Now you say near-perfect but I will say it's ABSOLUTELY perfect and here's why: the poetic concept of the son rescuing his father from the belly of the whale. Much like in Pinocchio where Geppetto is hesitant to leave the belly of the whale, he needs Pinochio to rescue him. Because Pinochio is the spirit of his father, and in rescuing him he moves closer towards his dream of becoming a 'real' boy (or man). In this case, Flynn was very hesitant to leave, he was wasting time knowing he portal might close. He just wanted to stay in there with his son. But Sam knew time was running out, and so he disobeyed his father and risked getting killed by meeting with the club owner (similar to Neo meeting with the Merovingian). In the end, he rescues his father's dream. The father wanted to introduce the world to the iso's and thought all was lost after the purge. But it wasn't. He still had one left: Quorra. And she's an interesting part of this, because Flynn only kept her around to help him spy on the grid. But Sam was the only one who could give her a life. He could turn her from a program stuck in a machine into a human by freeing her, giving her a chance at freedom, life and most of all love. That's what the sun signifies in the end. It's what she wanted, and only Sam could give her that. Whereas Flynn believed his dream was lost, trapped by his own guilt and frustration and hurt at the betrayal of CLU and his own powerlessness and mortality, he failed to see that even Quorra was worth fighting to free. At least he had her. And that's why he needed Sam to rescue him, for Quorra's sake. Flynn was trapped, being stuck in the machine had already taken up a huge chunk of his life, so he would not have lived many more years anyways, his life was over, therefore he gained perspective, and was able to make the decision in the end to sacrifice himself for the sake of his son, and also giving the world the gift of at least one iso that's Quorra. Another great cgi movie for the time is speed racer I watched it again in along time a few weeks ago and it looks like it came out like a year or two ago
The exact point where CLU finally cracked was right at the end. Imagine having one single objective in your whole life, and then learning that it doesn´t exist, or in Kevin´s words: "Perfection is unknowable". CLU knew at that moment that he was destined to aimlessly suffer forever. In CLU´s mind, Kevin Flynn has truly become the villain of the story.
I feel like every time I watch it, there’s a gaping hole inside of me. It’s one of those types of films/shows where you get so invested into that when it is over, you get an overwhelming surge of sadness and wishing it was real. I personally think that’s one of the strongest and longest lasting impressions a movie can have on you. The only other pieces of media that have made me feel like that are Lost and Avatar
It's kind of therapeutic to hear someone share their love and admiration for a film that I feel the exact same way about. Never understood the hate but after reading many of the comments, I realize I'm far from alone. Thank you for the amazing critique!
One thing that really confused the uninitiated is that the film is called TRON: Legacy, but Tron is hardly in it having been reduced to being a voiceless, faceless Darth Maul type enforcer assassin. Those of us who appreciated the original film recognized the significance of his, "I fight for the users" reawakening scene and subsequent return to blue. No one else noticed or cared. Very underrated film!
From The moment I saw the original Tron in the cinema I was hooked. It's still my favorite movie of all time & It led me down the path to my future. This movie(Legacy) is a very worthy sequel.
"The Perfect Beauty of Imperfection." - that's really deep & I didn't missed the message when I watched the movie. A real life scenario:- Humans are trying to fix Nature (Imperfection) with Technology (Perfection) but we're missing the point that, that's the beauty of Nature.

The 1st time I ever watched this movie I was on mushrooms for the very 1st time ever. The title to this video speaks to my soul. Calling it poetry does not do it Justice to what it truly is. The grid exists man. I was there. I could feel it.
There is a sadness that permeates the whole movie. Every major character has suffered a great loss, and very little of those losses are undone by the end. The soundtrack reflects the sadness in such a beautiful way.

I remember being young, and absolutely loving this movie when I first saw it. When I checked online it was made clear lots of people didn't like it. I'm so glad people finally realize TRON: Legacy is a masterpiece.
The original TRON hit me the same way Legacy affected you. I was desperate for a sequel. Legacy did not disappoint. I just wanted more. The animated series continued to feed my TRON hunger. I want the story to continue.
Is it a tale of God, and His most loved Angel, the Evening Star, Lucifer ? The fallen Angel, who became jealous of man, and turned on the Creator. When new life comes into being it creates the schism between the Creator and Clue.
Speaking of poetry, the movie's events are ALMOST symmetrical as if they RHYME like a poem, mostly once Sam enters the Grid. If you consider the scenes with the End of Line Club as the "center" of the film (even though it isn't the actual, timed center of the movie). The Tron films are some of my favourites, glad people still love them and talk about them. It's funny, because I binged through the entire franchise and then this popped up in my recommendations!
After all the cool visuals of the grid. Still the most beautiful scene in the movie was Quorra seeing the sun for the first time. As someone who gets sucked in by video games, a "program" appreciating the beauty of the sun reminded me to look outside and appreciate the beauty that exists in the real word, despite all it's imperfections.
You forgot one important detail... the director made this movie SPECIFICALLY during the 3d movie era... during the beginning 3d doesn't take effect until your in the grid... making the grid that much more visually stunning.
NO WORDS. this video explained perfectly my love for this film, my brothers just see it as another fun sci-fi movie but i just feel a deep conection to It, there's something so vivid, so hopeful about It. It makes me wish to be a part of It.

