Saved by Grace through Faith, Not by Works

  • Saved by Grace through Faith and not by Works is a long standing disagreement between Catholic and Protestants with regard to justification and salvation. So what are we to make of this? What does the Bible say?
As with everything in scripture, the context is always key.
As Dr. Pitre will show, when Paul speaks of being saved through faith, it is with regard to people's initial justification by being made right with God and grafted into the Body of Christ (usually through Baptism) fas opposed to when they were not part of the Body of Christ.
And, when Paul (and for that matter Jesus in the Gospels and St. James in his epistle) speak of salvation by works, it is always after the initial justification and being made righteous (either during this life and/or at the end of time in the final judgment).
Watch this video and be sure to pay close attention to Paul's context: When are we saved by grace through faith? At the point of initial justification (which is completely gratuitous on God's part), when we are initially made righteous (typically through Baptism, the sacrament of dying and rising to new life for Paul). And, when are we saved or justified through works? After we are part of the Body of Christ in the context of our final justification at our final judgment and/or to maintain communion in the body of Christ so as to not be "cut down" or cut off as Jesus tells us in Matthew 7 and John 15.

Well isn't that backwards. You are saved by faith, not of works, lest any man should boast. So are you saved by showing up to mass? Are you saved by going to confession? No! You are saved by FAITH that God alone can and will save you if you humble yourself enough to let him!

I remember being in church being awed by the nondenominational speaker up front expounding on the gospel . A good speaker puts life into the word just like Jesus did when He taught on the sabbath. Question is ,is the speaker telling the truth of the word or teaching what he was taught? I see Dr Pitre as teaching what he was taught . A lot of what he was taught is true but some of it is false. Check the scriptures and don't believe the excuse that Jesus gave us the church, not a book . 2 Tim 3:15-17 refers to the old testament but Paul tells Timothy that he is fully equipped. Acts 17:11 very difficult to do if you go beyond what is written.

As a current Lutheran, it's good to hear the Good News is being revived within the Roman Catholic Church, though it still brings pain that 500yrs ago there was a refusal to discuss the issues at hand.
*PS it's also interesting how 'lutheran' many learned Roman apologists and teachers sound; though as the point was made in the video there are others who believe/teach contrary to the church and that will be what many focus on, to heighten the division on both sides. And of course we all know that division is sin (Galatians 5:20) and so still today the devil is working against unity in every way he knows how.

The Book of Truth contains messages that attack the Vicar of Christ, therefore it is not an inspiration coming from the Holy Spirit but an obvious deceptions coming from Satan.
      Read Matthew16:19 and Luke22:32 .
Jesus entrusted the Keys and promised His powerful protection to Peter.

Nope! But Satan very well known tactics is to present FAKE NEWS! as a way of deceiving even the faithfuls, how?
Satan in the Garden of Eden present "half-truth" to Eve to deceive her.
Satan also are deceiving believer like you and your group by presenting Truth mix with lies. Truth mix with lies comes from Satan and not from the Holy Spirit.
      PROOF?
Will the Holy Spirit inspire a visionary to attack the dignity of the Vicar of Christ? NO! and definitely NO!.
So, who inspire the visionary of the Book of Truth to attack the Vicar of Christ? Holy Spirit or Satan?

FAITH ALONE IS A BIG PROTESTANT MISTAKE AND A SATANIC MARTIN LUTHER'S DOCTRINE. DON'T FORGET MARTIN LUTHER SAID THE DEVIL WAS TALKING TO HIM AND LUTHER WAS SO USED BY THE EVIL THAT WAS ATTAKING THE JESUS CHURCH, LEFT THE TO BECAME AN ANTICHRIST AS TELL US 1 JOHN 2, 18-19, MARKS 9, 38-40 AND ACTS 9, 1-5. LUTHER ALSO CREATED EVIL DOCTRINE AS FAITH ALONE AND MANY OTHERS, ALSO FORMED A WAR, INQUISITION, KILLED PERSONS AND EVEN SUICIDED OR KILLED HIMSELF EXACTLY AS JUDE THE TRAITOR.
LOOK HERE WHY FAITH ALONE IS EVIL. EPHESIANS 2, 8-9 TELLS US THAT WE'RE NOT SAVED BY WORKS. AS TELL US JOHN 3, 16-21. SO GOD LOVE THE WORLD THAT GAVE HIS ONLY ONE SON TO SAVE US. SO WE'RE SABED BY GOD'S MERCY AS A GIFT GIVEN TO US AND NOT SOMETHING WE WON, BUT WE'RE SAVED TO DO GOOD WORKS AS TELL THE SAME EPHESIANS 2 IN THE VERSE 10 THAT PROTESTANTS DON'T READ OR DON'T UNDERSTAND. ALSO JAMES IS A BOOK THAT MARTIN LUTHER WANTED TO QUIT OF BIBLE BECAUSE JAMES 2, 14- 26 TELL US THAT FAITH ALONE IS EMPTY AND CAN'T SAVE, ALSO SAYS FAITH ALONE IS LIKE DEMONS FAITH, THEY BELIEVE AND KNOWS GOD IS POWERFUL, BUT DON'T DO GOD'S GOOD WORKS. ALSO MATTHEW 25, 31-46 TELL US THAT WHO DON'T DO GOOD WORKS WILL BE SENT TO HELL. JUST READ HERE: WE WERE SAVED BY GRACE IN PAST AND NOT FOR WORKS, BUT TO DO GOOD WORKS IN PRESENT AND FUTURE. Ephesians 2,5-10
[5]even when we were dead in our sins, has enlivened us together in Christ, by whose grace you have been saved.
[6]And he has raised us up together, and he has caused us to sit down together in the heavens, in Christ Jesus,
[7]so that he may display, in the ages soon to arrive, the abundant wealth of his grace, by his goodness toward us in Christ Jesus.
[8]For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not of yourselves, for it is a gift of God.
[9]And this is not of works, so that no one may glory.
[10]For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has prepared and in which we should walk.
      James 2,14-26
[14]My brothers, what benefit is there if someone claims to have faith, but he does not have works? How would faith be able to save him?
[15]So if a brother or sister is naked and daily in need of food,
[16]and if anyone of you were to say to them: "Go in peace, keep warm and nourished," and yet not give them the things that are necessary for the body, of what benefit is this?
[17]Thus even faith, if it does not have works, is dead, in and of itself.
[18]Now someone may say: "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without works! But I will show you my faith by means of works.
[19]You believe that there is one God. You do well. But the demons also believe, and they tremble greatly.
[20]So then, are you willing to understand, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
[21]Was not our father Abraham justified by means of works, by offering his son Isaac upon the altar?
[22]Do you see that faith was cooperating with his works, and that by means of works faith was brought to fulfillment?
[23]And so the Scripture was fulfilled which says: "Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice." And so he was called the friend of God.
[24]Do you see that a man is justified by means of works, and not by faith alone?
[25]Similarly also, Rahab, the harlot, was she not justified by works, by receiving the messengers and sending them out through another way?
[26]For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
      Matthew 25,31-46
[31]But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty, and all the Angels with him, then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.
[32]And all the nations shall be gathered together before him. And he shall separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
[33]And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right, but the goats on his left.
[34]Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right: 'Come, you blessed of my Father. Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
      [35]For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
[36]naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.'
[37]Then the just will answer him, saying: 'Lord, when have we see you hungry, and fed you; thirsty, and given you drink?
[38]And when have we seen you a stranger, and taken you in? Or naked, and covered you?
[39]Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit to you?'
[40]And in response, the King shall say to them, 'Amen I say to you, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, you did it for me.'
[41]Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left: 'Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
      [42]For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;
[43]I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not cover me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.'
[44]Then they will also answer him, saying: 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?'
[45]Then he shall respond to them by saying: 'Amen I say to you, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.'
[46]And these shall go into eternal punishment, but the just shall go into eternal life." ruclips.net/channel/UCRT7jcpX9kOtrlwhyV9X30A

