I laughed when you said being over 40 gives you pause in wearing wide-leg jeans. I am over 80, and I wear them. I am taller than you, but age is only a number - I like them, and they look good - It's a great video.
This was great! I’m 60, and when I was in junior high, wide legs were in. We called them “elephant leg” pants, and we HAD to have them. I’m tall and fluffy, and I’m welcoming these new wide legs. Skinny legs are not my friend. But, I think my fashion vision is used to skinny leg pants, and this change to wide is really hard! You’ve given me some direction, I’m going to need to experiment. 😁
I think the white and the blue button up shirts look almost the same except I think the blue one looks a little bit better. I don't think it's a 'not that' at all!
Those jeans look awesome! They do make your legs look a mile long. I love wide-leg everything. So flattering and comfortable. I really don't understand why 5 ft 4 is considered petite when that is the average height of American women. That means half of us are shorter than that. I guess manufacturers think that we can just have pants hemmed, but that really adds to the total cost and is a nuisance to do. I get as many cropped versions as I can, however if I really like an inexpensive full-length pair that's too long, I just get out the scissors and crop the jeans myself. I fray the edges and that's stylish right now too LOL
Q&A: my question is what shoes to wear or how to style wide leg SHORT cropped pants. I appreciate this video but I need to know for shorter pants. I am only 5’ tall.
It is going to be a no purchase year for me. I absolutely hate the wide leg pants, in style or not, I look absolutely dumpy in them. I will wear straight fitted pants. How do we get around this style quirk? Just wait it out? Hopefully something better comes out next year. Help!!
Hi! I loved the duster. My favorite outfit with the wide leg jeans and it was my favorite on you as well. The visual is so helpful! My god, who knew? I imagine these videos are a ton of work. And they are a ton of helpful!! Your friend Kristine
Great video! Love the wide leg jeans and pants but have had problems figuring out how to style them. You showed great options here and You looked really good in the looks. Thank you
I have just bought some wide legend jeans I'm heading towards 70 but I absolutely love them I'm quite tall and quite slightly so thank you for how you have styled them it's a great help.
I am over 50 and wide legs look awesome on me -- or so I hear. Not sure what age has to do with it. Yes, a hunched over, frail woman of 80 may not be suited for the look..... But over "40?" I think we need to raise that ceiling, since it's all about the body, not the chronological age.
I agree it's not about at all but there are some people that do wonder if they can wear certain things over a certain age and this is to just reiterate they certainly can if it works for them.
Great video Jamie! I know it wasn’t your intent but you looked cute in everything 😂. I’m 5’7” and wear a size Large so your visuals helped me tremendously because now I know why I’ve never felt stylish in my one pair of wide leg jeans. I’ve avoided cropped tops because at 75 I don’t want to show skin but I’m finding shorter tops come in a variety of lengths. Your styling tips were subtle but very impactful so it’s back to the dressing for me. Loved this content!
Wow! The elongating effect of the duster outfit with the heels. Looks amazing Jamie. I tend to stick to slim or straight leg styles as I'm petite at 5'1". My widest experiment has been with a boot leg cut, which only looked good with an ankle boot with a heel and a cropped slim fitting jacket. Another great video. Thank you.
Thank you for the great video! I just bought a pair of Kendall and Kylie wide leg jeans at Marshall’s and I’m ready to give them a go! Btw I’m 52 yo and I feel we can continue to be fashion forward at ALL ages! ❤️🎉💕
Midrise Straight leg (on the wider side) ... Check out Old Navy, Gap or Levi's. 😘 I've been (re)embracing the slouchy jeans- Seriously having Deja Vu!!!😏 Once you put them (Back) on... Styling them will all come back (like riding a bike)!!
