    I agree about the rule. I was told if I slow down on the acceleration lane, I'd fail instantly. Well shit.. for my test, I got on the acceleration lane and I got up to speed. What was frickin right next to me or too dangerously close for me on the merging lane??.
    A TRUCK! A FREAKIN 18 WHEELER!!!! Going side by side at this point. But in my head I remembered if I slow down I'm failing so ultimately my nerves would make a decision. I saw bush at the end of the acceleration lane. I was scared af and the examiner seemed visibly uncomfortable lol. Then lo and behold, when I looked again just as I was running out of acceleration lane, the truck slowed a little to let me slip in front and the examiner was like "LOOK HE'S GIVING YOU A CHANCE🎉" I didn't slow down. We made it.
    Honestly, they need to cut that out and let people use their knowledge and training according to situation BECAUSE IT DEpENDS ON THE SITUATION!!!! It can put new drivers doing the test in panic mode!
    I should mention I'm a pretty good driver dw!!

      I was in the same situation for my test. To me it's too rigid and unfair. You instantly fail if you slow on the acceleration lane or merge going too slow, but most instructors also instantly fail if you merge too late or if you are going above the highway speed limit. I can understand if you do any of those things without cause, but in your example if he never slowed down, you would have to do one of those options.

    • @lisad6721
      @lisad6721 2 года назад +7

      @@kevlarcardhouse252 💯. I feel like that too. It was a catch 22 and I'm not sure how they do it now but I hope they understand that as drivers, we have to trust our judgment because in real life we have to go according to what is happening. I feel like they just rile newbies up with all those what-not-to-dos.

      Cause slowing down can cause an accident or hold up traffic. You merge when safe

      I hear you… I had a driving lesson in the highway today and same happened to me I was speeding to reach the 100 required and the ramp was so short, the traffic was crazy with cars by my side and a car in front my instructor yelled at me that I was going to fast and I needed to slow down to merge.
      I asked him after what I should do when a ramp is short and there is lots of traffic it is not safe to go to 100 speed.
      So frustrating, confusion and also dangerous.
      I hope they change that rule.

      It just happened to me today and the person was not letting me merge and in my head it was like no slowing down i speed up and that asshole speed up as well and then controlled me wheel so difficulty….. but luckily there was no car beside me…. Imagine their stupid rule could have killed me today so it is ok to slow down cz the person behind u will be responsible if they hit u from behind so they will not do it … be safe everyone

    I just failed my G test today (newmarket) because I didn't reach 100 km/h while merging. I was upto the speed of the cars except when I was merging it wasn't 100. She failed me also because apparently I didn't look around enough when I was doing my emergency stop by the road (although the whole time I was moving my head like a duck). Such silly reasons and with covid it's so hard to find a spot. 🙄 some examiners are so knit picky. I agree with Harminder Suri, why should we get upto speed before merging? Grŕr. Love your videos, learnt alot from your videos. Keep up the good work bro! Thank you for all that you do! ❤

    A point to consider when you are in a line of cars merging onto a highway is to allow enough space between yourself and the car front of you so that you have enough room to build your speed up. Also this space will allow you time to react in case the car in front of you has to slow or stop. Before accelerating you should check the position of the cars on the highway. Look for a gap in traffic that you can safely get into. This will help you decide when to accelerate and how much. Don’t count on others to move over to let you on. They may not be able to due to the speed and the volume of traffic in the other lanes. They also may be reluctant to move over because they have an exit coming up. If they do move over for you, don’t stay along side them in case they might want to get back to the right and also to prevent faster traffic from being blocked behind them.

    Their rationale for the concept of merging at highway speed is that if you are merging onto a highway lane at a speed lower than the speed at which traffic is coming, then you can be a threat to the cars already on the highway. Theoritically, it makes sense, but it is nonsense when they actually want to see it on a test and when they have created a hype that one will fail the test if merging is not done at 100. This rather makes the whole merging situation more unsafe, as during the test one is worried about maintaing 100 speed even though one might not be comfortable at it. To add to the woes, one has to be aware of incoming traffic and blondspot as well. And, on top of that, there are few ramps such as Toronto-Etobicoke where it is almost impossible to achieve 100 speed because of the short lenght of the acceleration ramp. Many times there are instances when the car already on highway does not slow down to let the incoming vehicle merge and then it becomes extremely dangerous and confusing to merge at 100 because the student is afraid of slowing down as a result of the rule, thinking he might fail. In my opinion, they should change the rules around highway merging, and say that merge according to situation, while trying to keep the speed above 80 if possible.

      I had the same issue, i cant accerelate in highspeed 100, as I reach end of lane as traffic was too heavy, so i slow down and try to get the behind of the vehicle ahead of me, they said I failed. Instructor has no experience of traffic safety . If I stayed longer I colud have been cramed! 😢 , Just this video explained.

      Failed my test in Norway for this reason as well. I find this rule ridiculous. In my home country of Nigeria, you will 95% of the time end up in the grave if you merge at the same speed as those already on the motorway.

