I wish I could control the light strength from the geometry nodes modifier controls. Having everything all in one place works be so user friendly. I also wish I could use point lights instead of emission.
I've not tried this, but maybe you can pipe an input value from the modifier through to an output value. Then use that as an attribute in your material?
@@JohnnyMatthews tried that, tried drivers too. They don't work when linked or appended to another file. With appending I've got to recreate the driver in the work file again and with linking nothing happens.
awesome tutorial! One question. When you toggle on the shield button on "marqee sign" node group, does it automatically protect node groups instide it as well, or should we toggle them all individually to ensure not loosing them ?
I'm thinking about a way to switch the lights on and off, in like a 'walking' fashion. So 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 basically and being able to flip that. I was trying your row selection/modulo method but it doesn't really work. You have any ideas or tips?
Did you figure it out? I have a solution if you did not. index > add > ping-pong > delete geometry > instance on points. Put a boolean set to (not) after the ping-pong going into a second delete geometry > instance on points. I'll post it to twitter and tag Johnny. Might make a decent quick follow up.
@@JohnWesleyDavison Thanks 👍 I was messing around with pingpong already but also couldn't quite get that to where I wanted. Does anyone know how the pingpong function actually works? Is it a boolean selection going back and forth between 0 and 1 for a given input?
This is EXACTLY what I searched for, thanks a lot for this great explanation and introduction to geometry nodes and procedual generation!
You’re one of the GN magicians. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge :)
He is a blender developer.
@@StudioCreativeRender Yes, of course I know that. Nevertheless, it is not natural that he also shares his knowledge.
@@blenderpete Yea it's 100% right.
You're very welcome! Thx for watching.
Thanks bro, ur a heaven send!
Happy to help
Wow! imagine simulating times square with this!
It would be like old-timey time square 😁
@@JohnnyMatthews I just can't wrap my head around the math in geo nodes, with your skills and engineering background I do believe it would be amazing!
Ha ha this is genius. While i'm struggling with geo nodes this is brilliant 👌🎈
Thanks for all your amazing job with Blender! Geometry nodes is super exiting
It really is! Hope these videos are helpful!
You're awesome! Thanks for sharing the geometry nodes joy!!!
yooooooooooooo!
Glad you like them!
I am so happy I found your channel it's great keep going🥰
Thank you so much!! and thanks for watching :)
Now that's amazing!
Aww thanks.

I'll do my best!
great ! Great & Great ! Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful, thanks :)

Sort of, because they have users that are protected.
Control-shift-right-click and drag doesn't work for me to join geometry. Is there a preference/addon that needs to be enabled?
hmm, maybe that's a node-wrangler thing. You should definitely enable that.
@@JohnnyMatthews Yeah, apparently when I updated to 3 I didn't copy my 2.9.x preferences. Thanks.
how can i add an image?
nice!!☺
Thanks! 😊

Maybe the selection on the instance on points. You would then need a second instance on points of the 'off' lights with the selection flipped.
@@JohnnyMatthews going to give this a go, thanks

@@boudewyn It's a float value that bounces back and forth between zero and one.
Coool!
