Stay in the right lane if you're a beginner, and don't be afraid of going slow as long as its the speed limit. Pick a gap between the car behind and in front, accelerate and adjust speed as needed. Simple
@@jacobreyes6212 it depends on the situation. What I do is if I’m too close to the merging car I accelerate to get out of the way. If he’s in front of me i just adjust my speed to his so he has space to merge and it’s safe to the cars on my back.
The most important thing and most often not done is; You need to be going the same speed or a little faster than the traffic you are merging with. Why? because EVERY vehicle on the road can slow down at a faster rate than it can speed up. When you get to the merge point, if you can't slip right in, slow down enough to get in. ALWAYS, at the merge point, be going at least as fast as traffic you are merging with.
@@songriver1232 It is actually easier. Most big rigs are topped out at 75 mph. Cars can frequently be going faster. So if you are merging onto a 65 mph limit freeway in light to moderate traffic you should be going 65-70 at the end of the on ramp. As you near the traffic lane you are merging with, you should be able to merge left in first lane next to you, or SLOW slightly to merge in. It makes it easy.
I absolutely hate when some old prick is on the merging ramp and THEY FUCKING COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH NO YIELD OR STOP SIGN. So many times I’ve seen major accidents happen because of this exact shit, how can you be so stupid as a human it’s unbelievable. When I get in that fucking ramp i floor it to at least 80 mph and then merge into flying traffic instantly with no issue because I’m flying faster then most of the people in the right lane on the highway already. It’s not rocket science it’s so easy
Great advice. Watch out for those tricky and potentially dangerous yield areas where there IS NO merge lane. Usually there’s a sign posted that will say NO MERGE AREA but not always. In that case it’s always necessary to stop the vehicle and treat the yield sign like a stop sign and then check and make sure the lane you are merging into is completely clear. Always be sure to look ahead and confirm whether or not there is a merge lane and proceed accordingly as mentioned..Happy motoring and Stay safe!

I drive fine and look in my mirrors and rear view mirror but I freeze up when I do not know directions. I’m going to be doing this on a very big highway and can’t lie I’m a bit anxious but I’m not afraid. Being afraid makes you less confident
In most states, it is the driver's job that is merging to adjust their speed to traffic already in the lanes. It is not the job of the existing traffic to move over or change speeds to let you in. Most expressway entrance ramps will have a yield sign. That yield is for the person entering, not the people already on the highway.
@@omivnr3858 To yield the right-of-way means to allow another vehicle to proceed before you in a traffic situation. The person entering the expressway has the yield. Some expressways have a sign indicating this.
It’s common courtesy to try to give the incoming traffic some room to merge. You don’t necessarily have to change lanes for them though. Just slow down a bit if you see someone coming and can give them room to go through.
@@guineapigtalks that disrupts the flow & speed of the expressway traffic, that's why the yield is for the incoming traffic, not the existing traffic. They are given a long lane to get up to speed and adjust to the traffic they are merging with.

I always had the thought that when on a highway ramp, you should keep your speed low and only speed up when you get fully onto the highway. Laws are different in every state. For instance, if you are driving in Georgia and you approach a highway, the minimum speed must get up to at least 40 MPH
I don't have access to a car and lessons are expensive and always booked it is a challenge for me to practice all I got is these videos hopefully I will pass my test
I legit had to do it today only to realize I didn't actually know how. I didn't almost wreck but I probably annoyed someone cuz I pulled into the shoulder after realizing there wasn't enough room for both of us.
If u can look farther up the highway while your on the ramp to judge how fast u should go before getting on the acceleration lane that would help but don’t start to speed up until the ramp starts to straighten out
The vehicles in the travel lane are not required to move over the let you in. Hammer up the acceleration lane to the speed limit. If you can't get up to the speed limit you have to enter behind the vehicle already in travel lane. That Big Truck going 62 MPH in the right lane isn't going to move over to let you in....get in up in front of it or in behind it.
You should be getting up to speed using the ramp. Don’t wait until you’re about to get on the freeway to build speed. You also want to go a bit faster or just as fast as traffic. If you get scared you shouldn’t be driving. That’s how people cause an accident and also from going too slow. have your mirrors adjusted to see “blind spots” and always be aware of your surrounding vehicles. You should be able to see every car near you. If you go fast enough and are confident you should be able to just smoothly merge into the lane.
I don't think a person shouldnt be allowed to drive in general just because they are learning and are nervous lol that's like saying if you have test anxiety ,you shouldn't be in school. Every person starts off nervous and the more you do something confidence builds .