I don't understand why it didn't resonate more with people, and it seems Kosinski is cursed because Oblivion has had the same fate, despite having to me a similar underlying value.

Playing Tron:Evolution on the PS3 really elevated my appreciation of this movie, and the amount of detail they put into it. I still love this movie and I hope others do too.

I went to Disneyland when the tron events were happening, I remembered I spilled coke on me while dancing to the music there. It’s great to see people giving Tron Legacy its dues these days, it’s one of (if not) my favorite movies. It has a great sense of adventure with a dazzling digital world.
The intro and this comment section are making me feel ancient. 2011 feels like just yesterday to me; it’s surreal hearing so many people refer to it as their childhood.
Tron, and Tron Legacy are just pure master work art. Of course pure art executed at this level leaves most of the population clueless at launch time, but like all great pure art, more and more people get it every year decade after decade, century after century.
Such an amazing video! From the editing to the structure, it was beautifully composed. It shows the greatness yet hidden side of Tron legacy that definitely deserves more attention. :)
I think the problem with this movie at launch was that many expected it to be a standalone reboot, when in actuality, it's much more impactful when viewed as a sequel.
This franchise is so unique and I was worried they wouldn't have done justice to the original film. I remember watching the original in the 80's and was blown away. Tron Legacy released and did something very few remakes or franchise revivals do. It expanded the world and lore in every way that matters flawlessly. This film to me was perfection in every way. Makes me feel good others really appreciate this film as much as I do. Disney really sucks for what they have done to this franchise. ( Or hasn't done.) Thanks for the video. Got my sub for this.
It was my favorite movie ever for a while. If I had one way to improve the film, it would be to replace Koras recounting of her past while we watch that boring sky train plotzing along. That entire sequence needed to be replaced with an actual flash back sequence that would have served several functions: 1. Mirror Flynns flashback sequence, but given that kora was in the middle of the situation as an ISO herself, her flashback could be much more intense and up close and personal to the destruction and tragedy, serving as a logical extension of Flynns earlier flashback. 2. Expanding on the thoughts and feelings of both Kora and her fellow ISOs through conversation, allowing the audience to empathize with the ISOs before they are genocided. Rather than just seeing it earlier in the film as a distant skyscraper collapsing. 3. Toss up the relentlessly dreary and dark tone of Legacys world and storytelling style with perhaps a tone aiming more for the vibrant and colorful tone of the original Tron in this flashback, in order to avoid the films tone becoming a bit one note and dragging somewhat, which it ultimately did for many people as a primary complaint from what I can tell. Fortunately the tone of the film is so damn cool that it still works well enough without this scene added, but it would have made this a much more popular and well recieved film, in my humble opinion.

I think they executed it the way they did because it's a Disney film, and this was before the studio bought Marvel and Stars Wars. And btw... if you'd really like to know, the correct spelling of her name in the film is Quorra! I love all your ideas though, truly :)

I loved this film. I took groups of people to go see it when it came out. This still hold my record of 6 views in the theater. I wish I had my own theater to watch it whenever I want. I absolutely love this movie too!!
I keep an old 3d TV only to watch Tron Legacy, I hate the whole 3d movement but my god does this movies just pop on another level in 3d, worth every bit of the headache. There's another level in 3d, almost every frame has something new that's unseen in 2d.

This was truly a gift to the world about a movie that deserves another look. I for one love the soundtrack, and is in my top favorite albums. The concept of the digital world, the grid bringing forth a new life form, the Isomorphs is brilliant, and to me is a kind of evolution that is ahead of its time. Its the kind of thing that brings in a fresh element, and with my mind, I feel it has a story arc potential of a creative waterfall. I wish they'd continue the story. What more would The Grid have to offer? How does Cora cope in the real world?
For the past two years I've been writing a prequel film to bridge the gaps between Tron (1982), Tron: Uprising and Tron: Legacy. This is an untapped market and I absolutely adore the potential there
This video just came up for me and i really like it. Well structured with a lot of passion. I love both movies, i find that i like the same aspects of both movies for different reasons, be it the visuals, the music or the humanity of the programs. an underacknowledged moment is when ,with 3 words, you feel sorry for Clu. Someone who has the elements of the worst people in human history. There are some great antagonists in movies and shows and the best ones make you feel some form of sympathy for their backstory which has to be explored. Here you hear 3 words and it's an instant epiphany.
Honestly, I loved this film as soon as I saw it, similarly to how I love the original Tron. It is such a fascinating world to explore, and a fun premise in general. But it's only recently, when I'm older, that I learned to appreciate the poetry and religious allegories present in both works. But they both have incredible presentation, which is why I want to take whatever opportunity I can to recreate the Grid in a game. I'm glad I was able to meet Jeff Bridges and got him to sign my drawing of Kevin Flynn. Also, a side note, the Uncanny valley Bridges, while revolutionary for it's time, has the unintentional side effect of adding to CLU's appearance. Obviously he's a digital program, and the Uncanny valley can use that as in-universe justification. But it works on a different level because it helps identify him as an unsettling part of Flynn. We know something about him is off immediately, and that helps translate that he's a static, digital copy of what his creator used to be.

