Don't forget to heal/replenish your squads by making them rest in the houses.
healing them can sometimes be a bad thing though, they won't be able to help with the other 3 squads and may let the house catch fire.
@@RonnieC6246 look at it like this, the squad you are healing has literally only the commander left, would it help alot? also if the house they are healing in catches on fire they move out if it while being partially replenished with most of the units back but not all of them, atleast from what i remember
@@bloxthebloxxer8234 your right about them being partially healed, but if they were the last commander left, with probably half of the waves to go through, would you really want to fight through it?
@@RonnieC6246 He means while there are other commanders on the battle field they can fight the enemy off while the guy heals

Archers have more range the more elevated they are, meaning that putting them on mountains just makes them safer with no downside
edit: thanks to all those who corrected me in the comments, I did not know having them higher reduced accuracy and knockback
A little bit, but I found that putting them on the beach is more effective, especially in late game.
The issue is, the more range is less useful against the shielders, as the arrows cause more knockback the closer they are. So placing the archers on shores can work really well for picking off units.
More range with less knockback and precision. Point blank shots almost always hit, and they can knock shields off of boats.
@@Ortorin yeah putting them on high ground trades accuracy and knock back for range, might be good to have them up high as the enemies approach and then bring them a little closer as the enemies land
There actually is a great downside to this. Archers on the ground can use knockback to kill shielded enemies by pushing them off of boats, but it really only is a viable option for the elite ones.
Also, if you’re ever feeling greedy, you can defend multiple islands in one turn by splitting your commanders into smaller groups
Yeah! Lets you take more islands each turn. I was able to defend an island with just a basic pike, no extra abilities or anything, since there was just one house at the top of a mountain, and the slope that leads up was a cliff over the ocean. Super easy since the only enemy was shields! Just sat the pikes at the top and they poked all the shields off the cliff.

I wouldn't say there's a triangle. Shields are really good against anything. Pikes prevent all movement towards a point, and archers are good at taking care of units on ships. The only unit that has a true counter are the dual wielders, as they're basically an assassin group.
@@thexp905 For dual wielders, place pikes behind shields. Once they jump on your shields, pull your shields back behind the pikes. Also a good tactic for axe throwers.
@@Ortorin ohhhh thanks, i was having a bit of trouble with axe throwers, do you have any tips for archer giants apart from stay behind cover? they really seem to decimate my squads if they catch me off guard
Nah having 50h in this game I have to disagree. There used to be said triangle before the big update big north got a long time as there used to be beserkers, elite infantry with shields and a lot of HP. They were replaced with those plundgers that kill all infantry but die to archers really quickly. The meta favored archers and shields since then imo since there is nothing that can't killed with archers and shields (even brutes just shoot them or kill em with an ability) Pikes were always my favourite unit an you can get a lot of value with em in the early game when there are no ranged units (archer, brut archers or axethrowers) on an island and it has a jokepoint path up a hill that they can defend against all melee units giving you some very easly earn gold :) pikecharge is nice but favours open maps so which are kinda bad for pikes anyways. I really love this game and all the fun tactics that come with it :)

When you click on a group that is almost dead, you can click on a house or the heal button on the bottom left to let them gain their units back

It's infuriating
Pike are amazing at holding positions and taking out even the strongest of groups, however, don’t move them during combat, as they can’t attack on the run. It is also advised that for EVERY unit, you do not place them directly where the boats land. This is because the boats cause units right in front of them to fall down and become a free kill. Because of this, place shield guys near and the moment they land, move them on the tile getting landed on for a fight with your advantage.

Tip: on the map, the larger the rectangles, the larger the houses. Houses give you money depending on how large it is, so going to big islands can get you tons of money.
yep, big house gives 3 gold, rectangle house gives 2 and small one gives 1. the church is a checkpoint (not sure how it works I never used it). houses that are on fire can't be used to replenish, but still give gold. But once they are completely destroyed (they turn black) they will no longer give coins.

If you haven't played into the breach before I think you'd love it, it's a strategy game but it's turn based rather than real time.
Into the breach is sooo good. Best way I've heard it described is like chess with better pieces

