this is so cute 💌 i started being interested in knitting when i was 10 years old too. my grandma and my bought me a lot of needles so i could choose which one is the best for me. now i'm 17 and i started again. i forgot it a little so i was not very determined at very first. you made me remember about my grandma that passed away recently. now i'm more determined to knit better. i hope your daughter never loses her interest. thank you, respectfully ❤️🩹
that’s such a sweet story I am also 10 and I have been crocheting from RUclips tutorials but I have always wanted to knit as well this tutorial seems pretty easy to follow so I’m going to try this as soon as I get the knitting needles!
Ahh this makes sense! I am a crocheter and I always love the stitches that most closely resemble knitting. But I think with this tutorial I can just actually KNIT something. Thanks!
tried knitting when I was a child but ended up preferring crochet, guess what? I am sixty and have tried knitting English style as I was taught, but didn't enjoy it so decided to watch your videos and yay I love the way you knit and purl continental style and am enjoying it immensely; I am starting to get a bit faster and my tension is good, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for your very clear instructions.
This makes me so happy for you! Thank you for taking the time to let me know that this method really worked for you and I'm so glad that you found my video easy to follow. Continental style was definitely the ticket for me too. Enjoy your new knitting skill - what fun!
I literally said "Oh!" when I saw you hold the yarn in your left hand! I'm a crocheter and one of the hardest parts of knitting for me has always been holding the yarn in my right hand. I'm so excited to try this!
Don't give up! I have been crocheting since I was 7 and it took me many failed attempts to teach myself to knit. It's worth sticking with it! I have a video on my channel with some tips for crocheters learning to knit. You might find it helpful. :-)
I learned to crochet first. My great-grandmother--Nana--taught me when I was around 8 or 9. I crocheted off and on for years until I learned to knit at the age of 11 or 12 at a library class. The way that I knit is just like you described! I thought that I had made something up because I was doing it differently than the other people I saw and the books I read. It wasn't until recently that I was told that I was knitting in a way that was "okay". The lady called it the German style.
This looks like the perfect solution for how I could learn to knit!!! Thank you!! I have been a crocheter for several years now and just haven't been able to crack knitting at all. Exactly as you stated the muscle memory is far more comfortable with my yarn in my left hand!! Thank you for posting!!!
Wow! I never heard of continental style knitting, cool! I'm one of those people that has been crocheting for years - it's so much easier for me than knitting. It looks like this is something I should try. Thank you for sharing this interesting technique.
Bita Arabian you're welcome! That's awesome that you've crocheted for so long. I actually almost gave up on knitting until I found some good videos, and I loved the continental style! It made all the difference for me. Thanks for the kind words about the video!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. im neuro divergent and learning new crafts make me so happy! ive been trying to knit for over a year but couldnt get the hang of it, til u came along!!
thank you for this video! ive been crocheting for years (self taught) and have tried to teach myself to knit but my hands felt so awkward with two needles and holding the thread. your video is so easy to follow and such a great pace for me. thank you! ♡
My grandmothers taught me to crochet as a child. I have always wanted to knit and began to learn a few years ago. This makes so much sense to me! Thanks for helping me to use my crochet-brain and muscle memory to transition into a new skill.
My first intermediate crochet pattern, I got from you. Now you've shown me how to knit. I'm off to buy a couple more patterns from you. Thank you so much!
I never tried knitting because I always thought it was harder than crochet. Now that I've watched this video and read the comments, I'm definitely sticking to crochet 😂♥️
Thank you so much! As a crocheter, knitting has been a crazy kind of chaos that I’d try and give up on repeatedly over the years. Stuck in bed after an injury with lots of yarn and the resolve that I’m GOING to finally figure this out, and with your awesome video, I’m super quickly doing it! 🎉 It wasn’t even frustrating after watching your instruction! Many, many thanks!
Thank you! It's make more sense! I started crochet in February now it nearly the end of October, I want to learn how to knit and some other videos doesn't help but this does! Thank you!
