Are We Saved By Works?
“We don’t do good works to get into a state of justification. Good works flow from a state of justification.” This is the first time I’ve heard a Catholic say this and it makes me happy. Good teaching!
I agree with the statement but he seems to mean something unclear by it. This is because of the idea of imputation vs infusion.
When in scripture says that WORKS can't save you they are referring to THE LAW. Jesus superseded the Law and thru Him you are saved you can never keep perfect law so it can not save you BUT When they say WITHOUT WORKS YOU ARE NOT SAVED they are referring to Good Works of Love for others. Get away from Me I don't know you. Salvation can be lost. it is not a right. Thru sin and selfishness you lose your salvation. Satan believes in Jesus. Anyone can believe in Him and not be saved. You must also confess your sins and be truly contrite. If you are in a state of sin Grace is cut off.

@@christiandpaul2022 Faith isn't just believing in God, it's believing God's promises as Paul points out in Romans 4 and elsewhere. I agree that good works flow from a state of justification, however, to say that good works upkeep salvation is inaccurate according to Rom 3:28, Eph 2:8, and Gal 3 and 4.

Human beings have always wanted and tried to save themselves from their own sins and earn their own eternal salvation. It is part of our sinful nature to do so. But there is no amount of human good works that could ever satisfy the demands of perfect holiness before YHWH because we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). But Jesus, The Christ, was SINLESS and He satisfied all the demands of perfect righteousness. So He shed His own blood and died for our sins in order to redeem us. Then He rose from the dead and victoriously offered that glorious gift of eternal life to anyone and everyone who believes in Him and His promise to give us this gift. Hallelujah, What a Savior!! AND NOW we are FREE in Christ - at LIBERTY to LOVE OTHERS!

Remember that Jesus curses the tree that bears no fruit. The servant who didn't invest his talent was punished. The wedding guest who showed up without his garment was beaten and cast into the darkness. Faith without works is dead.
The problem with your references are than they are in line with being punished for sins, but not affecting wether you're saved or not.

True salvation reverses the order of and redefines ‘works’ as opposed to the world. When someone sees the truth about their own depravity and receives revelation on what they are actually being saved FROM - eternal damnation - there is a depth of gratitude to God for salvation for being set free, such that it’s natural to love Him and others, and this grows with more revelation of Him.
so true, faith can be outwardly shown by you faith and faith is dead without works, but you can not work you way to heaven, but only through believing that the Son of God died on the cross and repenting/turning from your sins

Dr. Brandt Pitre of Catholic Productions explained it another way which also shed light on the topic. I don't understand how Protestants without fail, assail the Catholic Church on this topic, when in fact, when you ask them to explain their belief, they declare exactly what Mr.Akin stated.
As a Protestant, I could not agree more. I have become increasingly FURIOUS at how badly I was taught in reference to Catholicism growing up.

At 2:58, Jimmy says "It is impossible for us to do supernaturally good works prior to the point in our lives where we convert and we're justified...we come to God, we believe, we repent, we get baptized, he justifies us and gives us his grace." This is an excellent summary of new birth, the true salvation process and it doesn't fit with the justification by infant baptism model. But it is so encouraging to hear the gospel presented clearly at least for the initial entrance point of justification.
Am I right in thinking that there is no disagreement between protestants and catholics about this? I know they often think there is, but listening to yourself and others explain both positions all I hear is an observer effect. It's humans failing to understand one another but if they did they would realise they're saying the same thing. Unless I'm missing something. Am I right or wrong?
Basically, yes, the faith and works discussion is far more controversial than it needs to be and most of it comes from straw men. Works alone don’t get you into a state of grace, and a merely intellectual faith won’t get you to heaven. God puts a gift into your hands, and you have to work to keep that gift and grow with it. You can also do work by letting go or even throwing the gift away and stomping on it.
Pretty much the difference is we believe we are saved By Faith where protestants say they are saved by Faith alone which is wrong. I guess it’s just the terminology they use. Faith is never alone.
@@georgeibrahim7945 Yes but when they say they're saved by faith alone they're talking about the instant of being saved from the state of being incapable of such works that Jimmy spoke of too. On that count both agree. Then Catholics refer to the process of salvation (which we most certainly do with fear and trembling according to the Bible) but for some reason protestants also acķnowledge this without including it as part of being saved. So both sides acknowledge both elements but it's how they choose to define salvation - as an instant or as a process. In reality it's both. So it's like observing light as a wave or a particle - whichever you look for you will see. An observer effect limited beings should expect to occur. But to God we can trust there is no contradiction.
@Jozo Kulis That's another issue where I hear both arguments and I think both are right about everything except that they think the other is wrong. I really don't get why there was division in the first place. Like, maybe there were abuses that caused reformers to respond but it looks like official doctrine never supported those abuses and now everyone sounds like they're just describing the same thing from different angles. Obviously this is just my perspective but I honestly cannot see the errors.

