Thanks for this video! I believe that Retro 400S (my go-to infrared film) and Rollei Infrared (as well as CatLABS X Film 320 and JCH StreetPan 400!!!) are also the same emulsion, but I recently saw the Naked Photographer's analysis of Retro 400S and it seemed to be terribly pushed, so now I'm wondering if it isn't also, in fact, actually Agfa Aviphot Pan 80 too...

And for Retro 80S at 80, try Rodinal 1:150 for 20 minutes with standard agitation
Now that explains why when I shot rpx25 at 100asa and stand developed on Rodinal I got 38 perfectly exposed negatives!

Another good developing scheme for RPX 25 is Rodinal 1:120 for 14 minutes at 18°C with standard agitation. It helps keep the contrast down a bit more.
Both the RPX25 and 80S are Superpanchromatic, the original APX25 was an Orthopanchromatic film. Completely different spectral response characteristics.
Agfa's data sheet for APX25 suggests it was normal panchromatic film, with sensitivity drop off around 650nm.

So 'Rollei' knowing that Pulling it to ASA/ISO 25, it obviously provided better latitude. Therefore, they renamed it RPX 25...

Most sources say Rollei Retro 400S is Agfa Aviphot 400S, which itself is now discontinued (as far as I can tell), so Rollei must be selling remaining stock. Not sure how much use there is in testing/demystifying a discontinued film... FWIW, other (probably in some way related) films like Rollei Infrared and JCH StreetPan are also nearing discontinuation.

You can also compare Rollei Ortho 25 plus and Ilford Ortho plus 80. I am 99% sure they also are the same film :D
Hmmm, that's a tricky one - it's not typical for Ilford to sell rebranded film made by others nor to allow their premium films (i.e. not Kentmere) to be rebranded. Might test them at some point!

Cheers, Alex! HR-50 is an interesting one, it's almost certainly a pre-flashed Aviphot 80/Retro 80S/RPX 25, with a very nice bump in shadow detail and smoother contrast. Crying shame they don't make it in 120 - perhaps the pre-flashing takes place after cutting master rolls into 35mm...
HR-50 is the same as Scala 50, just as Silvermax 100 and Scala 160 were the same

Great content. Lol I felt lied by Rollei marketing, but overall it makes sense that some folks that are not much into all film techical stuff will find the difference between 80's and RPX25.

I have my doubts here. The spectral sensitivity for both of these films tells a different story. While similar, they’re definitely not identical.
Nice comparison. I have both RPX25 & Retro 80S in 120 and was comparing the datasheets the other day to see their IR sensitivity, and noticed they were pretty similar, although Rollei rendered the spectral sensitivity charts differently, making them look different, which I thought was odd at the time. Too bad my last roll of Retro 80S had pretty severe print-through from the backing paper :( Will have to try out the remaining 80S & RPX25 and hope they fare better.

Very interesting... How would the RPX-25 IR capabilities compare with IR400?
the only reason I have some Retro 80s in the fridge, because I wanted to shoot some IR and the Retro will give some wood effects if shot through a 715 nm filter.
Has anyone checked, if RPX25 also offers the same results if shot through such a filter?
I shot plenty of RPX 25 with R72 and 695nm filters, didn't notice any difference compared to Retro 80S and would be surprised if there is any with the 715nm filter 😉

Thanks for watching! The problem with RPX 400 is that I'd have to test it against a whole bunch of 400 films, not just Kentmere... But then again, I'm not one to shy away from a challenge 😉
I would like to know what Rollei RPX 400 is; I have heard it is maybe the same as Kentmere 400
Especially now that both Kentmere and RPX films are available in 120, this is indeed an interesting question!

RPX400 is likely similar to Agfa's APX400. Kentmere 400 is different, according to the Naked Photographer. They might all be made at Harman, but different emulsions.
I feel pretty cheated having bought RPX 25 several times.
