this is originally was a patreon exclusive (hence me mentioning 'final track' at the beginning) but i loved it so much i thought i'd share it with everyone on YT as well. enjoy!
Same😁 I've got "Houses of the Holy", and the original version is obviously a quality on its own, but... Tool's version hits familiar, yet completely different, if that makes any sense. "No Quarter" and "You Lied" are my favorites from "Salival".
First heard tool when I was 38. I am now 63, and their sound is as good or better than the first. I can tell you are digging them. They are like a psychedelic mind trip. Keep on jamming. Loved your reaction, it was just as pure as tools sound. Thanks for putting this out.
I can’t even fathom any Led Zep fan not liking this cover, unless they had some previous irrational hatred for Tool. This is also a great example of how Tool is the BEST at composing “outros” to songs.
I became a musician because of Led Zeppelin and a bassist because of JPJ but Tools version exceeds Led Zeppelins. Although the 1973 live version of No Quarter just about edges it I think.
Tool did a similar thing with one of their own songs, "Push it" from aenema was re-interpreted by the band to the point it's a whole new thing. Insane head-trip. They brought in this tabla master who worked with Carey to play on it. You can hear it live on the Salival album. Listen to the original then the cover.
This is definitely one of the best cover songs that I'm aware of, it's really cool how they put their own spin on it. It still sounds like the Led Zeppelin song, but at the same time sounds like it could be an earlier era Tool song. If you see them play it live it's even better.
Just saw them 2 weeks ago in Corpus Christi, Tx! And of course they played just as good as they've always have, amazing show. Love the channel, subbed!
When you went from the head-bob to punching the air is my favorite part. Mainly because that's what I do when listening to this Tool song. Also, when you lost it and had to walk around the room during Maynard's scream is a Chef's Kiss...Nobody screams like Maynard screams. Losing your sh*t, and having to walk around the room during the scream is why JMK should be in the Hall Of Fame!.
just found your channel and am enjoying it. also, Bridge of Sighs by Opeth. it's a cover of a Robin Trower song. Opeth is what my dad would call "blood and guts and veins in my teeth" music.
Gong time! Danny on the big sheet metal 💪🏽 Tool is a perfect storm of 4 of the best musicians working in rock. they're play what the song needs, each capable of playing more but working like some kind of organism to serve the whole. If you didn't know this was a cover you'd think it was just a Tool song with more traditional rock n roll vibes.
Been a long time since I've seen a song bounce you out of your seat! Love when the tempo is sludging at snail's pace but Danny fills at turbo speed. So good. Great respect to the original with this version too.
Generally ime not keen on covers, but this is epic, that's the beauty of Tool, you just don't know what's round the corner, except for one thing...pure excellence. Love the reaction 👍
Thank you so much for this. It was so fun watching you hear that for the first time, its how I feel about hearing that song every time. Its so powerful. I cried watching your reaction!!! Thank you so much!
I think the story roughly goes that Tool were invited to submit a song for a Led Zeppelin tribute album, the ppl putting the album together told Tool they needed to shorten the song, Tool said they didn't want to compromise on their vision because of their respect for Zeppelin and said thanks but no thanks and kept the song for themselves. Big mistake by the organisers because the album would've sold way more if it had this song on it.
Cool beans, I figured it was just tossed onto the salival release like they include at live performances, thanks for your insight... also I would've bought the cover album if tool was on it haha
What a stupid thing to do by the organizers. Led Zeppelin got very little radio play throughout their careers because they refused to chop their songs into three-minute bites. Why the hell would a band that truly respects Zeppelin agree to something like that?
I don't know who you are, but this is the greatest reaction I've ever seen. Needless to say I liked I subscribed and I'm ready for more. Be sure to share this song with your pops.
