Miss Kristin I just want to say thank you! I quit drinking last year and I started to crochet. It has been the most rewarding hobby. I've made five hats and a scarf so far. I learned the basics all from you. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Im 55 y/o and recently disabled, so I have a lot of time I need to fill. A friend taught me crochet a week ago, and after several hours of RUclips videos, this one helped me finally understand how to properly do the single crochet stitch. I too am recently disabled at age 53. It's been my lifelong interest to learn to crochet but between working full time and raising a family, I didn't have time. Finally, it's now beginning to be "me time!"
Despite how old this video is, I am extremely thankful for it. It covers so many of the problems of what I am doing wrong as a beginner crochet crafter. Thank you for being so basic and simple in your video. My mother in law tried showing me how to crochet, but never expressed something as simple as rotating the hook. I will be attempting this tomorrow but I am going to watch this video a few times before I do. I have learning difficulties, so I am extremely grateful 🙏 for this video. Wow your instruction and slow demonstration was perfect. Funny I’m learning this because my grand daughter wants to learn. Thank you and your grandma as well.
Thank you so much Kristin. You are very patient. I am 81 years old and quite an accomplished knitter and it has been a thrill for me to get the basics of crochet through my thick skull at last, after trying (only occasionally) to learn from a HOW TO CROCHET BOOK. I can't tell you how thrilled I am and very grateful to such a lovely young person with so much patience.
Thank you so much! Out of all people around me, who I wrangled into teaching me how to crochet, you’re the first to show the proper position of the hook, how you pull with it so that the thread doesn’t slip away. I feel like I actually can move from weaving simple “friendship bracelets” to making useful things! Much love!
I inherited my grandma's complete set of common size crochet hooks in a nice little zippered case. Every single beginners video I watched was not enough for me to completely grasp how to crochet. So, I put the books back into storage for future use! This is the only video I've ever seen that's been thorough enough for me to get started with a little bit of confidence! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! My grandma will be looking down from heaven all smiley I'm sure! ❤
Honestly I wasn’t a complete expert in crochet, but I knew how to chain before this video. So this was an incredibly big help for me! If your struggling then I’ll explain what you’ll have to do! 1.Learn how to chain in a different video.(if you have a friend who crochets then I would reccomend asking them for help) 2.figure out what hand position works best for you. ( it doesn’t have to be a popular hold.) Like I hold my yarn completely different then any of the videos I’ve watched) 3. Now you watch this video and learn a single stich! If you have a friend who crochets, then ask them for help! ( having a imperson teacher is much more helpful!) PLEASE KEEP TRYING TO CROCHET!!!! I’ll give you my updates Week 1:I learned how to chain and I like two different hand positions. Week 2: I’m struggling with how to chain neatly but I’m able to move my my hand in a comfortable position!! Week 3: IM working on single stitch. My friend is also helping me!❤❤❤ Week 4: I CAN SINGLE CROCHET! Week 5: COMING SOON
Everyone is commenting things like oh everyone does so fast ones and this was really slow so thank you and I’m just sat there not even being able to see over my tears
I'm certain an everso slow tutorial was recorded for those whom required the slower method and I take my hat off to such characters that take into into consideration of varied timed tutorials/ teachings
I am so glad I watched your video today, you explained so thoroughly about the first and last bumps and loops, I have seen so many videos in the past but always messed up the first and last bumps Thank you so much❤
Omg I am a recovering addict. I been clean 4 years. The trick to me staying clean is learning new stuff so I cross stitch, and I paint I can make cloths and quilt. Hand quilting takes forever but I love it. Now I need a challenge. I have been idle that is dangerous for me and my family. I have tried everything to learn this. I am telling you that from the moment I turned your tutorial on I learned that the back of the yarn tells me what needle to use! Your the 1st that showed this. I am so happy. Do you knit? I will do crocheting for a year or so master it then try knitting. I heard there is a ton of different stitches with crocheting. I want to thank you and so does my husband. He said that's the 1st time you didnt throw your yarn. Lmao. Thank you so much!
I'm brand spanking NEW!!! Never have I ever touched the supplies to do this. Thank you for helping me HOLD the yarn...Practice, Practice, Practice is next for me, lol Thank you!
This helped me so much. After my step mom trying to teach me for YEARS, I can finally do it. Planning on making her a scarf for Christmas this year now.
Isn't it the best when it finally starts to click? I took this up years ago to make a blanket for a friend's baby. And I just finished an afghan for my wife after noticing she always falls asleep with one her mom has when we visit.
Thank you so much for this video. I am in my 40s and have wanted to learn how to crochet for YEARS!! This is the first video that I’ve come across that I’ve been able to follow. It was rocky at first but it just go finally clicked after repeating this video. I am in the process of crocheting an ombré scarf. It is far from perfect but I am so proud of my janky looking scarf. I can’t wait to learn how to crochet more projects. My goal is to crochet a tiny pink stuffed elephant for my infant niece. Thanks again. You are awesome for making this video.
Omg this is the best demonstration ever AND IM NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING. I’ve been trying to figure out crocheting for MONTHS and the way you talk instead of putting music in + you go really slow is making this so much easier for me! I just wanted to say TYSM
This is an amazing tutorial!!! I felt joy watching it...you understand that ALL of the steps are confusing to the crochet disabled people...thank you! You make it so much easier to understand and I’m actually able to produce something for the first time ever!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I bought a kit with a book to teach me and just couldn't understand what they were talking about, but you made it so simple! Thank you for taking the time to make this video ❤
Thank you!!!! I learned how to crochet from my aunt as a kid but don’t remember and have been trying to learn the past week. This is the only tutorial that helped me with singles. Now I feel confident to keep learning. I’m not sure if you still make tutorials but I’m going to dive into the rest of your channel!
This video is the reason why i can crochet whatever I want now. I know its been years since this was posted, but this video was the first big development i had in my crochet skill. Thank you, Kristin!
Hands down best video to learn. Thank you so much for posting. I’ve been watching other videos all week and couldn’t make a single chain lol I just made so many watching this, so easily. there is a crucial step you verbally explain that other videos do not- when you are going to yarn over, you have to flip the hook down before you pull it through, which I was skipping completely, so it just kept twisting and not making the connection. So I finally did it. Onto the next step. Thank you!
I loved this video it helped me so much as other videos were hard but your video was so encouraging an after lots of tries I finally did it thank you Kristin so much
For those of you who are frustrated not being able to 'get it', keep trying. I've been crocheting for years, nothing fancy, edging round a knitted blanket my mum and I did between us, scarves, small blankets etc. Kristins tutorial is excellent, she has done a brilliant job in slowing it right down and showing the sample stitch and row by row. Please keep trying, it's such a lovely hobby x
stumbled on a video from Bella to get me started. The chain was super easy to get into, I was vibing.. and then she absolutely lost me with the turning. I'm so grateful you went into snail pace with us because I've now finished a (kind of sloppy and weird) little square and earlier I was about to simply give up the idea of learning. You are fantastic 😭😭😭
This is a great tutorial, a round of applause for the creator! I’ve watched so many and almost gave up but, this one explains everything down to the most minute detail. Remember, practice is all you need; it’s not magic. Don’t give up, it might seem impossible but persevere y’all.
