Oh wow! This was so interesting ! I came to Paris 1989 and ended up going to University there, funnily enough Margiela bought the apartment which I almost traded to from My Stockholm appartment at the time. So I saw this interview from his home and recognized it . I was charmed by it.
Thank you Doris for creating a living fashion encyclopedia. I respect your knowledge and appreciate the detail and care you take in creating these videos.
sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@Tatum Alexzander Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
this vid was amazing. margiela was such a brilliant designer. the worst part tho is that it’s so hard to learn abt him and many of the collections. this vid taught a lot tho wow. i hope u make more videos on designers even if u don’t have a huge collection of their stuff cause this was so informative. ty!
Interesting. I started refashioning vintage clothing in the late sixties . I would purchase both men’s and women’s suits from vintage stores and redesign them. I even made my prom dress from a vintage dress and two men’s suits, in 1970. It was the talk of the event.
Wow you always amaze us. Thank you for always paying attention and listening to your followers requests. I just saw margiela was requested last time and here it is now.💗💗💗 All love for you always. More power and god bless You are a treasure 💗💗💗💗💗💎💎💎💎
Tfs! I learn so much. I am a fan of Galliano, and that is why i got to know Margiela..So happy that you provided more insight. I’m also from Belgium.. .. your passion, and sharing is wonderfull !
Wow thank you , love how much we learn with you and from you . That jacket OMG , that’s probably the jewel of the crown at your store if that belonged to Wallis , SPEECHLESS 💎💙
There was a very famous model called Wallis Franken, who became Claude Montana’s muse. I know Montana designed for Lanvin in the early 90’s, is there a link? I absolutely ADORE your videos, so much knowledge, so many treasures, a real eye candy 😍 THANK YOU! 🙏🏻❤️
Truly bewildering! The way Martins designs seeped into modern contemporary fashion is just fabulous. Paying an homage to a revolutionary artist. Will you be maybe doing a video of your Vivienne Westwood pieces if you have any? I would so love that!
Amazing! Thank you for this episode! Margiela is truly one of the greatest! As a suggestion, would love a episode on one of the most influential designers from 90’s: Helmut Lang! Xx
On every level, these clips are getting better and better. Fascinating, even to a design novice. Any chance of an episode on either Pacific or Australasian fashion?
Jan Dobson I will put your suggestion on our list but I don’t think I have material to show at this point in time. Thanks your your interest and suggestion! Doris
sum12sumwhere Hi there. So sorry but I am sure you are aware of how difficult it is to find pieces larger than a contemporary size 10. It is literally the first thing to sell when I do. I am unaware of any designers from the past that specialized in this area. Any suggestions? Thanks for your interest! Doris
@@thewaywewore7371 I was really hoping to learn from you...and I do know how difficult plus pieces are to find, especially designer brands I have seen 80s style sets, but more from department store brands
sum12sumwhere That’s exactly my problem. Thank goodness the fashion world is finally paying attention to the needs of plus size women! I don’t believe there is much from the past. 95% of what I find is matronly and undesirable and not from one designer. Mostly from the 1940s and 50s. Sorry to disappoint you. Doris
Peter Scarborough Hi Peter. Do you want additional info because you want to acquire it? That ensemble is actually out on a memo but I would be happy to give you more I do if you are seriously interested in this. Thanks for your interest. Doris
Thank you so much for all the videos you’ve made! I’ve learned so much from watching them. 😄 I was wondering, how are you able to date the pieces? I have a Maison Martin Margiela skirt that I found at a thrift store a couple months ago and was wondering how I would go about finding out what year it was from?
Chloelyn Cruz you are welcome! We dated ours by the Internet (vogue runway especially) and looking at books. It’s fun to research. I’m sure you’ll find it online. Doris
thatoneawkwardturtle FLAT! If you hang it, the weight will cause stress on the shoulders and it could shred. Store either in acid free tissue paper or an unbleached 100% cotton sheet.
That Lanvin jacket in the Show Off is utterly incredible. The structured sleeves, the quality of the silk and intricacy of the Lesage embroideries - so chic and timeless! Have you thought about doing a video on Jeanne Lanvin? Or maybe a double video on Jeanne Lanvin and Lanvin by Alber Elbaz? JL’s sumptuous fabrics and ladylike couture and AE’s dark glamour and romanticism would make for a fantastic video subject! Love your videos, Doris! Edit: Oh my god I just saw the “Wallis” tag. Could this really have been owned by Wallis Simpson? That would be a find of a lifetime! She certainly was a couture client throughout her life and was known to wear Lanvin images.app.goo.gl/dR2QkWUehHRZ3xp36 - so who knows?!
Markel Payne There is a documentary on him coming out this year I hope called “Martin Margiela- In His Words”. Hopefully that will shed a little light on that question.
🤔 Sometimes I think there are designers that secretly say to themselves 😏 "I bet I can get these rich people to wear half-finished tailored clothes out in public as if it's the newest fashion, and charge them twice what a complete piece would cost!" 😂
She Who Knows All Hi there. I think you may be missing the point of Margiela. While he was designing for his eponymous collection- he took familiar ways of dressing and “twisted” it. Sometimes with humor and something’s making a different kind of statement. The process of creating a collection and the overhead attached to doing that is really high. Ot sure how they determine what to sell it for but I wanted to add that to the discussion. Thanks for watching. Happy holidays! Doris
drew guy If I had MvQueen pieces to share that were not basic- I would absolutely do an episode on HIM. Fingers crossed I am able to come across some pieces worthy of an episode. Thanks for your suggestion! Doris

