ended up burnt out and injured. That being said. Love your content. Keep it up
How much mileage does your warm up and cool down consist of each training session?
in a workout we usually do a two mile warm up and a two mile cool down
How much longer are you guys in big bear for?
we are up here till the 25th of july
The algorithm brought me here.
awesome
How many mpw do the 800 guys on your team run?
we don't really have 800 guys on the team we will occasionally run one but its not the programs focus, is someone is specifically training for the 800 there milage is mostly the same they just wont do as long of reps in workouts
2min running… rest: FOOD
Do all of the boys stay in one house or is it split up?
all of the guys barely fit into one house, its tight but it works.

I love the bourne films!
I like how he has to emphasize he's an "elite" hs runner as if we don't already know
😂
It's called china islands
yeah ur right it is. The guy who owns it explained it to us one of the days, its pretty cool actually.
why is lex eating a napkin
Did y’all ever go to the lake
not in this video but we do almost every day, stay posted we have a great cliff jumping lake video coming soon.
Looks like a tough life. LOL. Their diet doesn't seem very nutritious. I guess they burn off the junk food at their ages and as hard as they work out and can get away with it. However, I always wonder if they could perform better if they had a really nutritious diet.

Oatmeal is very calorie dense, good for running and did you see those tacos they have a bunch of veggies and meats in them. I think they are doing better than you think.
@@Mythicalgnome Yes, you are probably right. They probably couldn't get to that level without some good nutrition.
Oatmeal: Fast and easy
Kinda like you
