      Someone once said, when you get old or older you watch lawn cutting videos. I say, I have to agree. Or perhaps you were not taught this.

      Found a big kitchen knife in my back yard once; would have hit it with the mower. Have no idea why the knife was there; it wasn't mine. No blood or guts on it, so I didn't call the cops.

    My Sir Graham (Zoysia Zeon) is cut at 10 mm and look GREAT! Dormant in winter. My Sir Walter (buffalo) is cut to 10mm and it looks great all year round. Sydney, Australia. I know plenty of people that cut there lawns even lower and they look great. My neighbour across the road cut his buffalo to 100 mm (4”) and it looks crap! This is October my 10mm lawns are are as green as emeralds. Sadly, his lawn is brown and seriously daggy.

    Simply great tips. The wearing protective glasses is fantastic

    • @shawnmendrek3544
      @shawnmendrek3544 4 месяца назад

      I laugh when I see folk not wear protection for their eyes, after having a rock hit my glasses at a high speed, man imagine skipping glasses and losing an eye. Folk say "you need situational awareness", no, you just need to wear protection, problem solved. People have lost eyes, but I get it, egos. Old school methods are less safe, so old school folk do not wanna adapt, I get it. It is natural for people being used to old ways.
      You can have high situational awareness and miss a hidden rock that ricochets off the ground or fences ect and hits you.

    So video is funny and informative, but if I leave the clippings on Zoysia grass, it just creates more thatch. And I should probably just throw away my mower blade and buy a new one; it's a couple decades old, never balanced or sharpened. I'm surprised it cuts as well as it does.

  • @shawnmendrek3544

    Do not cut more than a 1/3rd whew try to telling that to some folk, matter of fact it seems I and others are clueless on this stuff. Some folk you can't tell this, they think you are jipping them. Good for our lawn, however. Good tips, was not aware. Question, so when you have a lot of weeds in your grass, does this work for weeds too* or does it differ?
    I don't have time to cut two ways, that would take all day at my rate for multiple yards. I prefer not to cut for picky people. I have anxiety, I am mowing one way and keeping it moving, that is just me. Come at me lawn snobs.
    I am so bad at landscaping. Especially with a weed whacker. No one ever showed me hands on though.
    Oh so you only cut one way, that is why it takes so long for me to cut a lawn. Makes sense now. I was told you back it up after a lane, no shortcuts. Essentially, I was cutting it twice. Makes sense.

  • @davetrayford

    some BAD advice(no, do NOT mow warmth-thriving types of grass (such as zoyzia, bermuda, and saint augustine) above 1.5 inches except to allow 2.5 in excessively hot (sustained daily high temps of 94 or higher degrees F or in a drought). DO NOT cut food with a mower blade, even if the blade is super sharp...enless you want strange fertilizer, pesticides, feces and bacteria, viruses and fungus !!
