- It's still late Spring and Jen's out sick. So I take the time on a weekday to solo hike a massively popular trail in the Snoqualmie region, Mailbox. Turns out my choice isn't so great and I send myself into a bit of a challenge.

I learned to "find a diamond, sight a diamond" today. Thank you!
Heheh you are very welcome, Stuart. Now figure out how to apply this to coding...find a bug, sight a bug, burn it all down?
The trails in Europe are all marked with different color paint on trees, rocks etc. + signs on crossing tracks, its something I can't explain myself why we don't have around?
did this one a few weeks back, on the old trail....the mailbox was deep in snow.
As usual, excellent job at bringing us along. I live on the bald prairies and your videos are like mini-vacations for me. Thank you😊
You're welcome Jeremy! To be honest, I like watching your videos because I don't get enough time on the farm. So it's 50/50. :)
I dont know the exactly expression in english, but this is what we call "blood on the eye". Its when you are determined to do something, and nothing will let you down. I felt that you were this way on this hike. Without you partner, in a bear's land, on a "punishing hike", as you said. Thats the adventurer/hiker spirit. You're a brave man, Nick! Bravo!!!
Sometimes you just have to drink the coffee without the sugar or milk. Hah, who am I kidding, that's how I always drink it. :)
I just came back from mailbox and I had a 360 degree veiw of the clouds. the old trail is like hell if he'll was fun
Whew. My legs are burning just watching this. Nice challenge, over 2.5 miles! That would be a fun workout.
I'm curious, what's the most aggressive incline you have in your area Tim? And you get extra points for the added weight that all the ticks keep piling on. :)
Outside & Stuff ha! Nothing like what you did here but it depends on what you call my area. Nothing to speak of in Ohio. The Smokies one of the toughest is 4200 gain in 6 miles. To get really aggressive you'd have to head to the Whites, Catskills or Adirondack high peaks I believe. Planning a trip out that direction sometime. Devil's path in the Catskills is supposed to be the toughest in the East.
you're such an inspiration, my man! just moved to the area and these videos are getting me pumped up!
very cool hike
Nice hike!!!
Another great vid!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you!
Never knew about Dirtybox Peak, now I know and I might put a new geocache up there! Went up the same trail 5 times and never knew how dumb can I be! XD
Fantastic Video. Heading up for my first trip in few hours⛰😎!
Great video (and great effort getting up there), thanks for sharing!
Did the same trip in this vid today, thanks to this giving me the courage to head towards dirty box! It's definitely worth the scramble, and the view is gorgeous up dirtybox
This was fun to watch. I did the old trail with a friend back in 2005. I was out of shape and the old trail is no joke, it'll kick your butt. I still have vivid memories of the butt kicking when I did that hike.
If you have good endurance and mental fortitude you can make the summit even if your out of shape, although you'll pay for it.
Really love this channel. Miss you regular video uploads. Go for a hike or something already!!!
Thanks for taking us along Nick ! I bet you missed your partner in crime Jen, hope she is feeling better and ready to climb again soon . Amazing views from that peak for sure!
Ernie
She's doing a lot better, as you saw on our facebook post. :)
yup :)
Thanks for the footage of the old trail, I feel much more confident with the challenge. I have climbed Mailbox several times now on the "way too long" new trail as I was afraid my knee could not handle ascending the old. It looks tough but doable and fun- next time it's up Old and down New. Speedy recovery to Jen- I just returned from a trip to Florida and I brought back some upper respiratory souvenir from riding in the pressurized metal germ tube.
Russell, you can totally do the old up and the new down. I was a bit of a bonehead and decided to do the old down as well. Needless to say, it took me a bit longer than I was hoping.
Hei great page ☺ Keep it up!
Didn't know about the bonus trail! We did this one last weekend and it was cloudy up there. You definitely picked a great day to hike it. Took the new trail up and really enjoyed it. I feel like it has better views. Took the old trail on the way down and it was still pretty punishing.
I'm a little obsessed with this ridgeline, so the fact that I could bag two peaks on one day was definitely a plus. I have yet to see the new trail. We've tried Dirty Harry's and got snowed out, now I hear they are building a new trail up it. Either way, I think Putrid Peet (P3) and Webb mountain are on our upcoming list to continue knocking off the peaks on the North side of this corridor. :)
The old trail is the only trail to the Mail box P, don't even think of wasting time on the shameful new one, think like Mount Si new vs old... just boring
thats two feet forward one foot up. Crazy. Im gonna hit up Beckler peak in the next couple weeks. I saw you have a video for that one I been there b4 but always just me and my dog, this year i have a friend that likes to go. have a nice day !
Beckler should be getting pretty good by now. When we went a few weeks back, there was still quite a bit of snow. Enjoy and try to arrive early so you can get a parking spot. :)
I usually go on off days so i dont have to deal with crowds. (Dog isnt a people person) or maybe it's me ha!.. But if the lots full i'll hit up Eagle lake or something else near there. I've done many washington hikes now.. i think this summer i want to complete all the lookouts, While also visiting my favorite spots :). Have a nice day !
Nice Solo Nick, just curious, you ever calculate how much longer YOU make the trail everytime you have to double back for your camera?. Nice job.
Good question. I don't think it adds that much more time. It's kind of like a forced break when I do it. So I like to think I would be resting regardless. BUT, I do run back to grab the camera and then I sometimes hustle to catch back up with Jen or just try to maintain a higher pace to make up. I should learn to relax more. :)
That rock field is terrifying. Is it natural?
As Iggy Pop once stated and yes you embodied "No I wont crap out.. no I'll never.... Crap out" what's Jens excuse?. :) Great vids guys.. keep on trekking the great PNW, and dont ever crap out..
Hiked this up with our standards back in April....2017. We love you guys. Look us up on Facebook.
How easy is to find the next white diamond ? Looks so easy to get lost there.
What app are you using for the map on the trail?
what shoes do you hike in?
15:13 you are...a mountain goat
Hahah, that is not the first time I've been called that. :)
What's your camera set up?
Just a Gopro Hero 4 on a selfie stick :)
You should bring an American flag on your next hike and plant it at the summit
what gps app do u you use??
Gaia GPS :)
Wow, somebody hiked up carrying a baby
Not sure Dirtybox is worth it. Maybe once
I hope you knew that girl cause she was freakin rude.
Dirty box without wife/girlfriend, she should know ......naughty naughty. Hahaha dumb joke. I send this as a traveler of time...... 5 yrs in future, crazy I know
