It does not even notice it. 28-30 mpg yes. Torque Vectoring awd yes. All the available tech yes. Overall safest truck on the market yes. Only thing I miss out is the buch looks it's mellow. But putting a levelling kit and some 31 inch tires and light wheels drastically changes to look. Only issue with this vehicle is VCM that must be disabled for long term reliability of this powertrain. Other than that maintenance is cheap and easy. Parts are cheap and easy to replace.

The Ridgeline makes a lot of sense on so many levels, unfortunately most people don’t possess the basic intelligence to recognize this. You make a lot of good points and like you I’ve owned both a Silverado as well as an F-150. I’ll probably go with a Ridgeline next time around because it’s such a well thought out vehicle....

People talk about how high prices are for trucks these days, but in 1983, a co-worker bought a Nissan small truck (with bonus cab) and it stickered at $14,500. which would be equivalent to almost $38,000 today. For trucks that are dimensionally and functionally the same size as 1/2 tons from the late 90s. When you frame it there, and account for inflation, it makes more sense. These don't compare to s10s and old school rangers. A 2021 Canyon/Colorado is within 200lbs of curb weight of my dad's 2000 F150 and tow just under the same as it did. Reality is that if you could live with a 1/2 ton from 2000, then current midsizers are really all you need today.

King Zak That doesn’t make sense. Yours is just a butthurt comment. I don’t personally car for any of the current offerings. They’re all far to computered up and cost far too much. My truck is a workhorse that, while it won’t smoke no Camaros or Mustangs, it’s still alright for an older truck that has never had any issues.
Compare that to these trucks now that have pretty much all had recalls.
I don’t want a truck because it’s fast or can run quick 0-60s, I need a truck that I can always count on to crank, pull, and push.
Reliability and utility is far more important than being quick or car-like, but that fact often falls on deaf ears to people that use trucks a status symbols and commuting tools rather than actual work.

Ok after owning a 2016 Colorado Ext Cab Z71,4x4, V6 for three years 9 months and 68,000 trouble free miles, more than half of them mind you towing our 22’ 5,000 lbs Travel Trailer all over the East Coast from our last home in Massachusetts as far North as Bar Harbor ME an South as Key West FL an West to Corpus Christi TX and many points in between, especially on a 4 month trip while our new home was being built in Central Florida, plus the moving of the biggest rental trailer I could find to move all our stuff at a CGVW of 11,600 lbs! That’s just 400 lbs under the MCGVWR! All while average commuting mileage was 18 city 26 highway, with a low towing that heavy trailer of 10 mph and an absolute high of 32.2 mpg down on The Overseas Highway In The Florida Keys, at 2am at a steady 45 mph with very little traffic at the speed limit with cruise control on a 45 mile stretch, I had filled up just before and could not believe the computer telling me 33 mpg? So I stopped at the next open gas/convenience store ad could only add 2.2 gals in 45 miles!! So with all that written, when the time came to buy new, a Crew Cab this time, we went out an drove every Mid Sized and Full Sized Pickups over a one month period. The order I would rate is exactly the opposite of yours! Especially considering the price of what I ended up with! A 2019 Colorado Crew Cab W/T,4x4, V6 that has every option a W/T can get, with Trailer Brake Control and Auto Locking Rear Differential plus including the 7” MyChevy Touch Screen with OnStar 4 G LTE WIFI! Plus got the dealer to throw in/on a complete set of the Boron Skid Plates they install on the ZR2 that makes them an AEV Bison! With an 84 month 100,000 miles Bumper to Bumper Warranty, All for the out the door price of under 32k! Now with another 5 k I’ll be able to add a nice 2.5” Coil-Over lift/leveling kit with rear Air Bags to be able to tow level, plus add some class with Katskinz Custom Leather Seat Covers!

With every updated generation of trucks it seems like a plain old regular cab, long bed TRUCK is becoming less and less common, our company found a '14 Ram specd as such and my jaw hit the floor. The Ridgeline is fine for the suburban crowd and the Gladiator is fine for the off road crowd, but I am truly disappointed in Ford and GM for leaving the working man hanging in the midsize segment, and expecting us to spend our dollars on the inflated (price and size) full size trucks

    • @Lrules364

303 Nitzubishi even the used full sized market is insane right now. If you want a full size truck, your only option right now is to go out west, or down south, and find one thats 2007 and older. I have no idea whatsoever as to what is driving the prices of trucks up, especially "new GMs" garbage.

