    The issue with floodgates are "Rules for thee, but not for me." For a card like Summon Limit, you would flip it up AFTER you summoned 10 times already. If floodgates had "Play this at the start of your main phase only" they would be 100x more balanced.

    One thing consistent i agree with is.
    Generic floods need removed. Barrone, Appola, Savage, ruin the game.
    But so do handtraps, the current meta decks REQUIRE HANDTRAPS to even get a monster out. HORRIBLE design. Some handtraps should just be removed (maxx C, its just pot of greed's better younger brother atp.) while some can stay at 3.
    I agree meta decks NEED hit. ban enablers so decks arent 100% accessible. Yugioh has no recourse system.
    The best part of old yugioh decks is they were a toss up with few combos because you couldnt access your entire damn deck in one card.
    let alone accessing your extra deck or graveyard. When something could they were niche, or very special. Restricting cards through other interactions of the game is great. Such as PLANT tuner for example. It has to fit with the archetype, not be something generically able to any case.
    What I love about synchron WITHOUT that cartoonishly stupid OTK engine that stardust has, is that snychron warriors require risk reward, dont have many ways to access them and have limits. Its interactive. Even "Junk" synchro warriors have this play. But guess what, i dont run 15 negates + my board negates from my archetype that can OTK so i cant even play the match for a turn.

  • @four-en-tee
    @four-en-tee 6 месяцев назад +3

    Its not even entirely about there being a revolving door: there's ALWAYS going to be a best deck. We're not going to achieve an equilibrium in a game with well over 100+ archetypes, a meta is always going to develop in a highly explored format. Rogue is just one of those things where you're fortunate its even viable at locals.
    Frankly, we're lucky to have even gotten a diverse format like DUNE and AGOV/Bologna, and even then, people were complaining at that point that you couldn't side for everything when that was kind of the point. If you have a diverse meta, you have to run more generic good-stuff staples that check a wide spread of decks, which helps rotate less toxic cards out of the format. You couldn't play annoying floodgates like Dimensional Barrier during AGOV because everyone was running SP and there were a considerable amount of Unchained players running around.
    Konami's biggest mistake recently was moving Sharvara to 1, I still stand by that. That forbidden and limited list had a lot of unnecessary hits just because Konami was scared that people wouldn't buy a Snake-Eye deck. They caused this tier 0 format, we were in an awesome place before that and other decks could've most certainly kept pace with Snake-Eye had they not been hit.

  • @JonNuclear
    @JonNuclear 6 месяцев назад +12

    Anybody who thinks mid range or rouge decks are helped by generic extra deck cards has no idea what they’re talking about. You might have been conditioned to feel that way because they were so overwhelming that you had to go into them. But now these rouge decks can play in their own unique way instead of always ending on the same board and you don’t have to worry about having to play through Omni’s every single game. 100% Baronne and Savage being hit helps out lower powered decks

    • @Honest_Mids_Masher
      @Honest_Mids_Masher 6 месяцев назад +2

      Nope, swordsoul wouldn't always go into Barrone but even then it was such a good option to play around nib, Manaddium is a rogue deck that also used Barrone to play around nib, Salamangreats with their new support got a synchro 7 that has such a mediocre effect and was saved because Barrone was always an option. Honestly, you're the one who doesn't know what they're talking about if you say that every deck ends on the same board. How is a Manaddium endboard similar in any way to a swordsoul one? 1-2 cards being the same doesn't mean everything is identical. If you think pivoting back to garbage strategies like primeheart OTK is helping out lower powered decks then yeah that's "helping". In fact outside of Snake Eyes there was no meta deck outside of exactly Snake eyes making constant use out of Barrone and especially savage. They've fallen out of meta favour for a while now.

