    I have the Meteor 65 and Mobula 6 19K and 25K models and flew them all a lot and recommend the Mobula 6. It cost $25 less and comes with 3 more batteries, is 3 grams lighter 20g vs 23g (15%), longer range when I tested them outside 260 meters vs 215 meters, The Mobula 6 holds up better, two of the hoops and canopy broke on the Meteor and nothing has broke yet on the Mobula 6. The thrust for the Meteor 65 and Mobula 6 25K are about the same at 95g the better connector on the Meteor equal the power of 25K motors of the Mobula. The 19K model of the Mobula 6 had 74 grams of thrust. The speed of the Mobula 6 is faster and you can get a lot higher camera angle on the Mobula 6 for longer courses. I would rate the cameras the same. The Mobula 6 is a better camera but it does give jello every so often. If you are only flying on a small inside course the 19K models is the way to go with longer flight times. If you want to push it hard outside the Mobula 6 25K is amazing it flies like a 5" lol. The problem with the Mobula 6 is they are sold out everywhere.

    Hey - you should try the 48 kHz filter on the escs from Joe Lucid. It increased my flight time on 19kv mobula6 from 4:15 to 5:30 (down to 3.0 V, resting Voltage went to 3.4). I think this mod significantly helps the higher kV motors (like meteor65 with 22k or mobula6 25k). The mobula6 25k started at about 2:00 of flight time and people now get 4 minutes with the 48 kHz update. Just some points, I think you also did a video on the entire rpm filtering thing but just the 48 kHz mod is huge for these high rpm tiny whoops.

As someone who has designed a lot of hardware and written a lot of code over the years for both pay and open source products, I have absolutely nothing to show for the open source contributions. Not even attribution most of the time. As long as the price is commensurate with the added value of the work and if it isn’t worth what he charges then no one will buy it and no one is hurt.

    I'm glad you posted this. Mobula 6 is a wonderful Whoop. Camera is also amazing for what it is. IMO It's the the best 1s Whoop to date. Also you should consider amending this video or do a tutorial on upgraded the ESC FW. JL recently introduced an ESC 48khz FW and It probably has a more significant performance gain that that of BT 2.0 and its just a Software Upgrade easy peazy. I increased my flight times by at least 30% with the 25kv version. Not to mention upgrading to BF 4.1.x also made a significant improvement in the way it flies.

    Tip: take 4 soft foam ear plugs, cut the tips off about 1/4 inch, lightly hot glue them under the motors. Now you are not slamming your battery on the ground. The foam is very light weight too. I haven't noticed any real difference in flight time.

I bought all my favourite bands, limited edition vinyls, from my youth again. Nirvana unplugged, Pearl Jam’s Ten, Mad Season etc. It would not be the same having those on a server or CD. For me it is more an emotional and yes nostalgic thing. But flying FPV brushed cause you feel nostalgic? Not the same thing. Hi Joshua, queston from a non quad flyer (I fly fixed wing and helicopters). But kids today all seem to want to fly quads. Well I have two nephews who I'm introducing to the hobby. And I'll admit that I think helping a 8 year old to fly a quad that he loves is probably easier than teaching him to fly a fixed wing...that is more fragile and he doesn't really care about. Here's my problem. I know very little about these Tiny Whoops, and or will fly with my (dare I say it DSMX) transmitters. I need something that will have a simple charging plug and that will be fairly robust. Thanks for another great video.

    So I have both the meteor and mobula6 and I can say hands down winner has been the mobula.
    You can use Jesc firmware and have RPM filter that smooths the flight out significantly. If you choose the 48kHz PWM version you get even more flight time. I did swap out the PH2 for BT2 but even on the crappy betafpv 300mAh 1s cells I am getting 4min 50s flight on 19000kv - I also tried the betafpv 22000kv and 17500kv motors from betafpv and the 19000kv are the sweet spot. I have put my mobula in the new betafpv frame for the meteor and I have put the same runcam nano3 in my meteor. Now I have a meaty-mob and a mobu-meat.

    I originally thought that the ph2.0 wears out like others until someone recommended that I clean the pins with deoxit gold contact cleaner and now my ph2.0 is back to normal. I went from 1:30 on the lipos back to 3 minutes. And I’ve tested this on 12 1s nitro nectars and all of them gained this kind of results. Side note, I also cleaned the inside connections of the lipo by lubricating 1 pin at a time and inserting it in the lipo, CAREFULLY.