Wearing current silhouettes and cuts, like wide-leg, straight, bootcut or flared jeans, is the only way to keep a wardrobe looking modern and fresh. Too many older women where I live won’t wear anything but skinnies, it’s really aging. (As are tunics over capri leggings, the worst!). I’m 62, and not a fan of jeans because they’re so hot and uncomfortable, but I always keep a few current, inexpensive pairs, usually one each in white, black and indigo, for occasions when only jeans look right. Ivory jeans are great, too, but I wear white ones more because they work better with my color palette. Pleated lightweight trousers are a nice alternative, worn casually. As my style is very classic, I have to make sure it doesn’t slip into dated frumpy land, so looking current is important.
Amen! I think any wide-leg denim I purchase will be inexpensive or resale. Probably not a lasting style for me (though I do have a few wide-leg trousers I have pulled out this season and think look great). Staying current with denim - within reason - does help keep my style and wardrobe looking better.
Thank you! Great comparisons! They really help to see what works and doesn't. Love the belts. I was a little scared at first (being a plus size and 5' 3"), but have now stocked up and am loving it!
That duster outfit looked fantastic. I liked the other outfits as well but the duster was by far my favourite. I didn't think I would like wide leg jeans, but they look so good on you that I shall have to try some on. I can see why one needs a more fitted top to balance the wider trousers. Thanks Jamie.
First off, the pants are just a little too long, maybe couple inches. What’s with the wrinkling in front tummy area? You were fine in the wine colored sweatshirt. To go out on a chilly night. No flats. A wedge shoe, either winter or summer type. The built up sandles was great. They made the pant length better. I agree you must make sure have right shoes. Those pants are too long for you with flats or sneakers.
I'm 46, and I just bought a black pair. I wear everything in black, it hides things lol. I've got narrow hips, and a flabby tummy after having two kids and a full hysterectomy, and I'm still between a UK size 14-16 in denim and a size 10 in jeggings and leggings
Today I'm wearing dark blue wide leg jeans with a shorter red and white striped sweater with boat neck. My white sneakers or navy Chelsy boots look good with the jeans.
First off 40 is the new 20 50 is the new 30 for some of us the new 20’s 60 is the new 40’s 70 is the new 50’s and the oldest person to have been found alive and independently living is 170 so good Lord woman 40 is still crazy young😘
Just bought a wide leg jean on sale that fits me wonderfully, and the fabric is good. Just couldn't figure how to wear it. A 3 inch high sandal would work I think. The duster looked really pretty. Thanks for all the helpful tips.
I'm short, too, 5'3". I recently tried on some wide leg jeans and immediately said NOPE, not happenin'! I felt like it was too overwhelming for me. So I say let the young ones have them! LOL! But you definitely came up with some good looking outfits!
Hi Jamie. I liked the jeans when you had the heels on but with sneakers just make them jeans pool at the bottom and is don't think they are suppose to look that way. Love your videos.
They pooled some but did not even touch the floor. It is more of a relaxed slouchy look and I think that is okay for me. But I would probably wear them more with heels and like them better that way. Thanks for your thoughts!
I love this video. The contrast of the "what not to wear" withvghe "better " option is so helpful. Sometimes we get dressed and just don't know why the outfit is not working well for us. I would appreciate more of this type of video. Ssme styled different ways. Thank you.
Thank you for your advice ,but I think if you let your hair down and not keep saying age and focus on style, that can even be warned by people over fourtie something it would be better to me .
I didn't think I mentioned age that much in this video. I'll have to go back and rewatch! Age is not that important to me but it is to some of my viewers.
Thank you. You did look very tall in the open blazer and duster cardigan outfits. I wouldn’t have thought of the last option- it was a fantastic idea! Thanks again Ps. I thought you looked great in the brown hoodie.
Levis has a 90s mid rise wide leg jeans.😊 Love the not that version examples your so right the shoe's are very important. I wear a snip toe western boot with wide jeans 😊 The duster looks amazing on you with the jeans. Excellent video!
