    No kidding it looks heavily "inspired" by Star Trek, every single part of it screams Star Trek from the Warp Reactor to the Bridge, heck the ships outward appearance is pretty much that of a Miranda Class minus the Warp Nacelles.
    Not saying this is a bad thing mind you :) Also I thought that the distance to planets in the Sol system being measured in AU's and Stars in LY's was a nice touch.

    I think I'm a "wait and see" on this. I feel like the demo is too early access to make a good guess on where it will go. What I do like is the whole ship formula, and the simulation of the power systems. There's a LOT of empty space in that ship to fill (and I hope there might be other designs of ship perhaps too).
    I see arguments here about lack of other activities/people on the ship and my view is that I just hope this is part of the extremely early state of the demo and that these will come into play. Moreover, I see power supplies for shield and weapon systems. Which opens the door for missions that could include space battles. On that count, I'm also tentatively hopeful for optional multiplayer (same ship and multiple ships). I'm thinking MMO level multi ship battles as somewhat wishful thinking, but could be very interesting. Something akin to elite dangerous where you can join/get a ship that is more suited to space battles, exploration, science or some balanced choice and missions appropriate to that could be taken up.
    I think this shows a lot of promise, but as is very common with the genre that is so hit and miss. It could go either way.
    If the developers are reading comments here. On any kickstarter created for this project, I think making a good concise overview (I know it sounds a bit like a contradiction in terms, but hope you know what I mean) of what you intend to make in a finished game is important. Personally any decision to back a project like this really would depend on what the intentions for any final product will be.

    So I gave this a try a while back and followed the step-by-step instructions to start up the engines and such. Now, bear in mind that I'm a HUUUUUGE space game fan and have been since, well, Star Raiders on the Atari 2600 :) I came away from my experience with this sim thinking...who is this for? Who would want to know the very detailed (but absolutely necessary) processes involved with the engineering section on a fuax Star Trek starship? The number of people that would want to basically learn all of this stuff, basically a "study level" game, would be akin to those that learn all the aircraft ship systems on DCS sims, though probably a lot fewer in number :) Massive A+++ for ambition on this, but I'm just wondering who would want to do this by themselves? Or, on the other hand, who would want to sit belowdecks for engineering while someone is up on the bridge?

    • @Cleeeer
      @Cleeeer 7 месяцев назад +2

      Those very people you mentioned. The reason this game has all playable roles is to appeal to all types of people. I don't personally have an appeal to engineering, helm or being a Captain but plenty of people will. I just want to be a chef on a starship, and luckily, it'll have that :D There are quite a few role-play groups already playing the game, and they always have very eager engineers :)
      If a role doesn't appeal to you, leave that job to an NPC.

      also what happen when ship take damage, when that mechanic gets added, how will the Engineer role handle it, as it may be complex or to simple, Currently it simple mostly and AI npcs can fufill the basic Engine/Power needs, but when hull damage or Structural integrity gets added then when you need somebody to man the Engineering system to make fast repairs.
      plus their going to be science roles and Medical those are also Kinda boring at least from a triple a standpoint, at the very least going by that tutorial the game will have medium to complex roles for players to do some will be simple like bridge crew or Janitor but other might be complex.
      either way i like it and i can barely play aircraft/Mechanic sims.

      The multiplayer is not a necessity. The game is singleplayer, with the option of players joining. There is a 200 man bot crew. If a player joins, 1 bot is replaced. But there will be DLC campaings that are singleplayer only. You will not only leave the ship to repair certain parts of it, you can send probes or shuttles to asteroids or planets, upon which there might be thousands of species, plants, trees, and minerals. Minerals which can later be used to process and repurpose to use in your ship. Every wallpanel, every cable, every part of the ship can be damaged, replaced and upgraded by finding better minerals.

    The walking around on the ship looks clunky. Not really a fluid movement so-to-speak. How does the ship maintain gravity? Seems like that's one aspect many of these games leave out. That in itself, was compared to the difference between Star Trek & The Expanse. The Expanse looks and feels more realistic. In Star Trek, there's no evidence of weightlessness even when the ship has been badly damaged and ship systems are down.

      The game will have many planets that you can land on, take samples. with thousands of species on each planet, or nothing at all depending on it´s atmoshpere. Anyways you will have a lot of materials you can find, mine and extract to change components of the game. Every panel, every station can be damaged, and most be repaired or replaced. Even the cables that run along the way. So if you find a new mineral that conducts electricity more efficiently. The poor sod in engineering will have to start producing them, and replacing every cable in the ship

    • @tuff9486
      @tuff9486 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@python27au Right now, it has few features except travalling around and scanning planets for limited information. and turning on and off the reactor, which takes a while. But in the finished version of the game it will add alien races, and many first contact missions. The game will be portrayed as Humanity´s first venture into the stars. You are the first ship to ever be sent out. This means you will encounter both scripted and procedurally generated alien races. Some of which are so advanced that their existance, technology and motives are totally incomprehensible to us, as stated by the dev.
      It is up to you to first, decipher the alien language with your linguist on board. Or to wage war or whatever you want. Sometimes the aliens will give you missions or want help with something. Or they will attack on sight.
      With the scope of the galaxy, there might be millions of alien races. Thousands in each sector of the galaxy. The galaxy is so large that we will probably never discover all races and planets, which are procedurally generated.

    I had a look and I have to say. Someone there really loves Star Trek. 😆
    Interesting though. Looks interesting from multiplayer point of view, but if you start looking at this game as a single player then few things pop up.
    The ship is big. A bit too big for one player. Unless you will have NPC crew, but then how will the gameplay look like?
    I know it's only a demo and will keep one of my eyes on it but it has a long way ahead if it wants to be interesting for single player people like me.

      200 NPCs will be in control of the ship in all crew roles. When you join the game, you'll choose one of those roles to take over. If you don't want to work, and you just want to enjoy the journey, you can just choose passenger :)

    • @Cleeeer
      @Cleeeer 6 месяцев назад +1

      To be funded by a company ( a publisher) the studio would need to give away some control of the game. This has caused loads of problems for other games, especially a passion project like this one, it would be ripped apart by a publisher who just wants to push it out and make money. Kickstarter gives the studio full control.

    This one could have potential for some great role playing/emergent game play if they get the multiplayer right. I could see a whole server being dedicated to one ship, and as you log in you get slotted into an open role. Seniority for positions could be based on time in the current session. I could see players all working toward a shared goal if the incentive is strong enough. Could also end up in mutiny and total chaos, which could be fun sometimes too. Just as long as it doesn't happen every play session.