    • @JonNuclear
      @JonNuclear 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@Honest_Mids_Masher You really don’t seem to understand my comment, many many decks were ending in virtually the same board because of the generic omnis, slight variance does not make it a different board(and obviously there are a couple of exceptions), and guess what? Now that all these decks aren’t using it as a crutch Konami is free and encouraged financially to print new support pieces for these decks to fill that role but in a way that’s more fitting to the deck. Many decks were getting held back by these omnis and if your only argument is nib then you really have no argument, some decks can play through it, some can play around it, some won’t trigger it, and you can find and innovate other ways to avoid the card. Also look up recent decks topping, just check a couple lists and you’ll see you’re just wrong on the last point. I will agree that nib might be a bit annoying for some decks for a while, but Baronne was never the only solution and is at best a bandaid for that

    • @MajinVegito100
      @MajinVegito100 6 месяцев назад +2

      @Honest_Mids_Masher 6 месяцев назад +6

      @@JonNuclear Except they weren't ending on the same board. Once again every single deck had a different endboard even with Barrone and savage legal.
      Konami could've printed support pieces a long time ago and they still could've done it while Barrone and savage were legal but they didn't. Also keep in mind the TCG aren't the ones that design the majority of the cards in the game that goes to the OCG where Barrone and savage are still legal thankfully.
      Saying that decks were getting held back by generic cards that are the reason some of them were even meta viable has to be the most disingenuous statement I've ever seen. Also my only argument is nib? Nah the fact that decks just get the worst boss monsters of all time and then are just dumped is my main argument. Even a deck as recent as Manaddium effectively got a worse Blue Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon. As for finding other ways to avoid the card keep in mind that Barrone and savage were one of the few generic cards that could negate. Crystal wing requires a synchro monster as material but most decks can't make use of that, and I doubt I need to bring up shooting Quasar or cosmic blazar.
      Checked Branded lists, couldn't find them playing Barrone or Savage, Checked Purrely and couldn't find them either, neither in Unchained, neither in Labrynth, neither in R-ace. The only ones that I could find that summoned Barrone is exactly Snake Eyes. Voiceless Voice does too but they can't get it out consistently as that requires drawing unsearchable cards. Snake Eyes was the only deck making consistent use of it. If snake eyes was hit no meta decks would've been playing them.
      Barrone was not the only option you're right....savage was an option but we know what happened there.

    I wasn’t aware of the Twitter thread, but here’s my nuclear hot take.
    Pendulums can come back to full power, no link restrictions.
    I’ve talked about this at length before on Reddit, but to give the not essay length version of some of my points…
    Lack of recursion from the ED, pendulum monsters basically have zero ways to come back from the ED to your hand unless we talk about all of… 6 or so cards. I’ll spare you that list for the moment.
    Somewhat connected to the previous point, a lack of special summons outside the pendulum summon, aka, extenders. Effectively putting you in a perpetual catch 22 of asking yourself if you want to use your Pend summon to make a link monster and not be able to make use of the arrows, or summon whatever monster from your ED and your hand to do other plays. Which leads into-
    Easy counter play for your opponent. You effectively bottleneck yourself twice, your whole turn usually revolves around your pend summon, so any opponent worth their salt is gonna target your scales or your link monster, with the grind game implications of investing 4 cards every turn to summon 2. A terrible trade.
    And the one thing I ALWAYS hear when I bring this up…
    Pendulums having infinite material to make extra deck monsters. Yes, this is true, but put a nice, big fat asterisk in that. A hard once per turn summon of theoretically 6 monsters. (That instantly explodes to any solemn card) Yes, that’s a lot of materials. But it’s once. Almost any half competent deck can drop something like 10+ bodies in a turn, so let’s not pretend like pendulums are unique in that regard. So can we please stop pretending pendulum is this black hole of game balance???
    I could go into WAAAAAY more detail, but I’ll stop here.
    Free the pendulum Konami, let me pendulum summon 6 from the ED, you cowards.
    If you’re still here reading this, I just wanna talk briefly about an anecdotal experience I have while just playing pends. I was watching a branded player just kinda go off because he beat me in the grind game, and all I had left on the field was really just a single odd-eyes persona and my scales, and I just felt this unbridled envy as he went off, summoning 6 fusion monsters with materials from his deck, grave, shuffling back FROM the grave, and finally just had this nice fat board, and I realized, this dude can summon all these monsters, but i can’t summon glorified main deck monsters? Nah, this limitation is absolute nonsense.

