- The Shanghai track is a very special track and especially difficult in terms of setup after F1 hasn't been here for 4 years!
Why is the track so special?
How does a track change over time?
How will teams find the right setup for this (first sprint) weekend?

"The Shanghai Setup" sounds like a great name for a 1950s crime noir film
... or the next global financial crisis. 🙄
Or... Band 🤔...
I know its a pain for the teams, but that enclosed start/finish straight is really cool. what a sound
For cars that don't sound like vacuum cleaners, yeah.
@@C.I...it ain’t the cars it’s the damn microphone placement being allowed to be BURIED by the teams and not mandated and the track side microphones on average being over 200 feet from the origin of the sound itself. Couple that with commentary literally yapping over 50% of “audio up” moments on broadcast where they actually set the equalizers to something acceptable for sound and you get idiots like you saying these cars sound like vacuum cleaners. They are FAR FROM IT
@@TANGYHATCHYthem getting rid of the second exhaust pipe microphone after 2021 was a horrible decision for sound that still won’t be fixed for years
@@TANGYHATCHY No its the MGU-H. There weren't many complaints before 2014
@@TANGYHATCHYaudio up hasn’t been used for a while now
The driver are saying it looks like the track's surface has been sealed/painted recently. They're concerned that the grip will change drastically over the race weekend and that the tires chosen may not initially work.
They added a section of track that starts weeping glue every 5 laps. Drivers are required to take the next few corners wide, building a layer of retread. It's genius.
Wow the track looks like 「上」! Never knew that, cool fact!
Same, even as someone who knows Chinese characters. Imagine Arabia tracks designed to resemble Arabic words! That would be crazy.
@@groundedgaming I’m Chinese haha was genuinely surprised I didn’t know. Now I wonder if any other tracks take inspiration from their local language…
@@harryfeng4199 For a start, I think a few NASCAR tracks are inspired by the letters O and D😂
@@groundedgaming lmaooooo that was a good one hahah. U from the States?
@@harryfeng4199 no I'm from SEA Southeast Asia
2:20 I have seen somewhere that the track has very recently been resurfaced, which could make for some chaos if it rains at all.
It's actually worse than that, there is an article in Planet F1 stating that the track has been painted rather than resurfaced so let the chaos begin, made in China......
And of course it rained in the first qualifying and it was indeed chaos
Going to be a very interesting race for sure, really cool track as well
we learn so much with you thanks you so much
Turns 2, 3, 4, look fun.. like our 80s Slot Car track's..
THERE WILL BE ALOT OF DNF"s FOR SURE ,,, MOSTLY OVERHEATING BUT THE PITLANE COULD SEE IT'S SHARE !!!
I wonder if the sealant was a tofu dregs job. This power critical track will hurt all the Mercedes teams let alone the hopeless Renault (or Alpine if you must).
It's going to be very interesting!
"and Max Verstappen wins the Chinese Grand Prix..." still, but who knows, we might have a surprise or two.
I think that Mercedes could show improved performance on this track, the team has stated that their car feels ok out of the box and that it goes away from them as others improve their set up, with only the one practice session before the sprint qualifying teams don't have as much time to dial their cars into the track so Mercedes could benefit from this. McLaren will struggle due their deficit in the slow speed corners, they're also suffering from too much drag on the car so their top speed disadvantage is likely to cause them to fall behind Mercedes. Aston Martin should also beat McLaren as they're stronger in the slow speed corners and have a faster top speed. The order should be RB, followed by Ferrari then it should be close between Aston Martin and Mercedes with McLaren a bit further behind. Its also likely that Ricciardo could crash due to overdriving the car trying to keep up with Tsunoda as it is make or break time for him, if he fails this weekend we could see Lawson replace him in the following race. A big unknown this race is the weather and how any rain will affect the grip levels on the freshly painted track. If it rains for the sprint the drivers will be extra cautious and if wet conditions persist for the main race drivers like Alonso, Sainz Hamilton Norris and Stroll will outperform the others. Williams bosses will be hoping for a dry and boring race with no incidences or accidents to further deplete their stock of spare parts.
Low speed corners? Theres one the highest stress corners before the back straight, and some full speed ones
Sector 1 and 2 are almost all slow corners…..
@Redlingstein turn in of 1 is flat out until they brake while turning, and turn 3 or 4 full throttle left and then right while braking. It's not maggotts and becketts but i wouldn't call it low speed
Edit: its turn 7 and 8, sector 2 now that I think about it, but still.
They’re characterised as “medium-speed”, but it strikes me this is open to interpretation. The cars should be able to take some speed in, but the continual turning that the opening corners complex and Sector 2 inflict means some cars will lose speed, give up grip & slide their tires into overheating. Then they’ll cool them on the long straights and put them into graining.
P1 Friday will be really important. Plus teams can make more blind set-up changes before GP qualifying.
Expect Red Bull & Ferrari to treat the Sprint as extra set-up gathering information and split tire strategies between cars. McLaren will go as hard as they can with tire compounds as tire slide will be a big problem for them otherwise. Mercedes & Aston, RB & Haas will roll the dice on softer compounds in the Sprint looking for points. This might mix-up the Sprint, but I expect the top 3 teams to come out on top. Expect Mercedes to get lucky and/or fall apart with set-up changes between Sprint & GP Race 😼

So it's a Tofu Dreg F1 track🤔
Wait I saw someone joke that the track is made of polystyrene but it's actually not far from the truth. Just made ON instead of made OF. Yikes.
I'm excited because honestly no one can beat me on F123 on this track. My setup is so good and smooth. For the ones who never raced there, the biggest feature/characteristic of the circuit in my opinion is the really hard breaking in lots of corners. So you can gain so much time when you master it.
Dumbest idea ever too build the track where it is.
Basically, this track makes no sense and would never have been built if it wasn't for F1 wanting a race in China.
Don't watch then
So tell me, does F1 wanted 3 races in the US ? I don't think so
@@lichh64 I don't
@@The.sizzler Obviously? Why else would there be three races in the US otherwise?
@@Oscar97o then keep your negativity to yourself
Remember the Uyghurs slaves being abused as we watch the race this weekend
Spoiler: Max is going to win.
Has to be one of worst racing tracks ever, there's no flow in the whole circuit.
The drivers LOVE this track and especially the flow of this track. Max mentioned that flow on his sim hot lap on RBR Ytchannel
@@Redlingstein Max does that for every track, PR yapping. Otherwise Max claims he likes tracks which have medium and high speed corners.
@onespeedyboi9835 don't think he does that for jedda which is the worst in history period
@@onespeedyboi9835Before dutch gp last year, china has the most car overtake in a race ever, and that's without a rain (if i remember correctly). It's a good track, you're just hating the country. Also I don't think max is one for doing PR yapping, guy always says what he want.
