Peter Vincent was played by Roddy McDowell, who was a very well-known character actor. He started in England as a child actor in the 1930's and went on to dozens of roles in US films, on Broadway, US TV and voice acting for animated films and TV. Fright Night 85 is an absolute classic! Some great monster fx, a killer soundtrack and a lot of fun ridiculous characters. The opening 'movie within a movie' is an homage to the many vampire films of Hammer studios, who made frequent use of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in their heyday.

The old Hammer Horror Dracula films are worth checking out. Both actors played iconic Star Wars villains as well. This movie really takes me back. It had a cult following back in its day. Loved the music score as well. Peter Vincent used regular tap water. That was established during the conversation in preparation to give Jerry the Vampire test. Don’t feel bad for not picking up all these things. This was your first viewing.
I can't express how much I enjoyed this film! It worked for me in so many ways, and incorporated so many things that I love. And when Peter Vincent mentioned that part about it only being tap water, I thought he told Evil to say that to Jerry just so that Jerry would be more at ease. But my gut was also telling me that Peter Vincent, although a huge fan of vampire stuff, would probably not actually have holy water on him. Man, I loved those small moments with Peter Vincent feeling fear and pain. It legit looked like his heart broke when he "killed" Evil. And I love that they had him do that. In other films, a main character makes the kill and just continues on, but here they showed us emotion/shock/grief, because I think most people would indeed feel that in a situation like this.
@@jessebatres6895 So glad to hear your a fan of this iconic film. You obviously paid close attention to the characters and their interactions with each other. It’s a film definitely worth watching again.
Hell yes, this is another GREAT classic from the day! Ya gotta also check out "House" from 1986. Very wild, funny in dark way and great practical effects!
Yeah this was really awesome! I'm gonna tell my wife we should watch it this weekend. NICE, I'm gonna add "House" to my list. Always love films with great practical effects that can be fun and some horror elements.
Agreed! There's a charm to these films with their stories, and a realness/rawness about them because they had no choice but to put in a lot of effort in practical and makeup work.
The makeup work for the vampires is actually really creepy and unsettling so I completely understand why it would be horrifying at a young age. Heck, if I saw Evil or Amy at night coming after me, my heart would probably give out lol
@jessebatres6895 I don't know if you have ever watched The Howling (1981), but that was the best practical effects werewolf transformation I have ever seen. I was like 5 when it came out, and I think that I was 6 or 7 when I actually watched it on VHS. As an adult watching it again it is kind of cheesy, but it still has the scariest and most realistic werewolf transformation that I have ever seen. The stuff nightmares are made of.
Thanks for watching! I don’t like yucking other people’s yums but I find this movie way better than the lost boys. Where as that movie felt like it was trying to appeal to the mtv audience, this feels like it is for horror fans. Also, I think the street Charlie lives on may have also been used in the monster squad movie. Which has a vampire.
Dude this film was so awesome! I'll have to let both films resonate a little longer, but right now I'm kind leaning towards this one to be honest. It just does so many things really well! Thanks for watching and commenting Zach :)

This was a badass film dude! I'm gonna have my wife watch it with me this weekend. And yeah man, the practical effects and makeup work made the vampires look extra creepy. I would probably fall over dead of fright if I saw Amy at night coming after me lol!
Fun Fact: The actor who played the lead Vampire is Chris Sarandon. He's the ex-husband of the more famous SUSAN SARANDON, who kept his last name after their marriage ended because she already made a name for herself in the industry by then.
Ah nice insight! She managed to break away from his trance lol! I guess it would make sense to keep the name since there was probably a lot of work she had done up to that point which included "Sarandon". Man this guy killed this role and was so smooth and sinister!
The tropes of vampire stories began with Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, but developed further in films in the early 20th century. The Dracula of the novel could be out in the daytime and was eventually killed by knives. In the novel, a stake through the heart would weaken a vampire, but if it was removed they could come back. Cutting off their head and burying with a stake still in the heart was the best method.
I didn't think about that. I guess that was another potential excuse that Billy Cole or Jerry could've given the cops if they asked too many questions.