Exactly! "It feels Tool"! So much so that if you didn't know Led Seppelin and this song, you'd never know it was a cover, but "just" another Tool masterpiece. As far as covers go, I have it like this. Either you copy it completely and play and sound exactly like the original, or you make it your own while still paying tribute and respect to the original (meaning also you don't fucking do it, unless you can pull it off) and Tool obviously did ALL of that and then some. ❤🙃
Holiday has ended on the Gold Coast , back home, so uninspired... Then seen you and tool,, there's that warmth again... Like always you kicked it out of the park,, perfection
I love cover songs as long as the band covering the song actually changes the song, because yeah, I've already heard it before so LETS CHANGE IT UP!!!... No Quarter is so great and there's some excellent covers of it..... Type O Negative was the best at covering songs, Angry Inch, Paranoid, Black Sabbath, Cinnamon Girl to name some.
There is a really rough cover that Maynard did with A Perfect Circle that is so unique it’s very rare and is not found on any of their albums. It’s actually a dual cover where they mixed Diary of a Mad Man by Ozzy with Love Song by The Cure and it’s called Diary of a Love Song. I actually love it even though the only recording of the song was. Captured by someone in the audience’s using his phone
Loved you reaction! Just one question (if you ever find this comment) you have half an Australian accent, half American. But the two are clearly separated. Usually people who have been influenced by a different accent give hints of their native accents while the dominant acquired accent takes the fore. Unusual. How did that happen?
You definitely have to give yourself a gift. Listen to Ten Thousand Days. On camera or not, it will be a gift for yourself! Tissues handy is a good call.🌿🌸
Nah look it’s a good cover but come on better then the zeppelin version it’s especially not as good as the live version from 1973 it lacks the wariness that the zeppelin version had
Dude, this was live (remastered for the album, but a live recording). Sick reaction. 🤘 Any track of Tool that you haven't heard yet, I'll love to see your reaction. Wings for Marie parts 1 and 2 if you're gonna do 10000 days but bring some tissues.
Great reaction! I was searching for a Led Zeppelin fan to react to this one! 🔥(Also love Jiji and Totoro in the background ♥) Edit: Please consider listening to their Salival version of Pushit, if you haven't done that already :) It's another masterpiece of Tool, like ... heck, like every song they make.
This was originally recorded for the sound track to Howard Stern's movie. The band couldn't deliver by the deadline and Howard ended up suing them for breach (I think). He went on to trash the band for years because of it, even though he claimed that he understood their point about not wanting to deliver a product that wasn't up to their standards. When music and business intersect, shit reeks of evil. Welcome my son, welcome to... the machine. 🤟🧙♂🤟 Rich the Ancient Metal Beast
You need to hear Maynard cover “When the Levee breaks” with A Perfect Circle, it’s a similar kind of cover where he makes it his own, the live version is better than the studio. I think it’s at Red rocks.
I grew up with Led Zeppelin, but I like this version of No Quarter better. Mostly because of Maynard, but the entire band nails it, as is their custom.
Also, you should check out Maynard’s cover of Elton John’s Rocket Man and his other, other band Puscifer’s cover of Queens, Bohemian Rhapsody, for some proper non-Zeppelin related covers.
The sheer intensity and energy in their music is mind-b. I'll leave you with a request. You have to react to October Ends' new song, it's mind-blowing!
If you allow TOOL to touch your soul, it will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible.....check some of their last album ..... to me ..the golden trinity of the last is fear inoculum ,pneuma and invincible in a row..... also 7empest and descending also bfffff too much !! ...they go beyond... also ..have to say ..looking your reaction is like looking in a mirror.... ahahhhaahahah !!! keep going !!!
this is originally was a patreon exclusive (hence me mentioning 'final track' at the beginning) but i loved it so much i thought i'd share it with everyone on YT as well. enjoy!
Thank sooo much!!!
So glad you did!!
No Quarter is one of the best Tool songs Led Zepplin ever wrote.
Same😁

