7:17 And I just remembered I had a repressed memory of this movie. We borrowed a couple tapes from my grandparents. One of them was the anime Thumbelina and the other was this. And it SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME. I had vague memories of the footage up to THIS point in the video and now I remember everything about it.
This one and another Russian Pinochio movie were quite pleasant and entertaining to watch when I was a kid, not to mention how beautifully animated they are. Now, how about we give exposure to other great and hidden gems that are sadly obscured and not shown on cinemas because of blockbusters saturating the market and the monopoly that represent both Pixar and Disney, not to mention the corruption behind the Oscars Academy with its judges by now bothering to watch animated movies/films that should have deserved to be recognized. Case in point: *_The Breadwinner"_* (not to be confused with the abysmal and hideous Nickelodeon cartoon.) Hope you consider it.
*The message of this movie was to not let anyone take your freedom away from you. And to be smart around/avoid vices and strangers, so also self-accountability. It was a good lesson.* This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I even named a pet after Twinkle. You know, you can say what you want about these older cartoons, but they really *did* put the fear of talking to strangers into kids of that era. I miss the shows that, while still being clean in a media sense, weren't afraid to make some jokes kids would only get when they were older, and certainly weren't afraid to scare kids a little when trying to get a message across, because these same shows also respected the budding intelligence of their audience. They also took into mind that parents might watch the shows with their kids.

An italian youtuber made a video searching all proofs and truth about that controversy, and apparently the Lion king did not copy kimba
@@alessiobilleci2524 Interesting, but I was refering to YMS.
@@-Zakhiel- oh sorry,it seems i've misunderstood
Isn't the lion king basicaly hamlet ?
@@DanielPereira-ey9nt "basically" yes. But that's not plagiarism either.
Or if it is, most of what you know is plagiarism.
2:18 “Can you SMELL What Gepetto has been cooking 🤨”
Since James Earl Jones is in this film I just can't resist the urge...
"Geppetto never told you about your *REAL* father Pinnochio..."
"He told me enough Emperor, he told me you killed him"
"No... *I* am your Father"
"No, that's not true... *THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE* "
I almost kinda wish there was a twist in the film like that tbh 😂

Considering that Pinocchio is a young Scott Grimes... there's like a dozen Steve Smith from American Dad jokes I could think of. XD
Darth Vader: The emperor of the night... that's actually my master tho
I Loved the scene from when the wind blows xD especially since I watched the review of that recently. Hearing an old guy say it like that just makes these words so much more... Insulting? XD
The emperor of the night lookin like he was sponsored by nightmare enterprises
THIS DEDEDE PRODUCTION IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY, NIGHTMARE ENTERPRISES!
I NEED A NEW MONSTA FROM NME
I remember this movie, but only the part with the Emperor talking about "dreams and nightmares." It's like one of those memories from so long ago you had no idea about their context.
Do The Velventeen Rabbit, it's my main source of childhood trauma.
@Spyro The Bandicoot it was kinda like a Pinocchio story of a toy wanting to become real, but it gets kinda dark.
Is it the Adaption Narrated by the Talented Canadian actor Christopher Plummer
@@williampulfer-melville8536 I have no clue

Fernan A. Wilford It’s dark for a Disney film and a video on it would be interesting. The film isn’t and could never be as dark and depressing as it’s source material though (the novel) since it was made to be suitable for children.

14:02 Yorkshire puddings are like little rolls/muffins. They're also light and airy, not thick. Whoever wrote that line probably knew "Yorkshire Pudding" was an English dish but assumed it was the thick, liquidy sort of pudding and didn't bother to look it up.

I caught your “Mary’s theme” choice of song. Clever.
the fairy god mother's voice sounds almost identical to baby's voice from five nights at freddie's: sister location. even the slightly creepy tone to them.
She does sound like her.
12:58 What you get when Hexus and the Nightmare King join together as one!
Marionettes were also all alive and sentient in the source. Possibly all carved from trees from the same forest. All kinds of fantastical things happen with no explanation, and it's all treated as mundane, living marionettes included.

Uggghhh that was so bad. The only thing I recall from seeing it as a child was the messed up way the villain died.
SECONDED.
Idk if that’s dark enough for his channel but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.
The main thing I remember from seeing it as a child was the bit with Mother Nature.
We’re Back: A Dinosaur Story would be a great movie to cover!
Baryonyx Hunter yes! That circus was so creepy. And when the crows eat the guy 😨
Libbytheginge right?! The dark carnival scenes in this movie reminded me of it
And there is one deleted scene which is might be scary due to four dinosaurs turned into monstrous creatures after they agree and take the Brain Drain pills.
One of my favorites!!
That dude with his screw eye still creeps me out to this day.
Still traumatised by that puppet transformation/dance scene where he turns to wood.. Christ that caused nightmares for years..
7:30 with the Ib music made me so happy
Pinocchio doesn't need the Blue Fairy anymore, but later when he grows, he finds the Green Fairy in absinthe more and more interesting
The Emperor of the Night looks exactly like Mephisto, from Marvel Comics, especially seen from behind.
I'd just like to mention that the editing in this episode is particularly funny and clever.
Pretty sure there's a scene somewhere that shows the female puppet shed a tear... A brief hint that she was once a real girl and then turned.
16:20 For what i can get about her, she probably was a real girl, but probably interested in the puppet show and be part of, she wanted to join in, but the Puppet Master turned her into an wood puppet when she agreed to join in, clueless of the situation.
and even during the Pinocchio's puppet transformation, she showed some sentience, like a sad expression while seeing him transform and bowing down her head knowing that she couldn't save him from becoming a lifeless puppet (Blue Fairy probably turn her back, since she's just an innocent girl who had no idea of what she's getting into and her attempts of save the other kids from the Puppet Master).
(no clue if the other kids are alive as well but unlike Pinocchio or the girl (who are naivë), those other puppet kids are totally bad kids (similar in Pleasure Island))

I would like to see you do a review of the 1977 animated version of The Hobbit, Disney's Fantasia (the earlier one), The Black Cauldron and the tv show Red Wall, they all have their disturbing moments

Now that I've seen you reference Leo in your video, I'd really like to know your thoughts on Jungle Emperor Leo, aka Kimba the white lion.
Oh this is hitting some deep, possibly repressed memories of having watched this as a kid now. It’s like having that epiphany moment where you realize where your nightmares came from.
7:17
And I just remembered I had a repressed memory of this movie. We borrowed a couple tapes from my grandparents. One of them was the anime Thumbelina and the other was this. And it SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME. I had vague memories of the footage up to THIS point in the video and now I remember everything about it.
I recently discovered the canadian movie called Rock & Rule, definitely a movie you gotta check out. But stick with the Canadian version.

Ryan Meade alright just making sure
@@thememe-museum8669 yeah but id still like to see Steve's take on it.
Man that movie was weird. But honestly seemed like it wasn't bad
7:44 On that note, I think Steve should watch "Hell O' Dollies" and "House of the Marionettes" by Junji Ito, or better read them.
Well, everything that man produces is disturbing.
*The message of this movie was to not let anyone take your freedom away from you. And to be smart around/avoid vices and strangers, so also self-accountability. It was a good lesson.*
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid.
This is what they should have played during school PSA's for anti-drinking ads.