      as a pend enjoyer the problem is they can come back to full power and be fine but it would result in more of the most obnoxious ftks youve ever seen and not more of the pend gameplay we love to see
      pend needs some fundamental changes to make it easier to setup and play while also getting new limitations that cut down on the clownworld gameplay that makes pend a little TOO open world
      but i fear that time may be passed because a lot of the rules i would adjust are baked into the card text of dozens of pend cards at this point

    • @1997dartagnan
      @1997dartagnan 6 месяцев назад

      @@armorparade I agree with this on paper. My only problem is, it’s been 7 years under the link restriction, 4 of them where it was the ONLY other mechanic besides links itself that have to abide by the arrows, and there has been no fundamental reinvention. No generic pendulum extenders to make links, no real changes to built in play style to account for the link restrictions.
      So at this point, while I agree in theory, it’s been 7 years, if they haven’t done it yet, they’re not going to. So just give me back my mechanic at this point if you (Konami) can’t be bothered to fix what you gutted and left for dead.

    4:48 i get what he's saying. A 6-10 interuption board from a 1 cards combo is basically a floodgate at that point. Also MOST floodgate users are grindy decks and often wont end up with the same field every game and cant finish you on turn 3, unlike some consistent 1 card combo decks. Both are basically "i played first and if you didn't draw the out, no more fun for you". If floodgates all too good then why is snake-eyes getting more win than stun anti-meta decks.
    Better to ban all the flood gates and one card combos that can basically do the same thing. (Or at least all generic boss monsters esp. Appo)

    Personally I like skill drain, its the only one of the flood gates I am personally fine with as it doesn't stop special summoning, but it does simplify the game state. I also say this as someone who loves timelords and they die horribly to that card. But honestly nothing less than something like skill drain will demand we have spell and trap removal mained, and honestly I am all for that. At least you can also keep summoning under skill drain so long as the effects that summon are from hand and dont activate on field. While you might hate skill drain and thats perfectly valid, its on another level than the stuff like summon limit and anti spell.

The card is only a problem if the player let it be a problem. There are so many ways to stop the card now and days and even back then. Maxx C is the perfect card to stop you're opponent sins it dosent stop the player form playing the game. The only times you are still summoning cards after Maxx C is used is either becaush you can beat you're opponent that turn with no problem or you can try to deck out you're opponent and stat Maxx C race. Maxx C has been hated for so long and there are waaaay worse card than C plus Maxx C is a doubleedge sword. Sure it can be a benefit for you but it can also be the thing that make you lose the game. Hot take:
    While I'm fine with the Baronne ban, Savage was pretty clearly only banned to protect Snake-Eyes.
    Reasoning:
    Savage is a card that has been in every meta deck in previous formats, yes, but that was usually because of other problem cards like Halq, Linkross and Auroradon when those were legal, enabling a whole other form of "why do I play this game?"
    Savage actually isn't as generic as he looks. While the materials are generic, his omni-negate isn't live immediately like Baronne. You have to have a Link monster in GY to determine how strong Savage becomes, which means it is incredibly hard to use him to stop Nib as you do have to go through a whole other summon mechanic. Not every deck that plays Synchros plays Links, and vice versa.
    The reason he was so powerful in Snake-Eyes was that they could use him to force you to Nib early while Flamberge Dragon was on board, so you trigger Flamberge for them.
    The defacto deck to use him up until he got banned, was DLink, a deck he was designed to be used in. Yes, he is Rokket support, but in the anime, Varis/Revolver's deck is functionally a version of Dragon Link. Any other deck that I saw use him was either something you'd see at table 500, a meta deck during a format with some of the most problematic cards ever created or a deck that is problematic on its own.
    TL;DR
    Savage is typically played in the deck he was designed for. The problem cards made him too broken.

