This is the album I go to the most when it comes to Megadeth. The tone, the foreboding atmosphere, the dirty riffs. It just does it for me. Almost a 10/10 album.
Definitely better than RIP.

I Ain't Superstitious is a cover of an old Southern Rock/Blues song, that's why it sounds a bit out of the ordinary for a Megadeth song.
IMO this is their best album
A close tie between Peace Sells and Rust in Peace. Its hard to argue with Holy Wars/punishment due.
rust in peace is better in every way except the atmosphere that's going on like in Good Mourning/Black Friday, Wake up Dead, Bad omen and My last words.

I liked Megadeth in short bursts on their earlier albums. But it wasn’t until Rust In Peace that all the pieces fell into place for me. The best and tightest line up they ever had and the writing and playing is 10 out of 10. Still to this day top 5 metal album of all time. Then the following album undid all that and they went super commercial in both production and song writing. Still had some good songs but the frenetic intensity from Rust In Peace was gone.
Rust in Peace is my favourite, too. I'd put it up there in my short list of best thrash albums right along with Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood.
Its their defining album, really. Also, my fave lineup.

Edit: interesting how one of the things I love about early Megadeth is how chaotic and unpredictable the songs are. I love how there's so many riffs and switchups. But you prefer verse chorus verse structures
Edit2: I like how you don't care for Peace Sells lol. Imo it's always been the weakest track in the album. That said I Ain't Superstitious is a cover so it doesn't count

This was a great reaction!! I have to say that this is my favourite Megadeth Album, but you are right specially about I Ain't Supersticious. It's a cover, and it takes you out of the -let's say- "anger" of Megadeth at that time. Peace Sells is just that one song of the album that stands out as the more "aproachable" one, and that's why it is still one of Megadeth's most known songs (besides, that bass intro is just iconic).
It's really great that you liked the drums a lot. Gar Samuelson, the drummer on this album and Killing is my Business, was a jazz drummer before he joined Megadeth. So, you certainly can feel the influence of Jazz on these albums. I have to say that he is my favourite megadeth drummer, being Nick Menza (the one in Rust In Peace and more) a really close second.
After Peace Sells... But Whose Buying?, Gar Samuelson, and the guitarist Chris Poland left the band, so, In So Far, So Good, So What you will hear a different guitar player and drummer.

This album feels all over the place. There are elements of genius here and there, but it feels like a collection of ides. Albeit, great ideas. So far, so good... So what! is my favorite, because they get a better hold of the chaos and sound more cohesive. Rust in piece is on a different level for metal music, not just Megadeth. Great reaction!
This album blew my mind as a 12 yr old kid. Cassette and walkman cranked up. The oldies had no idea what I was rocking out to.
One of the greatest groups ever. Hands-down. Peace Sells in an all-time classic of metal. This album and Killing Is My Business are probably the two angriest Megadeth albums, and it lends well to Dave's vocals and the guitars.

This is in my top 3 favorite Megadeth albums, maybe even number one for me. Its a tie between their debut as well as Rust In Peace which is regardered as their greatest album of all time, similar to how Master Of Puppets is regarded as Metallica's greatest.
I'm glad you liked a bunch of songs from it! I agree that it has a very halloweenish ambience and vibe to it. It always reminds me of fall. Their debut and third album also gives off this spooky sounding vibe that was characteristic of early megadeth that set them apart from other thrash bands, along with the unique jazz fusion infleunce. The reason you probably felt thrown off by I Aint Superstitious is because you're right that it's actually a cover and not an original. It's a cover from an old blues song by Willie Dixon and Howlin Wolf. It was then covered by Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart and then by Megadeth where they sped up the blues and made it thrash. I really recommend listening to the Jeff Beck version as well as the Howlin Wolf one as that's where the influence came from. To me it fits with the supernatural themes of this album, albeit in an ironic way claiming that he's not superstitious. Because at the time Mustaine was caught up in the occult which he has since renounced which was actually documented in the song The Conjuring which you can hear about in interviews. Mustaine's early influences were actually from 60s and 70s blues based rock bands like Led Zeppelin in which Jimmy Page used to play with Jeff Beck in the early days with their band the Yardbirds. So it's probably why it appears on this album. The blues also has a long history of being connected to the supernatural side of things. I can see why it's not the favorite for many people, but songs that are disliked at first listen can actually grow on you overtime which I know happens to me a lot. And yeah I can see why Peace Sells as a song may now seem tame compared to other songs of their catalog, but its usually one of the songs that first gets people into Megadeth who aren't familiar with them and is many peoples favorite. But yeah you should really check out their next album So Far, So Good, So What! as well as Rust in Peace. In my opinion it has more of a punk vibe while Rust in Peace is on a different level and will blow your mind lol
I always feel so out of place when I say this is my favorite record of theirs. The dirt and atmosphere alone make it their best in my humble opinion.