Wide lag jeans are not for me, but I think the same principles apply to flares. I've bought myself a mid wash blue and a black pair and i love the silhouette both those give me. I've noticed that a bit of a lift on my feet gives me better proportions with the slimmer fit through the waist and thighs. I love all you tips and your videos. I love clothes and trying new styles. At 59 I'm having a lot of fun with all things fashion. You are a great source of knowledge and inspiration to help me stay current, thank you Jamie. ❤
The duster outfit is my favorite. I was in my 20’s in the ‘70’s so I remember it’s clogs, platforms, boots with wide leg or flare leg pants. The hippie style blouses need to be shorter or u would definitely look pregnant or matronly.
Wonderful video on the wider leg jean. I loved both the long cardigan and the blazer (maybe because I own both) While the wider leg is not for me, the options your presented were fabulous. I also must thank you regarding the compression tops at Express. I had never shopped there previously, but because of you I now own 3 tops in neutral shades only and I also purchased a white open front blazer. Thanks so much for the tip! very much appreciated.
Good tips. I know as a petite I have a hard time with wide legs I get overwhelmed. I stick with bootcut or flares to offset my larger chest I have to deal with too. All about balance off proportions I’m finding. 😁
Your outfits look perfect on you for the style you are bringing you look no different that the 20 yr olds in these outfits only thing is the “old” adage that’s all a manufactured mental construct you created for yourself in your own mind and that is sad very unfortunate to have those negative feelings you look young and amazing and look in your late 20’s maybe early 30’s but act like you are in your 80’s that will make you old if that’s what you want that’s what you will be you create your reality with the thoughts of your mind hope this helps😊
I don't think I have negative feelings about my age. I may look in my 20's but I personally don't get anywhere close to dressing like I did in my 20's. Not because I can't, it's just not my preference. Honestly, it's not really about age. It's about what you like to wear at your age.
On petites, full-length wider trousers, worn with heels underneath, can be really lengthening. I can only wear heels under 3”, but still, that gives me some much-appreciated extra “leg length” (5’4.5”, still pining for my youthful height of 5’6” (almost), degenerative disc disease was the thief of that 1.5 inches).
You did great! And yes, you looked like a long column of gal with that long cardigan and heels! Because I have a rather large waist, I am avoiding the high waist, as the rest of the fit is really baggy since I have narrow hips and thighs. I'm sticking to midrise slim fit straight leg or flare/bootcut to appear more proportioned. The skinny jeans gave me the ice cream cone effect unless I added knee high boots for more balance, so I won't miss them much. Thank you for your helpful videos.
I've looked and looked for a video on wide leg jeans. This was super helpful. I'm 32 years old and 5'4. Love casual sweatshirt and sneakers look for day to day and I love adding a nice top with duster/blazer too! Thank you
If I wear a regular sweatshirt or T, I do a front tuck or something to define the smaller waist. I think all of this advice is smaller/tucked, belted, narrower top with wide leg jeans.
I liked the long wide pants. I use to wear them at a younger age. It’s nice to see them back. I like the way they make me look taller(I’m 5’5”). I like wearing them with a heal. I like the over sized blouse with the scarf at the neck. You looked cute in it.
I just have to say for me, I do not like wild leggings in any shape form or fashion. Do those of you that do have at it but I didn’t lose 25 pounds to wear a big bag of looking jean! Thanks for the video
I love all the great outfits! Even though I only wear bootlegs, I liked all the tops that you preferred. Your outfits inspire me every time I see a new video. I have miserably failed the capsule wardrobe challenge because I have way too many clothes. Therefore, I have a difficult time trying to decide what to wear constantly.
This was very helpful! No wide-legged denim has looked good to me this time around (57 yrs old). I think the high rise cuts are just too high for me. I am in the market for a light wash jean as well, and those have not been as flattering on my size 16/18 figure. You’ve given me hope!
Yay! Thanks Elizabeth! You should check out Madwell's jeans. You can now get some of them in a midrise. I don't know how tall you are but they also do petites which makes the rise lover and the hem shorter!