Thank you so much for this video omgggg. I was about ready to yeet my yarn into the sun. Every single other "for total beginers!" video I watched earlier was like "okay, so starting off you just chain 3 then double crochet..." O__O excuse me.
This was a fantastic tutorial! It has taken a while for me to discover what I've been doing so wrong. Your pace and good explanations helped me so much! Thank you!
Like everyone else, thank you! I literally just started crochet today - bought my hooks & yarn & found your video. I am on my 3rd row (the part after you said your loop needs to be on the right). I actually found it easy to to follow! I appreciate it.
I was getting so frustrated with other tutorials going so fast and always talking about how easy everything is, but I really think when I pick the yarn back up tomorrow things might be different after having see this
For people who are really stuck, I recommend first trying a bit of finger crocheting (All it is when you create the first loop to start your project, instead of putting your hook in there, instead use your fingers to grab on to the next piece of yarn). It's much easier and it will help you get the hang of crocheting with a hook.
This is exactly what I needed to learn! Struggled the most with holding the working yarn in a way that didnt leave me with droopy or too tight yarn to work with, and I find I dont love the acrylic yarn I chose, but this super basic tutorial was great, Thanks Kristin!
That's what others assumed-even if they said for the very, very beginner. I knew you MEANT IT, I mean the VERY beginner/virgin, when you used the terms VERY SLOWLY FOR THE BEGINNER. You started out talking fast (about 6 words and then 'there was the 'music' of SLOW!!!
Loved this! My grandma thought me many years ago. She passed away around 2 months before my wedding this year. She had started a gift for my husband and I. I was needing a refresher to be able to finish it, this was just what I needed!
THANK YOU for this video! I watched two others before it and kept messing up & having to start over. After 2 hours I was about to give up and decided to give it one more try! You made it way more simple and slow enough I could actually follow along ❤️ I’ve been crocheting for a few hours now and actually making progress on it 👏🏼 Thank you!
Hi Kristine, I really want to learn how to crochet, besides the sc do you make a slow vidio on a dc? If so where can i find it, thank you so much for your patience, appreciated. Bye.
Wow! This amazing! I tried crocheting back in 2014 and I thought it wasn’t for me. I was so frustrated. Now 5 years later, I’m glad I found your helpful video to guide me through the beginning of a new hobby. Thanks!
I’m new to crochet and I’ve watched lots of videos that teach but so far, yours is the only tutorial I’ve seen where I managed to get the chain going. Right now, I’ve already forgotten how I got the first loop onto the hook but I’m feeling more positive. I want to able to make tiny clothes for my needle felted mice. Right now that feels like a lifetime away. I want to say thank you because I was crying from sheer frustration. I love that your video is very slow and but by bit. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙏💕💕
You’re instructions are superb. I learned how to crochet 🧶 when I was 8 from my great grandma. Granny squares and potholders. When I’ve tried to make a blanket or scarf 🧣 but the edges of the rows it gets longer or shorter. I wanted to see what I was doing wrong and you clearly explained it. Thank You so much. I’m off to practice. 🙏
I'm 14 currently having back problems so I can't do anything and I've been wanting to lear this for so long but I couldn't find anything that works and thus has helped me a lot.
I have been trying to learn how to crochet for years but having watched this tutorial today and the way you describe and show how to start I am really looking forward to follow your programme.. I am due to retire and have been knitting for many years and do many other crafting projects along with sketching and painting. I have always wanted to crochet, now I can follow you and start learning, very clear instructions from you make it less daunting.
This is more than great for super SUPER beginners like me. It took me a week to comprehend what i was seeing at first lol. No even kidding x.x But aftet that week your video alone clicked in my mind finally and i am well on my way to making a scarf for my toddler! Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu for teaching us
Thank you for the simple explanation!!!!!! I learned some from from my grandma when I was a child but forgot until my daughter expressed interest. She and I are learning together now. Again thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCHHH, it was hard at the beginning :) but i didnt give up and kept trying and trying AND TRYING i got there!! it took me three days to get through the second bit but then i got the hang of it :>>> THANK YOU AGAIN you made it a easy demonstration to show how to do it, your a prooo
I just bought a crochet set. The instructions went from “crochet one row” to “crochet row 50” with no imbetween :( I did it! I crocheted a square! Thank you for this, it really helped!
I’m so grateful to you for doing this video! I had to rewatch it several times to finally get it, but you explained it so well. I had given up learning how to crochet... but thanks to you... I’m at it again. 💕
i havent even watched this but you are a SAINT for even having the idea. this is on my CRUCIAL AND MY FASHION pliaylists. may you walk under your blessings miss
THANK YOU! All other "step by step" tutorials I've found I've gotten soooo confused over where exactly to push the needle into but your entire explanation with "bumps" an "v's" made it so easy to understand! I think I've watched at least ten tutorials at this point and I never really got it but finally I feel like I have some clue of what is actually going on! Kudos to you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I love the way you explain things so clearly, each time I had a question it’s like you could read my mind and answered it a moment later. I appreciate the slowness, I watched a few tutorials before this and was very frustrated but now I’ve got a scarf started and even though it’s messy I’m having fun!!
Out of all the videos on youtube, this was the most helpful! Thank you for explaining and going through this slowly. I'm going to finish up this little coaster :)
It takes time and plenty of patience. I started crocheting in 2019, it is a challenge. I'm still learning, so hang in there no matter what. You can learn this!
The most valuable thing you just taught me is that it's normal for my first couple of rows to twist. I've been tearing it all out to start over thinking it's wrong. Thank you! And thank you for going so slow! 💓
I started learning this when I was in 3rd grade, for some weird reason my teacher started teaching us how to crochet 😂 I absolutely loved it though but I haven’t done it since then , which was about 8 years ago but quarantine boredom has driven me back to it lol 😆, I remember everything she’s talking about here 🤗
Definitely this video! I've watched several and I must have managed to find the pro version of "amateur" because they made it look easy but I was completely unable to accomplish it. Everything from the way you hold your yarn to the way you explain how to hook makes this SO much easier. I had a EUREKA moment when I tried your way. Thank you!
SLOW and Visible! Thank you! A friend was trying to teach me to crochet recently, and I realize now that I was having trouble following her instructions, because I was seated next to her and couldn't see what she was doing. I would have had to sit on her lap to gain the perspective your video provides, and I can watch over and over in order to get it right, without bothering anyone! Thanks again. I'll do some practicing on the single Crochet, then hit up some of your other videos once I've got the hang of the most basic stitch.
I've been crocheting for a long time, and do things so automatically that I forget the details if I'm showing someone. This is the best "starting from the beginning" video I've ever seen! Thank you!
I've been trying to learn to crochet for about 1 month now I bought a crochet kit but I couldn't even make 1 chain then my neighbor gave me a 9mm hook and some yarn I learned with her help I learned how to make a chain in 1 minute then I made lots of long and short chains my best friend knows how to crochet and learned the single crochet stitch yesterday I just learned it just now my Nana knew how to crochet and crocheted and knit for 50+ years I think crocheting is in my blood because I'm now catching on quickly ty to whoever reads this I'll update soon on my progress for whoever cares!
This is very stressful and hard update: it's been 15 mins and I still can't do it! ugh!! update: I DID THE FIRST LOOP update: I messed up and I have to redo it... ugh update: I DID THE SECOND LOOP... but I pulled it too tight I am just going to keep practicing but my gosh this is HARD!!!