Halloweeny is a good description. This one and Rust In Peace are my favorites, and have the most eerie sound I think. Good points on the 2 songs that are a bit different, I Ain't Superstitious is a cover. And Peace Sells was written more as an anthem.
And if you're not familiar with the band Heart, their song Barracuda sounds similar to Devil's Island to me. Maybe they influenced Dave, their song came first.
Good Mourning Black Friday is one of the best songs ever written in Metal history imo

You still gotta listen to And Justice for All as well! It's one of Metallica's thrash albums, it's right up there with Ride the Lightning and Master of puppets.
Oh yeah! Defo check And Justice before you try the Cr*p, I mean, the Black Album. Nah, that's not fair. The Black Album has some great stuff on it, but I think there's a general consensus that And Justice was the last truly classic Metallica album. You'll love it, Kira ❤
About I Ain't Superstitious, back in the early days of metal, heavy bands didn't get any mainstream radio air play and album sale depended heavily on that. So, the record labels would pressure the metal bands to do a cover of a classic rock song and even though the radio stations wouldn't play the bands music they would play their cover song and get their album sales jump started that way. Not every one was into that but most of them did it and it worked for a great deal of them.
Rust In Peace. The only album I have by them but oh boy...what an album

It was common knowledge that Dave Mustaine was on a mission w/ Megadeth to outdo his former bandmates in Metallica after his firing in 1983... He could've made just another thrash metal band, but Mustaine wanted Megadeth to be more technical and challenging musically... he had David Ellefson (bass)... and 2 jazz players - (the late) Gar Samuelson (drums) and Chris Poland (guitar) and their 1985 debut album "Killing is my business... and business is good!" showed huge potential... but suffered from low budget production and a botched album cover. Mustaine was not happy w/ the Combat label that released the debut album... thankfully, major label Capitol Records made a bid for Megadeth and bought their contract for the 2nd album. Despite the band's dysfunction due to drugs and alcohol, they were on fire creatively and Dave Mustaine crafted a masterpiece of thrash metal w/ a lot of twists and turns... The blues cover of "I ain't superstitious" (written by Willie Dixon) was something no thrash metal band had attempted ... Even Lars Ulrich of Metallica admitted he loved "Peace sells, but who's buyin'?"
Released in 1986, "Peace sells" was an immediate success and outsold "Killing is my business" as Megadeth hit the road opening for Alice Cooper... the album sold gold (half million copies)in the US and MTV even put 2 music videos on the air ('Wake up dead'... and 'Peace sells') before Metallica even filmed a music video.
However, Mustaine was furious that Metallica's 3rd album 'Master of Puppets' was more successful, eventually selling platinum (1 million copies) ... But in the Fall of 1986 while Megadeth was on tour, Dave Mustaine got news from Europe that his former Metallica bandmate Cliff Burton (bass) was killed in a bus accident - a devastated Mustaine wrote the song 'In my darkest hour' as a tribute to Burton, and it became a standout single on Megadeth's 3rd album 'So far, so good, so what!' in 1988.
In 1987, Mustaine fired both Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland after they were caught pawning the band's gear for drug money... Megadeth's 3rd album was recorded w/ Jeff Young (guitar) and Chuck Behler (drums)... Years later, Dave Mustaine admitted that the band had made no money even after the 4th album 'Rust in Peace' in 1990 because he and bassist David Ellefson had blown a lot of money on drugs to the point of debt and owing taxes.
Drummer here is a genius. RIP Gar Samuelson. Thing about Megadeth is that they’re jazz musicians playing Metal and it shows. Always bad choices for cover versions.
I bought this album back when I was in highschool, I was already into Metallica and Slayer so I was there when all this shit went down! And this album blow my mind! My love for Heavy Metal would progress through the years, I am now 54 years old and still as much a Metal Head at heart as I was back then! Keep up the good work! Give Venom black metal a go!
Countdown to extinction is an amazing album and most approachable of theirs.

