    Maddy and Boaty's run around the BRC Area 18 novice (90cm/2'9") pairs eventer challenge at Grange Farm, Swalcliffe. Some poles went flying but we still managed fifth place. This horse has brilliant (and huge) ears. That's Pigeon and me in front! :)

      Thanks Georgie. They are good horses even if Boaty makes poor Maddy work around the course. Really looking forward to hearing how you and Woody get on with your first BEU18's - I think you'll be grand ;-)

    I am new to your channel and love it! I like my little daily dose of 'a horse called pigeon' and think that you're both fantastic. Both very brave and, as a coward, I love jumping vicariously through you both! And anyone who thinks that the horse does all the work only has to hear the exertion in your breathing! I am usually puffing after any little trot or canter so am full of admiration :-)

    Ciara Petal Firstly - sorry to be slow to reply! I'm no expert on this problem. Have you tried taking her with another horse that will quietly walk past the tent etc? I guess you need to build this up slowly over time. Keep going back and try to get a little further each time and turn back before she bolts with you so it is your decision. Sometimes riding shoulder in past monsters can help to distract their attention or slowing right down so she can have a good look might help? I'm not sure really, but I would say avoid any massive battles as that might make things worse! Goof luck with it and thanks for watching :)

    Do you have any tips on getting a horse used to new places? My pony is having trouble with new trails. there is a big flappy tent on one of the popular trails and she always tries to run towards home where she feels safe. Also there are xc jumps past there which is annoying because I love xc!

      Ciara Petal don't jump her right away walk her around to get her used to where your going and try little jumps before big ones

    Hi your a very good rider first off but I have 2 questions I'm just starting cross country jumping on my two horses (I have been riding for soon to be 11 years) my horse stormy is a 19 year old Arabian she was trained in show jumping but I rode her for pleasure shows for 7 years now I sorta want to get back into jumping her she is refused almost all of her jumps (1ft2in small I know but I want to get her used to it) is there any way to not have her refuse any help would be nice
    My next question is I have a 13 year old Arabian she was trained in gymkhana but I enjoy jumping more she is stopping after the jump same height as before would you reccomend I use spurs or a crop I don't plan on taking them to compitions or anything but I think its fun any advice thanks

    • @anadin56
      @anadin56  10 лет назад

      Hi Rose - thanks for watching and sorry to be slow to reply! If the refusing is a sudden change it is definitely worth getting all the usual checks done - back, teeth, saddle - just in case there is any pain. Other than that I'm not sure! Have you tried following another horse? I'm sure some extra 'encouragement' from a crop or spur will help but I'd also make a big fuss of the horse when you do make progress. That way you will hopefully make it fun for them too. Good luck - let me know how you get on :)

      @rosesuddard5949 10 лет назад +1

      OK thanks so much for the help and the reply I did try haveimg her follow a horse and it worked quite well I also have started using a crop and maybe spurs but I'm gonna see how the crop works the saddle seems just fine and her back is fine too but it is about time to get her teeth done so I'm going to get that done for all of my horses I also tried in hand jumping her and it really helped thanks so much for all of your help oh and pigeon has the cutest ears

    Is the xc straight after the showjumping or do they give you some time inbetween? thanks

  • @morganbotto3846
    @morganbotto3846 7 лет назад

    so when maddy rides boaty in the show ring or out cross country if she has a crop use it. it is not your emany it is your friend. she should use it more. but she did do a good job keeping up and staying with the horse.

    Did you ever have any setbacks in your jumping if you did can you tell me how you over come them xx

    • @anadin56
      @anadin56  10 лет назад +2

      Yes indeed! The early days were difficult at times. Pigeon was quite tense when I first got her and a bit full of herself after about a year in the field doing very little. Every time I rode I had to walk her around for 5-10 minutes so I could get on without her moving about too much. Then there was the first coat clip... I had a lesson that night and every time we went into canter she bolted with me, until my instructor said I had to be a bit rude in return and let her know this was not acceptable... I then got bucked off and was scared to canter her for months after. Just when she would start to settle and I'd get more confident she would build fitness and be quite bonkers again! Jumping was interesting in those early days. It would be walk to the fence, jump and back to walk on a loose rein (nothing exciting happening here). I still use the walk to the fence technique at times when she is too keen! A lot was just about me getting to know Pigeon and getting more confident and competent (I had been out of the saddle for 15 years and probably over-horsed myself a bit with Pige). A major breakthrough moment was when I was out hacking and just decided to let her go (having checked that I had brakes first)... until then I had just been going on walk hacks, but something just clicked that day and I decided life was for living (I did have my body protector on though). A few months later I was going xc for the first time... I was terrified in the warm up at Aston le Walls but we flew round clear and I just wanted to go again! With confidence I think it's best to build up slowly so as not to set yourself back again. I hope that has helped? Let me know if there is anything in particular you are struggling with - I'm sure someone can offer advice! :) xx

    • @anadin56
      @anadin56  10 лет назад +1

      LOL - maintaining the gallop is harder work than people often realise (especially when you go straight from show jumping onto cross country without much of a breather between). At this early event in the season our horses were certainly fitter than us! I think Maddy was quite shocked when she heard herself and promptly headed off to the gym. Thanks for watching! :)