Honestly I wasn’t a complete expert in crochet, but I knew how to chain before this video. So this was an incredibly big help for me! If your struggling then I’ll explain what you’ll have to do!
1.Learn how to chain in a different video.(if you have a friend who crochets then I would reccomend asking them for help)
2.figure out what hand position works best for you. ( it doesn’t have to be a popular hold.) Like I hold my yarn completely different then any of the videos I’ve watched)
3. Now you watch this video and learn a single stich! If you have a friend who crochets, then ask them for help! ( having a imperson teacher is much more helpful!)
PLEASE KEEP TRYING TO CROCHET!!!!
I’ll give you my updates
Week 1:I learned how to chain and I like two different hand positions.
Week 2: I’m struggling with how to chain neatly but I’m able to move my my hand in a comfortable position!!
Week 3: IM working on single stitch. My friend is also helping me!❤❤❤
Week 4: I CAN SINGLE CROCHET!
Week 5: COMING SOON

Tanaya Harris so glad you’re doing better :)
Tanaya Harris congrats! I must say knitting I learned first and it’s very easy. Crocheting I’m not amazing at, bcs it’s more difficult
hey thats really cool that this stuff has helped u! i love to hear stuff like that:)
Harrison Levin That’s so funny, because I knit and think crochet is great, because it’s easier! 😊
Glad you're recovering. All the best.