    I think that all Boss Monsters that are part of a series should be given a Goyo Guardian type errata to fit the series. Not make it archetype specific, but keep it in theme.
    Barronne should require a Warrior, Plant, or Machine monster as material.
    Savage Dragon should require a DARK or Dragon as material
    Verte should require DARK or Plant as material.
    I think this because there are now so many cards in the game that we legitimately don't need any more 2 material card bosses.
    What's the point of the lore and themes if you make it have no impact on gameplay?

    My lukewarm take was that savage did not need to get banned. It was a non Destruction negate that required a link in the graveyard to be live and only had the negate if it was synchro summoned. Baronne is a negate and destroy with no setup needed, a pop, and a generic floating effect that allowed you to summon her next turn. Apollousa and baronne have far more in common than savage especially as savage cannot even play around Nibiru and unlike apollousa can only negate 1 handtrap per turn which by the time you would summon him would have probably already been used. You can argue dragon link but dragon link will always be a problem not because of the boss monsters but the extenders and combo makers.

    2:26 Nibiru becomes a garnet under mask of restrict, is banished unresolved by debunk or just blocked by solemns or rendered moot by building a viable end board in 4 or less summons. Nibiru has a lot of weaknesses and these weaknesses bite it harder when a player runs 3 Nibiru per deck. Early mask of restrict; enjoy 3 garnets when you draw them. Summoning less than 5 times per turn; ugh why did i even put this card in here? Counter traps; congratulations on wasting a resource. There are probably more weaknesses than i have mentioned all of which can be exploited without being considered broken enough to be banned themselves. Nibiru players would need to run discard for cost cards or multiple trade ins to get rid of Nibiru in these situations before Nibiru can be countered.

    That first hot take was completely wrong. I played branded 4 2 years and they have a total of 4 negates with a heavy restriction on each one. 1) tri-brigade merc, a monster negate as long as you have an albaz fusion on your field. This one is the easiest one to use. 2) Branded retribution, a spell, trap, monster negate but only on cards that summon monsters and you have to shuffle back an abalz fusion you control or 2 albaz fusions in you gy. Also exclusively used for its gy effect. 3) Rindbrum, a fusion monsters that negates extra deck monsters only. I honestly wished it was merc on legs and stopped mosters effects in general however i just use it for its gy effect. 4) Brigthest, Blazing, Branded king is a trap that can negate the entire field but you have to have an albaz fusion to target that will keep its effects active. This card is double edge because you might want to keep other cards active like branded lost, quem, or cartisia for effect on your opponents turn. If branded want a onmi negate the have to use the adventure engine or play red-eyes dark dragoon.

    I can understand the feelings of the "ban Nib" guy tbh. Some decks quite simply cannot play through it, and although you could argue the game would be better without some of those decks that do some pretty degenerate things (e.g. those HERO end boards with Dark Angel, Dark Law and Rivalry), it would be nice if the staple that is played everywhere by everyone didn't absolutely body them. Same logic as with D. Barrier and Shifter (which I also want gone).
    And if the combo piles were to lose their end board pieces and could no longer produce unbreakable board states, I too would like Nibiru gone. For now though, we need it.

VV also is just very clunky in summoning Barrone too to where it can't do it consistently. Banning Barrone doesn't change the power of these decks at all to where you can't really say they're "making use" when it's very occasional.

Also what they make playable together is weird like with the recent lore archetypes the visas lore it’s hard to play a deck that uses them all cause 2 of the 5 archetypes have some restriction that locks you out of playing the other strategies , the first archetype being scareclaw which boss monsters second effect locks you into scareclaws even though its effect is mid(also I love scareclaw it’s one of the only good designed control decks yet isn’t appreciated cause it’s not crazy OP) and kashtia rise heart with theosis, which I agree with theosis( and even with it’s restriction all you gotta do is be smart about using it and your good) but rise heart? Why strip related cards of synergy then turn around and allow snake eyes and fire king to be played together it makes you wonder what the hell the the people at Konami are thinking. long story short: how do lore related decks always have restrictions that stop them from being played together yet Konami do things like the year of fire where all fire strats can be played together?

