  • Police say these movers quote low, but charge high once they pick up your stuff and hold it ransom for payment. We revisit customers from the last investigation and meet a new customer as she's reunited with her belongings. And wait until you see the dramatic footage of the arrests and our attempt to get answers from company bosses as they're released on bail. As the list of charges grows to the hundreds, we take you inside the bust.

It's a punishable act of stealing by force. Wonder if they would have done it in middle east countries or Turkey where the strict laws would actually fine them and convict them for longer periods of jail sentences. Western countries are a bit liberal in imparting Justice which gives crooks and scamsters like these with loopholes in the law for even such simple open and shut cases. I am from India BTW.

@@SIGMA_CENTRAL_IKON That's a good point. People in the West have been in a stable and prosperous, (therefore more law-abiding), culture for many decades. With the globalization and refugees all over, more cunning immigrants, (who had to be cunning to survive home country's dog-eat-dog world), could easily take advantage of the docile not-so-street-smart locals.

@@Birdylockso Well, I wouldn't support the far right fascist extremists or the extremists leftists. I prefer to be at the center of truth between both. You might have noted that these kind of petty crimes can be committed by anyone. My point was first to identify these unscrupulous dishonest scheming goons who hold innocent people at ransom of their rightfully owned property and then con them mercilessly. Second point was to make all observe that when you come from a country where laws against such conning and petty thefty crimes are strict, they shouldn't be doing it in another country where they've migrated legally. I myself am an Australian permanent resident but I never pick sides based on race creed caste religion and nationality. We are all migrated people and there are those who are indigenous people. ALL MUST BE RESPECTED AND TREATED EQUALLY. I believe this is what the both Canadian and Australian constitutions preach us as equal laws. I for myself found good and bad people amongst all communities. And sadly that includes my family as well. Very unfortunate but it's a brutal truth most people face nowadays.
Hope you are getting my point here. 👍

A relative of mine couldn't have had a more clear cut case. She paid in full for contents to go from point A to point B, local. Moving company took the full payment, cash, then refused to deliver the property. For months. Further, they did significant damage to her property (that we saw), did significant damage to the building, and stole Amazon packages (not property of my relative) and other items.
They refused to deliver the property, refused to respond to us by email or phone, refused to meet with us, refused to respond to a lawyer. The lawyer said it could take at least two years to get to court. IF police had acted, IF the law offered protection, she wouldn't have been left with little more than the clothes on her back.
A family "friend" tried to negotiate with the company illegally holding everything, and they demanded tens of thousands of dollars to compensate them for holding everything for many months.
The lawyer said to wait till it goes to court; the province did nothing, police did nothing, and local media said it's such a common occurrence, it's not newsworthy. Online reviews of the company show it's a common scam for the company. Zero consequences to the company, devastation for clients who paid in full and have a clear contract.

The moving companies know this, and have taken full advantage in a variety of ways.

I worked for a moving company and we did not charge according to some "industry average". The owner would go to the customer's premises personally and estimate the move. If it was a local move it went on and hourly rate and based on one truck and however many workers it took to accomplish the move. Non-local moves were estimated on weight and distance plus accessorials. The truck was taken to some public or private scale to get an empty weight and after loading the truck would get a loaded weight at the same scale.

I had this happen to me, I'm from Montreal and had movers take off call me on my cell saying if I wanted my stuff I needed to pay $2400. Or they were keeping my things for one month then auctioning it off. I too called the police but was told it was a civil matter. I'm sorry aren't the police supposed to help me. Am I not a civil person who pays taxes. After I broke down and my BF threatened them did the police get involved told the movers they would have to pay to store my things until 90 days. So they brought my things back at 11:30 at night dropped it all outside on the lawn where I had to be out the next day by noon. I stayed up all night outside in the cold so nobody would steal my things. The police should be ashamed for not helping. As for the mover crookes hope they get whats coming to them like these guys.
