    I put a set of AMP BOARDS on my 2012 GMC and they worked great. I heard a rattle on my way to Virginia from Texas last week and found my driver side pin/bushing wore out. I cleaned and lubed them regular but using the driver side the most wore them out. I dont see that the bushings are replaceable so ill have to bore the wore out bracket and fabricate a bushing. Lucky I have a machine shop and some oil impregnated brass to rebuild the part. 11 years and 170K miles aint bad.

      Where do u put the jack after installing these? If someone accidentally places the lift under these steps, and lifts the vehicles up for service will it hold the body weight and still function normally?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  Месяц назад

      @@anan7s294 The jack should only be put on the frame. If you lift from the boards they will not hold the weight and will damage them and the truck. If someone attempts to lift from the board and not the frame they should not be allowed to work on any vehicle ever again.

    For the dark grey connector and light green connector, do you recommend unplugging those from the panel before tapping into them? I assume the general wire routing from the battery / control module down to the motors is similar for the diesel 2500?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  8 месяцев назад +1

      You can disconnect the plugs if needed. I would recommend that you disconnect the negative on the battery or batteries if its a diesel.
      As for the wire routing they do a pretty good job showing you in the instructions and if you fallow them you won't run into any length issues.
      Everything is done the same whether is it is a gas or diesel. In my video I was working on a diesel.

    Great video. I have a question. In the installation guide on amps website it does not show needing to splice the two wires into the trucks wiring harness (dark grey / light green). It only shows the OBD II connector. I have a 2021 Silverado 2500HD LTZ. Thanks

      I believe the 2021 is strictly the OBD2 where as the 2024 needed the extra 2 wires running to the BCM due to something changing between the years. The reason I don't exactly know, my guess is it is grabbing signal for one set of doors at the OBD2 and the other set at the BCM. This is a guess....

      Did you just cut those wires and splice with OBD wires? Or did you cut them and have to splice in the original wire in addition to the obd wire?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  2 месяца назад

      @@jeremyjones214 There is no cutting of any factory wires. The only wires you might trim up are the purple ones that run from the step's wiring harness to the obd2 plug that comes with the amp boards. You can see these purple wires at 8:14 in the video. As for the BCM they supply wire taps that you can see at 7:54 in the video.

    Very nice job detailed and easy to follow. ? 4 U. I have a 2024 Chevy 3500; My OBD2 connector only has two wires coming out of it; one wire is all purple and the other one is purple with black stripe and I have those connected. Did the one you installed have the blue and white coming out or did you add those two wires to the OBD2? The steps do not currently work as the steps must need those two tapped wires with the blue and white wires to trigger the steps. Thoughts? Thanks!

    I'm going to do my install on these tomorrow. I notice you didn't drill through the pinch weld for the LED lights. Any specific reason? I'd prefer not to drill holes in my brand new truck, so if there's a way to safely run the LED wiring over the pinch weld, can you comment on any prep you do to avoid the sharp edges that could damage the wire insulation?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  7 месяцев назад +2

      I don't like to drill for the lights. I think it's unnecessary, gives it a place to rust and I have never had an issue with it going around the pinch weld like I did in the install. Just make sure that you clean the area you are going to stick the lights very well and firmly press them on. secure the wires so they are tight an you will be good. Been installing amp steps like this for a long time and never had them rubbing though the insulation.
      One thing to keep in mind is you will want to lube the joints on the steps every 6 months with WD40 or equivalent after getting them nice and clean. To keep them down just open a door, stand on them, then close the door while still on them. This will not hurt them. Lack of proper maintenance is the #1 issue I see with amp steps. Causes the motor to fail prematurely.
      I you have any questions on install comment on here and I will get back to you ASAP or Shoot me an email. It's under the links on our main RUclips page. Hope the install goes smoothly.

    Question for you! 2023 suburban is very similar, with the 2024 suburban I just got while swapping from the 2023 the connector colors changed in the kick panel but, the same wires are still there. I’ve got everything all set up but they will not deploy. My worry is they changed colors of the wires I need to tap into and so far I can’t find any answers. Waiting to hear back from amp. Any suggestions on how to find out which wires I need if they changed colors?

    I have a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500. I assume these installs are similar. When I finished and put in the fuse the boards retracted fully, but they never deployed when I opened the doors. The obd 2 plug that they sent only had the 2 purple wires. It did not have the other 2 wires like yours. I wonder if this is why they're not working. Can't get tech support until Monday. Super frustrating. Ive been trying to narrow this down all day. I know theyre installed correctly, but they don't work. Thanks

  • @travispullins1613
    @travispullins1613 3 дня назад

    When my steps deploy I can hear the gears in the motors. Is this normal on the PowerStep XL? I have installed 2 sets before this (basic model steps) and they were super smooth. Sound is on both sides so I assume it's normal.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  2 дня назад

      With the amp step XL tend to be slightly louder when it come to the motor because of the linkages being mounted to the rocker bar instead of the rocker its self. This in turn allows for more sound to reverberate due to that bar. With that being said it shouldn't be a crazy amount louder.

    What do you do when it says check engine light on that system 2024 with the system France steps because on my truck it shows check engine light after they did time steps what the blue wire connected to the green or gray wire check engine how do I reset the

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  7 месяцев назад

      I would take it some where to see if the check engine is related to the steps. There is a good possibility it is because of the steps being wired into the BCM. I would go back if you had them installed at a business and have them look at it because it is their risibility to make sure the install is done correctly. If they are not willing to do that I would never go back... As for the wires I would hook them up exactly how I have them in the video if it is a Chevy 2500/3500. If you need more help comment again and I will do my best to help you. Once the issue is sorted a code reader is needed to reset the check engine light.

      Sorry to get back to you so late. Whats the YMM of your truck? Also what trim level is it? Sometime this can make a difference.
      I would start by testing the purple and the purple/black wire and see if you are getting a signal though them both. I have seen where you get good signal from one and no the other. Sometimes those barrel connectors and be finicky. Next I would check make sure the brain has good connection. Pull the fuse and disconnect the brain and plug it back in.
      That is where I would start typically it's right and left not front and back.

      One of the wires to the BCM is hooked up to the wrong wire. I would start there and double check everything is hooked up properly and to the correct wires. If it is hooked up properly then use a multimeter to make sure you are getting a signal form the wires. I know those barrel connectors can cause issues if the are overtightened.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  Месяц назад

      If you go disconnecting plugs from the BCM you will want to disconnect your battery. I believe there is a little tab that you will push towards the wire and you will pull the plug out. There might be a safety tab that needs to be pulled down to allow that tab to depress.

    • @LarryStetz
      @LarryStetz Месяц назад

      It was so easy to wire with the connectors removed. Just pull the small tab out and squeeze the connector and it will come right out. I removed the negative battery terminal and no codes were thrown. Thank you for your video.