Amen! I’m a protestant and so I disagree with the Catholic Church on much dogma but this dogma was wholly on point.
I’m emailing a Catholic deacon about these matters partly bc I’m concerned about the salvation of ppl within the church. He has disputed the points made in this video. I’m impressed that a proudly Catholic source has educated on proper Pauline theology! I’m also a former overseas missionary kid from Argentina, where I discussed these matters often. No Catholic that I’ve met up to now has properly understood xian dogma. Most don’t understand Catholic dogma either.

Catholic Answers are closet protestants. They dont actually represent Council of Trent doctrine on justification, many other Catholics have taken umbrage with Catholic Answers for the Protestant theology they push. I am a protestant so I dont mind it, but it is dishonest that Catholic Answers wont admit that they have deviated from the council of Trent.
I believe that it's truly impossible to be saved through grace and not have good works become a result of that Faith.
The Power of Christ Jesus working through our heart will become a lightning rod of our good works in life.
Why did Luther notice that believers often do not do the good works that result from saving faith. He blames them for taking advantage of the liberty they have and for not being committed to the gospel.
The Gospel, by which they have been delivered from burdens and troubles so manifold, and might feel a little shame because like pigs and dogs they retain no more of the Gospel than such a lazy, pernicious, shameful, carnal liberty!

If you give your life saving or trying to save the life of another, then yes you are saved.

I heard someone much smarter than I commenting on the faith w/out works is dead passage and they said basically the same thing but the topic was faith. Some people think that w/out works true faith cannot be, but the opposite is true. Because of faith, this is what enables us to do those good works. It's almost unavoidable. So if we aren't doing good works, then what truly is the health of our faith? We may have it on our tongues but do we have it in our hearts?
I think the only part that was unclear was the term "we grow in our righteousness, or grow in our justification, over the course of the Christian life by doing good works in cooperation with God’s grace." Once we are justified by God's grace we are fully justified. I do agree that we do have to work thru God's grace to continue to be "growing in Christlike-ness" after being justified.

Being a reformed Protestant this explanation is spot on, apart from baptism being an element towards salvation. What if you believed Christ surrendered to him was going to be baptized and died before you were able to be baptized?
The theif on the cross next to Jesus was never baptized and he entered the kingdom of heaven. think that answers your question
@@carsonbaird3904 The Bible never says that the thief wasn't baptized. He could have been baptized before being on the cross. If you believe sola scriptura (and logic, for that matter), there are two possibilities open from reading the text: 1) he was baptized and the Bible doesn't mention; 1) he wasn't baptized, and the Bible also doesn't confirm that.

@@gijoe508read the rest of the verse it explicitly says not the putting away of the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience towards God. That doesn’t sound like the water is the important part.
We are save by grace first and works follow.
Man has free.will to do good works or not and.your concept shouldn't be taken in an absolute sense
Talents are given to our several ability and must be encouraged to do Good works, keep the commandments and stay fruitful.👍🏻

Even the word Charity was added over the word love, if it’s truth you seek you will find it, anything else is darkness.
You should read John 15 : 1,7 and accept it.
If we read “Abraham believed God” without any context, it looks like the reformers were right. But when you go back and read the story in Genesis 17, it looks like the exact opposite of belief. Abraham fell on his face and laughed when God told him that He would produce a child through Abe and Sarah.
Saving faith is this-->believing God ENOUGH to obey. In other words, you live as if He is telling you the truth. Abe got with Sarah and they had Isaac.
Saving faith/belief is not perfect knowledge or understanding, or even without doubt and misgivings. The faith that saves obeys God, sometimes in spite of our lack of belief.
By the way, I’m not Catholic but the Protestants are in error on this point.
That sounds exactly like what a confessional protestant believes, everything besides final justification. I would push back against a second round of justification for the faithful saint, considering they were already judged on the cross with Christ.