Martin Luther conversations with the devil.
Martin Luther had a preoccupation with the devil and the bathroom that is disgusting. Even protestant scholars have noted that Luther's fascination with crude subjects is disquieting. He admittedly had much interaction with the devil.
"These demons would haunt the imagination of luther who had visions, which he believed to be actual physical occurrences, of the devil hurling excrement at him and his hurling it back. Indeed in one of his many anal combats with the devil in which luther would challenge the devil to lick his posterior, luther thought the best tactic might be to throw him into my anus were he belongs"
Reference: H.W. Crocker, Triumph, Roseville CA: Prima publishing, 2001, p.237.
Luther claims he came up with justification by faith alone while he was on the toilet. He claims that it came as
"knowledge the holy spirit gave me on the privy in the tower".
Reference: quoted in William manchester, a world lit only by fire, the medieval mind and the renaissance little brown and co,1993 p 140. In fact, Luther's idea that people needed to commit real and "honest sins, seems to have originated from a conversation with the devil.
Luther said " when I woke up last night, the devil came and wanted to debate with me, he rebuked and reproached me, arguing that I was a sinner, to this I replied, tell me something new devil, I already know that perfectly well, I have committed many a solid and real real sin. Indeed there must be good honest sins"
      Luther said in 1542:
"That epistle of James gives us much trouble, for the papists embrace it alone and leave out all the rest.Up to this point I have been accustomed just to deal with and interpret it according to the rest of Scriptures. For you will judge that none of it must be set forth contrary to manifest Holy Scripture.Accordingly, if they will not admit my interpretations, then I shall make rubble also of it.I almost feel like throwing Jimmy(james epistle) into the stove, as the priest in Kalenberg did."
The demon possessed heretic protestant founder martin luther said he wanted to throw the book of james out of the bible because he is having trouble explaining his heretic teaching of sola fida or faith alone
      Faith Without Works Is Dead
      James 2:14-17
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[b] is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
      JAMES 2:26
26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
As you can see the bible clearly refutes his heretical views.
Not only did the heretic founder of Protestantism want to throw books out of the bible he also started adding words to the bible example, martin luther even added the word alone to Romans 3:28 of his German translation of the bible, he made it say faith alone when the original didn't say that.
Martin Luther also said and I quote.
"A MAN COULD COMMIT FORNICATION AND MURDER 1,000 TIMES A DAY AND NOT LOSE HIS JUSTIFICATION"
He said this to express his doctrine of justification by faith alone: that is, no matter how much a person sins, he is still saved as long as he believes (by faith alone). In the same context, he declared: “be a sinner and sin boldly.”
The authenticity of these quotes is not disputed, but openly admitted by Protestant defenders of Luther.
This is shockingly evil, This is a grave heretic evil satanic teaching, the filthy dog luther is encouraging people to sin, this is against the teachings of Jesus and against the bible. Example,
      Hebrews 10:26
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Do you see that protestant heretics , it says no more sacrifice for sins.
So you see martin luther position is of a satanic man.
Even the great saint Paul him self the apostle of Jesus Christ, believed if he sinned he would be cast to hell. Example,
      1 Corinthians 9:27
27 but I pommel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
SAINT Paul is saying that he beats himself up, so he doesn't sin and end up in hell.
The word saint Paul uses for disqualified is the greek word adokimos, which means hell.