    I want somebody to do a thrust test on one of these tiny brushless motors on day one that you buy it and then after 10 hours of use ("typical" brushed lifespan). I know brushless tiny motors "last longer", but in my flying and talking to others, I suspect the performance degrades on these tiny motors more than their bigger cousins.
    So, yes, don't count brushed out. I would say most of us that fly whoops a lot still prefer the feel of a brushed Whoop over brushless, and that magic sauce just hasn't been found...yet. Believe me, I'm still trying. ;)
    AND, now that EMUFLIGHT has added a new motor mixer for brushed that borrows from Silverware, we are getting AT LEAS 30% more power to brushed motors. Couple that with the NBD BBLITE Pro with turtle mode that flips itself (no stick input needed, just flip switch) and some super fast and long lasting Plaid motors...man, it's a great time to be a Whoop flyer. :P
    Best Feel - NBD BBLITE PRO ON EMUFLIGHT .2.1.5 and above (followed closely by any under 20g Silverware brushed)
    Most features - NBD BBLITE PRO - LEDS, Motor Braking, VTX built in, RX built in, Turtle Mode and u.fl
    Best BNF - So far, the Mob6. I disagree with Joshua on BFPV quality on the Meteor even tho HM track record is just as bad)
    Best motor for racing - 802 19k
    Best Whoop Firmware - Emuflight 0.2.15 and above (SOOO many whoop features added that BF doesn't even have)
    The (potential) Future - Lightweight 65mm 2s with low kv (12,000kv 802 or 14,000kv 603). About the same weight (23g) without battery, but MUCH better power band and 5+ minutes flight time on dual 300's.

      I’ve seen very little difference on my US/UK 65 brushless. The only difference you usually find is the batteries degrading. I hit 10 hours in like a week (when I run about 30 batteries, as soon as they are done I shove them in the charger for a second use that day). Even with that many batteries they are showing massive performance degradation after a while, but the quad flies excellent when I put my better and newer batteries performing just like it did out of the box.
      The only real possible degradation is bearing wear, and obviously you need to oil the bearings just like every other machine that’s existed on earth with conventional bearings (minus magnetic levitation and air bearings etc). I mean you’ll hear it though, they will sound aweful after a while but it’s just the bearings go out eventually (I’ve had 2206 motors last WAY less time than I’ve put on my whoop when the big ones started screaming mercilessly while flying). Crashes are particularly bad but thankfully the whoops just bounce off of stuff and have bumper guards so they don’t really see much trauma even then. The other big performance degradation are my props are a bit worn and dinged up covered green with grass stains because I fly inches off the ground, and my frame is so banged up there isn’t enough super glue to hold it together so I need to get another frame or 3d print one out.
      It’s basically only bearing wear, and that’s cheap and easy to replace, it just depends on the quality of the bearings and how well or absolutely no maintenance like seemingly most people do or don’t do is what determines how long they last. I suspect less than 1% thrust reduction after 10 hours of flying (it depends more how much bits of gravel and grass are stuck in the motor, I disassemble mine every couple weeks or as needed if I’m flying a lot. If it’s just indoors I’d say drop of oil on all 4 (top and bottom) every 5 hours and work it in and remove and submerge in a shot glass of cleaner and then oil and let in soak in for 10 minutes and reassemble every 10 hours of flight, and that will keep the bearings lasting quite a while (maybe 40-50 hours? Could be 100, I’m not sure how many hours mine has on it, I’ve usually switched primary quads by then because by then something way better is out and I keep the other as a backup or loaner quad for anyone that wants to try out flying).

    Still flying an Eachine US65 from nearly 1.5 years back. Just add Mockingbird setup and 802 motors. About 21g too. Not enough reason to upgrade to this year's two new hypetrain whoops.
    BTW, 2g out of ~22g dry is 10%. Which is like 35g out of ~350g dry 5" (not 50-60g of AUW).

    • @jakegarrett8109
      @jakegarrett8109 4 года назад

      He probably meant for a 500-600 gram acro quad with his go-pro mounted, not a bare twig style with 1000 to 1300 4s pack. I think my first 5 inch quad was like 600 grams, and that wasn’t a very powerful one but its super old, lol, 350 grams is a bit unreasonable, like my GTR 349 (3 inch) with a 850mAh 4s is definitely borderline 250 grams... it’s not hard to see why a 5 inch would be twice that if it has around twice the battery and an action cam.

    • @TweakRacer
      @TweakRacer 4 года назад +1

      Jake Garrett
      Dry weights mean without battery. That’s why he said 2g is 10% of the 21g Mobula6 or 23g Meteor65, both dry weights. Otherwise, if including lipo then 2g is only 6% of their AUW (all up weight, which includes the ~7g lipo).
      350g dry weight is about right for 5” freestyle quads. (5” Racing quads are about 270g dry.) He said 55-60g indicating 550-600g. Even with a Session in a mount, maybe 450-500g? Also, that’s a big assumption that everyone or most people fly quads with GoPro’s. All that added weight makes them fly a lot worse.

    • @jakegarrett8109
      @jakegarrett8109 4 года назад +1

      TweakRacer mmm, I may have misunderstood him, I thought he was mixing measurements incorrectly to start with (mixing empty and full load) as I wouldn’t go by the useless empty weight (unless it was specific and relevant like an airplane gliding distance out of fuel). If he was referring to empty payload on both then yeah 500+ grams would be insane!
      I’ve got a few early Diatone 5 inch frames (a few as in 50+ frames) that are well above 200 grams each, some nearing 300g by themselves, lol! Their super light bragging worthy one was a chopped out carbon frame with barely any material strength even just sitting there but it weighs like 85 grams and that was actually a big deal back then, like a filed down toothpick frame for today, haha! Those are the only possible quads I could see hitting that weight and thats probably with some 1 kW motors bolted to them or just using 4 heavy high power ESCs.
      Lol, your right if he was referring to empty that would be ridiculous. I’m just envisioning someone bolting motors to a folding lawn chair and flying it around at that kind of weight, haha!

