I love squash! And I am a mid-sixties man learning how to cook out of necessity. I have tried every squash recipe I have found to get the crispy crunch and interior flavor of the squash. Today, I happened upon your recipe, and tried it tonight. It is my go-to from now on! I am going to add some onion and garlic powder, but other than that, it doesn't need more seasonings in my opinion. I have tried all the egg wash and flour and cornmeal recommendations with little to no luck. The "leave it alone for 15 min" was the trick I needed to get what I craved. I am also going to do okra the same way. Thanks so much!

I didn't come here to learn how to fry summer squash...I came here to listen to your voice. I was born & raised in Tennessee...met a beautiful red head from Maine & she kidnapped me and took me to the north. LOL. Six years ago she had a severe stroke and was unresponsive for 17 minutes. She & I spent the last six years teaching her how to talk, walk & eat by herself. Every now & then, I miss home and the voices of my mother & sisters coming from the kitchen. Sometimes we have no idea what grand things we do with such little effort. Thank you much & God bless.

This channel has some great simple recipes!! Your camera work is very helpful, like the viewer is right there looking over your shoulder as you go through the cooking process. Reminds me of another excellent channel awhile back on Great Depression cooking done by an elder who has since passed. Very valuable information!! So big thanks for sharing. You give a rationale about why for instance you dont need a batter because the squash itself has a kind of sap that causes the cornmeal mixture to stick if you let it sit for >15 minutes and why you should drain them on a rack and not a paper towel. These tips are important for people to understand and follow if they want a successful outcome

Becky, I can’t thank you enough for this quick and easy way to make squash. My husband, who wouldn’t let any squash or zucchini cross his lips, now has requested that I make this. Today I only had one squash, so I tried adding a peeled sliced cucumber to the bag with the squash and cornmeal (including the teaspoon of Splenda) and he couldn’t tell the difference - neither could I! It was just great. For those who want to try it, DO peel the cucumber first as it has a much tougher skin than squash. God Bless you and thanks for sharing all your expertise!

@Jeff Schwender God's Word says that Jesus said "I will have mercy and not sacrifice; for I am not come to call the righteous: but sinners to repentance." !!! That's in Matt.
ch. 9, and vs. 13. Besides it also says "There are none righteous, no, not one."which is in Romans 3, vs.10. It clearly instructs us sinners "Except ye repent, ye shall likewise perish." Luke 13:3 Jesus paid for every sin you have ever committed.... it was nailed to His cross! Believe and receive forgiveness .... become His child. In 2 Peter ch.3 vs.9 it does
promise that the Lord is "not willing that any should perish,
but that all should come to repentance." Pray for His Truth to
be revealed to your heart = and don't waste time. Turn to Him.

We do this with variety of vegetables, Potatos, eggplant, spinich leaves, capsicum and other peppers. And we use flour of cereals. Thick batter coating is used many times, to get to eat the cereals flour as well.
One experimental fry is do the same thing with slice bread directly, Or fill mashed potatos (mixed with salt, spices, peas), in the bread, seal the edges of the slice bread and create sealed pockets. Then do the same thing you did in this video with a bit wet flour.

I love fried squash. My Mama always used cornmeal to coat it and so that's the way I learned to fry squash too. Recently I came across a recipe where someone coated them in flour and I gave it a try and I love it fried that way too. Came out so crunchy and good. I was really surprised. So, I fry em both ways now. Tfs. Your squash looks delicious and has me wanting some now. I'll have to fry some up. Have a great day. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida🌴😎💙😎🌴

Hmm.. Never used Corn Meal. Usually Flour. Let them sit 15 min prior to cooking. Makes sense. Absorbs the moisture.

When you add music, the ones that wear hearing aids like myself can NOT UNDERSTAND what you are saying. Just about EVERYONE adds music we wish they would not.

    • @karlayork877
      @karlayork877 4 года назад +6

I agree. My hearing is fine, but I still can't understand a lot of people when they add music. Nor can I begin to understand WHY so many people do. No matter how good the music might be, it becomes nothing but NOISE when someone is talking!

@@karlayork877 I greatly prefer AUDIOBIBLE read without the musical dramatizations. Very distracting. I have very acute hearing and need to focus on the message within the Scripture itself

😋😋 This recipe looks awesome, as usual! I grew up with my family having a garden and my mom used to fry squash and make wonderful squash casserole! I love your recipe with just the corn meal... because it is no mess, you don't have all the bowls of Buttermilk Etc. Wonderful job! Cannot wait to try this.

This is very close to what my Oklahoma family does. My aunt Corky does the baggie trick too. She uses flour and cornmeal, heavier on the cornmeal, with just salt and a lot of pepper! If anything reminds me of my Okie family it's this!

My mother fried squash and okra like you, with just cornmeal, no egg or buttermilk or anything to “make it stick.” I could never get it to fry up like hers, so I’ve tried lots of those recipes and that wasn’t it either. I can’t wait to try yours, my mother never told me to let it sit for at least fifteen minutes, I’ll bet that makes a huge difference! Thank you for sharing this, I subscribed, too!

My friend salts her sliced squash first to draw out some of the moisture, then lays in on paper towel 15-20 minutes. Makes them crispier.

We added salt to our eggplant my Nona called it bleeding she would also add a plate on the top and them place heavy objects on the plate to. Hurry the bleeding process... she said it took some of the bitterness out of the eggplant but. I never tried it on squash....

have you tried this in your air fryer?
I was a picky eater. I only ate vegetables. I can remember having to sit at the table long after everybody else left, cause we had beef stew. I ate all the veges and juice (not gravy) but the meat??? seemed like the longer I chewed the bigger the meat chunks got. Gag!!! Mom was workin the night shift, Dad made the stew out of left over roast beef with taters, onions, and carrots in water. I fell asleep at the table uneaten beef chunks in front of me. When Mom got home she let me go to bed.

Thank you for mentioning the checking of the center of this food (and others) before giving to a toddler to eat. With microwaved dishes, it's easy too not know how "done" the middle of a food may be. I've seen it happen where a little one got an extremely hot bite of something before, and the mom was in tears and she rocked that baby till he stopped crying.
