  • It's still late Spring and Jen's out sick. So I take the time on a weekday to solo hike a massively popular trail in the Snoqualmie region, Mailbox. Turns out my choice isn't so great and I send myself into a bit of a challenge.

      Heheh you are very welcome, Stuart. Now figure out how to apply this to coding...find a bug, sight a bug, burn it all down?

      The trails in Europe are all marked with different color paint on trees, rocks etc. + signs on crossing tracks, its something I can't explain myself why we don't have around?

    As usual, excellent job at bringing us along. I live on the bald prairies and your videos are like mini-vacations for me. Thank you😊

      You're welcome Jeremy! To be honest, I like watching your videos because I don't get enough time on the farm. So it's 50/50. :)

    I dont know the exactly expression in english, but this is what we call "blood on the eye". Its when you are determined to do something, and nothing will let you down. I felt that you were this way on this hike. Without you partner, in a bear's land, on a "punishing hike", as you said. Thats the adventurer/hiker spirit. You're a brave man, Nick! Bravo!!!

      Sometimes you just have to drink the coffee without the sugar or milk. Hah, who am I kidding, that's how I always drink it. :)

    Whew. My legs are burning just watching this. Nice challenge, over 2.5 miles! That would be a fun workout.

      I'm curious, what's the most aggressive incline you have in your area Tim? And you get extra points for the added weight that all the ticks keep piling on. :)

    • @TimWatsonOutdoors
      @TimWatsonOutdoors 7 лет назад

      Outside & Stuff ha! Nothing like what you did here but it depends on what you call my area. Nothing to speak of in Ohio. The Smokies one of the toughest is 4200 gain in 6 miles. To get really aggressive you'd have to head to the Whites, Catskills or Adirondack high peaks I believe. Planning a trip out that direction sometime. Devil's path in the Catskills is supposed to be the toughest in the East.

    This was fun to watch. I did the old trail with a friend back in 2005. I was out of shape and the old trail is no joke, it'll kick your butt. I still have vivid memories of the butt kicking when I did that hike.
    If you have good endurance and mental fortitude you can make the summit even if your out of shape, although you'll pay for it.

    Thanks for the footage of the old trail, I feel much more confident with the challenge. I have climbed Mailbox several times now on the "way too long" new trail as I was afraid my knee could not handle ascending the old. It looks tough but doable and fun- next time it's up Old and down New. Speedy recovery to Jen- I just returned from a trip to Florida and I brought back some upper respiratory souvenir from riding in the pressurized metal germ tube.

      Russell, you can totally do the old up and the new down. I was a bit of a bonehead and decided to do the old down as well. Needless to say, it took me a bit longer than I was hoping.

    Didn't know about the bonus trail! We did this one last weekend and it was cloudy up there. You definitely picked a great day to hike it. Took the new trail up and really enjoyed it. I feel like it has better views. Took the old trail on the way down and it was still pretty punishing.

    • @OutsideAndStuff

      I'm a little obsessed with this ridgeline, so the fact that I could bag two peaks on one day was definitely a plus. I have yet to see the new trail. We've tried Dirty Harry's and got snowed out, now I hear they are building a new trail up it. Either way, I think Putrid Peet (P3) and Webb mountain are on our upcoming list to continue knocking off the peaks on the North side of this corridor. :)

    • @iancho9587
      @iancho9587 7 лет назад +1

      The old trail is the only trail to the Mail box P, don't even think of wasting time on the shameful new one, think like Mount Si new vs old... just boring

    thats two feet forward one foot up. Crazy. Im gonna hit up Beckler peak in the next couple weeks. I saw you have a video for that one I been there b4 but always just me and my dog, this year i have a friend that likes to go. have a nice day !

    • @OutsideAndStuff
      @OutsideAndStuff  7 лет назад +1

      Beckler should be getting pretty good by now. When we went a few weeks back, there was still quite a bit of snow. Enjoy and try to arrive early so you can get a parking spot. :)

    • @SkyValleyStuff
      @SkyValleyStuff 7 лет назад +1

      I usually go on off days so i dont have to deal with crowds. (Dog isnt a people person) or maybe it's me ha!.. But if the lots full i'll hit up Eagle lake or something else near there. I've done many washington hikes now.. i think this summer i want to complete all the lookouts, While also visiting my favorite spots :). Have a nice day !

    Nice Solo Nick, just curious, you ever calculate how much longer YOU make the trail everytime you have to double back for your camera?. Nice job.

    • @OutsideAndStuff
      @OutsideAndStuff  7 лет назад +3

      Good question. I don't think it adds that much more time. It's kind of like a forced break when I do it. So I like to think I would be resting regardless. BUT, I do run back to grab the camera and then I sometimes hustle to catch back up with Jen or just try to maintain a higher pace to make up. I should learn to relax more. :)
