    LYRICS
(EN transl.: In view of my true sorrows, in view of my heartache,
a monster, a venomous snake, a rock, would be less cruel, less deaf and less unmoving, and would at least show pity for me.
But you appear to deride my pain, despising so cruelly the fire of love that consumes me).
    ABOUT
After our cantata CDs dedicated to Leonardo Vinci and Nicola Porpora, this recording is our tribute to Niccolò Jommelli on the occasion of the tercentenary of his birth. It contains the first world recording of four chamber cantatas by the neapolitan composer: Didone abbandonata, E quando sarà mai, La Gelosia, Partir conviene, addio. The cantatas on this recording surmised from Jommelli’s youth and early stage of artistic maturity: they display dazzling qualities, which anticipate future developments observed in the composer’s later works. They bear witness not only to the fact that the chamber cantata was always utilised by accomplished composers to display their skills but also that the genre was viewed as an experimental field in which musical language underwent further development until these innovations had matured and evolved sufficiently to be transferred to the medium of opera.
The CD was recorded in October 2013 by Marco Taio at Palazzo Visconti, in Brignano (Italy).
