  • I've been getting a few questions consistently about gun defense, so I thought I'd make a quick video to answer them all at once. Hope this can help your training in some way.

    Excellent - This had the aggressive mindset of combatives, presented with the insightful, respectful approach of traditional martial arts.

    Kevin, you are one of my favorite self-defense instructors on RUclips by far. Keep up the great work, Brother, you're doing an excellent thing.

    Great video!
    I always find it faulty when people, outside of demonstrations and during supposed "realistic" practice, just stop after one move, or when an attacker will do some single attack, the defender reacts, and from then the attacker turns into a vegetable allowing the defender to do whatever. As you said, they must go through with it and attack till the end.

    Yet another fantastic video with some incredible footage. I really liked the analogy of "tripping at the olympics" as well; it added an interesting perspective that I feel added to the discussion. Great video, Kevin!

    Great Tip and video for gun defenses. Love the emphasis on principles

    Some of my own principles;
    Do not reach for a gun you can't reach. A person shooting from the hip 3 meters away is gonna have more fun than the person trying a transatlantic disarm.
    As Kevin stated, deescalation is key. I'd add consider bailing if it's an option.
    And probably the most important is to avoid tunnel vision. In any stressful situation, things become blurry and people act rash. To me at least, keeping calm is more important than knowing the latest wrist twist techniques.

    The "reflexive continuum" is particularly absent in knife fighting. I've seen thousands of people only train to first cut. I really wish "defanging the snake" was never thought of, or at least that people understood it better.
