  • Mickey visits legendary combatives master Al Salvitti, creator of Colonel Blades, in Philiadelphia, Pennsylvania. At an early age Salvitti earned a black belt in TaeKwondo and fought for over 20 years. He routinely trains US Special Forces on edged weapons and originally created Colonel Blades to simplify / speed up the their training process.
    For these same reasons of simplicity and effectiveness, the Colonel Blade is ideally suited as a personal self defense knife. With little to no training ordinary people can wield this powerful tool. The colonel blade is also an ideal concealed carry weapon carried comfortably inside the waistband (IWB).
    In this video Al Salvitti demonstrates the basics for training how to use colonel blades. Al's son, Nico Salvitti also shares his experiences.

    I tried to order one of their folders from their website. The website
    said they were out of stock, but I could sign up to receive notification
    when they get some back in stock. The notification function didn't
    work, so I sent them a Facebook message asking them about it. After
    several days, they finally replied, but they didn't really answer my
    question. So, I commented on one of their posts, telling them I've been
    trying to get a straight answer from them for about a week. Instead of
    reaching out to me with anything that could be construed as customer
    service, they BLOCKED ME! Are you kidding me?! Now, I've made it my
    personal hobby to tell everyone I know online, and in person about the
    AT&T-like customer service I received from Colonel Blades. They
    WILL answer my question "When will your folders be back in stock?" one
    way or another.

      This knife is not sketchy at all...once I saw this thing I was sold. I bought it and honestly carry this more than I do any of my guns. It's very natural. It's just an extension of your hand. If you know how to throw a punch then you can use it. There's no fear of dropping it or having it taken away because your hand is wrapped around it. This is the first (and probably only) knive I've ever bought in my life for self defense.

    • @CarryTrainer

      First, I am not providing legal advice. This is my opinion. Period. Do the research yourself. I believe you are referring to the following
      "It is illegal to own any implement for the infliction of bodily injury, which serves no “common lawful purpose”
      A small fixed blade is not illegal.
      The key here is intent. Self defense is lawful. Criminal intent or action is not. Always look at intent and place that into the context of the situation

    I have 2 similar knives. I have the K-bar TDI and the MT 667 Mtec neck knife. The Mtec knife is almost the same knife but smaller and with a warinclif point. The buety of this knife is that no-one will take the blade from the holder of this knife. Also good price point. I was looking at another similar blade the CRKT tecpatl. The CRKT knife is closer to a T-push dagger. The CRKT blade is in the same ballpark as this knife. I can see myself buying your in the next 3 months. Thanks. This is like a TDI PLUS knife. I like the TDI but wish it had the front finger hole like the Mtec knife. This bridges both worlds. I always like wearing my Mtec neck knife. It's my favorite neck knife.

    A knife is a tool for cutting & puncturing specifically, and also for self defense, if need be. This knife is especially designed for stabbing. Combat use. Looks like a great self defense knife.

    • @CarryTrainer
      @CarryTrainer  6 лет назад +1

      The notion of an indefensible tool due to its lethality is a fallacy. A fallacy based on the idea that the victim waa perhaps not in true jeopardy. Any level of deadly force is a last resort to stop violence against an innocent. If that cannot be proved it doesn't matter if a #2 pencil or a samurai sword were the tool.

    I like it because of how intuitive it is from the get go. Not sure I'll get one as I'm not sure how I feel about using a knife for self defense. I like having just two levels of force escalation. Hand to hand and a fire arm. A knife just doesn't send the right messages and I feel you could easily be demonised should you use it regardless self defense.

    • @CarryTrainer
      @CarryTrainer  6 лет назад

      And when that gun goes empty, breaks, is taking away, or is unusable to use, such as innocent people in the line of fire? Then what? Do you ever enter a place that a knife is allowed but a gun is not? Options are life. Demonize away, I'm alive to present my case. The notion of force being demonized is often overused. If one is justified they had better be able to explain it.

    • @CarryTrainer
      @CarryTrainer  6 лет назад +1

      Many folks compare this to a karambit at a glance. It's nothing like one. A karambit is a hooked slashing tool. This can slash but its made for simple and effective striking. To be used by the lawful in defense of life

    • @inquisitor4635
      @inquisitor4635 6 лет назад +1

      A karambit is made for the slash or hook and is really supposed to be double-edge to get maximum effectiveness with the hand-to-hand techniques, but that is illegal to own or use in self-defense. I find a single-edged Karambit to be such a diminishment of its intended purpose in this regard.This knife is more for the thrust and stabbing which to me is what I would rely upon more so in a situation, particularly if someone is wearing multiple layers of clothing in cold weather. Slashing would be more difficult to penetrate on someone with a shirt, overshirt or sweater and a jacket. Karambits traditionally come from areas where it is hot and less clothing worn lends itself for the slash to be more effective. But this also means that I must be able to wield it while wearing gloves in colder climates.