It’s the best use of CGI in a film I’ve ever seen. The visuals are still Stunning and Daft Punk did the soundtrack....What’s not to like?

I too experienced it on drugs. Maybe that's why it sticks out so much for me. But I wept at the end because it was such an emotional overload

Playing Tron:Evolution on the PS3 really elevated my appreciation of this movie, and the amount of detail they put into it. I still love this movie and I hope others do too.

I went to Disneyland when the tron events were happening, I remembered I spilled coke on me while dancing to the music there. Of course pure art executed at this level leaves most of the population clueless at launch time, but like all great pure art, more and more people get it every year decade after decade, century after century.

I think the problem with this movie at launch was that many expected it to be a standalone reboot, when in actuality, it's much more impactful when viewed as a sequel.

This franchise is so unique and I was worried they wouldn't have done justice to the original film. I remember watching the original in the 80's and was blown away. Tron Legacy released and did something very few remakes or franchise revivals do. It expanded the world and lore in every way that matters flawlessly. This film to me was perfection in every way. Makes me feel good others really appreciate this film as much as I do. Disney really sucks for what they have done to this franchise.

The soundtrack of this movie hits on another level
Tron Legacy and Tron Uprising both continue to amaze me with their visual details and mind-bending ideas.
It was my favorite movie ever for a while. If I had one way to improve the film, it would be to replace Koras recounting of her past while we watch that boring sky train plotzing along. That entire sequence needed to be replaced with an actual flash back sequence that would have served several functions:
1. Mirror Flynns flashback sequence, but given that kora was in the middle of the situation as an ISO herself, her flashback could be much more intense and up close and personal to the destruction and tragedy, serving as a logical extension of Flynns earlier flashback.
2. Expanding on the thoughts and feelings of both Kora and her fellow ISOs through conversation, allowing the audience to empathize with the ISOs before they are genocided. Rather than just seeing it earlier in the film as a distant skyscraper collapsing.
3. Toss up the relentlessly dreary and dark tone of Legacys world and storytelling style with perhaps a tone aiming more for the vibrant and colorful tone of the original Tron in this flashback, in order to avoid the films tone becoming a bit one note and dragging somewhat, which it ultimately did for many people as a primary complaint from what I can tell.
Fortunately the tone of the film is so damn cool that it still works well enough without this scene added, but it would have made this a much more popular and well recieved film, in my humble opinion.

I think they executed it the way they did because it's a Disney film, and this was before the studio bought Marvel and Stars Wars. And btw... if you'd really like to know, the correct spelling of her name in the film is Quorra! I love all your ideas though, truly :)

Tron:Legacy reminds me a lot of Speed Racer in the way that it’s so beautiful and so unsuccessful. I rewatch both of those movies pretty regularly.

I keep an old 3d TV only to watch Tron Legacy, I hate the whole 3d movement but my god does this movies just pop on another level in 3d, worth every bit of the headache. There's another level in 3d, almost every frame has something new that's unseen in 2d.

tron is a perfectly imperfect film
This was truly a gift to the world about a movie that deserves another look. I for one love the soundtrack, and is in my top favorite albums. The concept of the digital world, the grid bringing forth a new life form, the Isomorphs is brilliant, and to me is a kind of evolution that is ahead of its time. Its the kind of thing that brings in a fresh element, and with my mind, I feel it has a story arc potential of a creative waterfall. I wish they'd continue the story. What more would The Grid have to offer? How does Cora cope in the real world?
For the past two years I've been writing a prequel film to bridge the gaps between Tron (1982), Tron: Uprising and Tron: Legacy. This is an untapped market and I absolutely adore the potential there
This video just came up for me and i really like it. Well structured with a lot of passion. I love both movies, i find that i like the same aspects of both movies for different reasons, be it the visuals, the music or the humanity of the programs. an underacknowledged moment is when ,with 3 words, you feel sorry for Clu. Someone who has the elements of the worst people in human history. There are some great antagonists in movies and shows and the best ones make you feel some form of sympathy for their backstory which has to be explored. Here you hear 3 words and it's an instant epiphany.

Honestly, I loved this film as soon as I saw it, similarly to how I love the original Tron. It is such a fascinating world to explore, and a fun premise in general. But it's only recently, when I'm older, that I learned to appreciate the poetry and religious allegories present in both works.
But they both have incredible presentation, which is why I want to take whatever opportunity I can to recreate the Grid in a game.
I'm glad I was able to meet Jeff Bridges and got him to sign my drawing of Kevin Flynn.
Also, a side note, the Uncanny valley Bridges, while revolutionary for it's time, has the unintentional side effect of adding to CLU's appearance. Obviously he's a digital program, and the Uncanny valley can use that as in-universe justification. But it works on a different level because it helps identify him as an unsettling part of Flynn. We know something about him is off immediately, and that helps translate that he's a static, digital copy of what his creator used to be.
This was a masterpiece. Why people did not love it I can not understand. I truly can't.