Shouldn’t be driving is terrible advice. Most new drivers are understandably scared, and even many regular drivers. How can they get experience if they just don’t drive?
3:54 nope. The right lane is the lane you should be driving in. The left lane or lanes are meant for PASSING not cruising. Stay on the right lane if you want to pass a car in front of you do on the left lane then merge to the right.
in a 3+ lane highway, you stay out of the right lane because there’s constant on and off traffic.. nothing wrong with riding the middle lane and using left to pass.
“You’re not allowed to cross the solid lines” Texas drivers: 🔇👉🙂🤷🏾♀️ But seriously I watch many videos and know how dangerous it is; however my mom still does it. 😔 I’m learning to drive soon and I’m very afraid of highway driving. This is a very good video ty 🙂
This video is cute because there’s a lane that leads into the highway once you’re up there but a lot of times it’s a very short spot and some people believe you just have to fight to get in, but really there should be training to let cars zipper into the highway since slowing down or stopping will only prevent you more from merging
Ironically, I havent driven on a highway since i got my license which was a few months ago. My main worry about entering a highway is the case of it being extremely busy, and every lane is a constant feed of cars that are already all as close as safely possible. I know this is pretty unlikely, but in a situation like this, would you have to slow down or even stop w/ your emergency lights on? Or do you always need to take the risk and hope your car will fit, since even if you do collide, the damage wont be as bad since keeping up the speed would make the other cars slower in relativity?
something pretty much exactly like that happened to me today not to exaggerate but i was merging onto the highway i’ve done it b4 so i wasn’t nervous until i see a constant feed of cars that wouldn’t slow down or merge into other lanes keep in my mind atp i’m going 65ish and they’re all 80+ mph during rush hour and i have cars behind me in the moment i panicked and slowed causing the car behind him to frustrate and take the gap i was gonna take so in the moment of me panicking i just got in the emergency lane which was worse cuz now i have to merge from a totally stopped car to 80 mph to keep up with traffic nevertheless i just wait till i saw a gap and took basically just don’t panic and drive at the speed limit on the ramp and very gradually increase your speed it takes time if worse comes to worse just get in the emergency lane that’s what it’s for
@@juanmazon4746same thing happened to me a few days ago. It’s a two lane highway super busy early morning & they just wouldn’t get over so I had to stop before getting on the highway. I had cars behind me but what could I do? There was no way I wouldn’t have gotten in an accident had I not stopped.
I did that before and a truck almost hit me because I didn’t look I just went into the other lane not even checking my blind spot I got better overtime
I entered the freeway and I was getting ready to merge but a huge gas truck was in the lane to merge in and he was driving fast, and I guess he expected me to step on the gas full speed, but no instead I moved on over to the emergency parking lane and he honked at me
I've been driving on the highway for about 2 years now, and I don't know how, because merging is something that used to and still gives me major anxiety!
I tried going on the freeway easy and the car on the left isn’t giving me an opening… while that car is honking and im about to get out of its way a truck overtakes me on the right side. The wifes yelling at this point, just daam!
I been driving for 6 months now but only drive in my town I haven't driven on a freeway or highway yet haven't had to yet but I'm looking for a better job and will soon need to
I feel like i just made myself think i knew what i was doing and that it's easy to do. Sure thing, i was calm and acted like i knew exactly what i was doing.. it went great.. One thing tho is i took the wrong exit
There is no such thing as ‘blind spots’ on cars. On trucks yes. The blind spots is because most people do not adjust their mirrors from the EDGE of their cars.
Atp if there is too much traffic you could have to potentially come to a stop and wait for a gap to get over traffic on the highway don’t have to move over for you to merge it’s your job
what do i do on roads where, there isn't really an acceleration lane there is just the ramp and then it merges directly into the highway lane where everyone is driving because that makes me soooo scared, like what if a semi is passing that point at the same time as me and we get in an accident and i'm pretty scared of it happening with any other car but especially a semi truck

Wow way to inform the people watching this video that you are actually required by law to get up to interstate speeds before you start to merge. After you get up to that speed then you determine whether you need to gilded traffic or speed up and get in front of them. Here in the United States you are required to yield to traffic on the interstate or highway. You have three options when you merge on the interstate, and you won't like option number three.
What if You r going at the same speed as incoming traffic but u can’t go in? What do you do? U can’t slow down but if a car is coming u can’t merge cuz u might hit em

Is yield to slow down ?
