I went to a cafe once in the afternoon just to order a glass of wine and people watch. I was actually shocked to see how many looks I got from other patrons. So many "Aw...poor thing, look how sad that is" looks. I thought it might have made me self-conscious, but it actually made me smile. Kind of empowering to know that you're doing something so simple, just for yourself, that scares other people for no reason. I'm happily married, I have friends and family, but sometimes you need to just check in with yourself. Don't be afraid to do stuff on your own! If people stare, its usually only because they are afraid to do the same thing.

That is pretty cool but, isn't people watching kind of staring too? I have this natural temptation to people watch but it feels slightly wrong when I do it for some reason. I also feel kind of weird when I start saying, I have to be away from people for a while, as if, they are so bad as to make my time worse by them being there. Which is especially weird since I spend a lot of my time alone, but I think about that sometimes. I guess that's not an entirely rational thought though -- we want to enjoy people but spending every single second with them isn't the one way to define it of course.
It's really not cool to assume that a person going somewhere alone has a sad life, but I think it would be a bit much to, be just as presumptuous on the other side, and assume that people who stare are scared of you. That seems to imply a strong weakness on their part, if you have the ability to scare them. And it might be true but again I think assuming so quickly isn't a great thing, especially when it's such a bad characteristic that you're assuming. Their staring could just be instinctive, or you just pop out more because unusual things pop out for better or worse -- that doesn't justify what they do, it just means I'm not going to attach horrible, evil intentions to what they're doing either.
In general though, I agree -- oftentimes when a person "feels sad" for someone, this "sadness" implies that it's sad because your life is not like theirs (as if their life is the best way to live).

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. Re-reading my own comment, it does come off as presumptuous on my part to assume that other people are scared to be alone in public. The last thing I wanna be is the douchebag in the corner silently judging everyone, lol. So, I hear ya. I think I was just kind of rambling on without thinking first. I don't think all people are scared to be alone in public. And I should be clear that I don't think it makes me special or anything that I'm comfortable being alone.
But I do think our world is so fast paced these days, and I think time by yourself to be quiet and just let your mind drift is way undervalued. It seems we always have to be DOING something or people will assume you're either lazy/not feeling well/weird. But then to each their own. :)
Yeah I don't want to come across as an ass or anything lol. Because I actually totally agree with you. I just want to keep as open of a mind about people as I can. I think people are judgmental about people going out alone, and they shouldn't be, but ok, I don't think that makes them evil or anything, they just maybe aren't thinking about what they're saying enough. But I would tell those people, try to stop judging obviously.

I'm actually doing very fine now, I don't care about what people think of me anymore, well actually still do but then those thoughts just leave my mind and I'm not really afraid of going to counters and order foods by myself or asking random people for direction. I moved to a new place last year and I guess the people here and the surroundings changed me a bit, I think I used to have a social anxiety but now I'm good. I now can start a conversation with people without being nervous and all but maybe just a lil bit shy but that's all. I'm glad I have changed and all things around me have changed.

A lot of people do things alone. People may look at you but it doesn't mean they are judging you, they may just be staring into space or something. Try not to think of what other people are thinking anyway, because most likely they have more important things on their minds that keeps them occupied.

Dally Sparkles take the small steps then :), sneak out in the middle of the night being all alone near your house, listen to the stars, or sneak in dawn do the same. Try to go to different shops that located near your neighbourhood to look at things you want. You might even explore a small part of any nearby unknown woods/forest but just a small part dont go too far

I’m only 14 too, but I’m pretty tall for my age, so I don’t think anyone would try to kidnap me.
I’m a 5’9 girl, creeps tend to go for shorter weaker people, because they like to feel powerful.
In 2014 I took a year off and traveled to Europe, Japan and the US alone, it was the best experience of my life. My first stop was Paris and Paris syndrome hit me really hard and I found that I need to talk to people, opening myself to everyone and everything.
And then the next stop in London, the best thing happened, it was winter and I wore my TARDIS hat, strangers, Whovians started approaching me instead. People everywhere would randomly tell me I have an amazing hat and like the TARDIS it helped me make friends and companions, bringing me to all sorts of places.
After London I wasn't traveling alone anymore as I made friends I would never have met if I kept to myself and didn't dare to talk to strangers as I was used to. I traveled to Japan with two Japanese friends and then America with a Chinese Whovian, who is now my greatest companion.

stop caring about the stressful people so much and you won't have anything to stress about... also life's about being stressed, happy, sad, excited, anxious, basically every emotion. Don't take things so seriously cause the things you worry about are probably not as big of a deal as you make it. just learn to let go of the things that stress you a.s.a.p and remember how much better life is with loved ones :)

Well not everyone cooperates.. Most people like to cooperate but some people just need break from it. Like when shopping with more people it's very expensive. I just love being alone because I can have my own space for once and relax by just walking around my neighborhood, playing music, or just dancing! Being alone is just inspires you to do something crazy because no one is watching you.
I'm just like you. My advice is also try to undestand them and adapt to how others are. That way you'll get used to it. Even if it's stressful to keep up with, it's still better than having the chance of getting angry

I admit I was so scared at a nature park all alone once..I was scared to climb atop of the bird watch tower as there was no one around and the sign said ' beware of snakes on trees'
The second time I went by myself I climbed the tower getting past my fear and what a lovely experience it was...looking at the lake below and listening to sounds of birds..

I do it frequently and usually the other diners are paying attention to their food & the people they're with. The staff see people eating alone all the time & they see so many people that they won't even remember you. I've never once gotten a weird look while eating alone & I know when I'm out eating with family or friends we never observe the other diners.

I have learned that people are generally more concerned with not looking stupid themselves than they are with how you act. So feel free to be yourself!
when you're a teen but don't have any money and you have friends who invite you places but you're always stuck with your siblings and your mom and dad are working late all the time and your mom thinks it's because you don't like to go outside or have any close friends, which is somewhat true, but you actually do want to do these things and sad truth is that you could but you can't because of stupid reasons. Plus your only best friend is away and won't be back until summer. Plus you always get invited places but instead of just asking and going like a normal teen, you have to check the whole family schedule to see if your free. Sometimes I legit hate my life and the worst thing is that people have it waaaaay worse.
