Just to put this out there, because I made a silly mistake and I suppose others might make the same: Make sure you make your slip knot the right way round. I did it the wrong way, which made it tighten when I pulled on the short end and it was nearly impossible to get past that first stitch...
@Hannat Balogun I assume you figured it out by now, but you gotta make the loop with the other end of the yarn. I don't know by heart which side, so I keep messing it up but then I can correct myself xD But like, if you make a loop with a short end and a long end (where the rest of the yarn is), you gotta put another loop through it and you can make that loop with either the long side or the short side and one of them is correct xD
@@lela5894 you can also just do the first loop with your fingers and then hook the second onto your crochet needle. It's kind of cheating, but you will be able to go on from there xD
I love that she showed how to unravel the first piece of yarn. I was struggling to find the end but she was so confident when she did it that I realized that naybe the firs piece goes into the yarn itself.
I have wanted to learn how to crochet for ages just never gave it a try until today. Your videos and instructions are so clear. The chain was a bit of a struggle but I finally did it. Going to practice before I move on to the next step! Thank you so much x
For those struggling with the slipknot, watch at 0.5x speed. There's a point where the yarn goes to the other finger which I was missing. Very clear when slowed down
Thank you for explaining so well and slowly! Other instructors move so fast, it's hard to track my eyes with what's happening to the yarn and hook, but you do a nice job of making sure the viewer has plenty of chance to see all of the steps.
Aha, GOT IT! 😃 The part about holding the loop at the bottom to get the tension wasn’t explained well in another channel’s video and I ended up stuck trying to figure out how to actually get the yarn moving. This video put me on the right track and I managed to get an itty bitty practice chain going in about 15 minutes! Thank you! 🙏
Have been crocheting for 30+ years. Great video! She shows beginners how to wrap the yarn around their little and pointer fingers! Notice that her little finger opens and closes a little bit sometimes. The little finger controls the flow of yarn to either; remain the same, slow down, or speed up. If you think you’re crocheting too loosely tighten up your little finger a bit. If you think you’re crocheting too tightly, open your little finger a bit and relax your shoulders. An indentation on your pointy finger means you’re either crocheting too tightly or your yarn is rough/scratchy.
I have tried and failed several times to learn to crochet and am ecstatic that I am now looking at my first line of successful crochet stitches, all thanks to your really clear, step, by step teaching. I even managed to convert them for my being left handed. Looking forward to the next video when I'm a bit more practised. Thanks so much!
Your very welcome, I do all the beginner tutorials in left handed as well so if you check me out on youtube and type in bella coco crochet for beginners left handed they will come up in a list. Hope this helps 🙂
I just found out that I am going to be a Grandma in late April 2021. So I want to start making blankets and clothes for my grandchild. Yeah!. We knitted and crocheted back when I was a girl in grade school. We made items, mainly blankets, some girls in the older grades made socks and sweaters, we sent it off to the War effort in Vietnam. I did make a few items for my children when they were babies, but that was over 45 years ago now. So I needed to brush up on the techniques. This internet and RUclips channel is really something,, it's been especially wonderful during this Global pandemic. Thankyou so much for sharing your video's here. Now on to the next stage. ✌❤🧶👍 😎🇨🇦🐈
Absolutely the best video on crocheting for an absolute beginner like myself. I’ve watched numerous videos this chain knot thing and couldn’t get it and started to lose interest in crocheting until this video. It was so easy to understand the chain knot that made me wonder why I couldn’t get it from other videos. Anyway I’m excited to watch more of her videos and learn more. But first I am going out to shop for yarns.
Thank you SO much for this video! I am a knitter and wanted to learn how to crochet. I bought a learn to crochet kit that comes with video's to learn, well those videos sucked! The instructor was explaining and showing the single crochet( i am from us), but whatever she was showing, my chain was getting all twisted and looked like a tangled MESS! I was getting very frustrated and wanted to give up. Then I found your tutorial...AWESOME you made this fun for me to learn, I picked it up right away. Thank you.