Is not the "stages of justification" whics are "past, present, and future" what Protestants call differently ? Namely, Justification, Sanctification, Glorification?
However, the bottom line is: Only Christ's work on the cross saves man and man does not have any participation --- work from himself / own will decision --- to save himself.

We aren't justified once we do all 3 of the following things that Jimmy says we first need to do to be saved which are: believing, repenting, and getting baptized. Ephesians 2:8-10 clearly states that we are justified through faith alone, not by works.
Ephesians 2:8-10 "8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
I am not devaluing works. Works are very important as the last verse demonstrates that God desires for us to be transformed in doing good works. All I am saying is that works do not play into the actual justification when it occurs. Justification is by faith alone, which is why it was enough for Jesus to tell the criminal on the cross next to Him who said, "Jesus remember me when You enter Your kingdom", that he will be in paradise with Him.
Works are a reflection of the transformation that is occurring within a person who has already been justified in Christ.
You are exactly right. It is belief, faith, trust alone in what Jesus did on the cross. Repentance is agreeing with God about sin.
No works, not even baptism, is required for salvation.

We're Justified by Grace and we're Sanctified principally by Grace because it is the Holy Spirit who works in us - all we have to do is acquiese to the work being done by God and he rewards us in the next life for having allowed Him to work through us.

I am not a Catholic and actually know very little about their actual doctrine. That is why I watched this video. In 70 years, I have not even had much contact with any Catholics concerning Christianity. That is what interested me in this video.
I must say that I was quite pleased with what I heard. There is so much deception and false teaching about salvation in the non-Catholic world that it was refreshing to listen to this presentation from a Catholic.
I would only add one clarification that I think more accurately describes what is going on with works and salvation. Mr. Akin says that it is impossible to do supernatural works of the Spirit before salvation because one does not yet have the Spirit. I would not call the good works after conversion - supernatural. I can help a little old lady across the street before I am saved and do the exact same "work" after I am saved. It does not magically become some supernatural act after salvation. What has changed is why I am doing the same act. Before salvation, I may be doing it to feel good about myself and boast about what a good person I am. After salvation, I would do the same act but do it out of my faith in Jesus and love for God and my fellow man. This eliminates all boasting by the law of faith. (Rom 3:27) The nature of the act has not changed. What has changed is my motivation for doing it.

can someone please tell me how this is different from the Protestant teaching because dont they believe that you're justified and then you go do good works? and that they dont save you? im struggling to understand what the difference is. thanks.
What does Jimmy Akin mean around 4:30 time marker about Abraham already being justified? I thought in James 2:20, it states that James was justified by him following through on what He believed God was telling him to do. So which is it? Was Abraham justified by following through, or was He already justified and only his works (actions) will be rewarded in heaven? Can someone clarify what Jimmy is talking about here?

The question was about James yet most of Jimmy’s answer was about Paul.
When Janes says faith without works is dead he is referring to the works of mercy.
Jesus says in Matt 15:8 that people honor him with their mouth but their hearts are far from him. The devil can give lip service , but we demonstrate that Christ lives in us through works. How did the people know that Jesus the Carpenters son was the Messiah? Yes, by faith but also by works, miracles and the awesome work of the resurrection. People know that Christ lives in us by our works of mercy. It’s to many liars and snakes in the Church all dressed up in robes, speaking Latin and Hebrew, quoting scripture but our wicked wolves in sheep clothing.

the bible clearly says in the n.t. at least 5 times that salvation is by faith, NOT works. truly good works are the result of salvation, not the cause of it. the roman catholic church cannot provide faith or salvation in any way, including the eucharist/mass. it is a gift from God.
This sounds very close to how many Protestants would understand the role good works in salvation as well. If Jimmy is correct about Rome’s teaching on this, it sounds like this shouldn’t be pressed as a point of disagreement between Catholics and Protestants.
Good works stem from a belief, a trust and a faith in Jesus as your atoning saviour. Being born again, as Jesus referred to it means you die to yourself and are reborn in the identity of Jesus Christ… it’s a relationship with God
Essentially we are to do good works and not just faith alone with Jesus. But these good works are to be practiced with love to one another until the end of one's life.
Matthew 7:22- 24:
22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' ---- these are good works aren't they? Yes.
23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' ----- Why Lord? didn't we just do good works such as those in verse 22?
24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. --- which I believed impliedly saying that the whole law or commandments of Jesus should be practice by doing His good works with love and working them out until the end of one's life:
1 Corinthians 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing

This is one of the clearest explanations I've heard on this. I still have some questions though. It seems like you very much say that we are not saved by our works but by the grace of God and that our works stem from knowing that God's grace is what saves us. So rather than doing good works in order to boast or claim higher status over others. These supernatural works stem as gratitude from the Grace of God and our desire to become more Christ like.
My question now would be what would this mean for something like baptism. Is that considered a work that is necessary for salvation? Or is baptism done as a response to the grace of God bestowed upon us and a desire for us and our children to be more Christ like?
They attempt to explain what... And how. Never why.
The explanation is incomplete without the why.
parable of the rich man and Lazarus. One person is responsible for self. Profits, teachers, apostles, Saints, plus The Laws, or commandments to abide by. Can't get out of jail to give warning. A person who has good and plenty has more responsibility for charity and be not be selfish.

From the first, faith has been God’s means of justifying men
"God’s blessing must be our objective, and the way to win it our study. Search the records of ancient times. Why was our father Abraham blessed? Was it not because his upright and straightforward conduct was inspired by faith? As for Isaac’s faith, it was so strong that, assured of the outcome, he willingly allowed himself to be offered in sacrifice. Jacob had the humility to leave his native land on account of his brother, and go and serve Laban. He was given the twelve tribes of Israel.
Honest reflection upon each of these examples will make us realize the magnitude of God’s gifts. All the priests and levites who served the altar of God were descended from Jacob. "What good is it, my brothers and sisters,
if someone says he has faith but does not have works?
Can that faith save him?

but you do not give them the necessities of the body,
what good is it?
So also faith of itself,
if it does not have works, is dead.

You believe that God is one.

The disagreement is in the nature of justification itself. The righteousness of God is not Christ's personal righteousness attributed to the believer but rather the righteousness from God by which he makes the believer intrinsically just, holy and pleasing to God in their soul and it is upon this basis that God pronounces the blessing to them of having been pardoned and set free from sin and condemnation, having received the gift of friendship with God. Or one can say that God's pronouncement creates that in the soul.. in either case their is no justification without the interior work of Grace to cleanse and make holy the person from within..
With Lutherans, their belief is that justification is alien, extrinsic, and forensic....it happens only in the heavenly courtroom, so to speak, and not interiorly in the soul.
Also, with Catholics, it is both an event and a process and a culmination. They call it initial, progressive, and final justification. The initial gift of justification is without works...it is impossible to merit the grace of justification but once it is received one must cooperate with grace , which is itself by grace ( because without Him we can do nothing and we have nothing that we have not received and we cannot first give to God that he should recompense us, he takes the initiative in the order of grace) in order to grow in justification/ righteousness as a Child of God, and a person must be alert because one can lose the grace of justification by mortal sins, which destroy the divine charity in the soul and bring defilement and estrange the person from God, through their own choice.
One must preserve in doing good as St Paul says in Romans 2, to be justified at the judgement seat of Christ. So there are key differences between Lutheran and Catholic descriptions of the nature of justification. I am Eastern Orthodox and our belief is similar in many ways to the Roman understanding but we emphasize growing into the Divine likeness( theosis)to fulfill our original purpose and this is all a part of that.

Seemingly, what Mr. Akin has said, is that we DON'T HAVE TO do Works to receive salvation, or even to receive anything at all. We are just 'rewarded with salvation' for doing 'good works which we don't have to earn' anyways. This apparently, makes Works useless and, if you won't get saved through Works, you'll still get saved through Faith

I still fail to see the difference here perhaps because of how theologians communicate the knowledge they have. It appears theologians wanna use different terms to refer to the same thing, from a street person like me. Yet, if there is a difference, then this is how I picked it. Catholic: Indeed, you saved by faith, but you must continue with the good works to get the rewards. Protestants: Once you are saved by faith, that's it. You are saved. The good works that you are doing is just the fruit of the new life you had. You see in words, you reverse the two things, but in practice they are SAME. Same in a sense that Faith and Works (good works) involved in practice.
I think the difference is that Catholics see salvation as the continuous process of sanctification starting at baptism, continuing through life, death, and purgatory (if need be) unto the beatific vision. This is in opposition to the Protestant (evangelical) view that a person is saved by their faith and declared righteous by God.
Salvation is definitely by good works - faith, though not useless, is fruitless and powerless without good works, which are its necessary and natural fruits.
Christ preached salvation by works - He had far more to say about the need to do good works, than about faith. The perversion of Christianity concocted by Luther & his imitators is all thanks to their perversion (or possibly misunderstanding) of St Paul’s teaching, aggravated by Luther’s generalising, to the experience of all Christians, of his own psychological problems.
That good works done in a state of grace are meritorious, and merit an increase of grace from God, is Catholic teaching, & no Catholic should concede anything to those who deny that truth. It is not negotiable.
That the grace, both to do meritorious good works, and to increase in sanctifying grace, comes entirely and only from God through Christ in the Holy Spirit, does not alter the fact that meritorious good works are truly meritorious and truly merit an increase in sanctifying grace, just as the Church teaches.
Can we lose our justification?

