Watch yourself like you’re watching a stranger, You watch what you say and you listen, and think:
What sort of person would say that and how am I reacting emotionally when I’m communicating in that manner?
Is it making me stronger or weaker?
Is it filling me with shame?
Is it filling me with confidence?
Am I laying out a lie am I deceiving myself and other people?
Am I adopting this personality at parties that is designed to impress and amuse and comes across as nothing but self-centered and narcissism?
    What are my dark fantasies?
    What are my aggressive fantasies?
What is it that I’m willing to do?
What am I interested in so that I will spontaneity pursue it?
What do I procrastinate about and why?
What am I unwilling to do?
What do I think is good?
What do I congratulate myself for accomplishing?
And what do I berate myself for failing to confront and implement?
I wrote these down so that I can ask myself and see what the answers are. I hope you do the same!

Me too. 4 years of taxes. My husband used to do it. He developed frontotemporal dementia and recently died. I simply didn't have the brain power or the courage to face that mess. I've been overwhelmed.
I've been listening to these recordings for a several months now. I've listened to at least one lecture a day.. Sometimes many..
      The taxes were my "elevator."
To face my terror of the damn taxes. I started with simply opening the cardboard boxes of receipts. I'd just look inside and then close the box. Eventually I could take some out and really look at them. Then I could take a few out of the box and sort/categorize them.
      My courage grew exponentially.
Two weeks ago I met with my accountant and got all 4 years filed. The relief I feel at finally having this frightening responsibility completed cannot be overstated.
I credit J. Peterson for getting me through this.

    • @cloudybrains
      @cloudybrains 4 года назад +24

@@Dany-zf9bk It means we take things about ourselves for granted, like thinking that you're a nice person, that you're honest and caring, without really questioning if we are as great as we think we are.
A specific example for me would be confidence. As a big fish in a small pond, you would naturally feel very sure of yourself and confident. But as soon as you step out of your comfort zone and your "bubble", you might realize that your level of confidence was dependent on your environment being simple and stale. That's one of the things I realized about myself recently, I've grown too big for my fishbowl.

This man has taught me so much. I’m 77. And only now I’ve realised that I’m a people pleaser, afraid of abandonment. A result of being in an isolation hospital for 6 weeks without explanation. I thought I’d been given away. This has coloured my whole life. So now I know it what do I do. The fear is still there. I was three years old in that hospital. I remember everything.

The tragedy of Professor Peterson is that...he has touched almost every person he as come into contact with in a positive way. And yet... his personal life isn't even the best, he has his issues and ignores them to help others, its selfless. He doesnt do it for attention or reputation, he does it because he sees problems and he wants to help us fix it. He has wisdom, knowledge, experience. Hes noble, humble, extraordinary. One day I wish to fill his shoes, I'm still trying...

One of the most important things with growing is first choosing your center / foundation. Because you can try to learn who you are and try to grow, but unless you have a firm foundation upon which to build and a center upon which to lean on during the hard time, you'll likely see many of your efforts toppled.
Additionally, a foundation / center isn't something someone "discovers" about themselves. It is indeed a conscious choice. And some foundations are stronger than others.

THIS. This is exactly what I discovered for myself. This is what I did to find myself and get myself out of the whole that I dug up. I had a way of calling it: “Looking at yourself from an unbiased perspective.” I’m so glad that what I did for myself, that I didn’t read or hear from someone or some article or video, is something that actually works not just for me but for other people as well. Although I was in a lot of pain, being alone most of my life so far made it really easy to do this. I sometimes wonder if I am a special case of humble. I seem to shock the people around me and when people describe me one of the most common words is humble. Everyone around me says it’s so hard to be humble, but I don’t know I just feel like it’s second nature to me to the point where I don’t think I know what being humble really feels like. It’s just who I am. So in order to find your true self, I feel like being humble is the key. Jordan you’re amazing, keep being amazing.

Contrasting that with the many critics and antagonistic interviewers he's dealt with, I'm aware that these people offer nothing to others, but rather they take, they attempt to destroy but give nothing in exchange. JP is a giver, and the offering is of great value.