Aliens rock, you don’t need to meet the enemy. Make them come to you, for example with the ramp on that one house island just park the pikes on the top and you’re golden.
Oh man, I love this game. I have a few tips about it.
Tip one: Level choice: Some levels give an item, seen as the ? above the island. Others give units, seen as the banner. Some islands have lots of houses, and while these may give a lot of money, it's harder then a small island. Banner islands also only allow you to bring in 3 out of 4 troops, with the home troop being automatically selected. Make sure you bring in the right team! The storm, marked as the line behind you, makes it so you can't go to levels behind it. Plan ahead to get the most money, items, and units possible!
Tip two: Team management: Outside of combat, you can spend money to upgrade units. For the entire game, I would recommend one archer, two pikemen, and one infantry. Max out archers first, as they scale the highest with gold spent. Then upgrade infantry to tier 2 then pikemen to tier 2. After that, either spend the money on other units or upgrade infantry. Pikemen tier three is a bit overkill, but can come in handy. Having more then four units allows you to make sure you have the right team for the job. (Pikemen on maps with only a few routes, infantry on more open maps, and more then one archer is overkill.)
Tip three: Recovery: If you click on a unit, then the house icon with a + above it, you can select a house for them to wait in to recover lost units. It will take a while, normally about one wave, but the less lost units, the faster they recover. If there are less then 4 infantry units, recover them, as they are practically useless and could die to even archers. Pikemen and archers really shouldn't take casualties, and if you are worrying that you may need infantry, they only time you really need them are a few late game units that you haven't seen yet. (I wanna see your reaction against those guys) Archers can win an engagement while pikemen can stall, make sure to recover those when you dont need them.
There are a few things I kept out though, (mostly class counters, items on some classes, and commander traits) but you can learn these on your own. Good luck, and I would love to see more of this game!
Bonus tip! Read the tips on the loading screens! They actually give decent info for a starter, and can save your life!
As someone who has never seen this game before, I’m a bit confused by your recommended team. Why double infantry? Do enemies get a lot more archers later on? The pikemen seem way better so far. Tyler’s double archers also seem super great. The enemies they don’t kill have to spend time blocking, and the archer+melee groups of two seemed to be doing really well. Where will it struggle
@@mr.fluffypantz4150 Pikes are demolished by axe-throwers and dual-wielders. Pikes are super strong when played right, but they crumble in an instant if they are misplaced or face the wrong enemy. Shields are the main units that can handle almost any situation, pikes are the niche unit that must be played in very particular ways.
@@mr.fluffypantz4150 The main reason why infantry is so good is basically what ortorin covered. They are generalists that can cover every situation, at the cost of casualties. Pikes on the other hand, can deal with the most common enemies without losses. So in a nutshell, infantry for everything pikes cant handle, and pikes for everything else. Archers are mostly supporting infantry, so they lose less troops, but can be used as a backup plan to defend against other archers, although this can be dangerous.
Oh yes, and axes completely ruin everything besides infantry, and even then they need to recover after the fight. That's another reason for two infantry but once again, axes aren't that common.

There is a greedy strategy that you can take up to make it harder. If you spilt your squads up on the map you can fight one island with 2 squads and another with your remaining 2 squads. This all happens in one turn of the map moving so it gives you a chance to double the amount of coins you collect.
Additionally, all of the islands with the coloured flags give you a new squad, so if you do this you will definitely want to pick up as many squads as you can.
This was all probably done in one sitting though so you’ll have to try it next time when you continue this interesting series.

Tyler you can replace your dead units when you click on the unit and press the green one with the plus
Here is a tip. Every commander have 2 starting abilities. One makes there sqaud sit in a house for a fair amont of time, giving the sqaud all of their lost soldiers back, tho for the cost of them sitting in a defenceless house. The other ability can make one of your commanders flee from the battle in one of the attackers boats. When you flee, you leave the rewards from the houses and your other sqauds behind, tho you can advance to the next island.

Likes at the top of a ramp is where they excel because of the chokehold and individual units trying to attack. Also keep in mind archers are good on the high ground, and fantastic upgraded for long range fights. Hitting up more islands helps a lot because that’s how you afford upgrades, just stay ahead of the darkness that chases you

Shields seem to be untouchable by the arrows when, their on the boats, but in 15:52 you can see them get killed by archers thanks to them shooting from an angle.
Get top tier archers and the knockback trait to knock shield users into the water off their boats.

you can restore your squads once per level using the houses, press the unit and then the green button in the left and choose the house they will be healing in. if you choose the ship you can make them leave the island so they wouldn't die using one of the enemies ships (if you sure you cant win)

I wonder if you could counter the shields by splitting your archers. The shieldsman point their shields towards the archers to avoid getting hit, but seemingly can get shot by archers while fighting other infantry and pikesmen. If that's because they point their shields towards the ground units rather than the archers, you could position archers on two opposite sides to where they'll land, the only way to defend is to point their shield to two directions at once, which is physically impossible.

I’ve played this game through a bit and my preference is archers, then infantry, then pikes. Late game, pikes are almost worthless, as there are multiple units that can counter them.
Edit: elite archer squad with ring of command and heavy weapons commander can hold an island with no blood on the island, I have done this multiple times.

Archers start off weak but can become the most op unit if you level them up. Also If you get the heavy weapons trait make sure you turn that commander into archers as the archers can knock everything into the water.