It is sad that people don't understand the bible. We are judged by our deeds, our actions what the Bible calls works. If we truly believe in Jesus then we will live like he teaches. If we live in sin we will recieve the results, the fruits, of living that way which always leads to suffering. When we have a change of heart and turn to Christ in faith believing he is who he said he is and being baptized into his name and living according to his word we recieve the forgiveness of our sins and living according to God's Word we have inner peace and joy in the Holy Spirit which is the kingdom of heaven within us and it is the Spirit of Christ himself that gives us a new spirit and a regenerated heart and we become alive to God in Christ who is the satisfaction, the propitiation, of our sins in the sight of God. And when we sin if we confess our sins God is faithful to forgive us of our sins and living that way is pleasing to God and is our salvation in and of itself. According to the bible if we say we believe in Jesus and yet continue to live a lifestyle of sin we are deceiving ourselves and don't know Christ and the faith we claim to have is a dead faith because without the actions, the fruits whatever faith people claim to have is dead and not true faith at all. We live in a cause and effect world and irregardless what we claim to believe if we are living a life that is sinful, unhealthy and destructive we will recieve the results of those actions. Hell is nothing more than the inevitable results of a life lived badly and destructive.

Im afraid this is Protestant theology at it's worst. I listened to this talk a third time and when I heard Jimmy say that "when we come to Christ and accept him into our heart and become baptised??? That's not Catholic teaching. We are Baptised as infants when we do not know what we are receiving and that is when we are saved John 3;6. Past tense - we are being saved through the Gospel - present tense and hope to be saved through the grace of God - future tense. I'm actually shocked at Jimmy..

Even Thomas Aquinas has used the phrase “faith alone” in his commentary on Romans. Do you really believe Clement of Rome, Thomas Aquinas and John Chrysostom taught the doctrine of “sola fide” as taught by Luther (most Protestant don’t have the same Soteriology as Luther and the Lutherans, which is actually closer to the Catholic view)?
No Orthodox ☦️ or Roman Catholic Christian has ever taught, or teaches today, that we are “justified by works”. We are justified by faith.

Sola Scriptura is the heresy that begets all Protestant heresies. Protestant cannot even agree on something so foundational as baptism and Christology. Zwingli literally resurrected the ancient h ę ș è š ÿ of Nestorianism .. what possible could go wrong?!?

Works of the Law - rituals & rites of the Mosaic Law. Not good works, like feeding the hungry & caring for the sick.

You gave a very Protestant answer: which doesn't seem like official catholic teaching.
You're answer was very similar to one i give to mormons on their attempts to do works to gain the Celestial kingdom.
Good works are a byproduct of authentic Faith: not a cause of salvation a byproduct of salvation.
Which is what you seemed to say.
The only thing i would say is different is sanctification is the ongoing state of becoming more like christ as we mature as a Christian.
The Holy Spirit leads us into this sanctification and is a witness to us that we have been born Again and are on our way to heaven.

The good works that justify are not works that from from our own power but from the grace of God

Remember though from a Catholic that it is not works in of themselves that saves us. From a Catholic point of view it is perfectly reasonable to say that the thief went to Heaven because he was saved by faith but for us believers who well live after excepting Jesus must the works the would be a product of true faith. That's not to say there's some quanity of works you have to do. It's more about how you live your life.

It can't be a free gift if it is earned. Makes no sense. It's by grace through faith. Read Romans 11:6, Romans 3:28
And you misunderstood the context of Romans 2.
In essence we are still to do good works prepared in advance by God to be saved.. Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” --- otherwise what will happen to one soul if we didn't do this good works??
The good works or works of the law said in Romans and Galatians are Mosaic laws or.Torah that they believed required in order to be saved and was explained on the video...