"Thus says The Lord: Because My servants are slow to discern and yet resist My will, seeking rather their own way, choosing always to fulfill their own wants and desires, I shall speak once again.
Beloved ones, how is it that each of you yet resist the other, and this on account of your own selfishness? The hour is late, the sun is setting below the horizon, and still I see no union. I see no sincere compassion; only pretense is brought forth, a vain attempt to hide from others that which remains lacking within yourselves.
Beloved ones, stop lying to yourselves! When you come before Me, bring no pretense, nor make empty supplications while your hearts remain far removed. For I am He who sees, your Redeemer who knows. Rather make honesty your companion, and integrity your close friend, as it is written.[1] Beloved, call upon Me in sincerity and in truth, with a heart willing to do whatsoever I ask of you, eager to go wheresoever I send you. For again, I tell you, whatsoever you do for another you have done for Me. And when you forsake even the least of these, My beloved, you have forsaken Me.[2]
Therefore, love is the chief matter; love is your reason for being, even as I am. Or have you so quickly forgotten this wisdom given to My servant, Sha’ul (also known as Paul)?... “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, yet am void of love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy and many mysteries have been uncovered before my eyes, having received great knowledge, and though I receive the fullness of trust by which even mountains are removed, yet am void of love, I am nothing. And though I give away my goods to feed the poor, even everything I own, and though I willingly give up my body to the fiery furnace, yet am void of love, I have accomplished nothing.
For love is long-suffering and tender-hearted. Love does not envy. Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up, but remains humble. Love does not behave rudely, does not seek its own way, is not easily provoked, but forgives and keeps no record of past wrongs. Love does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices always in the truth. Love bears up and holds fast to that which is good; always hopes, always trusts, and is willing to endure all things. Love never fails.
Yet prophecies will cease and tongues will grow silent; the knowledge of men will vanish away. For now we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when The Perfect comes then that which is in part will be no longer. For when I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child and I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know, even as I am known.”
For three things abide, and are most needful:
      Trust, hope and love...
Yet the greatest of these is love[3]...
      Says The Lord YahuShua."
      ~
"My sons, treat those of My body as you wish to be treated. Consider not what tomorrow may bring, nor dwell on that which has passed; embrace them as they are in this moment. For the one who stands in front of you is the person they are today. For who they were yesterday has passed away, and the person they will become tomorrow is not yet revealed. For you know not what tomorrow brings, nor do you truly know that which has passed. You know neither the heart or the mind, nor are you able to search the thoughts or look upon the innermost intentions. Therefore, treat all My beloved as you would treat Me. Embrace your brothers and sisters in Messiah as you would embrace Me, walking with Me as I am and not as you would have Me be.
      For it is written:
According to the judgment with which
You judge shall you be judged,
And with the measure you use
Shall it be measured back to you...
Yet the servant who walks with Me
      Moment by moment, treating their
Brother or sister as they wish to be treated,
      Shall walk free, unhindered...
Their every reasonable service becoming a labor of love...
      Says The Lord."

@Charles PietersTo dedicate {the life of} an infant to the Lord is not wrong That is true there is no wrong in dedicating a baby to the Lord where it becomes wrong is the Catholic churches belief that the unbaptized child will somehow end up in Limbo or any other place but heaven. All baptisms of anyone in the new testament had confession of sins , repentance and full immersion . "Entire household" would also follow the examples given in other verses. Babies or children under the age of accountability were not baptized as they could not repent or confess their sins .

Great job as always. As a convert who spent my first 50 years in the Protestant world and converted on 3.31.2018 at age 51, TWO of my favorite Catechism references are ... Paragraph 1989 The first work of the grace of the Holy Spirit is conversion, effecting justification in accordance with Jesus' proclamation at the beginning of the Gospel: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Moved by grace, man turns toward God and away from sin, thus accepting forgiveness and righteousness from on high. "Justification is not only the remission of sins, but also the sanctification and renewal of the interior man. Paragraph 432 The name "Jesus" signifies that the very name of God is present in the person of his Son, made man for the universal and definitive redemption from sins. It is the divine name that alone brings salvation, and henceforth all can invoke his name, for Jesus united himself to all men through his Incarnation, so that "there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

AMÉN BROTHER! WELCOME TO REAL CHURCH! KEEP SHARING YOUR GREAT TESTIMONY. GOD BLESS 😊🙏
We must be careful with those heresies that want to discard the church and make follow these so-called superheroes. You have to study about the first church and then see why there are 66,000 protestants sects. The Bible is clear in Matthew 16, 16-19. Jesus founded his church and it is indestructible... it's logical that it is the Catholic, the others go with the heretic Martin Luther. A traitor to the church who betrayed JESUS like Jude and ended up hanging himself just like Jude, who betrays the church, betrays Christ because the church is so important that it is the body of Christ. Ephesians 5, 23. 1 Corinthians 12, 12-28. Whoever leaves the church is not a Christian, he is an antichrist. 1 John 2, 18-19. John 17, 21 clearly says that JESUS wants unity and not sect divisions. Ephesians 3, 21 we must give glory to God forever in his church, which is the pillar and base of the truth. 1 Timothy 3, 15. We should not listen to those who come with new doctrines or stray from God. 2 John 1, 8-11. Galatians 1, 6-10.
      Isaiah 56.10-11
[10] His guardians are all blind, none of them know anything. They are all stupid dogs, incapable of barking. They would lie down, they would like to doze.
[11] Those voracious dogs are never satisfied, and they are the shepherds! They do not know how to discern, each one takes his way, all, until the end, in pursuit of his own benefit.
Protestant sects are neither evangelical nor Christian. Only the Catholic Church is truly Christian and evangelical. The others claim to be evangelical, but they are not. Example: The Gospel of John 6, 48-71 says that JESUS truly dwells in consecrated bread and wine, but Protestants deny the real presence and only say that it is a symbol. The Gospel of John never says it is a symbol. As John 20, 21-23 and James 5, 16 JESUS gives his church the power to forgive sins, Protestants say no, that they do not confess and that men cannot forgive sins and therefore contradict Christ and the word of God. John 2, 1 says that Mary intercedes even when JESUS has no plans to perform a miracle, Protestants contradict the gospel and say no. John 17, 20-26: Be one as the father and I are one, be united, but the Protestants separated from the church and among them are divided into more than 66,000 sects. John 19, 26-27 It says that JESUS gave his mother Mary as a mother to his disciple John and equal to the church, she is a spiritual mother. Protestants say no. Matthew 16, 18-19 JESUS gave Peter authority over the other apostles and left him as the main leader of the church, as pope, father or leader. Like Isaiah 22, 20-22, it says that when a king gives the keys to his servant who becomes the father of the community, JESUS is the king of kings and his community is the church, that is why the Catholic church has a pope. In Matthew 25, 31-46 JESUS criticizes very strongly those who do not do works for others, and Protestants criticize the Catholic Church because it teaches that good works should be done. Protestants teach that we are saved only by grace, when in truth we were saved in the past, JESUS gave himself on the cross by grace and saved us, but to do good works. Ephesians 2, 8-10. The key is in verse 10 that they do not read and in another book that Luther tried to eliminate because this agrees with the Catholic Church doctrine and contradicts that evil heresy. That book is James because in chapter 2, 14-26 it says that faith without works is dead faith and ask. Can that faith save you without works? Even stronger is what Jesus will say about works on the day of judgment. Matthew 25, 31-46.
Baptism, Galatians 3, 27 says that through baptism we give ourselves to Christ and JESUS said let the children come to me and do not prevent it. 1 Peter 3, 21 also says that through baptism we are saved ... because as Galatians 3, 27 says through it we give ourselves to CHRIST !! He also says that it does not consist of bathing to clean the body in a river or beach, that was the baptism of John the Baptist and it is over. So the protestants prevent children from reaching Christ and deny them salvation.
This is only a summary of the gospels, if we had to be other topics in the apostolic letters, we will also see other contradictions of the Protestants with the gospel of JESUS CHRIST! The cross, moving to another faith, prayer to the dead, purgatory, repeated prayers, the images, say that Mary had more children, they say that the bible is the truth and the bible itself says that the CHURCH is the pillar and foundation of the Truth 1 Timothy 3, 15. They say that it does not matter to be in any church, etc. Quite the opposite of what the word of God teaches!