    You made absolute sense! I have been asking myself the same question. The guidance should be merge at the speed of traffic when it is safe to do so. If there is no traffic why floor my pedal when I can merge and accelerate safely. I don't know but we will do as told. Lol

    Great video! This is a tough skill for anyone who lives in a small town where there are few opportunities to practice merging. Trying to merge onto a multi-lane road in Los Angeles I didn't accelerate enough & finished up having to wait at the end of the merge lane until there was a really big gap in the traffic. Not nice, but I didn't panic or anything😂

    Just watching this now because I’ve got a test coming up. The problem I find with merging is that even if someone sees my signal to intent, people seem to always speed up so they can get ahead of me before I merge so now they’re right beside me as I’m trying to merge and the lane is running out. If someone’s in that lane it should seem obvious the persons intent is to enter the highway. I feel like there’s just so many selfish drivers that don’t care now a days

    You are very correct....I failed my G Test because of this...While practicing, the driver told me that I must merge at 100km/h or 90km/h if not I would be failed..Now, I failed my test for two reasons: 1) The test driver said I did not pick up speed on time meanwhile I was still at the ramp curve when she asked me to pick up speed meanwhile I was taught to start picking up speed when the ramp straightens. 2) I failed because by the time I picked up speed, two cars were in the lane i was to enter and I attempted speeding up to go ahead of the 1st car....It was all messed up..Next time,. If the road is closing in and there are cars in the way, I will just slow down my speed and allow them go before I merge.

    What you said make sense, why they want us merge on certain speed? Sometime the car in front is not up to the speed and the car behind already merge and catch up our car.

    Yeah that rule is stupid.
    You should be able to merge whenever when it's safe. Because if I'm going really really fast in the acceleration Lane I might make a mistake by hitting somebody or another person hitting me because I didn't see the car behind me.
    Yes you are supposed to go fast in the acceleration Lane but you should only merge when it's safe.

    I would want you to do a video where cars are in the merging lane

  • @ninadvrtk
    @ninadvrtk 9 месяцев назад

    Merging onto highway has to be at the designated speed (90kmph) and not "whenever its safe" because if you merge at less than 90kmph you might not get enough time to get upto the designated speed and you could cause the oncoming traffic to go slower even though you think there are no cars in the lane that you are merging since there could be cars outside your line of vision and time "runs fast" when you are on highway. At least that's what my instructor taught me.
    Awesome videos though ! Keep it up !!

    In merging which is the right one to do to check the blind spot: by moving only the head for a peripheral vision or both the head and shoulders.

  • @ProdigyX19
    @ProdigyX19 2 года назад +2

    To argue your point about getting up to speed then merging: In very small instances will you merge over with no one around. In this case, you going 40 in a 65 then merging, no ones around, not a problem. But most times, there will be others around you, whether already on the highway or behind you on the on ramp. If everyone on the highway is already at the speed limit and the people behind you on the on ramp are also going to accelerate to speed when merging, you have to get to speed up too or risk causing an accident. It's probably better practice to get to speed then merge because of this.

  • @AndyGrouch
    @AndyGrouch Год назад +2

    Merging at proper speed is very important, because it can get very dangerous if you merge with too low speed.

    Hi ...I have a question. When we enter to the road that will merge to the highway, the speed mentioned on the starting of that road is with a sign of Ramp speed 40. So I would like to know for how long we should drive at 40 before merging highway.

    HI, I have a question. what if there is a dumptrack in front of you with low speed 7-80km/h in ramp, this track merged onto highway at the end of ramp with this speed. I was not abl e to speed up to 100km/h in the ramp.

    Can you at any time well on the highway go over 100km/h? Like when you are merging can you go over 100? or when they ask you to change lanes into a faster lane do you still maintain your same speed or do you follow the same speed as the cars in that lane, even if you are then travelling over 100km/h? clarification on this would be much appreciated!

    Yes ,make a lot of sense to merge when is safe regardless of the speed , but so many people fail because they want the driver to reach that específico speed no matter what is the SITUATiON “

    What if the highway is congested and all cars are backed up, how do they expect you to accelerate to 100 km per hour on the acceleration lane where the lane you are moving to is only moving below 20 km per hour due to heavy traffic. I thought merging should be treated like a lane change where you should match your speed with the lane you are moving into, so if the lane speed is below speed lane then you slow down and vice versa

    Hey Suri, do we get 401 and 403 expressway tickets/fines for careless driving or violating merging rules. While driving on 403->401, towards brampton from Mississauga, i felt some automatic lights blinked, so bit worried if i have been captured by cameras or anything. How can i check if i have been fined.

    In Kitchener the examiner failed me for 'merging with traffic lower than highway traffic'(even though i'm in Highway allowed speed 90kmph, she (the examiner) enquired me why I was not speed up above the speed of oncoming traffic (it's more than 100kmph at that time). I was afraid of being speeding up above the allowable speed(90kmph). My instructor had told me that i should not go above 90-92kmph. Actually that advice made me losing one straight year to appear for G test(I'm an aspirant for a Truck License).

    Hi Sir, question on exiting highway. If you’re on already on the right most lane that turns into an exit, do you still signal right?

  • @robertknight4672

    People on Tik-Tok kept showing videos of a crazy highway on-ramp that was really sharp, short and dumped you right into highway traffic. There was no acceleration Lane at all or barely one. I'm not exactly sure where that was. It was so short and sharp it's damn near impossible for people to get a the proper with most cars.

    Now that I notice it
    People say Mirrors could be for checking blind spots. But I think I know why you Check your blind spot.
    It's because Objects in The Mirror appear closer then they are.
    So you check your blind spot you get more of an accurate position of how close the car is.

    • @OodieSoodie
      @OodieSoodie 3 года назад +4

      You also check your blindspot because the mirror won’t show you a car that’s in a certain position

      You need more practice driving at night. If you think you're too close to the vehicle in front of you, then slow a bit and make a safe gap. Always think safety first, but not to the point that you're not following the speed limit.