    • @b.strong9347
      @b.strong9347 5 лет назад +2

LRulesTheWorld because they’re suburban status symbols now. The massive amount of brand new, full-size truck that I see in Savannah is astounding. People that will never do anything other than tow a ski boat a couple times a year that are buying the highcountries, longhorns, and platinums by the boatload are the reason prices are soaring. It forces the working man to resort to used vehicles more often (the fact that the older ones are commonly more reliable so contributes) which has driven up demand... thus the price across the board.
Go to any suburb and just count how many full size trucks you see that will probably never come close to their limits until they’re sold a couple more times to us poorer shmucks out there.
I also personally like the way a truck traditionally drives, but all of these reviewers (that seem to drive popular opinion and thus the market) want a more car-like ride... but these same reviewers also often want to feel every groove and pothole in the road. There’s something nice about the isolating ride of an older vehicle.

    • @b.strong9347
      @b.strong9347 5 лет назад +3

John Q. Seeing that a status symbol is generally regarded as a possession that is taken to indicate a person's wealth or high social or professional status, what else could these new trucks be considered if they’re not used for work?
“I like it” and “I want it” don’t really float because that’s exactly the people I am talking about that are driving the prices of these rigs through the roof.
If trucks we’re still treated and thought of as the utilitarian vehicles they once were (and still to a large proportion of (especially rural) society), they would be much more affordable.
It’s crazy that trucks are now expected be luxury vehicles across the board... and that we compare how they ride to cars.
Not to say that everyone that buys a loaded out rig doesn’t use it for its intended purpose because I realize that there are many people that make good money with those trucks that haul long distances or heavy loads, but they are not the common buyer if the suburbs across Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Alabama are any indication.
There’s no longer an option for a low-optioned 4x4 v8 that doesn’t crest $30k, and there are no cheap small truck offerings that get decent mileage.
With no options, a new F150 with only a v8 and 4x4 reg. cab is over $35k. Optioned the same way, the Chevy 1500 is $34k after cash back. The Ram 1500 is just under $34k. The Tundra is $37k. The Titan - $35. Add at least $10k for the lowest optioned diesel HD.
For the economy of the “small” trucks, the Frontier barely gets mid-20 mpg hwy. The Ranger claims 26 mpg, which really isn’t terrible, but the bed is considered too narrow. The Colorado also claims 26 mpg hwy but seems to have also gained a not so reliable reputation. The Tacoma, which is just generally considered the best choice of the smaller category, only tops out at 23 mpg hwy since they appear to have cut their 4 cylinder option.
But there is no longer a market for the small efficient trucks anymore because the segment of the population that bought them has moved to either SUVs, full-size trucks, or the grave... because, let’s face it, old folks didn’t mind a small putt-around truck because they only wanted it for the limited utility for their suburban homes.
Now, I drive downtown Savannah and Birmingham and see office parking lots loaded with high-trim, full-size trucks that are driven by people that don’t need them. They’re free to purchase whatever they like, but that doesn’t make it any less their fault that prices have been driven through the the roof. Combine all of that with politics playing a role in diesel trucks being required to have all of the extra emissions to the point that many folks that actually know something about the mechanics and the reliability that also use their heavy duty trucks as trucks do not want the new ones because they are not as reliable as the pre-def trucks. Go online. 10-yr-old, 100k mike trucks still have high price tags because the demand is so high. Ive known several people (in farming and trucking communities) that have had several trucks slip through their fingers because many dealers can not keep good used trucks on their lots.
So, at this point and coming from a blue-collar, rural perspective, I don’t see how someone that has no need for a full-size truck that purchases a high-dollar full-size truck isn’t doing it for anything more than a status symbol.

Motorweek, car and driver, and and these other car review sources have got to stop reviewing trucks. They care more about ride, handling and options then actual truck things. You know like, hauling, towing, off road, stump pulling, etc. The Ridgeline in a freaking accord platform. It's a car that looks like truck. They put some taller struts into it and call it a truck? Take a look at the rear driveshaft it's about 1in diameter backed by a tiny diff. Go tow your boat, your work trailer, or anything with that everyday. It will fail. As said these are for people that want to say they have a "truck" yet don't need one. They are front drive bias which is terrible for towing. It uses a McPherson strut design that only uses a lower control arm making for substantially decreased suspension reliability. Awd with Tourque vectoring is awesome but it uses viscous couplings to distributed power. Again terrible for long term or long distance towing.
Bottom line it's a tall car 1st and "truck" (loosely use that term here) 2nd. Great for the banker that wants their significant other to think they are macho but really want nothing to do with mud slinging, hauling, towing, or even getting dirty.