      @@weeabooproductions2196 Hey, I'm not the guy that does that stuff lmao that's just what others have decided to do. As for whether it's better or not that remains to be seen by how it performs I never cared enough about Snake eyes to study how big then investments of their resources are. Also yeah dis pater and omega for the double handrip is cheesy AF especially when you realize that omega's handrip turns on dis pater's negate. It's always been a turn 1 play in my synchron deck to rip cards like superpoly out of my opponent's hand. (Truly peak Yu-Gi-Oh)

    i didnt see the twitter thread but heres some of mine.
    personally i didnt mind that baronne was a generic synchro boss monster, my issue with it was that it wasnt locked into synchro focused decks, like a deck like kash which most the time will xyz lock themselves runs baronne cause like 20% of the time they can make it.
    baronne being a single omni was never my problem with it, its how splashable it is. i dont know how much it would affect things but i would have loved to see the what could have happened if in order to summon baronne, you could only synchro summon for that turn. also never really liked the idea of 'just make it require a fluer' cause it feels like the same as 'just give every archetype a baronne' but in the opposite direction.
    people asking for shifter's ban dont really seem to get the real reason it should be banned. a two turn denial of the GY as a handtrap is strong, but imo thats fine. whats not fine is how it turns off cards that have to send cards specifically to the GY as cost.
    and while we talking about macro cosmos style effects, ariseheart was perfectly fair as a card. the thing that was hard caryying kash were things like 3 shifter and 3 prosp.

    Lmao I'll take the disagree though I wish I went a bit in further on why I said it. Basically the previous format to the banlist was one where outside of exactly Snake Eyes no meta decks were making a large use of Barrone or Savage. Branded wasn't, Labrynth Wasn't, VV doesn't constantly summon it, Tenpai isn't, R-Ace Diabellestar isn't, unchained isn't, purrely isn't, FK SE and Pure FK ain't either. If we're talking a couple of formats ago though where every deck was all about negate fests then yeah I'd be first in line for banning them but they've been falling out of favour for a while now pre snake eyes.
    Hit Snake eyes and suddenly everything is archetypal or locked into other summoning mechanics. Decks lately have been moving away from negate fests for a while now previously to snake eyes as well and yes I'm a combo player so I'm probably (ok definitely) biased so I definitely would like these cards to stay.
    While sure there's the off chance that a new meta deck may use them again it either won't be a tier 0 deck that's problematic enough to ban them or the deck itself is the more problematic.Even now Snake Eyes is going for handripping as a strat with dis pater and omega and I have no doubt the SE cards itself will get hit anyways so you cant really say that Barrone and savage were the main problems with that deck.
    Also I never expected I'd be in a RUclips video so that's a first. Thanks for reading and the reply (also yeah that's probably the only hot take I have for the game)

      It's really funny how people don't recognize in a game like Yugioh where power creep is endless how potent simply not supporting an archetype or card can be. Spright seemed like it would never not be meta even with Elf banned but you don't hear anyone talking about it now when level/rank 2s have been purposefully designed to not really play into their gameplan or not printed at all in favor of other shilled attributes. Jet Synchron being summonable by Snake-Eyes is an engine problem because that engine has a fucking E-Tele for it, level 1s to make Formula, and a level 8 boss monster to synch with it. That takes a lot of specificity to be "generically toxic". Same for Mannadium or Infernoble, previous synchro combo decks that gave Baronne most of her play last year to not much success.

    If there's another one of these:
    Casuals NEED to gatekeep people using obviously meta decks. I know this seems a bit broad of an ask, and it definitely does depend on where you are; But the fact that if someone were to just bring a top tier deck to a locals that are playing lower tier decks, they end up suffering against that deck because this game has devolved into a game of Raw Effects and Numbers. I just want Casuals to have a real space to have fun in and Konami makes it more and more apparent that they don't care about really making a space for them.
    Also Tiger to 3 man.