Omg I've nailed this class. Previously, I couldn't even do the slip knot from the step by step diagrams in booklet thingy I got with my crochet hooks. Now I'm cooking on gas. Going to my next class now. 🏃🏻♂️💨 See you all at lunch.
I have never crocheted. I started watching your videos & then actually having a go & I'm obsessed! Just made the poppy & I'm really pleased with myself. Your videos are easy to follow & I can't wait to do more. Thank 💕 you
I remember watching this over 2 years ago completely clueless about crochet but since then I’ve improved so much since if I haven’t seen this video I would’ve given up on crochet by now
It can be tricky to get the hang of it at first - you need to hold onto the bottom of the slip knot as you are yarning over so it makes it easier to pull through 😊
Thank you!! I have had a crochet kit scene last Easter 😅 Me and my dad couldn’t get the first stitch so we gave up, and kind of forgot about it But with a video it’s WAY easier. I’m planing on getting new yarn so I can make more things!
Thanks for explaining from the absolute beginning, I’m doing bag Mats for homeless people and haven’t been able to find an instructional video that didn’t start from the middle, you totally rock chick! Thank you, I appreciate you.
I'm so glad that they have been of help to you, remember that crochet is practice and patience so the more you do the easier it will get. Good luck and let me know how you get on :)
What the heck. This is so simple. Why the heck did I think it was one of the most complex things ever. I LOVE IT OMG??? New special interest unlocked, this will be so useful for doing projects with my recycled yarn. Thank you, you are amazing and have a great day.
For anyone who is struggling right now I know how you feel I was really having a hard time last week but I didn’t give up and now I’m doing super good so my message to you is don’t give up and you can do hard things just keep trying you got this 😊
Oh my goodness this was the fourth "learn to crochet" video that I tried and I was just about ready to give up as it just wasn't working for me but FINALLY IT MAKES SENSE!!!! Seems I just needed to find the right way of holding the yarn that would work for me 😊 Excited to start turning my chain into a square now ❤
I’ve had enough today 😂 it was hard at first but I got the hang of it! I did a few stitches then restarted then did a few more to just practice and it did help! I only just realised that I have a crochet hook that is yours! It says Bella Coco on the side!
Ik this is 8 months later, but your comment is genuinely encouraging to me. I've been having a lot of trouble and seeing all the "it was so easy" comments have really discouraged me. I'll keep practicing and try and get the hang of it too :) This is a very good video
Thank you for making these simple to understand, I've been trying to teach myself to crochet for more than 5yrs. I've now chained 56 and done 4rows of DC and 4 rows of TC. I'm so pleased with myself lol . 😀😀
The thing is I have some anger issues so I get irritated really easily and I brake things when I get mad so I can’t really do any “crafts” because I get irritated and I just destroy everything:(
Thank you for this video. I Googled how to tie a slip knot and a selection of this video, dedicated to how to tie a slip knot, came up. I liked how you did it slowly, and explained what you were doing as you it. Thanks for taking the time to make this!💙
Who else literally just tries gets angry then literally throws it across the room cries and tries again and just gets so angry and literally just starts crying really hard and getting really angry
You have to remember that crochet is practice and patience so the more you do the easier it will become, if you find yourself getting frustrated then put your work down and go back to it either later or the next day. Good luck with your crochet journey :)
I'm not getting past the slip knot - every time I try to yarn over, the slip knot goes so tight, I can't get my yarn through it. You make it look so simple, but for me it's a nightmare! (absolute, and I mean ABSOLUTE beginner and 62 year old bloke to add to that!!!) Just fancied trying something different...
It sounds as though your tension is too tight - it's just a case of keeping the slip knot fairly loose and not tightening it too much, and also using your thumb and middle finger to hold the base of the chain and pull down slightly as you make the chain stitches (you can see how I do this in the video). Other than that it really is just a case of practise makes perfect and I'm sure you'll get there in the end. Well done for trying a new skill! Good luck! 🙂
@@bellacococrochet Thank you - getting the hang of the slip knot by holding it now! This all started with my wife having to knit poppies for her WI group. I had this idea of crotcheting some, so I found your Poppy Tutorial vid... I've managed the 4 chains and a loop through the first stitch (about 25 times so far) then it all goes to pot... :D

