  • If you think ULEZ won't affect you, the presence of these cameras on your local street should make it real. If not today, be sure that these cameras are coming for you, and sooner than you think. And they won't stop at cars - smug cyclists better take heed, you're on the radar too.

Pay per mile is essentially a system of compelling motorists to covert their vehicles into personal taxis. We'll be forced to meter our journeys and then pay a bill. Absolutely outrageous. Its highway robbery on an industrial scale.

THAT'S the bit I can't accept. I pay about 56 quid a month for my Allroad, fair enough, it's a 2.7 litre v6 diesel. But we live WAY outside London and the closest that car gets to the expanded ulez is Staines. I wouldn't take it further in anyway. But £56 a month plus £12.50 per visit plus the exorbitant tax and duty on fuel PLUS x number of pence per mile is taking the mickey. Luckily I can still visit my cousin near the elephant and castle cos my other car is a ulez compliant rover 25. Others not so fortunate are going to be paying a shedload of cash. Road tax should go, the only fair ways to pay for driving are fuel tax - the more you use the more you pay and outside urban areas price per mile. No ulez charge, congestion charge dropped to 20p per hour you're there and if you drive uneconomically, ie big engine or you drive like loony, you pay more.

Not to mention how unreliable public transport already is in london. When you look at public transport systems in Denmark, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Japan, China, Korea, they had solved these problems in the 90s. We are in 2023 and can't go a few days without major tube delays. And they expect us to rely on this system

    • @RedheadLady
      @RedheadLady Год назад +2

I’m a train driver. I commute in 12 miles one way. I drive and there’s no way I can use any public transport between my home and my depot because of shifts start or end times (some shifts are feasible for public transport but not many)
Khan is very very short sighted. Pricing public off the road can and will impact public transport eventually. More demand but less ability to deliver it.
Not only that but our high streets are dying. This will kill them off even quicker so it will impact our economy too.

Of course pay per mile is coming because if everyone switches to a compliant car then they revenue stream dries up and the implementation cost doesn't get covered if compliance take up is quick enough, also the massive hole in TFL's budget doesn't get filled. I already have to pay £630 a year RFL, (soon to rise to nearly £700), and I only do about 1200miles a year, add fuel, wear and tear/running costs, and insurance to that and I could probably get a taxi everywhere for less but I don't want to give up my V6 4x4 Alfa saloon and I feel I'm already paying significantly to run it the few times I do. Eventually people will be pushed to the point they start to fail to pay tax and insurance on a greater scale than already happens.

Ask Sadiq why isn’t the money from ULEZ being spent to Great Ormond Street Hospital or to develop green spaces planting trees, as he did use them in his arguments to implement the ULEZ expansion, if he wants cleaner air shouldn’t the proceeds go to them. However on the TfL “All money received from the ULEZ will be reinvested into improving the transport network and making London’s air cleaner.”
Another note Sadiq has a new book called “Breathe” about climate ironically the book is a made from paper, paper that comes from trees, find it strange coming from a guy who says he is imposing all this for a better air quality. At the same time he wants to build more concrete housing.

I am a resident of Greater Manchester, and I have seen the impact of the Manchester version of the ULEZ zone. We have signs up all around major and other routes about the London Style ULEZ zone being proposed In Greater Manchester. I got so worried by it, as a Disabled Motability driver I got an EV car back in October last year. Already I have seen the pinch on my Wallet. I have seen the rise of public charges go up 4 times from Free to now £0.44 pKW (7KW charge) and £0.40 to £0.69 pKW (50 KW charge) and I can only charge my EV publicly due to the place I live. I do a lot of motorway miles and because it now costs me up to £25 to charge up and I charge up 2x to 4x times a week I have had to pay £250 to chancel my Motability agreement and ordered a self-charging Hybrid. So this ULEZ and Pay-Per-Mile have to stop and I do agree if they force these schemes on the drivers the outcome won't be pretty. Excellent video BTW :)

I agree this is totally disgusting in every way but there was a similar campaign when the congestion stealth tax came in. People were refusing to pay including me.
6am on a Sunday morning in 2003 my car had disappeared from outside my house. Yes it was those lovely bailiffs. The car still had nearly £10 k of finance on it and I rang the bailiffs and they were like "tough give us the money!!!" some £1200.00.
I rang the finance company, they weren't interested, I was completely powerless. I had to use the car to go to work to pay the finance. I couldn't keep my job was just outside London and would be two hours each way on public transport. I had to take a much lower paid job nearer to home. Couldn't pay finance on something I could no longer use to earn and the finance company (Black Horse Finance) slapped a £10k charging order on my house.
I utterly hate the way government and councils abuse the motorist because they can systematically single you out as an individual and bully you.
If anything is in your name they've got you!!