@@catladycatlady7359some acceleration lanes are short
I absolutely avoid highways here in NY it sucks I accidentally got on a highway ramp and it was heavy traffic no one was letting me merge 😭😭 I floored it in panic to get off lmao
Damn
Yep ny Traffic. Was terrible when I was up there
lols, "gradually increase speed" i just get in the merge lane and gun it, woooh, 86 MPH!!! entering the highway.
Thank you have overcome my fear
That's great to hear!
Doing this for the first time today and I’m terrified. Thank you for the video, it’s helped me prepare for it
That's awesome, best of luck
I just did it today with out even knowing that i was going to do it my family member asked me to bring something to them and i was following the gps and then i saw the the road changing into the on ramp and i merged at the proper speed now im not sure if i did it perfectly but i didnt wreck and i got back on it going back home anyways im so relieved i didnt wreck and i got it over with
I always had the thought that when on a highway ramp, you should keep your speed low and only speed up when you get fully onto the highway. Laws are different in every state. For instance, if you are driving in Georgia and you approach a highway, the minimum speed must get up to at least 40 MPH
I learn a lot everyday about your video. Thank you so much
I don't have access to a car and lessons are expensive and always booked it is a challenge for me to practice all I got is these videos hopefully I will pass my test
Now I love driving highway after 10 years driving normal road, Faithful driver 🥰🥰
I legit had to do it today only to realize I didn't actually know how. I didn't almost wreck but I probably annoyed someone cuz I pulled into the shoulder after realizing there wasn't enough room for both of us.
People from Michigan need to watch this video!
Hey there!
I passed my test like 20 mins ago good lucc to anyone else it’s not even that hard
I just don’t understand why the merge lane ends so quickly, especially if I have to accelerate fast to match traffic
Ikr wouldn't it be better if it was a bit longer
If you go fast enough and are confident you should be able to just smoothly merge into the lane.
ive been driving for 20 yrs and still fear merging onto the highway.
@@Gandalf17 I can give you driving lessons for a cheap price. I might make my RUclips channel all about driving lessons.
I don't think a person shouldnt be allowed to drive in general just because they are learning and are nervous
lol that's like saying if you have test anxiety ,you shouldn't be in school.
Every person starts off nervous and the more you do something confidence builds .
Shouldn’t be driving is terrible advice. Most new drivers are understandably scared, and even many regular drivers. How can they get experience if they just don’t drive?
Are you still giving private lessons,??
Pick a gap and take it do not think the traffic on freeway with right of way will be trying to merge for you.
Time to drive on a highway to Organ tommorrow. I'll be sure to flore it when i need to
In florida people don't use there signals and I've seen many times them crossing the white line.
3:54 nope.
The right lane is the lane you should be driving in. The left lane or lanes are meant for PASSING not cruising. Stay on the right lane if you want to pass a car in front of you do on the left lane then merge to the right.
Not illegal to pass on the right however. At least not here if there are two or more lanes all traveling in the same direction
in a 3+ lane highway, you stay out of the right lane because there’s constant on and off traffic.. nothing wrong with riding the middle lane and using left to pass.
“You’re not allowed to cross the solid lines”
Texas drivers: 🔇👉🙂🤷🏾♀️
But seriously I watch many videos and know how dangerous it is; however my mom still does it. 😔
I’m learning to drive soon and I’m very afraid of highway driving. This is a very good video ty 🙂
I start Friday and I’m literally so scared trying to watch helpful videos but I have horrible anxiety
One of the best tutorials I’ve seen. Very informative
Yes. An acceleration lane is for...wait for it...ACCELERATION. I've always wondered why people stop. Very strange.
Slow down withyour blinkers on until someone lets you merge inside
SAME
I was wondering the same thing and have you tried getting on the highway yet?
something pretty much exactly like that happened to me today not to exaggerate but i was merging onto the highway i’ve done it b4 so i wasn’t nervous until i see a constant feed of cars that wouldn’t slow down or merge into other lanes keep in my mind atp i’m going 65ish and they’re all 80+ mph during rush hour and i have cars behind me in the moment i panicked and slowed causing the car behind him to frustrate and take the gap i was gonna take so in the moment of me panicking i just got in the emergency lane which was worse cuz now i have to merge from a totally stopped car to 80 mph to keep up with traffic nevertheless i just wait till i saw a gap and took basically just don’t panic and drive at the speed limit on the ramp and very gradually increase your speed it takes time if worse comes to worse just get in the emergency lane that’s what it’s for
@@juanmazon4746same thing happened to me a few days ago. It’s a two lane highway super busy early morning & they just wouldn’t get over so I had to stop before getting on the highway. I had cars behind me but what could I do? There was no way I wouldn’t have gotten in an accident had I not stopped.