I realize this was a test of the top trims. But Honda has an advantage in the lower trims. You can get a Ridgeline Sport AWD around $34,000. The only things you lose are things I don't give a rip about. You lose leather seats, sunroof, fancy stereo, bed speakers, in bed outlet, and a bunch of driver aid tech. But you get to keep push button start, AWD, crew cab, etc. To get push button start on a Ranger you HAVE to buy the Lariat. It's not even offered on the GM twins. The Gladiator is an outlier here since it's more offroad focused. The review also didn't show the read seats folded up. The Ridgeline wins here too as it's the only one with a nearly flat load floor.
I need a truck to haul a motorcycle in the back and the occasional run to home depot for mulch and such. Maybe hauling a piece of furniture and such. I don't need to tow a trailer. And at 6'5" 250lbs...I need interior room...which the Jeep doesn't have, the Ranger is a little tight too. The GM trucks are okay...but the Tacoma is a joke...my head hits the roof. The Ridgeline is like a comfortable slipper...it just fits me.
I'm about a year out from buying, so I hope Nissan releases the new Frontier so I can take a look at it. In its current form it's way too small.

Now if you wanted a working truck go grab a Tacoma or frontier. End of story. The Jeep more luxurious than the discontinued Toyota FJ. Doesn’t make sense. There’s nothing wrong with buying something you want with extra stuff in it especially if you’re willing to pay that much. But still smart people don’t off-road their 40 to 60 thousand dollar trucks.

Car reviewers always prefer a car like pickup. It appears, as far as Honda goes...... the vast majority of buyers don’t. As far as prices go....... they’ll come down if people quite buying. The big issue for manufacturers is how to turn a profit in an industry where lawsuits abound, unions demand an increasing larger piece of the pie and customers demand more and more options. My first loaded F-150 in 1983 sticker price was $15800. I paid $11,989. It had every option available that year except for an automatic transmission. Today the equivalent F-150, trying to compare apples to apples is almost not possible. The closest equivalent would be an XL with no upgrades at all! Even then, the no upgrades truck is far nicer than the loaded XL I had in 1983. The sticker price would be $26,690 and I could actually buy the truck for about $23,000 right now! Considering inflation and all the upgrades safety features, better frame, better body, better motor, transmission, better everything..... Well Ford has kept the prices way down compared to inflation for and “apples to apples” vehicle. But everyone wants “top of the line bragging rights”. So they buy an Crew cab, 4x4, with a 10-speed transmission, every conceivable amenity and see a sticker price of at least $60,000. Well, if we go back to the equivalent f-150 in 1983.... you can’t get that luxury. So we have to look for luxury of that time. The closest comparison would be a Cadillac or Lincoln luxury car. Loaded, those cars could hit $30,000 back then! Even so, those cars don’t even come close to the luxury of a loaded pickup today! So again, if we adjust for inflation and the most luxurious vehicles of 1983...... The manufacturers have done a darn good job keeping prices down considering all the government mandated emissions, safety and all the unions pensions, medical and the yearly onslaught of lawsuits that in 1983 occurred far far less often.

heres the deal...if your rating trucks which are made for hauling whatever you have in mind ..therefore the more you can get out of it has to be the most important issue...id say the list is upside down..you want total luxury for passengers buy an suv or a car...maybe a pickup but you cant make comfort the top issue..utility ..in that case the ridgeline falls short in nearly every category...although cool and good at what it is its not up to the competition...

So as long as we don't compare it to the Frontier, Tacoma, or the Colorado, the unibody FWD Honda car with a pickup box is the winner... 👎👎

unless you are really doing a lot of off roading and towing more than 5000lbs the Ridgeline is the better everyday truck..

Gladiator had the "least payload by far" simply because they tested the trim with the least payload in the lineup. The Max Tow package adds nearly 40% more payload than the one they tested. It also has the largest brakes, strongest frame, best transmission, highest gasoline towing rating, most modern interior, and best 4x4 system offered in the entire segment. Lastly, which other truck here can go topless and doorless? Objectively, the Gladiator is the clear winner. The Ridgeline is a spoon. The Gladiator is a Swiss Army knife.

I just wish Honda made the Ridgeline look more like a pickup truck not a CRV with a fucking Pickup Bed😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The ridgeline is a pilot with a truck bed, which is why I like it.