I posted a link to a video about an EV almost costing a guy his life. RUclips seems to have deleted the comment tho, has happened to me a few times with EV comments now. I miss that thing we used to have, it's getting hard to remember the name these day's.. I think it was called freedom lol
Also the pay per mile will probably be 12/15p per mile as that's how it is already with new car contracts. You're aloud to do 15/25 thousand miles a year depending on what manufacturer you buy with. Then you get charged 12/15p per mile for every mile over.
Alot of people still don't seem to realise you're limited with the things you can do with a new car until it's paid off. There's a guy on RUclips lost his Bmw cause he started modding it as soon as he got it, he didn't realise it said in the contract that you couldn't do anything to the car until the final payment's had been made lol

It does seem hypocritical that the man telling everyone to buy electric cars is driving around in a 5 Litre petrol driven Range Rover. Such a large car for a tiny little man also! He can’t be that bothered about the environment. It’s almost like he’s just trying to steal more money from the people to pay for all his miss management. It would be much cheaper to get a mayor that can run things properly in the first place without thinking “Well, i’ll just get more money from the people.”

It has to be total non compliance, kill the cameras, no plates, false plates etc, non payment of fines. I will start when it reaches where I live (not in London)

So as a motorist, are you expected to keep track of all the zones you’ve driven through and when, and then take the onus of visiting the appropriate websites in time to pay the charges? Given that there will be such a wealth of information available on your movements, why the hell can’t you just be sent a bill, say once a month?
It’s just like the Dartford Crossing online charge, the first time I fell foul of that I didn’t even know about it. A few signs above the road “Pay online”, no explanation; who has to pay? For what?
    Passive-aggressive behaviour from authorities.

Totally agree re: the Dartford tunnel crossing. I realised on the Kent side when DartCharge came in, the toll booths were removed & everything shifted online that there were NO actual signs along the M20 from coast/Dover/Eurotunnel indicating that the Dartford crossing was subject to a TOLL. It still says nothing except the cryptic "Pay Online".
Pay what? For what? For where? Totally unclear. First off, it's highly presumptuous to think everyone has immediate internet access & I'm quite sure newly arrived visitors on their way to Essex, the North or Scotland with limited English won't understand it's a TOLL, nor be able to negotiate an English website. (Highly doubt there's any other helpful languages). Personally I think it's done intentionally to confuse and then they have the nerve to periodically moan that thousands of foreign trucks & cars have not paid and pursue them way after the fact for outrageous fines. Well how many of those innocently had no idea ?
Besides, the costs of the construction of the bridge and tunnel were paid back more than 20 years ago, after which the crossing was supposed to have been free.
It's diabolical. Another indication of the blatant lies and fraud perpetrated on the motoring cash cow public.

Even if I had understood it, the last thing you want to have to do when abroad on holiday is remember to go onto their stupid website (with your possibly poor connection and roaming data charges) to pay the fee. Because of the timing they impose, I had no opportunity to pay whilst still in the UK (by midnight the next day - why?).

These cameras are just another way for councils to rob people. I got caught by some spurious bus lane camera in Bristol that was basically entrapment due to the way it was positioned on a particular piece of road. I fought it and won the case but how they were even legally allowed to position it in that way in the first place makes me question the whole system. These ULEZ cameras are no different.

I live in central London just outside the congestion charge zone (another piece of thinking that focuses on money rather than what it actually was meant to) and I have seen these cameras popping up everywhere but never knew what they where?
Initially I thought they were road tax cameras 🤷
Where I live around Tower Bridge there has been a large scale program lately of reducing road space down to one lane in either direction so the remaining space can be made into a segregated cycle lane. There has also been a lot of new CPZ Controlled parking zones enforced which means in a certain area of multiple streets unless you buy a yearly permit you are unable to park there from 8am-11pm including weekends.
It has become a very hard city to live in now for the motorist especially as we are an easy source of needed income pushed through under the guise of "environmental improvements, air quality and way of life"
It's sneaky how they are pushing through all these laws without being honest and truthful to us the public.

Look at the rollout of the (new) free bicycle programme in Southall. They are putting GPS trackers on the bikes, to monitor where they go and what distance they do. Look it up. Their real purpose is testing a bicycle tracking system with GPS and geofencing. From there, it goes problem-reaction-solution. Problems will be highlighted in the press with nuisance cyclists and e-scooters. Then the public will call for action. Then comes the proposal to only allow bicycles on the road if they are tracked. This is very easy to do with cameras. After that, charging.