"No Quarter" and "You Lied" are my favorites from "Salival".
Perfectly said
Absolutely.
Came here for this.
led zeppelin probably stole it from another band. they're known thieves.
Tool shows respect to Zeppelin, and they show that no one can take them from the top of the mountain. Play this for Dad to see his reaction.
Pink floyd, tool and zeppelin perfected music and made it an experience
First heard tool when I was 38. I am now 63, and their sound is as good or better than the first. I can tell you are digging them. They are like a psychedelic mind trip. Keep on jamming. Loved your reaction, it was just as pure as tools sound. Thanks for putting this out.

Pushit has always been my favorite Tool song...The reimagined Pushit on Salival is still my favorite song they ever released.
You have just experienced the greatest cover of all time. Indeed, it's almost an insult to call it a cover, it is a rebirth.
This is definitely one of the best cover songs that I'm aware of, it's really cool how they put their own spin on it. It still sounds like the Led Zeppelin song, but at the same time sounds like it could be an earlier era Tool song. If you see them play it live it's even better.
I remember buying this when it was released in 2000. Thank god I still have it too. They sell on eBay for up to $400 now!
Best cover song ever created
Just saw them 2 weeks ago in Corpus Christi, Tx! And of course they played just as good as they've always have, amazing show. Love the channel, subbed!
They still play it occasionally at live shows. I've seen them play it a couple of times in the last 5 years or so.

The No Quarter redux by Tool is one of my favorite songs from Tool...I am really wanting the upload of your 10,000 Days listen Kira.
Your exacts movements and excitement are quite litteraly me anytime i have my headphones on. Especially with this song
‘Tool just does it, man.’
Perfect statement hahaha

Yep- contains two of the TOOL hallmarks; it's in D minor, and deviates into the obligatory 7/4 section.
I saw them play this a few years ago on Halloween dressed as Led Zeppelin
A major Zepp fan and a major Tool fan, this is an absolute win

Yea it was for Howard Stern on his movie private parts. Tool told Howard to f himself
0:30 Ye of little faith. This is one of the best covers ever recorded.
My FAVORITE song
You have to check out A Perfect Circle's cover of When the Levee Breaks.... it's amazing!
Live at red rocks please it's like twice as good. The solo at the end is one of the best guitar solos ever.
@@Literallyjustmint agreed!
Great recommendation!
Tool are masters of space, timing and most importantly TONE !
What did your family think when you shared this version with them? Was your sis already familiar, did you show your pop?

BS. The OG still sounds amazing. Stop glazing Tool. Zeppelin>> Tool any day.
TOOL always sound like TOOL, even when they cover the mighty Zeppelin.

🚨TOOL COVERS🚨
BEST: ‘No Quarter’
WORST: ‘Strangehold’
UNDERRATED: ‘Demon Cleaner’
You lied is among the best too
It’s a great song. I wish they did a remake. Oh wait I have internet 😁
it does indeed feel "Tool", and thats why we love it 👍
edit: your joy is infectious btw
Anyone heard the whispers in the background, too? :-)
I grew up with Led Zeppelin, but I like this version of No Quarter better. Mostly because of Maynard, but the entire band nails it, as is their custom.
Who did Zeppelin better, Tool or Ann Wilson?
I'll answer: Tool. But both are great.
yeah Zepplin is Danny's favorite too ;)
The ending of this song is responsible for a few holes in my wall 🙃
Try tools cover of you lied originally by a group called peach
Epic! 😎

Great great stuff!! Love Tool forever!!
Good reaction
where's our 10,000 days reaction? 😥 one of the best zeppelin covers ive ever heard
Led Zeppelin wrote it but TOOL made it a million times better!
Theres a band i think you would really like that you most likely never heard of...

Only Tool could make this sound better than Zeppelin 🤘🏻🌀
I do love the original but I feel Zeppelin could have extended their version to make it better
Sometimes less is more
I prefer this cover to the original, but at the same time, i think i like the O'keefe kids covering 46&2 better than Tool's version
TOOL pays homage but makes it their own. ✌️
talking is good, silents is word
sounds like led zeppelin version to me done by Tool
So what’s your dad think of this one??? He shoulda set in for this one!!
Kirawasatoolfan
Do you think your Dad will like this version?? I feel they paid respect to Led Zeppelin with the song but with a TOOL atmosphere...
