Nah I had a 87 CR5OO n I think the 89 was by far the best with the all red scheme. The 85 86 n 87 engines were the most potent after that they were kinda detuned to try to make them easier to ride .didn't have any problems with mine hell even did a pro circuit pipe twin air filter, boyesen reeds ,ohlins rear shock n a minor port job cranked out 72 hp scary fast bike to say the least lol
Sounds beautiful! I had a '91 CR500 and have a lot of good memories of racing it in AMCA events in the mid 90s. My dad had a '90 CR500 too at the same time. Happy days. I'd love to own another CR500 again some day. Thanks for the video.

In Australia we had a small number ADR versions of these which made them legal to register and put on the road. They rarely come up for sale and I've never seen a ADR version second hand, only when they were new.

Any kick starter will kick back. Just kick through hard and fast and keep your foot on the lever. Just a little practice is all. Just wait till you get to the pain of foot pegs :)

I still cry thinking about how much more $$$$ my old honda cr 480 n cr 500 race bikes are worth nowdays verses what I sold them for ,ESPECIALLY THE 480 SOLD IT FOR $300.00 IN THE EARLY 90'S ERRRRRRR!!!!!
Did you mix oil in the gas? Usually after a rebuild they smoke like a train till you burn all the assembly oils up. You did oil it all up while rebuilding it? Me no think so. I see no smokie. I smell another rebuild.
I guess fitting low pro taper style bars makes you wonder what to do with the front number plate strap.I suppose you just zip tie it down.Other than that this bike is perfect and ready for pre race inspection.

Move forward about a metre and get ya body weight down ON TOP of the kicker.Your leg and foot will love you.And very nice rebuild by the way.I remember my friends '91 cr 125.Quick as lightning through the trails,that's for sure
i know i was just being less literal instead of saying "looks like you need some nitrogen gas in your rear shock" which kinda sounds stupid. so i just said air. plus my front suspension has air in it
Just watch how I kick. First open the choke..then hold the bike sideways until the fuel runs out of your carberator overflow. Now you already have fuel in the cylinder. Then start the 'kick sequence'...try to find the point where you feel the piston move up or down. It's kind of a click. Bring the kickstarter back up..and kick it down with maximum power. It should start..within 1 or 2 kicks.
It's the power valve.It's strange set up with ball bearings that that are moved by centrifugal force up a grooved ramp and open the hpp.It's noisy but when it's timed right these bikes have plenty of torque.
That thing should smoke after the first start, it's running quite dry if no smoke. Its actually not lean, the gas is to thin, not enough oil. That top end may already have some wear on the first start. Smoke is lubrication for a 2 stroke and their should be plenty of it on a 2s first start since everthing should have been well oiled on the inside when put together.

Dont forget about the 84 air cooled cr. In my opinion it would pull just as hard as the 86 liquid cooled when it was warmed up.
And I agree with 91 best looking year. Not overall look but something about those graphics i just love.

Sometimes when you take video of 2 stroke, you cant see any smoke on video but in reality its smoking.

After a rebuild, the less you idle the better…….for the long run.
Those cnc frame connection protectors are a nice touch !
I want that idle as a ringtone on my phone.

however i did replace the stock reed valves for a rad box :-)))

On the 2stroke more in the mixture more smoke probably running a tad lean.
Devin 95. Thats very true, you always make it a little rich for the first tank full on a rebild so the rings can seat in :) its just smart thinking;)