Thank you so much! This video was great, I was always so frustrated because I couldn’t figure out how to hold the yarn and hook comfortably and in control. This really helped!
As a 12 year old this helped a lot understanding how chains are made!!! My stitches look really bad but I made something lol. Thanks so much, this made me become a crocheter now...well maybe a little. I still need a lot of practice, and thank you again!!! Love your videos ❤️

@@lela5894 you can also just do the first loop with your fingers and then hook the second onto your crochet needle. It's kind of cheating, but you will be able to go on from there xD

Me confused AF 😂
I love that she showed how to unravel the first piece of yarn. I was struggling to find the end but she was so confident when she did it that I realized that naybe the firs piece goes into the yarn itself.
I'm here preparing for the new year lockdown ☺️
Well it’s here hate it
I have wanted to learn how to crochet for ages just never gave it a try until today. Your videos and instructions are so clear. The chain was a bit of a struggle but I finally did it. Going to practice before I move on to the next step! Thank you so much x
You are very welcome and remember that crochet is practice and patience so the more you do the easier it will become :)
i love slipknot, such a good band
For those struggling with the slipknot, watch at 0.5x speed. There's a point where the yarn goes to the other finger which I was missing. Very clear when slowed down
oh my god thank you so much! I was struggling and about to cry 😭 God bless you and have a good day
@@pinkqqqhaha no problem! I was there too!
BLESS YOU. So helpful!!
That’s brilliant!!!
Or tie a slip not the other way, the simple way lol.
Thank you for explaining so well and slowly! Other instructors move so fast, it's hard to track my eyes with what's happening to the yarn and hook, but you do a nice job of making sure the viewer has plenty of chance to see all of the steps.
You're very welcome :)

Ok
Aha, GOT IT! 😃 The part about holding the loop at the bottom to get the tension wasn’t explained well in another channel’s video and I ended up stuck trying to figure out how to actually get the yarn moving. This video put me on the right track and I managed to get an itty bitty practice chain going in about 15 minutes! Thank you! 🙏
You are very welcome :)

I'm so glad it was helpful :)
Thank you.
You are very welcome and well done for not giving up :)
Thank 💕 you
You are very welcome and well done :)
Trash
I remember watching this over 2 years ago completely clueless about crochet but since then I’ve improved so much since if I haven’t seen this video I would’ve given up on crochet by now
Congrats! Love the pfp by the way
I cant even get the first stitch my yarn womt go through the slipnot it just slides to the top of the hook :((
It can be tricky to get the hang of it at first - you need to hold onto the bottom of the slip knot as you are yarning over so it makes it easier to pull through 😊

Me too bro me too
yah same I am an 8 years old kid so it's hard for me
Yea I had that promblem too but it’s okay now but I still a noob
Thank you for this beginners video. You just made my daughters day. And mine too. It’s so nice to see her loving something other than video games.
You are very welcome :)
You have the same name as my dad n I'm obsessed w video games 😳
Oh wait it says brent micheal nvm
Thanks mom. You’re a star!
You're welcome :)
Thank you!! I have had a crochet kit scene last Easter 😅
Me and my dad couldn’t get the first stitch so we gave up, and kind of forgot about it
But with a video it’s WAY easier. I’m planing on getting new yarn so I can make more things!
You are very welcome and good luck, remember that crochet is practice and patience :)
WHEN I SAW YOU DO THE FIRST CHAIN I ATTEMPTED AND DID IT!! THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!! ❤️
You're welcome :)

i’ve seen so many video and this one was the only one that i actually learned thank you !!
You are very welcome :)
Guys dont give up!
I took the 'be nice to your yarn' advice from the comments and it works with some patience
Alhamdulillah
Thanks for explaining from the absolute beginning, I’m doing bag Mats for homeless people and haven’t been able to find an instructional video that didn’t start from the middle, you totally rock chick! Thank you, I appreciate you.
You're very welcome 🙂
Hi, was wondering if u could show us how u made those bag mats. Would be interested in doing the same thing :)
She makes it look so easy!
Who's learning crochet to make Harry Styles' sweater ?