    1) God’s GRACE builds the ladder/way in Christ without which salvation is impossible; 2) FAITH makes us believe and confess that this way through which we have to walk to reach heaven; with the WAY already built and our direction clear, 3) WORKS are like the walk necessary to complete our journey on this path in the right direction, and becoming better and better on our way. In other words, God’s gift is there. Do you recognize it? Or do you scoff at it? Even if you recognize it, do you take it and cherish it? Or do you throw it down the drain? That is Catholicism.

@Sonia K: Re your "This should be shouted from the rooftops!"
      Absolutely! 100% spot on!
However (and this I've said umpteen times before on YT) I really, really wish that our priests would work these important topics into the homilies. The priest should point out these critical doctrinal teachings that are unique to the Roman Catholic Church.
Unfortunately, what we do get is a 7-minute homily that feels like it's 70 minutes loooong!
Another point that I've often made is that we Roman Catholics are truly blessed by the quality converts from non-Roman Catholic Christianity: Drs. Scott Hahn, Peter Kreeft, Steven Ray, Marcus Grodi are just a few that come to mind. I don't know for sure whether Dr. Pitre is a convert too - I think he is. These worthies bring a wealth of Biblical scholarship that is extensive, intensive and inspired.
Cradle Catholics - on the other hand - are tepid in their faith because they take it for granted! "I was born and raised Catholic, and I I'll die Catholic... so don't try to teach me anything about Catholicism" is a common dialogue one hears from cradle Catholics. Too bad!
Anyway, your exhortation to "shout it from the rooftops" is excellent indeed. Amen.

Protestants err in thinking that Catholics believe we must do good works to "earn" our salvation. But Catholics believe that our salvation is something to "work out" - not work for. Our justification is an on-going process from the time we are baptized (Eph 2:8-10).

I agree 100%. Redemption is the one time Christ died to ransom our sins and open the gate of heaven. Salvation is the process, the narrow gate, take up the cross Etc... Mathew 25: 31-46. God Bless.

@@Dannyboy0202 Just because someone has not sinned does not entitle them to a place in Heaven. Adam was kicked out of the garden. We are his heirs. His sin broke the covenant with God, so we are not born into a covenant. We have to be called into a new covenant by Christ and enter it through Him in baptism.

      @@tony and @ Daniel o
where does it say/s that infant baptism is not biblical or baptism is only for adults when it says on the other verse/s in the bible that baptism is applicable to all including infants:
In continuation to The Reaction reply, I'll copy paste this commentary:
Christ’s law applies to infants as well as adults, for Jesus said that no one can enter heaven unless he has been born again of water and the Holy Spirit (John 3:5). His words can be taken to apply to anyone capable of belonging to his kingdom. He asserted such even for children: “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:14).
Now, Fundamentalists say this event does not apply to young children or infants since it implies the children to which Christ was referring were able to approach him on their own. (Older translations have, “Suffer the little children to come unto me,” which seems to suggest they could do so under their own power.) Fundamentalists conclude the passage refers only to children old enough to walk, and, presumably, capable of sinning.
But the text in Luke 18:15 says, “Now they were bringing even infants to him” (Greek, Prosepheron de auto kai ta brepha). The Greek word brepha means “infants”-children who are quite unable to approach Christ on their own and who could not possibly make a conscious decision to “accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.” And that is precisely the problem. Fundamentalists refuse to permit the baptism of infants and young children, because they are not yet capable of making such a conscious act. But notice what Jesus said: “to such as these [referring to the infants and children who had been brought to him by their mothers] belongs the kingdom of heaven.” The Lord did not require them to make a conscious decision. He says that they are PRECISELY the kind of people who can come to him and receive the kingdom.

      [35]For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
[36]naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.'
      [42]For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;

Evangelical Reformed Protestant here. I appreciate this channel the little I've started listening, it is good to hear a priest teaching out of scripture. I'm mostly very encouraged and just a little cautious after listening. Like at 11:00 I hear an inconsistency. I love that you clearly say grace for salvation is a gift not according to works as Ephesians 2:8-9 states, but you use verse 10 to say that works have a role in salvation rather than saying it is an outworking of that salvation. I didn't catch you defining what that role would be, which I wonder if that approach is why some Catholics have gone Pelagian. I find Calvin's one-liner in The Antidote to the Council of Trent helpful: "We are justified by faith alone, but this faith that justifies is never alone".
I'm thankful for the caution you brought to fellow Catholics regarding Pelagiansim and semi-Pelagianism. Keep it up!

