    RULES:
    The object of this single player puzzle game is to capture all the pieces on the card until only 1 piece remains. Choose a challenge card from the book and place it on the table. Place pieces on their matching icons. The icons are: King, queen, bishop, knight, rook, pawn. Now you must move the chess pieces in a way that every move results in a captured piece. All the pieces have their normal chess moves and are all the same color. For a refresher of those moves, check out this video. Since pieces must end in a capture, you will never be able to move a pawn forward, but rather may only capture diagonally with them. If a pawn reaches the top rank they do not get promoted. Also, there is no check rule for the king and, by design, every challenge that includes a King will end with the King as the last remaining piece.
    If you are left with 2 or more pieces and are unable keep the capture streak going, then you lose and must reset the board and try again. When there is only one piece remaining, you win. Time to try your hand at the next puzzle. If you get stuck, you can reference the back of the rule book sheet for the solutions.

      It would have to be by design of the game. I could easily see a game where the only solution would be to use a pawn to capture a king. If the creators don't want that to happen, then they need to remove cards where that result is the only solution.

      Solution:
      Rook takes Knight on A3
      Rook takes Pawn on B3
      Rook takes Bishop on B1
      Knight cannot move since if it captures the bishop, it cannot move anymore since there are no pieces in the squares it could move to. And there is no way to catpure the knight after this.
      Bishop can capture Rook and then Pawn but the remaining pieces can no longer move.

    • @KineticManiac
      @KineticManiac 2 года назад +7

      The word "solitaire" can also refer to any single-player game, that's probably why it was named Solitaire Chess.
      On a different note, I don't see how this game is more similar to Sudoku than Solitaire. Care to explain?

    • @nef36
      @nef36 2 года назад +5

      @@KineticManiac
      (I'll be referring to the game as Sudoku Chess out of pure stubbornness)
      Similarity one: they're both played on a grid, while solitaire is not.
      Similarity two (the more important one): In Sudoku you're given a fixed, predetermined starting position, and you have to find the right arrangement of numbers to fill everything in. In Sudoku Chess, you're given a fixed, predetermined starting position, and while you're not filling in empty squares, you're still having to find the right combination of moves to solve the puzzle under the rules.
      Both games even seem to have the same presentation format, as a book containing premade puzzles sorted by increasing difficulty.
      Compare this to solitaire: in solitaire, there is only a deck of cards, the cards are always shuffled, (so no predetermined puzzles in a real game), and it's about managing your various stacks of cards correctly to get the correct assortment order of cards in each stack.

      How is it an ad? By that logic, every video of his that has ever gone over a particular product is an ad for that product. I wouldn't personally consider a video on how to play Uno to be a Mattel advertisement. Even many of his chess tutorials are very specific products that you'd have to buy from a specific company.