    I went with 19K for more flight time, cause I was afraid of the 25K. But the 48khz pwm you get 4+ minutes on 25K. I wished I got the 25K; it’s not the insane power I need, but it’s throttle resolution and out of the box the throttle resolution of the 19K is not great when you’re used to 75mm 2s whoops, really...

    • @carveking

      Carve Maybe I just the wrong terminology, but what I mean is on the 19K, 0 to around 40% throttle does absolutely nothing, where I would expect the 25K to already hover long before that.

    I've crashed this little fellow literally everywhere, it's still alive and I didn't change any part of it, even the small break aren't preventing it from flying. I love it, it's my favourite tiny whoop and I'll likely buy another one. I cannot say the same for its big brother, the 7. That thing is the exact opposite. Really, the rate is almost 1 crash = 1 part broken, preventing to fly again. In comparison, the tiny hawk 2 is unbreakable.

    Bardwell, the 25k kv motors on the mobula 6 are definitely not that high. With hard ripping I get 3 min flight time and normal flying like 3.5 and slow I get 4 min. I think they labeled them wrong (or maybe betafpv labeled the 22k kv ones wrong). I think it is definitely worth a shot to try the 25k kv and that is the version I would recommend to people. Please give this a try and prove me wrong!

  • @squeaks3814

    Don’t make my mistake guys don’t get the 19kv motors it lacks power so when you take tight turns you run out of throttle and power when doing power loops after about 30 seconds you start banging the ground cause it doesn’t have power to stay in the air just get the 25kv and if they are to much for you set a throttle curve tell you get used to more power

    I have the meteor65 and I can say that it takes a thrashing. I fly in a space like your man cave down there, maybe with a longer straight and I'm on it full tilt and I have not broken a frame yet. Stress point definently but no breaks(buy colored frames, the transparent frame is noticeably weaker). It's just a nice rigid solid build. I do fly the 22000kv and can say it is manageable indoors but I do recommend the 19500kv for the longer flight time. Inside trolling around I get 2-2:30 flight time.
    I just feel you're wrong about one thing and that's that betafpv is a way more reliable build and is worth the extra 30 bucks in my opinion. Theres something that wasn't acounted for and it was betafpv motors.i know it was a mobula7 review😅. They have bearings instead of washers and can be repaired if for some reason a lead is broken. I don't believe the motors are rebrands either. There an innovation by betafpv. My one gripe is they need a new material for that canopy. Sure there only $2.50 for a new one but who wants to do that for a canopy like glass. Thinking some flex seal spray on the inside will help it big time.
    Any who thank you for you infinite knowledge. Gonna have to pick this guy up and maybe that'll be my 19000kv set up for insode 😁. I'll be sure to use your link.

    This was a really great video, Joshua. I loved how you compared the two drones; it was a really fair and honest assessment. As always, I know I can trust the information if it is coming from you (and a tiny group of other RUclipsrs). I disagree with you on a couple of items, though. Not to start an argument, but just to share my viewpoint, I disagreed with you on the KV numbers. I would go for the higher KV motors for both of thesebecause I want the power to get out of trouble if I need it. And I agree that the throttle response on the higher KV motors is twitchy. But, I would resolve that issue with some throttle scaling. We also disagree on the cameras. In terms of resolution, I thought they were pretty even. But, in low light such as on your indoor footage, I thought that the Mobula 6 handled exposure challenges better. For example, when the Meteor 65 was flying straight at a “white” wall, I thought that the highlights were all blown out. The Mobula 6 handled that situation much better. And I think it carries through for both whoops; the way that they handle exposure differs and I think that the camera on the Mobula 6 has better dynamic range, which translates into an easier transition from bright to dark. Just my thoughts, Joshua, and I think that it really boils down to a matter of taste. Thanks, as always, for a really good comparative review. P.S. I thought that both cameras were dreadful outside, so much so that it would be a comparison of bad to more bad. Peace.

    Ok but seriously that's a smart ruse cause vinyl is way way undeniably better than digital format sound lol. Obviously. That said I'm waiting for the tech to be good enough for them to make a brushless true micro or nano or whatever is as tiny as those little tiny indoor cheap drones like the jetjat ultra except I want one that flies acro.. I got the mobula 6. It's a great little quad but its still not small enough to be an indoor drone in small tight quarters. Sure if you have a big house its amazing for indoor. But my house is really tiny. Bring on the 25mm quantum quads lol. I'm coining that phrase right now.

    With 2s you have more power, 1s applies for indoor, for outdoor it is boring and if there is wind, then you can not fly. I think whoops 2s for outdoors exist to have the chance to fly them in your neighborhood (responsibly), and know you will not cause any damage if you crash. Fly a 1s outdoors with a little wind and you drain all the battery in less than 1 minute. I really would like a 2s whoop with a decent flight time. For indoors mobula6 is the better option ;)