The problem with Calvin's 'But faith is never alone " is it is essentially the same as Catholicism and interestingly Arminism. Practically the result is the same. You need your works to show you have a real faith . Without works your not saved . Arminism in the extreme may say works keep your faith . Calvernism is problematic because what if you start to sin ? " oh I might not be saved ( not be an elect chosen one ) how do you know that your works are enough works and the right kind ?

The role of works is the result of faith unto Christ. You're nit picking exactly how protestants do.
Everything Dr. Pitre has stated does not go against this. So why would this one word "sole" change that?
You're taking "sole" in a different manner.
Now if he used "sole" and started to use it as you think he is, fir the rest of his teachings, then you would be correct on how he used the word. But he clearly did not.
So is it Dr. Pitre who misused the word "sole", or is it you who took it out of context?

Faith is obedience and trust. It requires one to conform himself to Christ. Refusing to accept grace and rejecting Christ's commands is a sign of being a goat. We reject pelagian heresy as well as the heresy that denies free will.

He briefly touched on it by implication: the gospel Paul was talking about in his letter to Timothy is clearly a gospel that was preached, not written.
There's so much that can be covered on Sola Scriptura but I think the most important idea is that the Word of God is not only what is written, it is Jesus Christ Himself, the incarnation, and his words and deeds. I really hope he does do a video on it.

    • @renjithjoseph7135
      @renjithjoseph7135 4 года назад +2

@tony why do you think the "Word of Truth" is only what is written? As I said, Jesus *IS* the Word made flesh and he didn't write anything down that was then passed on.
I never said scripture can be refuted. I said Sola Scriptura will be refuted if it is addressed by Dr Pitre.
If the first century Jews had believed in Sola Scriptura, Christianity wouldn't exist.
Only a small portion of the population could read until general education was a thing. Why would God make it so that most people wouldn't be able to exercise this holy practice of reading the Scriptures? Every time Paul mentions "the gospel", it's so unbelievably clear he's talking about what is preached and not what only what is written.
If Sola Scriptura was true, it would be found irrefutably in the Bible and Catholics would be the strongest proponents of it.
By the way, who gave you your Bible? Who discerned and organised the Canon? Hint: we did.
We both say the Bible is infallible. But it is only of use if there is an infallible interpreter. Otherwise, you get all the Protestant (and other) denominations who claim to be the true Church based on their own interpretation.

In today's time period, which is called the church age, salvation definitely is by grace through faith and not of works, because it is a gift from God, lest anyone should boast.
Roms 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Eph 2:13 says - In whom ye also trusted, after that ye had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:in whom also after that ye believed, ye were saved with the Holy Spirit of promise. - - this means that no sacrament is needed to be saved.
Romans 10:9 says - that is you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (again no sacrament is needed)
1 Cor. 15:1-4 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also you received and wherein you stand; By which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; And that He was buried and rose again the 3rd day according to the Scriptures:
Apostle Paul says Rom 1:16; For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God for salvation to every one that believed; to the Jews first, and also to the Greek.
Above verses shows sacrament is not needed for salvation in today's time period called the church age. All who are saved by the gospel of Jesus Christ belongs to the body of Christ.
Prayer for the dead is even not needed when a person is saved. Hebrews 9:27 says so (And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment). This verse clearly shows that there is no purgatory.
Doing good works after a person is saved is to glorify God in his body.

Yes, and so we can be clear with our fellow Christians, James is obviously speaking of "post-initial-justification" (he assumes faith is present), which is utterly free. Only after that do our works (i.e., good and evil deeds or lack thereof) come into play with regard to our final justification.
This is why St. James does not contradict but is in perfect lockstep with Paul and Jesus. All three affirm the same reality.
It seems that by not paying attention to the context of who James, Jesus or Paul is speaking to ([a] pre-believers or a specific time when believers were pagans/un-believers and [b] believers) does the confusion set in as to how justification (whether initial or final) is accomplished and how works factor in.
      Thanks for your comments.

The title of the book sounds like it is about judaizing Paul and Christianity. Why call Paul a jew when he was a Christian and belonged to the Catholic Church? After his conversion, Paul was a jew only by heritage, not by religion. The law of Moses was nullified by the death of Christ and Paul ceased to practice it after his conversion. In 2 Thessalonians, Paul says that the jews killed Christ, persecute Christians, prevent Christians from talking to gentiles, are displeasing to God and are enemies of the human race.

@@anthonypuccetti8779 As for everything, context is important. They called Paul a Jew because he was a Jew by his own autobiographical statement: "I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew." - Romans 11:1-2
Being a Jew is different from practicing Judaism seemed to be the distinction in the book. It also has much more good stuffs to say about St. Paul. I can only recommend the book if someone want to know what the authors had in mind.

    • @anthonypuccetti8779
      @anthonypuccetti8779 4 года назад

@@ericgatera7149 I knew that Paul called himself a Jew, but that could only refer to his being brought up under the law of Moses. The Jews of scripture were the people who observed the law of Moses, which was given by God. The law was not called Judaism or even the Jewish religion. It was not about preserving and celebrating ethnic heritage. It was centered on animal sacrifice in atonement for the sins of the people. Judaism, properly speaking, is the Talmudic antichristian religion that developed after the destruction of the temple and the Jewish priesthood in 70 AD.
If the author of the book suggests that being a Jew is different from practicing the Jewish religion, he is using a modern concept of what it is to be a Jew: someone of Jewish parentage and culture. Modern Jews can be atheists or Buddhists and still be accepted as Jews. Jewish has become an ethnic identity, apart from religion, even though Jews are not of one ethnic group and most of them are not descended from the ancient Hebrews but are of European descent. What they all have in common is rejection of Christ and baptism. In the gospels, especially that of John, and in the Acts of the Apostles and in some letters of Paul, "the Jews" are usually spoken of as rejecters of Christ and enemies of his followers and his Church, which is the Catholic Church, and of all people. That is the proper Catholic view of "the Jews". They are distinguished from the apostles and other believers in Christ, even though the apostles and most of the early believers in Christ were Jews. Before the second half of the 20th century, Catholics didn't say in defense of Jews, "Jesus and Mary and the apostles were Jews" or emphasize the Jewishness of Jesus or the "Jewish roots" of Christianity, as if Christian religion grew out of Jewish religion. This is a judaizing trend that needs to be stopped.

