@@g-man4744 What's funny is I realized since posting I actually heard it first time stone sober in the NYPL of all places. I'd say since then I've listened sober maybe 10% of spins, like at work. Not required, but if I knew somebody who would enjoy this album for the first time and they smoked, I would recommend.
Discovered this album while on probation, with weekly drugs tests. It was in constant rotation for the duration.

I think you would love Windhand: they're similar to Electric Wizard, female fronted and she has melody lines that are very Ozzy-ish.

If you haven’t done research on the background of this album, I’ll tell you some about it, cause it’s quite interesting and definitely adds a lot to this album and its sound as well.
So basically they recorded this album during a time where they all was dealing with drug and alcohol problems. They felt just pure hate. Because of that they wanted to make the most ugly and disgusting album ever.
Jus Osborn said in an interview talking about the album:
“Most of us were stuck in some drug addiction or alcoholism at the time, and it was just pure hate. It was us against the world, and we just wanted to make the most disgusting, foul, putrid record that anyone has ever recorded. We camped out at the studio, so it was literally just wake up, consume as much fucking drugs as possible, and then just start jamming.”

This was also their third album. When they recorded the debut (self titled) they were just a new band and really didn’t have a clue of what to do. Their second album (Come My Fanatics…) is really where Electric Wizard became the Electric Wizard we all know and love, that’s where they found their sound. By the time they were recording Dopethrone, the band knew exactly what to do in the studio. Where they perfect the sound they had found on Come My Fanatics…

Great reaction! "Dopethrone" and "Come My Fanatics": the two main masterpieces of the masterful Electric Wizard...I also love another album: "Black Masses"...But, in reality, the band's entire discography is excellent!!! Greetings from Brazil!!!

Damn man, I could listen to this album for the rest of my life, It's so unique and so full of emotion I can't explain, there is nothing that comes even remotely close to it
If you do another electric wizard album or even listen to another full one in your spare time I fully recommend Witchcult today. I know for sure you'll enjoy it along with Come my fanatics. This band is one of my favorites and it's great to see someone enjoy them as much as I do! Love the channel!

YES! It's so exciting to see folks get into my favorite band. I think you should check out another amazing band. They're called OM, and the album you should check out first is Variations on a Theme. OM is a doom band like no other. Fantastic stuff.

I listened to this album this week while walking around the local farmers market. It is amazing walking around such a normal scene listening to such insane music. A classic album for certain.

You've done before a little bit of King Diamond ("Abigail"), but I'd encourage you to check out his other band Mercyful Fate. Definitely up the same alley as classic Sabbath, Electric Wizard, and such.

Everything king diamond has done from the 1st mercyful fate EP to The Eye is absolutely some of the best heavy metal ever!
We need a reaction to the supercoven "EP" now. And my personal favorite Wizard album, although Dopethrone is the go to and my first one, Is "We Live". Take Dopethrone and crank the sludge from 11 to 12.
Also along you Stoner Metal Journey indefinitely recommend checking out the band "Mephistofeles". Solid, solid grooves coming out of Argentina. The best riffs I've heard from any band still active right now. And that's saying something. My stoner metal playlist on Spotify is 130 hours and still growing every day. Completely hand picked too

Now that you’ve heard the album in full, I highly highly suggest you do a stoned reaction. Not kidding when I say it sounds like a completely different record. Electric Wizard understood how to distort time in a way nearly no other band could. Prepare to have your mind absolutely melted🤘😩
So you asked how the sound this way, they are tuned to B (low as f"ck) and they use a fuzz distortion effect on their guitars!
I highly recommend: Age of winters album by the band, the sword.

The guitar tone is so NASTY on this album! No one - not even electric wizard themselves - could recapture it, it really is lightning in a bottle moment in metal history.

Music that so monotonous and minimalistic can become attractive only through the exquisite work with the tone of the instruments, and here such work has not been done sufficiently.
Nevertheless, this longplay shows how minimalistic things can be quite spectacular and catchy - as some of minimalist billboard, for example.
Listening to music like the one on this record, it's impossible to not remember a classic of psychedelic industrial metal - Ministry masterpiece 'Filth Pig' from 1996.
Someone, something, rules this place.
The band you're thinking of at 37:03 is probably Witchfinder General. You'd probably like them, very Black Sabbath-esque.

Dopelord album "children of the haze" should definitly be on your radar next.
If you ever get the chance, visiting New Orleans and going to a bar show is worth it. A blunt will just get passed to you for no reason other than that you’re there, and they have a good handful of doom bands, and other shit, and other bands travel there specifically for the bars
Give Fu Manchu a try. Not as heavy, but pioneers of Stoner Rock.

You really loved Sabbath but people tend to think that sabbath played heavy metal (which they did from Heaven and Hell and onward)so they adviced more heavy metal stuff but I remember you diggin the first albums which ACTUALLY are stoner/doom! You being crazy with E.Wizard makes so much sense

I first read about this album in prison and couldn't wait to get out, get stoned and jam it. See, I was the target demographic at the time.