This is the absolute BEST video to learn knit stitch I've tried. After giving up on how the 'toss your yarn over' knitting style, because it ALWAYS looked messy to me, this works! I can crochet most anything, with any size hook, and Tunisian is a breeze, but really wanted to learn to knit. Now I am off to try your triangle start...woo-hoo!!
so! my mom taught me to crochet when i was about 7, and ive been doing it for years, and one of my teachers had a mom who used to knit and crochet. and had a half finish project before she passed away, so my teacher wants to relearn how to crochet/ knit, but the original pattern she sent me is knitting, so im trying to knit and this video is really helpful!! thank you so much!!
@@mamainastitch literally the first time I tried knitting I (about a year ago now) I ended up crying coz I used metal needles, which I now know are more slippery compared to the wooden needles. And funny thing is, that if the pattern my teacher sent me was crocheting I would have probably never picked up a knitting needle again. But I was determined to do this, because I’m also really close to my mom, so I wanted to do this for her, so far I’m doing good :) I only messed up a little bit on my first attempt at the pattern because I spaced out and just kept doing the same stitch for a few rows. But as I say for all my art, it’s a new characteristic of this particular piece
Jessica, what a great idea. I’m trying to learn to knit (I’m a crocheter as well) and find continental makes more sense for us crocheters too. I think it may be because we are used to touching the yarn more than not. The other way seems like so much extra work. I can’t wait to try your way. Thanks for posting this video!😊
This really helped me with "strangle it" part of knitting My only question left is how am i supposed to Scoop the yarn up with a smooth blunt stick? I keep failing and failing at this part
My recommendation to new knitters is to 1.learn continental style 2. do your own double pointed needles from bamboo sticks 3.make a hook shape to one tip of the needle and sandpaper them to give them soft slipping surface 4.use hooktips for pulling the yarn. I wish I knew all these at the beginning. Low cost, no hand wrist pain and fast knitting! That is all
This was so helpful! I’m a crocheter who’s starting to get the knitting bug. Other vids have suggested to me that continental style might work for me. I hope you do more on this line. New sub, by the way. Thanks!
Oh, I wish I had learned it this way as a kid. I favor crocheting, and I awkwardly taught myself how to knit. I just can't get this, lol! I'll keep trying 😊
do you have a video/tutorial on how to crochet if you're a knitter? i find it very difficult to wrap my head around. Thanks, love your blankets and sweaters
I sort of taught myself how to knit, using one of those knitting for beginner books (I've been crocheting for decades). I do use the continental style of knitting, because that's what I'm used to for crocheting. I also know Tunisian Crochet. I know how to cast on, I know how to do the knit stitch, and how to do the purl stitch, but I have developed a peculiar tension problem that NO KNITTER( and I have asked quite a few that have been knitting for years!) has been able to figure out, or help me fix. I'm hoping maybe you can, since you are a crocheter that also knits. What I have noticed, as I'm knitting along, is the length of yarn BETWEEN each stitch gets longer and longer. I try to tighten my stitches to compensate, but it doesn't really work. By the time I get to the last stitch in my row, the last loop on my needle is somewhere between double to triple the size of the other loops of the previous stitches. For the life of me (and every other knitter I've met), I can't figure out how, or why this happens. Do you have any ideas? If I need to, I can make a video of my knitting attempts, for you to watch, once I figure out how to upload to RUclips! And thanks for any assistance you can give me!
I have been crocheting for many years, and with all the different types of yarn I have bought, kept etc. I want to try and knit. After watching this video; I think I can do it. But now I need some needles! What do you recommend? I seen so many different sizes at the shop. I don't know what to get. I'd like to make beanies or wash cloths.
My only question: is it really worth trying? 😂 Haha, I'm very content in crochet land and afraid that struggling with knit will mess up my stride... 😂 Great video. Someone tried to teach me knitting once, and I don't know who failed worse, her or me 😂
i mainly wanted to learn because knitting only uses up two thirds of the yarn that crochet does, and the fabric is less thick and stiff.. but the hand motions of crocheting are more enjoyable for me
This was very easy to understand but will this work if I do it the other way?? (I mean use my left hand??) I need a tutorial like this for left handed people 😅