@@anthonypuccetti8779 I think it is useful in the sense of understanding the second temple 1st century context. It is also useful because some anti Christians accuse Christianity of "cultural appropriation" of Judaism which is completely absurd. Therefore, it is useful to understand the context, to remember that Paul etc were Jewish (or Israelite if that term is preferable) because this shows that post destruction of the temple Rabbinical Judaism is different from the earlier period, and it also refutes their (current Rabbincal Judaism) claim to have a monopoly on the scriptures. Therefore, I think it is of utility to have a strong grasp of that context because it helps refute such accusations and that is the rationale of Pitre conveying the Jewish context. He does state in his other work I've read that ancient and second temple Judaism is different from later Rabbincal Judaism, and Catholicism is rooted in the former not the latter. I think some who are not aware can get confounded when they hear from present day Jews saying that Christians interpret things wrong as they assume that Rabbinical Judaism is the exact same as that in the 1st century AD pre destruction of the temple, and this causes them to doubt. Obviously Christianity is NOT rooted in the later Rabbincal Judaism or with those that did not accept Jesus.

Rom 2:6 says “For he will render to every man according to his works.” However St. Paul says in 1 Cor 3:15, “If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.” What does this mean then? Are we saved by faith alone? No matter how long it takes and by enduring ‘fire’, we will still be saved and not lose our salvation by our works if we have faith. Is this true? However, "being created for good works" does not mean the works we perform in any way add to our salvation. As stated by James, our works "show" our faith to others and that our faith has demonstratively changed our life. In short, actions speak louder than words.

    • @anthonypuccetti8779

Good works have merit toward salvation. James did not only say that our works show our faith to others and that our faith has demonstratively changed our life. He also said: "Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only?" ,and, "For even as the body without the spirit is dead; so also faith without works is dead."
And James did not teach that we should show off our works to others to be justified before them. That is worthless self-justification and contrary to what Jesus taught about how we should not do good in order to be seen and praised. When James said a man is justified by works, he was talking about justification before God.

What are the "merits" that good works provide toward salvation? Per Scripture, good works are but filthy rags before the Lord. That doesn't sound very meritorious at all.
Christ himself stated that the only work God wants us to do is to believe in his Son. Also, I never said or even implied that we do good works as a means of self-justification or aggrandisement. That is not Jame's point either. Good works "show" that we are followers of Christ and, as such, our actions demonstarte our faith and may possibly influence other people to do the same. I can say that I have faith in Christ but that statement can be a shallow or insincere declaration. Good works are a means that demonstrate my changed life. Christ's perfect sacrifice provided the grace for our justification which we recieve by having faith in Him. Works have nothing to do with justification. Works simply show that our faith in Christ is real, sincere and authentic. The Bible states, over and over again, that we are saved by faith. That is also Jame's point. He says to live our faith by doing good works. Mb

@@timmcvicker5775 The merits of good works are obedience, sacrifice, patience, perseverance, suffering, heroic virtue. These things are pleasing to God, so they are meritorious. He rewards people for them. The passage in Isaiah you refer to says: "And we are all become as one unclean, and all our justices as the rag of a menstruous woman: and we have all fallen as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." This is about the Jews of that time, not all humanity. The "justices" are the ceremonial works of the law of Moses, such as animal sacrifices, which the Jews practiced without practicing love of neighbor and justice and mercy. As God says in the first chapter of Isaiah: [13] Offer sacrifice no more in vain: incense is an abomination to me. The new moons, and the sabbaths, and other festivals I will not abide, your assemblies are wicked. [14] My soul hateth your new moons, and your solemnities: they are become troublesome to me, I am weary of bearing them. [15] And when you stretch forth your hands, I will turn away my eyes from you: and when you multiply prayer, I will not hear: for your hands are full of blood. [16] Wash yourselves, be clean, take away the evil of your devices from my eyes: cease to do perversely, [17] Learn to do well: seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge for the fatherless, defend the widow. >
So scripture does not teach that our good works are worthless. That is Calvin's heretical idea. Good works are commanded by God and they are done by his grace and he judges and rewards people according to them. So it is foolish to say that they are worthless. "Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil." (Isaiah 5: 20)

I never said or implied that our good works are worthless or not pleasing to God. God created us to do good works, to serve him and our fellow man. But works do not, and cannot, add to or supplement Christ's gift of salvation. By doing good works we praise and thank God for all He has done for us and thereby live and demonstrate our faith to others.
You have undoubtedly observed folks that are truly filled with God's spirit. And how did you know this? The answer is simple ... by observing them and what they did. Actions speak louder than words. They live their lives for Christ. Their faith in God is the most important thing in their lifes. But make no mistake, it is their faith that saves. Nothing else. By loving God they want to do good, to perform works, obey His commandments and perform merciful acts that please Him. They don't do works as a requirement or necessity to be justified before God but as a means to praise and celebrate all He has done for us.
I hope I am mistaken, but what you seem to fail to grasp or possibly understand is the sufficiency of Christ's death on the cross. John 3:16 summarizes the entire gospel message, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved." It does not say "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and perform good works and you shall be saved." Performing works is not a commandment or a requirement. But works are, in a manner, a by-product of our faith. Again, faith in Christ is the very purpose, meaning and foundation of the Good News.
Works show our faith. Works are something we want to do. Works honor and praise God. But faith is what saves through God's grace. It is a free gift and a gift is not something bestowed upon us for what we have done. A gift is given out of love. It is what God has done for us. By having faith and you cannot help but do good works. It becomes a part of you. This is what James 2 is all about.