Also, read Eph 2:8-9 before verse 10 that you mentioned. It's plain and simple.
@@DesignsByTrey it says there on your verse, “deeds of the law” and that is actually the Torah or Mosaic law as explained on the video and are not the good works prepared in advance by God in Ephesians 2:10.. yes the bottom line or after context of Ephesians 2: 8-9 is verse 10 that we are still to do good works prepared by God..-- So again, what happened to one’s soul if he didn't do this good works?
And your interpretation conflicted with James 2:24 “You see that a person is considered righteous by WHAT THEY DO and NOT by faith ALONE.” - this literal and direct to the point or there is no such faith alone Christianity belief so please correct yourself...

It seems your intepretation of James is what's actually incorrect. That's the problem. I see absolutely no conflict at all and I agree with James 100%. But James is talking about something different.
You failed to address, that we are justified by faith from Romans 3:28. Doesn't say that we are justified by works or deeds outside the law either. So you're purposely ignoring my point, lol.
Romans 4:1-3 4 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Paul interpreted it for me. No conflict at all.
James is speaking about what type of faith saves you. Real saving faith, will produce work (it's the fruit of true saving faith) and is justified before MAN, but NOT before God. We are justified by God and counted righteous through our faith alone. Period. If you would read James in context, you can clearly see it's Faith that is dead if works don't follow. It's not the works that save you or deem you righteous. Just justifiies you before man, so that PEOPLE can see your faith. That's it. It profits nothing to say you have faith and no works. Catholics and work based salvation preachers read way into it with their eisegesis. Clearly. No matter how people try to spin it, it clear thought the ENTIRE new testamant. Specifically Romans 1-6 and ALL of Galatians. No question about it.

@@SuperrBoyful if we are justified by works then you must take everything Paul wrote out of the Bible. In fact, exclude all of scripture as a whole if we are justified by our behavior then no one will be saved.
I dont like this. The Church teaches faith is justified by works! Adopting a Protestant attitude to seem more ‘reasonable’, helps no one.

The Church speak of initial Justification
This is Christ forgiveness for our sin, and it is only by this forgiveness that we may be saved.
To enter this state does require repentance, faith and Baptism though obedience but it is Christ forgiveness and only that that make us righteous.
However to remain in that state of Grace we must do good works
Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (James 2:17)
And we must not be deceived into thinking we are righteous without doing good.
Little children, let no one deceive you. He who does right is righteous, as he is righteous. (1 John 3:7)

Here's what Catholics need to understand that it is impossible and this is a matter of faith. It is impossible for you to believe that Jesus Christ died for our salvation and not have works be a result of that faith. Our faith in Christ completely transforms us and our works on this planet. So no I don't believe that Good Works makes you saved. I believe it has nothing to do with works it's our faith in Christ and Christ alone and good works will come. They will come because nobody in the right mind will have that kind of faith and not have their actions transformed on this planet.
We are Saved by Grace alone and Good Works with always be a sign of our Faith in Christ Jesus.
So Catholics need to understand about us Protestants is that we don't believe that good works are not a factor in our salvation. No rather we believe that good works are a result of our salvation. They are the proof of our salvation. Because if you truly believe in Christ Jesus with all of your heart you will now become a new creation You actions will be transformed how you approach people will be transformed You will become aware of your own sin and your good works will flow through you because of your grace and salvation.

There simply is no Catholic "understanding" regarding works...NONE of whom know how many works are enough nor what they consist of. Do you REALLY think God wants you to be in confusion about salvation? Why not simply BELIEVE GOD"S TESTIMONY..which says one can KNOW one HAS eternal life????
So just to clarify 1 things. In Catholic theology to go to Heaven its not about doing a certain works. The point is how you live throughout your Christian Life. The works consist of morally good that are done by our own will fueled and sustained through the Grace of God.

4:00 he's confusing justification with sanctification. I agree we were made for good works, but gradually becoming a better more Christly person is sanctification, not justification. You don't "grow" in justification because it is a one time irreveraible switch flip. To be justified is to be declared righteous.
4:15 James' point is Abraham and Rahab PROVED their faith by their works, he says right there Abraham's faith is what justified him. He's using them as examples of people of faith who ALSO did works as evidence of their faith. He's writing specifically to combat people who claim faith but continue living sinful lives with no discernable change in behavior. Big difference. If there are THREE kinds of justification, why does no Apostle ever say that?