I've been *attempting* to learn to crochet and this is my go to channel for it. I love how you explain everything so nicely.
I'm so glad that they have been of help to you, remember that crochet is practice and patience so the more you do the easier it will get. Good luck and let me know how you get on :)
@@bellacococrochet Thank you! I can now do this step easily and am in episode/step two now.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what my late stepmother taught me twenty years ago, and I just couldn't remember. 💗
You are very welcome :)
I did it straight away 😃😃😃 I don't even know how to crochet!
Well done :)
What the heck. This is so simple. Why the heck did I think it was one of the most complex things ever. I LOVE IT OMG??? New special interest unlocked, this will be so useful for doing projects with my recycled yarn. Thank you, you are amazing and have a great day.
You are very welcome :)
The tutorial was very easy to follow! I spent 3 days trying to do a chain stitch but i did it successfully after watching this video once!
Glad it helped, good luck with your crochet journey :)
thank you so much!!! my daughter knows how to crochet thanks to you and she really enjoys it 😄
You are welcome 😊
For anyone who is struggling right now I know how you feel I was really having a hard time last week but I didn’t give up and now I’m doing super good so my message to you is don’t give up and you can do hard things just keep trying you got this 😊
Well done for not giving up :)
Oh my goodness this was the fourth "learn to crochet" video that I tried and I was just about ready to give up as it just wasn't working for me but FINALLY IT MAKES SENSE!!!! Seems I just needed to find the right way of holding the yarn that would work for me 😊 Excited to start turning my chain into a square now ❤
I'm glad that it was helpful and remember that crochet is practice and patience so keep trying and it will get easier :)
Awesome tutorial! I got it within a few minutes, the biggest help was not pulling too tight, I’ll be using your tutorials from now on
Thank you so much :)
You guys can do it!!!! I believe in you!!!!!!
I can crochet but crocheting is not as you think!
This is a first for me but it's never too late to learn (I'm a senior citizen). Okay! I need to get some wool and a hook! I'll be back soon!
Thank you for making these simple to understand, I've been trying to teach myself to crochet for more than 5yrs. I've now chained 56 and done 4rows of DC and 4 rows of TC. I'm so pleased with myself lol . 😀😀
You are very welcome and well done :)
The thing is I have some anger issues so I get irritated really easily and I brake things when I get mad so I can’t really do any “crafts” because I get irritated and I just destroy everything:(
The first thing is acknowledging your weaknesses...then figure out solutions to make it better
Same me to :( ones I threw my hook across the room and it scratched the wall. My mum wasn’t very happy :(
Same I'm literally crying right now
Thank you for this video. I Googled how to tie a slip knot and a selection of this video, dedicated to how to tie a slip knot, came up. I liked how you did it slowly, and explained what you were doing as you it. Thanks for taking the time to make this!💙
You are very welcome :)
You make this look so easy 😭
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😂😢
Ikr I’m trying 😢
This video helped me!
It's my first time holding a yarn and a crochet needle,but I did a chain stitch 🎉🎉
Now I can make my friend a crochet isopod, thankies! 😁
You are welcome :)
I started crochet using these Bella Coco videos, kept it up for 6 weeks or so and gave up. Revisited today and found I still remember slip knot, chain and double crochet! It has so inspired me, to see that I can remember. And this time I will keep it up! Don't give up. Thank you for these great videos x
You are very welcome :)
I just learned how to knit literally just now!
@Ellise Wedge Yes but they are different things-I was saying I learned how to knit-
I just want to say thank you without your channel I didn’t even think about crocheting but watching your videos and I’m one week I’m ready to crochet a scarf, I’ve ordered the wool you said to order and I’m on my way. I looked at many different channels yours was the best. Thank you so much I will be looking into your other videos on different patterns in the future ❤
You are very welcome, I'm glad it's helped you on your crochet journey :)
The best tutorial I've seen, so thoroughly explained and beginner friendly
Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful :)
NOT!@@bellacococrochet
I’m definitely not new but watching in case I can pick up a tip or two. Thanks for creating these videos!
You're very welcome glad you have found them useful :)
Thank you so much! This video was great, I was always so frustrated because I couldn’t figure out how to hold the yarn and hook comfortably and in control. This really helped!
You're very welcome :)
bella coco’s tutorial for absolute beginners!!!
As a 12 year old this helped a lot understanding how chains are made!!! My stitches look really bad but I made something lol. Thanks so much, this made me become a crocheter now...well maybe a little. I still need a lot of practice, and thank you again!!! Love your videos ❤️
Glad I could help :)
Wow! Super easy! Can’t believe how much faster it is than knitting! Thank you for this video! 💗
You're very welcome :)
I am knitter too and I found that too. :) yay
I tried to learn crochet like a year ago and got so frustrated cause everything seemed so confusing. Now I'm gonna try again and follow your tutorials, your explanations are very clear! Can't wait to make cute cardigans for me, my friends and family :)
Good luck and remember that crochet is practice and patience so the more you do the easier it will get :)
I've successfully tied the slip knot. 🎉 I'll try chain stitch now.. Let's see how it goes.
Using this as a refresher bc i finally got my own crochet kit 🥳🥳✨
my brain: *instructions unclear, Mission failed, aswell as my grades.*
Armyyyyy!!!
Hi! I'm from Crochet From Scratch. I'm about to start online LIVE classes if you want to join. It might be a bit easier to follow than a RUclips tutorial (not that they are not good!) some people just learn differently :) crochetfromscratch@gmail.com
Ha
My IQ Is BTS help!!!
i agree her intro was to fu*cking long talking about what thing you would need and what yarn.
Looks easy enough¿¿ guess I'll try to make something because time on my hands in the house is all I have left. Who knows maybe everyone at work will get a new blanket......