I can't see your mirrors and it's stressing me out.
sorry about that.

**LAUGHS IN NJ**
Very helpful, I sure hope I pass the driver's permit test this year.😁
This really helps , Thank you so much , now I can chill when I go on one to a different state or work
Its a very helpful video, Thanks for showing both the views.
Glad it was helpful!
A very helpful and informative video. Thanks for uploading. This could help me out in my next attempt to take my class 5 road test.
Yeah this isn’t possible where I live, people always don’t leave spaces for me and I always have to slow down or stop to wait for a gap to enter.
Thank you , this video was very helpful. Great tutorial
Glad it was helpful, drive safe!
99 percent of Southern NH need to watch this
My first time merging on a highway I didn’t even look over my shoulder and just went into the other lane lmao , still practicing with a friend.
I did that before and a truck almost hit me because I didn’t look I just went into the other lane not even checking my blind spot I got better overtime
Tysm, now I’m ready to drag race.
I entered the freeway and I was getting ready to merge but a huge gas truck was in the lane to merge in and he was driving fast, and I guess he expected me to step on the gas full speed, but no instead I moved on over to the emergency parking lane and he honked at me
What do you do if you don’t find an ideal gap between the acceleration lane and the actual traffic flow just because there are so many cars?
That’s what I’m still trying to figure out
I've been driving on the highway for about 2 years now, and I don't know how, because merging is something that used to and still gives me major anxiety!
So what if I literally cannot get over? Do I literally just stop until I’m able to go,
New drivers: ok I’m going on the highway I’ll make it to my destination safe!
Their brain: *you’re about to f-k up and die*
I tried going on the freeway easy and the car on the left isn’t giving me an opening… while that car is honking and im about to get out of its way a truck overtakes me on the right side. The wifes yelling at this point, just daam!
Oh wow! no courtesy
I been driving for 6 months now but only drive in my town I haven't driven on a freeway or highway yet haven't had to yet but I'm looking for a better job and will soon need to
Thanks for sharing your video stay safe and connected c u around
Thank you!
I got my license, but I'm very nervous to drive in highways.
I feel like i just made myself think i knew what i was doing and that it's easy to do. Sure thing, i was calm and acted like i knew exactly what i was doing.. it went great.. One thing tho is i took the wrong exit
This is only thing I haven’t mastered :(
My fear is the merging lane ending and the people on the freeway not letting me in
Me too! I was driving on the highway for two weeks straight and one time no one was letting me and after that I been too nervous to do it
It's happened to me a lot here in Canada. Canadians are terrible drivers, they don't let you pass or even notice you.
I still have a hard time with merging :(. I'm scared of getting trapped at the end and not knowing what to do 😅.
There is no such thing as ‘blind spots’ on cars. On trucks yes. The blind spots is because most people do not adjust their mirrors from the EDGE of their cars.
I got a question. On that picture at 3:03 what if there’s a ton of traffic and u aren’t able to merge but the merge lane ends?
This
Atp if there is too much traffic you could have to potentially come to a stop and wait for a gap to get over traffic on the highway don’t have to move over for you to merge it’s your job
I’ve had my license for 2 years but I’ve only drive in the interstate 3 times
what do i do on roads where, there isn't really an acceleration lane there is just the ramp and then it merges directly into the highway lane where everyone is driving because that makes me soooo scared, like what if a semi is passing that point at the same time as me and we get in an accident and i'm pretty scared of it happening with any other car but especially a semi truck
It's the head turn for me
Smh..my dad took me on the highway..busiest time of the day ..and I was a new driver..scariest day of my life. Lol
Lol
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
i like freeways wayyyy better than streets ! i got my license when i was 16 so almost a year ago and freeways way more fun and not stop and go
just start recently driving im getting used to it taking myself some time learning it before learning to do highway next then parallel parking prepare do road test soon as possibles depends how good im doing
I'm driving on the highway first time in July in ny and I'm kind of nervous so hopefully this video helps.
If you’re merging into stoped traffic you have no choice but the stuff on the merge lane.
What if You r going at the same speed as incoming traffic but u can’t go in? What do you do? U can’t slow down but if a car is coming u can’t merge cuz u might hit em
Signal, and if they still aren't, you gotta put on your game face and be aggressive... accelerate and try to fit in. Might be scary but you have no other choice
