We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
This was so helpful. I installed mine today after following your instructions and it worked perfectly!! Thank you for your tips and time u put into making this video
Two big thumbs up for your recommending the Bosch 7/32” concrete drill bit!!! I started my holes with a 1/8” Bosch concrete drill bit, then finished with the 7/32”.

@Ashish. Not sure what the size of the screw is but you can get them on amazon. Thanks for your comment and question and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al Repairs
Great idea. I think it would work just fine. You can give it a try and if it doesn't work you can always drill two more holes. I really don't think you'll have any problems. Let us know how it works out. Another person suggested just gluing it on. That would probably work too. Good luck on whatever you decide.
Do you already have the door bell part mounted onto one of the mounting plates and or both of them already when youve made sure its even and made your markings?
Kryssana MacPherson No, You need to make sure it looks level in relationship to the bricks. And then make sure that when you are marking the bricks with the plate just make sure that you do good job marking and that it's level and you don't move the plate while you're making the markings. I hope this helps. good luck and have a great day!
That is a great question. The reason we bought the ring with batteries is because the wiring was in another place that would not work with the ring. If you can use the wiring you should look at the ring directions for wiring your doorbell. Thanks again and let us know how it turns out.
@Ken. Thanks for your question. If you have a hammer drill you probably don't need the bosch drill bit. I woul try drilling and if you are having a hard time you can always buy the bosch bit. Best of luck and let us know how your project goes. Best of luck and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al repairs.
The bit they provide did not work very well on our brick siding either! So sorry about that! Good luck and hopefully you can figure it out! Thanks for the comment! Let us know if you have more questions.

If you don't have a hammer drill -- or even if you do -- select a location so that 2 of the 4 holes go through the mortar instead of the brick. Now, 2 of your holes will go *much* faster.
Great suggestion. Thanks so much for your comment. Best of luck with your project. I hope that all goes well and hopefully you subscribe to big Al Repairs.
@Thasia. That is a great question. I think you should be okay as long as the screw will reach the anchor. you will have to let us know how it turns out. Again thanks so much for your comment and question.
@@BigAl-1 so far so good ... I don't think I had things lined up the best, but it all worked out. I used everything that came in the box for the Doorbell 3 Plus. I watched like 10 or so videos on RUclips and yours was the only one that showed all these extra steps.
When you are drilling brick or masonry, ALWAYS wear N95 masks as bricks and mortars have silica inside them. Even minor exposure to them can cause hazardous conditions on your health.
@Antonio Thomas. The doorbell was on the other side of the wall which would not give us a view of our front porch so we would have to somehow run the wires to the other side of the door. Thanks so much for your question and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al repairs.