A personal favorite is the sock sweater tutorial
Margiela is a creative force!!
Superb. I learned so much from an expert. Beautifully presented with no pretensions or time wasting. No gushing at all. Thank you.
I thoroughly enjoy the "construction" of these fabulous clothes! Craftsmanship at its highest.
The best one yet 🤩 the Lesage close up at the end was to die for!
The way we wore
And definitely the way we talk about it
it’s very well carried
Thank you for the channel
Thanks for appreciating it Anna.
Doris
Wonderful pieces, thank you Doris. Such a sense of joy and playfulness in his work.

Another fantastic episode!
Even by watching these pieces in this amazing show-off video I can feel the magic power of Margiela’s works
They make you feel like you are wearing armour they are almost talismanic. Treasured pieces.
really well researched and delivered, and of course a beautiful collection of pieces xx
These clothes are astonishing! Keep doing what you're doing. I love it, and I'm sure many others do too.
Absolutely loved this! AND learned along the way! Made my day:)
I LOVE your videos, very informative and from the heart. Keep them coming!
The blue Lanvin! Stunningly beautiful... Any updates on the provenance?

StojanBre We have Westwood on our list of future episodes. Thanks for your suggestion.

hello ,i lovvvve martin margiela ,wow !
Love your videos! Would you consider doing one on the deconstruction style? That would be so cool. Thanks!
Would love to see some Halston pieces if you have any.
octagon_eight Great suggestion and I will put that on my list for possible future episode. Thanks for watching!

Alex Luonto I don’t have any “interesting” pieces from Lang at this point.
Your videos are an education for us fashion lovers... Greetings from México
Itll be even more wonderful if you do have a tabi shoes archive to accompany these pieces! 😲😲
Theresa MDK Wish I had a pair of tabis but I don’t. ☹️

Thanks for this
this might be my new favorite channel
How exciting! Please tell us more! Did you find out if the Lanvin jacket belonged to the Wallis who married Edward the VIII?
The last minute of you talking about his anonymity and focus on clothing now makes so much sense why John Galliano is now at the helm off the house
I know those dresses back there ( green and pink) are not included in this collection but I just wanted to see them 😞
Love the "show off".
I would love a video on plus size vintage, and designers who were known for plus pieces

Wow. That is totally something Wallace Simpson would wear
Love Doris voice
Brilliant thanks free
Do you have any vintage Givenchy? Like from the era when he clothed Audrey Hepburn
Nicolás Vecinos I have just 2 pieces so if I acquire a few more items- I would love to do an episode on him. Thanks!
Doris
Doris! I LOVE that you are growing out your hair....it looks gorgeous. I did the same. :-)
I think I saw Wally Simpson with this blazer in one picture!!!😱 thank you sweetheart 😘
Norma De leon OMG- do you remember where you saw the image?
The Way We Wore yes, in a Documentary! I see in RUclips or Netflix! I checking for you!👌
In BBC channel 😘

The Lanvin jacket in the show-off is gorgeous! Do you get many pieces of the Alber Elbaz era of Lanvin into the shop?
Justice J. Srisuk I actually don’t have any.
Loved this video Doris! If that Lanvin jacket turns out to be from THE Wallis.......... i will not contain myself!!!! Where/how did you acquire it?
KIM At an auction.

Were these pieces a part of the sotherby's auction? I was emotional watching this video almost brought me to tears.
Chang Hyun Lee I have bought these pieces here and there. 3 pieces were purchased at an auction in Paris last year but not Sotheby’s
I recently bought a 1920s gown with a beaded bottom and silk lining that's ripping, it also has weights should I store it flat or hanging?
thatoneawkwardturtle FLAT! If you hang it, the weight will cause stress on the shoulders and it could shred. Store either in acid free tissue paper or an unbleached 100% cotton sheet.

How do you know the embroidery on the Lanvin jacket is Lesage?
Ac Cc Educated guess. Most haute couture houses from that period used Lesage.
I love anything lanvin and that jacket is wow! If it was snug on the mannequin, that probably belonged to HER! =]
Helmut Lang next !!!