    This game just needs a general rule change to give players quadruple starting life. Negates, floodgates, huge draw power, etc. aren't the issue. Dying in 1 turn is. While were at it, make all level 4 or lower normal monsters special summon from hand for free and 5 or higher normal without tributing. Finally, Give Pends master rule 3 pend summoning. Lord knows they need it.

    Savage was a fine card because it required a few steps that made it too slow for the average deck to use. Snake-eyes being able to play past literally everything made it broken.
    Baronne I care a lot less about. Since it was just an easy card any deck that can count to ten with a tuner can make.

    This guy really just showed Rindrumm a picture and said "They have no single negate". Even as a person who only plays Branded in the first wave (Red, Chimera, and re-summon Mirrorjade with Ad Libitum), I know this has a negate and non-target bounce. I think the most annoying thing about Branded is their ability to board wipe but also have a crazy recovery effect. YGO players always only antagonize "negate" as the only bad thing in YGO. But doing too many things is also problematic. The only thing that makes Branded seem fair is that we are still in the format where generic good bosses exist. So, non-generic bosses should be "overtuned" to become equal to those generic good bosses. Mirrorjade for example, has the best removal in the game, non-target banish, and board wipe in EP if you accidentally sneeze and move this card from their main monster zone (this is very devastating, knowing most decks don't have in-engine protection or negates, and you cannot recover anything because it happens on the EP), guarantee backup from the "cost" it uses, and big.
    .
    Also, this guy just said Colossus was okay after he denied the "hypocrisy". I think this is what he means about the hypocrisy. Both of them aren't good for the game. Yes, you can use Impermanance to counter Colossus. But did you know, you can also counter Skill Drain if you draw Cosmis or Lightning Storm? If the other card is okay if you coincidentally draw a specific card, why the other card is not okay when you can counter this card?
    .
    Just because it is not a negate, doesn't mean this is fair. The virus is not negate and has a real cost (unlike that deck, the cost is searching new card in the EP). But this is unfair. I think if the number of disruptions is equal to or more than the cards in the opponent's hand. How do you think this is fair? I think 1-2 consistent disruptions (from combo) and inconsistent disruptions (good traps or hand traps) are enough to make a fair and fun game. With a lot of disruptions from modern decks today. You can really play the game unless you draw specific non-engine.

    I generally rather play against fire king snake eyes and pure snake eyes all day long, then play against any kind of ibly deck for a single turn. Btw if you were only gonna ban 2 out of the 3 omni negates, it should of been bow and borrload. Barone is the weakness and only has one fucking omni negate. I am personally fine with it and btw it's not better to go into over one of your Sword soul monsters. Yes I main sword soul and do pretty well the deck.

      That’s nonsense. Baronne is the worst of the 3 due to how easy you can go into her. Unlike the other 2 you can also keep summoning her back every turn or just pop something every turn.

      @arrownoir my dude, you are seriously drinking the borrone coollaid. It's easily the worst of the 3. He'll savage has more negates and is just as easy to Summon. In fact, it's way easier to go into savage because it's a level 8. Borrone van easily be played around with its measly 1 negate. If you wanna use it's negate again, after you used it on your opponents turn, you have to send it back the extra deck on your turn, and use more resources just to bring it out again. Yes being able to destroy a card one per turn is nice yes, but that doesn't much unless your getting rid of a flood gate or a key card. However I think your missing the fact that the game is so fast and that every deck either a crazy amount resources that can allow your monster to dodge or just come back into the game. In that statement, borrone doesn't do nearly enough in the meta. Sorry but in comparison, borrone is just to slow compared to savage and apo. He'll I play borrone in my sword soul deck for the last 2 years, and I almost never opponents to make it over long and chain, cause they just so much more then borrone and also push your deck forward.