"I never said or implied that our good works are worthless or not pleasing to God."
You did imply it. You said that according to scripture good works are but filthy rags before the Lord.
"But works do not, and cannot, add or supplement Christ's gift of salvation."
God commands us to do what is good with the warning that if we don't we will be damned. Doing what is good is necessary for salvation because he judges and rewards humans according to their works. Don't you get that? And salvation is not only a gift, it is a reward and an inheritance.
Matthew 25: [31] And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty. [32] And all nations shall be gathered together before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats: [33] And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left. [34] Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. [35] For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in: [36] Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.
Romans 2: [7] To them indeed, who according to patience in good work, seek glory and honour and incorruption, eternal life: [8] But to them that are contentious, and who obey not the truth, but give credit to iniquity, wrath and indignation. [9] Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek. [10] But glory, and honour, and peace to every one that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Colossians 3: 24 "Knowing that you shall receive of the Lord the reward of inheritance. Serve ye the Lord Christ."
Hebrews 1: 14 "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent to minister for them, who shall receive the inheritance of salvation?"
Where Paul says: "For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God", he was speaking of being saved from slavery to sin, which is initial justification, not eternal salvation in the kingdom of heaven. As Paul said earlier in the same chapter: [1] And you, when you were dead in your offences, and sins, [2] Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of this air, of the spirit that now worketh on the children of unbelief: [3] In which also we all conversed in time past, in the desires of our flesh, fulfilling the will of the flesh and of our thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

Well said Dr. Pitre! We cannot be saved by our own merits without God's grace, which allowed us to be saved through Jesus Christ. I think what causes confusion for people is when specific biblical passages are quoted by themselves without taking into consideration the entire bible (2 Timothy 3:15-17) and teachings of the Catholic Church (2 Thessalonians 2:14). For example, there are many things necessary for salvation that are mentioned in different parts of the bible, which include both faith and works. To add to your quote from Matthew 7, I also want to bring up Matthew 24:44-51 and Matthew 25:31-46 where Jesus states that works are necessary for salvation. Note: I read the Douay-Rheims 1899 version of the bible translated from the Latin Vulgate and that's where I read the passages I mentioned. The verses may be slightly different for other versions (e.g. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 for other versions).

DON'T FORGET MARTIN LUTHER SAID THE DEVIL WAS TALKING TO HIM AND LUTHER WAS SO USED BY THE EVIL THAT WAS ATTAKING THE JESUS CHURCH, LEFT THE TO BECAME AN ANTICHRIST AS TELL US1 JOHN 2, 18-19, MARKS 9, 38-40 AND ACTS 9, 1-5. LUTHER ALSOCREATED EVIL DOCTRINE AS FAITH ALONE AND MANY OTHERS, ALSOFORMED A WARN INQUISITION, KILLED PERSONS AND EVEN SUICIDED OR KILLED HIMSELF EXACTLY AS JUDE THE TRAITOR.
LOOK HERE WHY FAITH ALONE IS EVIL. EPHESIANS 2, 8-9 TELLS US THAT WE'RE NOT SAVED BY WORKS. AS TELL US JOHN 3, 16-21. SO GOD LOVE THE WORLD THAT GAVE HIS ONLY OBE SON TO SAVE US. SO WE'RE SABED BY GOD'S MERCY AS A GIFT GIVEN TO US AND NOT SOMETHING WE WON. BIT WE'RE SAVED TO DO GOOD WORKS AS TELL THE SAME EPHESIANS 2 I THE CERDE 10 THAT PROTESTANTS DON'T READ OR DON'T UNDERSTAND. ALSO JAMES IS A BOOK THAT MARTIN LUTJER WANTED TO QUIT OF BIBLE BECAUSE JAMES 2, 14- 26 TELL US THAT FAITH ALONE IS EMPTY AND CAN'T SAVE, ALSO SAYS FAITH ALONE IS LIKE DEMONS FAITHN THEY BELIEVE AND KNOWS GOD IS POWERFUL, BUT DON'T DO GOD'S GOOD WORKS.
      [35]For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
[36]naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.'
      [42]For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;

    People need to distinguish between
    1. Works done *before* the justification of the as-yet-unjustified sinner
    2. Works done *after* the justification of the now-justified sinner
    So:
    A. Justification is not based on the works of the as-yet-unjustified sinner, because the unjustified sinner is not yet in right standing with God. For Justification is what gives a sinner right standing with God.
    B. Justification is not based on the good works of the now-justified, because a state of justification that one is in already, cannot be based on itself, and does not need to be begun again.
Consequently, justification cannot be based on works; not even on meritorious good works done in and by the Grace of Christ the Head of His Body.
So it can have no basis but the grace of God.
Which is why Protestants insist on “salvation by grace alone” , and not by works as well.

God mercy saved us. This means "redemption or justification only" and not yet salvation. "Nothing defiled shall enter God's Kingdom".(Rev21:17)
Baptism only cleanses us of original sin but the stain still remain in our soul. Our soul still need purification here on earth, unless the stain is cleanse or remove we all cannot enter God's Kingdom...because our robe must be cleanse to be worthy to enter and share into the glory of God in Heaven.
Either we cleanse or purified our soul here on earth or we pass into purgatory to purify our soul.
"Saved by grace" means only redemption and not salvation. This is where Catholic Faith and some Protestant and most if not all Christian denominations differs.
Jesus Christ "sacrifice of His life" to redeemed us or saved us from slavery to sin and defeated the power of death. Jesus Christ is the Redeemer.
But "Salvation" is different from "Redemption"...St.Paul made a clear distinction by saying all of the redeemed must "work-out" his salvation in fear and trembling..this is where "good works" comes in. The formula Jesus had shown is "Obedience to the Will of the Father by embracing the Cross".
There is only one way for all the redeemed to gain salvation....it is called "The Way of the Cross".
Jesus Christ received the "anointing of the Holy Spirit" and became the Redeemer. Jesus Christ saved us or redeemed us.
Salvation means, all the redeemed must received the "anointing of the Holy Spirit" to empower us to follow what Jesus Christ had teach us in the gospel.
Jesus is the Way, and there is only one way, it is called "The Way of the Cross".
But, all the redeemed like Jesus needed a "Mother" in order to accomplished the Will of God the Father.
If we do not accept the role of Mary the Mother of all the Redeemed which Jesus gave At the Foot of the Cross John19:27..then as St.Pio had said we are fooling ourselves if we think we can climb Calvary and be crucified without the Maternal Mediation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Genesis3:15 is God's Holy Decree, in order to defeat Satan and the power of darkness we need the Maternal Mediation of the chosen Woman.
And Jesus is very clear on this before leaving the Apostles...Jesus said "I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU ORPHAN", and so, Jesus fulfilled His promised At the Foot of the Cross saying...."Son, BEHOLD your Mother". (John19:27)