I Ain't Superstitious are written by Willie Dixon 1915-1992. He wrote a lot of hits. Hoochie Coochie Man are another. A lot of his songs got recorded by other artists

PLEASE seek out the original mix of this album! It had a little more grit to it and overall just a more enjoyable listen. Love the old Megadeth reactions!
There best album imo
This is the album that got them noticed by a broader audience, but admittedly it has some very strong call backs for the first album in the form of extended and pretty complicated Arrangements that are sometimes a bit jarring a bit jarring. Is also unfortunately Chris Poland's last album with Megadeth which is a shame because he was an absolutely brilliant the guitar player and played with such a strange and Jazz influenced sort of Ease on top of the stains Rift that it just was magical. I never heard anything like him when I first heard this album back in the day and now I know his guitar solos are more like jazz organ or perhaps trumpet solos they have a very different kind of vibe to them but they're freaking brilliant anyway, this is a new album for me and I'm glad that you liked most of it

Chris has solos on 3 of the 8 songs on the first record . He has slightly more on this record . Most people's fav Chris Poland solos are actually Dave . The best solos here are on the conjuring and my last words where Chris doesnt even appear .
My personal favorite Chris solo off all three albums he recorded on... yes even the 2004 album, is the last solo from 'Good Mourning/Black Friday'. It's so damn good. 🤘🤘🤘

Peace Sells is easily my favourite of the early Megadeth albums (anything before Rust in Peace). I know the title track wasn’t your favourite but it’s fantastic if you ever see it played live, gaining more and more momentum as the song goes on. I’m not a fan of So Far, So Good… only a few tracks that I like and I think the production of album is pretty bad. Rust in Peace is amazing.
Can't say this is 100% accurate, but I heard this years ago. When Megadeth got their first album deal, they were contracted to play a cover on their first three albums. On the first album, "Killing Is My Business..." the cover is 'These Boots'. One the second album, "Peace Sells..." the cover is 'I Ain't Superstitious'. On their third album, "So Far, So Good..." the cover is 'Anarchy in the UK'. No covers on the fourth album, "Rust in Peace."
I like this album slightly more than the first, partly due to the better production, but I also think Dave's soloes are played better here. Sure, if the gang hadn't blown so much money, no pun intended, the first album might have sounded better and they might have had more time in the study. I do love the feel of this album a little more than "Rust in Peace". "RiP" is technically a better album all the way around, but "Peace Sells..." just has that funkier feel to it.
Peace Sells does stick out from the other tracks on this album but is a fairly typical of Megadeth in general (they're sometimes glibly stereotyped as "I strongly dislike the government -19 guitar solos-").
As you guess I Ain't Superstitious is a cover of blues song, originally recorded by the legendary Howlin' Wolf. Mustaine is very conversant in music from outside the metal world and seems to particularly love the blues, with Megadeth having generally a much bluesier sound than Metallica as a result.
Do Slayer First album. Show No Mercy its only as heavy as this one not as heavy as their others

Yeah the 2nd to last track is not only the worst song on the album but IMO the worst song in the entire catalog of Megadeth. You were spot on to say it didn't sound like Megadeth because it isn't 😆 "I Ain't Superstitious" is a song written by bluesman Willie Dixon and first recorded by Howlin' Wolf in 1961, Jeff Beck covered the song in 1968 and it was a big hit, then in 1986 Megadeth covered it again and it was a big shit LOL

Sultans of Swing is a groove of the highest level, Deacon Blues is smoother than glass, and King of the World has one of the best bass solos/runs I’ve ever heard at the end.
I can’t get used to how she chops up the songs and you lose the rythm of the songs. The conjuring is the best song on this album but the way she chopped it up made it hard to listen to. Second best Megadeth album after Rust in Peace.
This must be your first day on the internet . The video gets pulled for a copyright infringement claim by the record company if it's not cut up , you get a strike from youtube and your channel get deleted after so many strikes

Can't agree on Peace sells, first song way back in the 80s got me into Mega , love the tune, in no way Poppy , go listen to Metallica after, In Justice for all ,if you want Pop metal but great reaction over all , just the record skipping lost me a little