    • @MichaelCook1981
      @MichaelCook1981 5 лет назад

      A karambit has a curved blade. The Colonel blade has a curved handle, they look similar at first glance. I personally don't care for the design or to carry it in the appendix carry. I prefer the Fox Karambit 479, I like to carry a knife in my pocket, the blade deploys when you pull it out. Yes karambit is technically a hook or slash tool, but you can also stab with it.

    Puck my big gass!! I just bought kabar tdi yesterday (at an exaggerated price like 8x) and now this tool mocking me in face. This is definitely better than kabar. The intelligent trigger hole kills all other push knive. Seems like its going to be legend expensive and unavailable soon.

    What happens when you need to slash. What about when your intent isn't to kill?

    • @CarryTrainer
      @CarryTrainer  5 лет назад +1

      Your intent should never be to kill. It should be to stop violence against you. Slash? That knife will slash through a steel trash can. I've a video up doing it. FYI. If you pull a blade, a gun, bat, club or fists there had better be some real danger in front of you. We dont deploy an edge weapon to scratch someone.

    karambit is the best fighting knife, hands down... Buuuut my EDC is a balisong for multiple reasons; it's intimidating, and I can use it as an impact or striking weapon instead of only having a knife. Also training with a balisong is a great way to kill time lol

    Why not a longer blade ?

    • @CarryTrainer
      @CarryTrainer  6 лет назад +1

      The question I'd ask back is why? You punch from sternum to spine with this.

    • @inquisitor4635
      @inquisitor4635 6 лет назад +1

      Four inches is a good length to do internal damage and still be comfortable to carry. And it would be interesting to feel if a longer six inch blade would feel to unwieldly at the wrist joint with lateral motion when plunging into flesh or making contact against a hard bone with this particular type of hand position on the knife handle.

    I believe in the design, but I'm not sure that I want to stab a 300lb + big dude with an under 3" blade. Wouldn't slashing be best? I know a friend of mine a big guy was stabbed like 6 times and he still beat the guy up that had the knife. Later he sad he didn't even realize he had been stabbed at all, until the fight was done and the knife guy was on the ground. I really like the design but with really small blade I'm not sure if just stabbing works. Anyone out there have any kind of data from researching?

  • @geraldwest3428
    @geraldwest3428 6 лет назад

    It also appears the knife has 'general purpose' capabilities that could be expanded upon? Especially when you consider we're not spending our lives stabbing/slashing folks. Thanks, and thumbs up!

    • @CarryTrainer

      I am not a proponent of using a tool like this for opening letters and trimming string. Like my sidearm it stays securely in it's sheath/holster, to be used for a dire situation. I carry a small folder for utility work

    So, I have been carrying a Ka-Bar TDI folder for the better part of the last 5 years. The TDI allows the same type grip and punching style use of the knife.
    Definitely a better way of fighting with a knife.

      Whether it's stolen or not - and ill take your word for it that he's a thief, too - it's weird to offer up a catch phrase for a product, unprovoked and without compensation. You don't think that's weird? If I took a sip of coffee and turned to you and said "the best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup!", you'd think that was totally normal?

    I got one and was into my 22nd training minute. Put my knife down and got some green tea to center my chi. Unknowingly sat on the motherfuckin Colonel blade and had to ride lying on my stomach in the ambulance to get it removed from my ass. I can vouch for this knives power.

    I was waiting for slashing moves, especially useful in knife against knife fights. Defange the snake cuts to the wrist, elbow tendons, and slashes to femoral artery, across the abdomen. Stabbing is good but I would like to see how the knife is used slashing to protect yourself from stabbing motions.

    I was considering it till I saw the price. There's nothing special about the design IMO, and the materials appear basic. The steel (aus 8) is a budget/ foreign steel which leads me to believe its manufacturing is done overseas, especially since I did not see anything that stated made in the USA. I think they could do better on the price.....

    • @bly4233
      @bly4233 6 лет назад