Can you use the mortar to anchor into? I'm renting and wanting to make it easy to fix/fill holes when my lease is up.
@Sarah. Great question. I think you would be fine drilling into motor. I would also only use two screws and put them in on diagonal on opposite ends. Best of luck with your next and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al Repairs. Also let us know how it turns out.
What is the screw size for mounting the device on the brick wall? I lost one of 4 screws.
@Ashish. Not sure what the size of the screw is but you can get them on amazon. Thanks for your comment and question and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al Repairs
See if just opposite corners are enough to secure it? Less holes to repair if you move it?
Great idea. I think it would work just fine. You can give it a try and if it doesn't work you can always drill two more holes. I really don't think you'll have any problems. Let us know how it works out. Another person suggested just gluing it on. That would probably work too. Good luck on whatever you decide.
Mine came w a boring blue acrewdriver,no bit and no level my ahit looks like wood but acting stubborn this is so annoying
@P Ashes. Thanks for your comment and so sorry you are having a difficult time installing it. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.
For the Ring Doorbell 2 there is no mounting plate. The screws go directly into the doorbell. Does this make sense?
Kryssana MacPherson Hopefully you subscribed so you can give us feedback on our future projects.
My drill bit is giving issues too. I’m gonna have to wait to install mine. 🥺 I was soo close to having it done in less than an hour 😫
@Samantha. Hang in there. If you have access to a hammer drill the ring bit should work. Best of luck!
Where does the wiring go?
That is a great question. The reason we bought the ring with batteries is because the wiring was in another place that would not work with the ring. If you can use the wiring you should look at the ring directions for wiring your doorbell. Thanks again and let us know how it turns out.
This was crucial for success
Thanks so much for your comment and best of luck with your next DIY project. Hopefully you subscribe to Big Al repairs.
Do you think getting a Bosch drill bit would be a good idea?
@Ken. Thanks for your question. If you have a hammer drill you probably don't need the bosch drill bit. I woul try drilling and if you are having a hard time you can always buy the bosch bit. Best of luck and let us know how your project goes. Best of luck and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al repairs.
I've used 3 bits. Hammer drills are the best way to handle this along with a good 7/32 bit.
Is that a hammer drill? I'm having a lot of trouble with just a standard drill and the Bosch drill bit.
Just a standard plug in drill is what I used. You are drilling into brick? Let me think if I can find another solution for you...
You need to use hammer drill. 5 seconds per hole. The bit Ring supplies is absolutely awesome.
I got an Irwin it did not last
What is an irwin?
My drill is so weak I’ve been going at it for two days and still am not close to finishing
You need a hammer drill
@Dirty Dan. You can use a hammer drill. Or it worked fine when I bought the Bosch drill bit. The bosch drill bit work much better.
I’m having to buy a bit, nothing is happening with the one provided. I’m actually scared it’ll snap
The bit they provide did not work very well on our brick siding either! So sorry about that! Good luck and hopefully you can figure it out! Thanks for the comment! Let us know if you have more questions.
You can also try using a hammer drill with the bit.
Was it mentioned about the drill bit that it has to be a MASONRY Drill bit? Otherwise, the drill bit will burn up, and not drill into the brick
Thanks for the tip, yes which is why we bought the new drill bit. Thanks!
So don't you need the plate on the back that came with it?
Vicky, I’m not sure what “back” you are referring to. I have converted to the Blink so I no longer have Ring for a reference. Maybe if you are using the wired version. Thanks so much for your question. Best of luck with your next DIY project and hopefully you will subscribe to Big Al Repairs.
I'm sitting here watching this thinking my apartment complex is not going to be okay with this 👁👄👁
I would definitely get approval before you install :)
You can buy a no screw mount from the ring site, it’s basically a back plate with command strips on. Should be renter friendly I think
@@saraha5973 That's awesome, I did not know that! Thanks for letting me know!
Is it a bad thing to drill into mortar? Before watching your video, I drilled bottom two in mortar, top two in brick
After hammering the anchors in, I used the power drill to get the screws in because it wasn't working by hand. All in all, your video helped greatly! I watched like 10 or so videos on RUclips and yours was the only one that showed all these extra steps.
When you are drilling brick or masonry, ALWAYS wear N95 masks as bricks and mortars have silica inside them.
Even minor exposure to them can cause hazardous conditions on your health.
Thanks for the great tip!
How do you replace the battery?
We are actually going to post another video for this in a few days so watch out for that!
So you don’t have to have a doorbell system already installed?
@Antonio Thomas. The doorbell was on the other side of the wall which would not give us a view of our front porch so we would have to somehow run the wires to the other side of the door. Thanks so much for your question and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al repairs.
You can do it either way. You can attach the doorbell wires or you can install the ring video doorbell without a doorbell system
Where is your power source?
@JC. The power source is a battery pack. The ring video doorbell 2 comes with rechargeable batteries. So there is no power source. You can buy a ring video doorbell that will connect to your existing doorbell wires. Best of luck with your project. And hopefully you subscribe to Big Al repairs
Does anyone know if this wireless??
@JoePalac P. The device can be wired or wireless using the battery. You can view the videos via wifi.
