  • I finally got my hands on some P30 in 120! I was quite pleased with the results I was getting with this film in 35mm, I couldn't wait to to get out with a roll, and the RB67. I met up with a friend who brought along his 1947 red Canadian Mercury! Not only did I shoot some P30, but I also went through a roll of Pan F, and Delta 400. I wanted to compare each films' rendering of red, to see if there was much of a difference. All films were developed in Barry Thornton 2-Bath.

    The films were exposed at:
    P30 EI 32
    Pan F EI 25
    D400 EI 250

I like the P30 the most. The deep black look when shooting red.

I, like the P30--just makes the car pop against the lighter background. Then again, I tend to prefer an older look, and that may be part of the reason for the preference as well.

    The packaging looks like FOMA

I agree with your choice of preferable films ; Pan F and P30. Pan F is the best all around film, but P30 could me taken advantage of in many situations. Load two backs!

Pan F all the way. I am also surprised that the P30 being an Ortho film did not show more shadow detail.

    I preferred the Pan F.

I love Pan F, even just for the sparkle it can give to an image.

Looks like P30 leans toward being orthochromatic. (less red sensitivity). True?

Yes, it has less sensitivity to red. I did a comparison video recently. ruclips.net/video/bumtlKYN134/видео.html and a comparison with Ferrania Orto ruclips.net/video/UsbS2QTkVnE/видео.html

The packaging is quite similar to that of Foma films. The film wrap, the backing paper and the box with a 'flap'.

I've got some Foma in the fridge. I'll take a look, thanks! The packaging took me back to when I first got into photography, back in about '91. Thanks!

I like the Pan F shots the most, as the dark red isnt so black on the neg as P30 is.

Hard to beat Pan F in many situations, but P30 has the look that I like, especially in this situation. I was disappointed with D400, though, as it's one of my favourite emulsions.

Great Job ! panF and p30 are spectacular. I tried the p30 (35mm) in rodinal 1:50 with good result but i never use Barry thorntorn 2 bath. In this test do you shoot all the films (p30, panf , delta 400) at their nominal iso speed ( 80-50-400 iso)?

    • @analogueandy8x10
      @analogueandy8x10  11 месяцев назад

Sorry, I forgot to include that in the video. 😔 I shot P30 at EI 32, Pan F at EI 25, and D400 at EI 250. I added it to the video description. Did you shoot P30 at 80 with Rodinal? I'd be curious to hear/see your results. Thanks!

@@analogueandy8x10 thanks ! i made a test in 35mm with multiple exposure in different light. Ei 80 is too contrast and with rodinal 1:50 for 12 minutes and with rodinal classic agitation i have poor shadow information. Ei 40 metered for shadow is a base point . i have a good example in a sunny day in a race track.
Now i have to test 120 p30. EI 40 for base exposure and a different scheme of agitation , more time but more stand mode to work on the shadow.

Apparently, Ferrania is working on, or has a version of P30 that is closer to EI 100. The increased speed would be nice, as long as it doesn't effect the look of the film! Cheers!@@orecchiedilupo

@@analogueandy8x10 i live in italy and i meet Nicolo Baldini . Ferrania is working on a p33 , a real 160 iso pancromatic and in a future p36 , a real 320 iso. I believe that they are improving p30 . If you want i send you the race track p30 photo ... i can.'t do it in this chat 😵 ... the chat don't let me do it .

This is great! I really like the way you’ve done this. Your framing for each film type is spot on so it’s easy to see the subtle differences. It makes me very happy that I stocked up on PanF film not too long ago.. but now, I too want to try P30 in 120 format. Thank you!

I'll let Brad know. He loves that car and uses it pretty much as his main vehicle. He worked quite a bit on it. You should see his hot rod that he restored! P30 is a unique film in a category of its own! I'm hoping it'll come out in sheet film sizes!
