    When should you accelerate? Notice that there's a yellow line to the left that changes into a white line. That's the transition between the ramp speed and the highway speed. THAT'S when you should accelerate.

    I've a highway exit related question, sometimes right most lane splits into 2 heads like Y and the right head goes to exit and left one goes straight. If I'm existing then should I indicate right to take the exit? I'm confused because technically I'm not changing lane, I'm just going to the right head of the same lane.

    • @TorontoDrivers
      @TorontoDrivers  3 года назад +2

      Very good question! A lot of my students used to ask me that. The answer is no. You do not need to indicate because if you do indicate then you might confuse the cars behind you into thinking that you are going to switch lanes. Hope this helps. :)

  • @blueeyedlady8973
    @blueeyedlady8973 6 месяцев назад

    Many people make the mistake of ALWAYS slowing down to get behind someone. If there is more room in front of them, accelerate and get in FRONT of them. In my state, it’s up to the merger to find a spot to fit in. People are not required to move over for you. Ever. So if you don’t hit the gas and go for it sometimes, you missed your chance! My Mom taught me to drive at age 14 in thick, rush hour traffic. She made me merge and merge until I could do it in my sleep. She said “Never slow down when you’re merging (if you can help it). If you get a chance to speed up instead of slow down, do that instead. Because faster is what you need to end up going anyway, not slower. Also, parallel park every chance you get! Watch videos on how to do it well and practice a lot so when you have to do it, you won’t be scared to! She also taught me that in rush hour traffic. In her boat of a car! 😬

    • @michaelhill56
      @michaelhill56 4 месяца назад

      Uhm, I've been driving for over 50 years and every interstate I've driven on has these triangular signs that say YIELD on the entrance ramps. That doesn't mean you race someone that has the RIGHT OF WAY on the road!

    • @blueeyedlady8973
      @blueeyedlady8973 4 месяца назад

      @@michaelhill56 That’s not what I mean at all. The person on the freeway always has the right of way. What I’m saying is people can speed up if there is a space in front of people. If I am on the road, on the freeway, and there is a mile in front of me with no cars and someone is coming onto the freeway slightly in front of me, there is no reason that they need to apply the brakes and go behind me. They can step on the gasand get in front of me. As long as they don’t cut me off. But I will definitely hold my lane if there is lots of room in front of me and lots of room behind me. There is no reason in hell for me to get over lol.

  • @gregrowe1168
    @gregrowe1168 5 месяцев назад

    I really hope that never is a driving test in the U.S. We have experienced drivers who can't merge properly. The signal is pointless, its obvious you're merging or otherwise you'd just drive off the road. Expecting other cars to move over for you is another fantasy as well. I do it when i can on the interstate but many won't move an inch even it they can. They will make the merging car literally run off the road. As far as accelerating on the on ramp, do it as soon as you possibly can. Sometimes in the real world, you must exceed the speed limit in order to merge. You get a lot of dumb drivers passing other cars at merging ramps and they can't move over. You might have to go faster than the cars in the slow lane to enter.