@@jessebatres6895 I never thought about it either. But a collector told me one time that it keeps the sun from messing up the wine and discoloring the label.
My favorite vampire movie and Brad Fiedel film score. @8:52 the movie that's on Charley's TV is 1972's "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things". Chris Sarandon said that his vampire eats fruit because he has fruit bat in him.
Typically, vampires have to be invited in each time. But Jerry was smart, he's been at this for a long time. He tricked Charlie's mother into letting him in whenever he wants. 😏
"Each time"? Where did you get that idea? The classic vampire tradition is that if you invite them into your home, they can come in anytime they want. That goes back to the early medieval vampire legends when they were little more than ghoulish undead that fed on both the flesh and the blood of the living.
@@LeChaunce Never heard that. I've heard they had to ask to come in otherwise they're powerless or something. Which is why I figured he had his mother invite him in whenever he wants. Like that was his loophole out of having to ask every time.
@@LeChaunce Also, the more permanently ghoulish vampires never been my thing. So, maybe I just never got that info. I typically know most of the lore but definitely not all of it especially, if it's from a certain genre of vampires.
@@sagittarius420cheefie Wow. I am absolutely fascinated. Can you give me an example in pop culture or folklore of a vampire story where the invitation restriction requires them to seek an invitation every single time? Because I've inundated myself in vampire folklore, myth, and pop culture for the past fifty years and I've never come across this in any of the stories that use the "must be invited" trope -- not in any version of Dracula, nor Dark Shadows (the tv show, not the shitty Tim Burton film), this film or its sequel, Lost Boys, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (movie or tv show -- in fact, it's a plot point in numerous episodes where the invitation must be revoked by spell or other supernatural means), Supernatural, or even the contradictory vampire lore in assorted episodes of X-Files... or any of a gazillion books I've read (fiction and non-). So I'm intrigued where this is the case in your experience. And please understand, I'm not criticizing or calling you out... I'm absolutely fascinated by this and want to learn more.
@@LeChaunce Because I've never seen those vampires ever come over more than once. I may have forgotten if they did. But I don't really remember too many coming over multiple times. So, I figured it was a thing. Never heard that they specifically only had to ask one time. Just heard they can't come in without being invited. I've never known anyone to be invited once and think that meant they're invited every time.😂
Tha melting/exploding thing is wildly inconsistent. In the novel, Dracula crumbles to dust when destroyed - but his victims don't. Lucy, for instance, is then beheaded and has her mouth stuffed with garlic. It might be due to how long the vampire has been dead. Or undead, whatever. Heck, in Lost Boys, each one dies differently and only David goes out looking normal. In Hammer's Horror of Dracula, the Bride turns to an old woman when staked, Jonathan just looks dead and Drac crumbles to dust in sunlight.
@@StephenPhillips-te8yv Some inconsistency would be nice at times. I do like when older vampires go out the same way as newbies or minions. When I was watching True Blood, a major hero vampire bit the dust. It was supposed a really sad moment in the series. But he just departed with a quick pop, like a blood filled balloon...no different from any disposable Vamp.
In the original Dracula novel, Dracula had a human assistant named Renfield who lived in an insane asylum and believed he could become immortal if he ate enough living things. In the asylum, all that was available were insects, so he ate those. Dracula later recruited him by offering eternal life and would send him larger food like rats. A Renfield character showed up in some of the Dracula movies with varying backgrounds and abilities, and there was a short-lived Renfield TV series about 10 years ago. Last year there was a Renfield movie with Nicholas Hoult as Renfield and Nicolas Cage as Dracula. Worth checking out.