Wide legs look sloppy puddled. Mine just hit the floor in bare feet. Look great with tenners or a high heel sandal or a lower heeled bootie. Longer ones look great with a higher heeled bootie. Bought four pair and live then! I have in a light gray denim, an ecru and blue jeans. I will be wearing them alot. Perfect for crop tops or shirts tucked on. Love the long cardi look!
NYDJ makes a mid rise wide leg that is super cute, fits great and comes in a couple different washes and I believe different lengths as well. They’re more of an ankle length too which I find better in a wide leg just bc there’s a bit less fabric (I’m petite so it matters a little more )
NYDJ fit me funny in the crotch - wish I could wear them. Maybe the wide leg version will fit differently. Lately it also seems like they stretch out really easily too. Anyone else think the NYDJ quality isn’t as good these days?
@@elizabethcampbell2459 these were actually my first NYDJ purchase so I don’t have anything to compare them to but they for sure fit me better than any other jean I’ve tried recently. I’m really happy with them. I bought the wide leg and also a straight leg. They seemed a little on the thinner side maybe but otherwise very good. Curious what others thought as well!
I laughed when you said being over 40 gives you pause in wearing wide-leg jeans. I am over 80, and I wear them. I am taller than you, but age is only a number - I like them, and they look good - It's a great video.
Oh hells bells stop putting an age on fashion. If YOU love it and are comfortable and feel good wear what you want😊
Amen lol

I totally agree with you! It's a big change and is hard to get used to!
Exactly. I'm 46 and I was scared it would make me look like a teen again lol
I work in a Jean shop and wear them for work and I’m 50 🤣 I had all of the worries but now I’m rocking them , I love them and think they look great
Thank you. I'm 61 and I welcome back the wide leg jeans. They're so versatile.
I think the white and the blue button up shirts look almost the same except I think the blue one looks a little bit better. I don't think it's a 'not that' at all!

You looked cute in everything, even the "not this" versions, LOL.
Lol, thank you!
Duster outfit was my favorite, followed closely by the blazer...Both make you look tall and very streamlined! Thanks for another great video!
Scarf is horrible take it off and put on a Modern necklace… The blue shirt is much much better
Hi! I loved the duster. My favorite outfit with the wide leg jeans and it was my favorite on you as well. The visual is so helpful! My god, who knew? I imagine these videos are a ton of work. And they are a ton of helpful!!

Thank you Gail! I fail the capsule wardrobe challenge as well. I like clothing too much and like to have fun and trendy pieces!
So pleased you showed how to wear the graphic tee. I think it's a great youthful look without trying to be "young". Great advice all round.👍
Thanks you! I'm so glad you liked it!
Best outfit was the green blazer! Wide leg jeans are not for me, but you're looking cute!
Thank you!!
Hi i am new to your channel and love it I love your hair its so pretty what do you used in your hair thanks
Thank you! I use Deva Curl Cream and Gel, the Fragrance free ones! I am trying out different shampoos and conditioners at the moment!
The long duster looks awesome. I think heels look best with wide leg bottoms
Thanks! I think they do too.
I enjoyed this video. I found it fun and informative! Thx.
Awesome! Thanks Gail!
Well thought out. I appreciated all the options. Loved the duster!
Thank you!
Maybe try the ‘barrel’ style side leg, it has more taper and overall silhouette
This video was really informative. Love those jeans!!
Thank you!
I agree with your conclusions. Thanks so much!
Thank you!
Sorry for the typos!
Thanks!
No problem!
Didn’t like the scarf but love the duster 😍
Thanks!
NYDJ makes a mid rise wide leg that is super cute, fits great and comes in a couple different washes and I believe different lengths as well. They’re more of an ankle length too which I find better in a wide leg just bc there’s a bit less fabric (I’m petite so it matters a little more )
Oh good to know! I will check them out!
I agree, the green blazer makes you look taller.
Thanks!
The duster look was my favorite!
Thanks!
Blazer and duster looks I really liked!
