    Korean air is actually cheaper to southeast Asia than JAL at 60k points vs 65k but you have to book round trip and JAL seems to have more availability. Also Alaska now allows redemption on Singapore bit at a pretty high rate.

    Very good video on Alaska program. I have used Cathay and Japan airlines and using the stop over. Some of the best redemptions there are. Best way to get Alaska miles long term in the US is the Amex Marriott Business card. 4x Bonvoy on eating out, Gas and cell Phone bill. Wish Bonvoy CC had a grocery category on one of their credit cards.

Like which airlines points to use to europe, which ones to use for middle east etc. etc. all in premium cabins? Like doing the top airline to redeem with for each zone. Thanks.

    • @PrinceofTravel

      Cathay Pacific often displays more award space to members of their own program, so it's not always the most reliable indicator of the space that you can book with partners.

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  4 года назад +1

      With the Alaska card, the miles go into your Alaska account every month, so when you cancel the card you still keep the miles. If it's a transferrable currency like Amex points, then you gotta make sure to transfer out your points or merge them with another card before you cancel, or else you lose them.

    Hey Ricky, what about the companion pass that I see on their website, is that good for any flight?

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  4 года назад +1

      That's only good for Alaska-operated flights, so it depends on if you live somewhere that's served by Alaska and/or fly with them often. I myself have redeemed hundreds of thousands of Alaska miles but have never actually flown with them!

  • @jessedavila5993
    @jessedavila5993 3 года назад

    Are the miles actually worth mile to mile? As in 20,000 mile points convert to actually being able to use them and travel actually 20,000 miles?

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  3 года назад

      No, you earn 20,000 miles when you fly 20,000 miles, but then you redeem them based on the rules and charts of the program.

  • @SZafar-rq2uf
    @SZafar-rq2uf 4 года назад

    Just a question, why can't we search for award space on cathay straight from the specific airline itself. I've seen this often, where another site is used to search for award space. Why is it so and how do you know which other airline site to use? Is it usually any partner airline?

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  4 года назад

      Alaska hasn't integrated Cathay flights into its search engine, and that's basically the way it is. I usually use the British Airways website to search for Cathay Pacific flights.

    Hey great video, I just opened a Alaska credit card a few weeks ago and had a question about earning the bonus points.
    I was raised to pay off the credit card before the statement balance period, however I wanted to ask if that will affect my points earning if I pay off the statement before the new statement period?? Or should I wait for for the balance to roll over into the next period and THEN pay it of?? Any help is appreciated

    • @PrinceofTravel

      Hold for three months, switch to a no-fee card, reapply for a new card now that you're no longer holding the card, then move credit from your existing no-fee card if you happen to be declined.

    • @patrickchen4390
      @patrickchen4390 4 года назад +2

      Ricky has an article about this. I have not tried it myself, but apparently if you open a new GCR account using a different email address to apply for the card again, you should get the rebate one more time. If you want a higher chance of getting the rebate every time you re-apply, you simply have to open a new GCR account.

      @@runnershikers6806 , congratulations! If you get approved by applying through GCR website and if this is your first time applying for the card, you definitely will get the rebate. How you get the rebate depends on your GCR account setting (e.g. in gift card, via paypal or a cheque). You need to look into your GCR account setting to decide how you want to receive the rebate.

      Yes. Always keep it in the background. Alaska lets you to apply for their cards very frequently. However, if you are turned down by MBNA for adding to much credit limit in a short time(ie applying for a bunch of cards because you want the bonus points) you can call them and ask them to split the credit limit on your no-charge-card and apply the rest to the new card. They use TD office for their in Canada credit applications. Their application process can be very difficult. They originally asked me for two years of tax returns!! My application was approved only when they saw I already had a BestWestern mbna card and I agreed to a lower credit limit on my new card. I make $150/yr and my credit score is over 800!!

    Hey Ricky, your example of Vancouver - HK - South Africa, are we able to do that flight and stopover in First Class? You mentioned First Class was 70,000 points 1 way but said 'Business Class' when you quoted your example itinerary. That seems like an awesome itinerary if possible on First Class. 140,000 Asia Miles seems more worthwhile than 215,000 Aeroplan miles when transferring from AMEX.

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  4 года назад +1

      Yes - for 70k points, it'll be Vancouver-Hong Kong in First Class followed by Hong Kong-South Africa in business class, because Cathay doesn't operate First Class to South Africa.