You liked the score (you ALWAYS like the score!) - this one was by Brad Fiedel who did the unforgettable scores for BOTH Terminator films (you'll recognize the style whenever Jerry is with any girl, and at the nightclub scene. In fact, the nightclub is very much like the Tech Noir scene in T1). This film, among the other vampire films at the time (including Lost Boys) went in a different direction with the effects and made the vampires more savage and feral - you noticed it with the second vamp-appearance with Evil, but have a look at Amy before she turns around on Charlie - her mouth looks like to has split at the sides to open wider. This has been an influence on other films - one day you should check out 'Vamp' with Grace Jones. You thought Evil Ed was over the top - fair enough, but he does grow on you with rewatches. There is quite a bit of fan commentary about him - that he is neurodivergent / on the autism spectrum (which would make sense of his behaviour), and possibly neglected / abused as a child (his willingness to take Jerry at his word). With regards to his wolf form, different vampire lore and stories have vampires being able to turn into bats (obviously) but also wolves and rats (particularly with their connection to disease and plagues). Then there is Jerry - Mr handsome and charming. Charm and domination are also typical vampire powers so it isn't unique for this guy, BUT you are probably right with the Casanova angle, in that he is really 'playing up his strengths' in that he didn't have to work to hard on Amy and the audience completely buys his smile. One point you make that I disagree with - the taking the deal to buy more time. Yes, Charlie could buy more time to plan his attack, but we see that Jerry is very sadistic and self-centred (the car). I think he would happily break any promise to buy HIMSELF more time. Also, as we see in vampire films - it is one thing to go into a vampire nest with stakes and holy water and all that, but it is quite another to actually strike at the right moment
I mean these 80's films are just on another level with the soundtracks :) Wow, I can see the similarities now between the scenes in both films! So with Evil Ed, it actually clicked for me as I went deeper into the post analysis. I mention that Evil might be putting up this facade to hide some deep seeded issues or insecurities, and that he is probably so "in your face" all the time because he's hiding something that's going on within him. And that it now makes sense for me as to why his character would be like that for the bulk of the film. It's actually pretty awesome that the film did that with him. I really like how the actor portrayed Jerry. He's so smooth and cool, but you can also see that he's having a great time with the character. His little moments when he smiles or "quietly threats" Charlie in front of others is awesome! For the moment where Jerry offers Charlie a truce - I think self preservation would take over for most, and there's a strong likelihood to take the deal immediately to at least save one self in the moment. Than it becomes a situation where you gotta know that time is ticking and you have no choice but to act at some point.
@@jessebatres6895And you were right. The best scene was when Charlie said only us can save Amy. THAT IS A CHARACTER IN A MOVIE! It's not even my real name. I'm terrified Charlie
Not Peter Graves, Peter Cushing, who was a Hammer Films horror movie star. Cushing played Van Helsing, Dracula’s nemesis, and he also played Dr. Frankenstein and many other roles.
the music was by brad fiedel who also did the music from terminator 1 and 2. he retired and married tina from jaws 2. i wish hed done the music for the other terminators and still did music today.
Someone mentioned Brad Fiedel earlier, and I can now see some of the similarities in music/pitch between the club scene here and the club scene in Terminator 1.

My initial thought around the tap water comment from Peter Vincent is that he told Evil to say that so that Jerry would be more at ease, but it's looking like it was indeed tap water after all lol! Ah that would help explain it, but I'm surprised Evil didn't just start melting or becoming ash because it looked like Peter Vincent was there for a good while when Evil was on the floor.

I agree I love House!!! Always a favorite growing up
@@laurenherda2415 I couldn't help myself so I googled the film poster and yeah that already looks fun and up my alley! Looking forward to it!
@jessebatres6895 there's something so special about 80s horror, nothing else like it in my opinion
Agreed! There's a charm to these films with their stories, and a realness/rawness about them because they had no choice but to put in a lot of effort in practical and makeup work.
Go on mate!!! You're narf pulling them out the bag this month!!
Thanks brother! This film was so good that I kept laughing my ass off while editing it. Too good!!!
So glad you reacted to Fright Night...one of my favorite horror movies!
THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!! It will be a regular watch for me going forward for sure :)
This movie scared the hell out of me. Of course I was only 5 when it came out lol especially when Evil goes FRIGHT NIGHT. amazing movie
The makeup work for the vampires is actually really creepy and unsettling so I completely understand why it would be horrifying at a young age. Heck, if I saw Evil or Amy at night coming after me, my heart would probably give out lol
@jessebatres6895
I don't know if you have ever watched The Howling (1981), but that was the best practical effects werewolf transformation I have ever seen.