    Pastors, Teachers and to all believers;
Be it known that the Lord burdened me to tell you the truth about SALVATION. There is a great debate among you as to how SALVATION can be achieved.
Some hold on to Ephesians 2:8-9.
    Ephesians 2:8-9
[8]For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9]Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    That is correct. Some of you hold on to ;
    Matthew 7:21
[21]Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
    Which is also correct.
Now let me tell you this you are both correct but you are also both wrong.
Now let me give this truth and I believe that I do not have to make further explaination because I know that after you recieve this truth the Holy Spirit Himself will guide you to the right understanding of these verses that you can apply it correctly into their proper places.
Salvation from Sin and being with the Lord in His kingdom ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
*FOR SALVATION FROM SIN is Ephesians 2:8-9 NO WORKS NEEDED.
*EVERLASTING LIFE WITH THE LORD IN HIS KINGDOM is Matthew 7:21, doing the will of the FATHER is needed.
    FAITH= SALVATION from SIN.
FAITHFULNESS = EVERLASTING LIFE WITH THE LORD IN HIS KINGDOM.
Man need to be saved first before he can be FAITHFUL.
ALL our good works is of no value to the LORD before we are born again. We need to be born again first, born in the spirit born from above. We need to be cleansed first by the blood of the Lamb. Everything a dirty hands touches also become dirty. The FLESH CAN NEVER
    PLEASE THE LORD; Romans 8:8
[8]So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. The FLESH also desires to please the Lord but, it can never please the Lord. CAIN offered to God but God was not pleased.
Pastors and Teachers teach this to your sheeps that they may remain FAITHFUL in their service to the LORD untill he comes.
JESUS IS COMMING SOON, at first Jesus came as a SAVIOUR and He finished His mission. Salvation is a free gift no works needed the moment you believe Jesus is the Christ the Son of the Living God, and you believed what He has done to save you from SIN you are saved indeed. You are then saved from the power of Sin. You are no longer a slave to SIN you can now serve God. You are now cleansed by the blood of the Lamb, so your service to God is now pleasing God. Salvation from Sin is for today while we still lived.
On the Last day Jesus will come again not as a SAVIOUR but as a JUDGE and God will judge us according to our deeds. Those who did evil into the lake of fire and those who did good unto heaven.
To be saved from Sin, it is only by grace through FAITH and not of works. We are GOD'S workmanship for good works but Sin separated us from God so we need to be redeemed first from SIN before we can do acceptable service to GOD.
To spend everlasting life with the LORD in His kingdom is another thing. Only the FAITHFULS and WELL DOERS those who DOES THE WILL OF THE FATHER WILL BE ALLOWED IN HEAVEN.
IMPORTANT POINT, IF YOU WORK FOR YOUR SALVATION YOU WILL GO TO HELL.
IF YOU WILL NOT DEPART FROM UNRIGHTEOUSNES AND BE FAITHFUL AND DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER AFTER YOU WERE SAVED YOU CAN NOT BE WITH THE LORD IN HIS KINGDOM.
Glory and praise be to God our FATHER and JESUS CHRIST our LORD and SAVIOUR AMEN.

There is just one big problem with his teaching. It is not in conformity with the biblical teaching that we are saved by faith in the blood spilled on Calvary. This is the core of the gospel and this man does not teach it. The BLOOD of Jesus atones for my sins. I have to confess my sins upon Jesus in order for this blood to be of use to me. So I cannot baptize a baby either, because a baby first has to confess their sins on the blood of Jesus to be justified. This is a total perversion of the gospel. God's gift of salvation is given through Jesus' who died for me on the cross. I must believe Jesus died for me on the cross, otherwise I have no savior from death.

So you don’t have to earn the “initial gift” of salvation, but your works post salvation will determine if you stay saved and whether or not you will go to heaven, right? If so, then works are still meritorious for salvation. It doesn’t matter if you make salvation conditional on the front end or the back end of conversion.

Thank you for yor detailed and insightful explanations.

That grace and faith are mandatory and that not just being a 'good' human is enough to save, Paul tells us, saying that all things apart from faith are a sin: *[[Rom **14:23**/NET]]* But the man who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not do so from faith, and whatever is not from faith is sin.

Faith is the free gift that Grace conveys. Faith is guidance which informs our deeds. If we follow that guidance we are justified. If not, our faith is dead and cannot save. Strive to do good, abstain from evil. How do we distinguish between good and evil? Faith informs. How do we get faith it is a free gift for the asking. Why is it free? It is free, because of the goodwill og God toward men, grace. If anyone lacks wisdom let him ask of God and receive faith from the source.

    VESTIGIA
    Poetry by Bliss Carman
I took a day to search for God,
And found Him not. But as I trod
By rocky ledge, through woods untamed,
Just where one scarlet lily flamed,
I saw His footprint in the sod.

    Then suddenly, all unaware,
Far off in the deep shadows, where
    A solitary hermit thrush
Sang through the holy twilight hush -
I heard His voice upon the air.

And even as I marvelled how
God gives us Heaven here and now,
In a stir of wind that hardly shook
The poplar leaves beside the brook -
His hand was light upon my brow.

At last with evening as I turned
Homeward, and thought what I had learned
And all that there was still to probe -
I caught the glory of His robe
Where the last fires of sunset burned.

Back to the world with quickening start
I looked and longed for any part
In making saving Beauty be …
    And from that kindling ecstasy
I knew God dwelt within my heart.
