  • In lesson 1 I show you how to work a slip knot to get you started in crochet, and how to chain. Try to work neatly, creating small V shapes and practice before this before moving on, as it will save you so much time later on.

Im literally crying because I got a crochet kit for Christmas and I’ve been trying to do a slit knot and other things but nothing is helping because I don’t understand- it’s so annoying because I’ve been wanting to start crocheting for ages and now I can’t even do 1 knot it’s annoying and just sad and everyone is saying this is the best one they have found but I don’t understand anything.

Pause the video when you need to, and just enjoy taking it slowly and watching the video closely, and make sure that with your right hand you're able to hold the hook with your thumb and middle finger in same place but on either side of the hook, with your pointer finger on top of the hook. That way, your pointer finger helps hold the hook while your thumb and middle finger can pich the slip knot. And what this form of stitching does is it elongates the tail end (short piece of yarn) from the top, since each time your adding a tiny loop to the top. It should start to look like a thin braid. You got this!:)

Thank you, very much. I've been looking for clear, concise videos for beginners. Personally I've been crocheting for 52 years, but I know a lot of Beginners who are overwhelmed by all the 'beginner' videos on RUclips. I thought it would be a good idea to scan through the videos and pick the ones I thought were good. I love what you've done here. :-)

I love crocheting so I am starting over and I find this video very helpful with how far to slide the yarn over the needle once it has been pulled throgugh the loop.

Thank you. You are an awesome teacher. I kept getting stuck on doing the first part of the chain. All everyone kept saying is wrap the yarn around the hook and then pull it through the loop. My yarn kept falling off and I could not get it through the loop. What made the difference was your simple direction to wrap the yarn around the loop, turn face down as you pull the loop through.Thank you. I've now did a chain of 10. So simple but it made all the difference.

Thanks for such a thorough video for newbies. I've been trying to teach myself from videos, countless books or learn from other friends over the years to no avail off and on for years. This recent polar vortex grounded me indoors and from sheer boredom I decided to give it another shot. This video is amazing and had I found it in the beginning I believe I would have had much better success. Thanks for this series.
I'm currently practicing the slipknot and the chain. Is there some trick to keeping consistent tension on the project or is this just to come with practice?

this was the MOST helpful video for me!!! i realized you have to hook through the hidden loop, the speed of the tutorial was great as well

This is so helpful, thank you! I made the mistake of starting with a 'easy' hat video and tried doing the chain many times not knowing why I was just pulling the original slipknot instead of creating a chain. This video is very easy to understand

    Me -ok this looks easy
    Me -again this is easy
My hook- nope I am not going to let you do it I’m to small for this yarn
    Me- I give up

Remember the most important part of crocheting is remaining calm and determined! Some things will come easier to some people than others it doesn't mean the people who need more help are stupid or failures it just means they need more help and that's okay cause eventually they'll learn to create beautiful things with just a ball of yarn and their own two hands😁😁

hani_chan desu you can use any hook just use yarn that suits the hook. Search it on the Internet and you might have a table pop up
      For example:
3.5 mm - 4.00 mm hook Double knit yarn