Amy plays Marcy the next door neighbor on Married with Children. Fright Night is one of my fav. childhood movies. Good reaction!! 🧛♂️💨
OH DUDE! I thought she looked familiar! I watched Married with Children a bit when I was a kid. Damn, it's crazy since she had some really seductive scenes in this film and to then think of her character in Married with Children and Al always roasting the shit out of her haha!!
Glad you enjoyed it! This film just worked for me in so many ways
@@jessebatres6895 Glad you liked Fright Night. It took me a while to realize it was her as well, the characters are so different. You will also enjoy 1983 Twilight Zone the Movie. Or 1995 Demon Knight.
Check out the movie, House from the 80's. Another classic horror comedy.
Water wasn't blessed, just ordinary tap water.
Always cool to watch the films with you together here 😁
Thanks Julian! Hope you enjoy this one :)
@@jessebatres6895 Thanks bro, I always do with every reaction from you 🤝👌
This is one of my favorite horror movies to watch every Halloween season. I still think that the practical makeup effects make for some creepy vampires
The only way to be sure. The beheading is the vampire double tap.
8:24 This is also a common practice with wine collectors who keep their stock in the basement.
Ah nice! Thanks for the insight on that particular film! I googled it and that guy in the suit looks really creepy!
Best vampire movie of the 1980s. Maybe one of the best ever made.
Quit being my spirit animal
I've never known anyone to be invited once and think that meant they're invited every time.😂
The score was done by the same guy that did The Terminator and Return of the Living Dead. Brad Fiedel.
I'll have to check out more of his work. Someone mentioned that he's retired now, but will take a look at a list of his different soundtracks soon.
One of my favorite vampire movies. Check out... Vampire In Brooklyn!
Daybreakers!
Nice! I'll add those to my list for sure! Thanks for watching and commenting :)
58:28 It's because Peter Vincent pulled the stake out, that Evil came back.
I wonder why Peter Vincent didn't later question how Evil never exploded/melted, especially after seeing how Jerry went out.
The main theme by Brad feidel is called COME TO ME and there’s the track It’s actually called FRIGHT NIGHT
The guy that decomposed on the staircase wasn't a vampire, he was a ghoul. He was there to protect Jerry while he sleeps during the daylight
That was a good twist! Has walk up the stairs was very "zombie-like", and I like the quirkiness that the actor brought to the character.
I mean these 80's films are just on another level with the soundtracks :)
Wow, I can see the similarities now between the scenes in both films!
Peter Vincent (played by the great Roddy McDowell) was a name based on 2 great horror actors from the old days, Peter Graves & Vincent Price
Nice! I always find it amusing when someone has 2 first names. I really enjoyed this character, and Roddy McDowell played him so well!!
@@FilmBuff54 Oops I goofed up his name. Sorry about that.
You will love fright night 2 it is fantastic as well.
Gonna have to check that one out as well! Thanks for the recommendation David :)
the music was by brad fiedel who also did the music from terminator 1 and 2. he retired and married tina from jaws 2. i wish hed done the music for the other terminators and still did music today.
Someone mentioned Brad Fiedel earlier, and I can now see some of the similarities in music/pitch between the club scene here and the club scene in Terminator 1.
The actress who played Amy also starred as the next door neighbor Marcy in Married with Children
Laughed my ass off when I found this out after looking up each of the actors. I watched the show a bit as a kid, and damn what a difference in characters. Al never missed an opportunity to roast her 😂
Check out Sleepaway Camp 1, 2, 3, 4 is return to sleepaway Camp
A friend of mine recommended Sleepaway Camp and told me to prepare for something crazy. Looking forward to it!
Yay!!!🎉

The girlfriend also played Marcy on Married with Children. 😅
Fucking hilarious! I used to watch a little bit of that show when I was a kid, so I couldn't tell that was her until after looking up the cast and their past work. Al was always roasting the shit out of her haha!

Hey watch The Rage CARRIE 2 (1999) movie
Will definitely be checking that out as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@26:20 it was just regular tap water thats why it didn’t work on him.
And Evil lived because Peter Vincent removed the stake from his heart. 🫀
Why are you talking over the characters ?