I'm an absolute beginner. I bought crotchet threads, hooks on amazon and I'm trying to learn. This video is great
Omg this is the best demonstration ever AND IM NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING.

This is the 3rd video I've watched, all different people, and not one person has mentioned rotating and tension. Now I have a whole chain finally. Ty!
I just started crocheting and loved it because of your video because other videos are quite hard.
You’ve taught me how to actually hold my yarn without it slipping everywhere. Thank you.
Yes! This was how I was taught years ago and I've not seen anybody else online use this method. It's perfect.
Same!! Thank you for showing EVERY detail.
I love how supportive the crochet community is! I’m a complete noob to this, and I love how much everyone wants me to continue and not give up
This video has been out for 5 years by the time I wanted to learn and let me tell you it was wonderful. You did an amazing job teaching me the basic steps.

Did I do this on the first try? Yes
I can see myself starting a project in a... week maybe? I'm so proud of myself.

Thank you!
💐🪴🌹
You’re still going fast on 🙌🏼👩🏽🦱this video please please slow down slowDown🥵🥵

The more you do, the neater it will be. Practice makes perfect is so true for this craft!

I hate when they just start right off throwing the crochet jargon at ya like your some kind of freakin expert🤣
Thank you for taking time to comment!
I was getting so frustrated with other tutorials going so fast and always talking about how easy everything is, but I really think when I pick the yarn back up tomorrow things might be different after having see this
omg sameee
For people who are really stuck, I recommend first trying a bit of finger crocheting (All it is when you create the first loop to start your project, instead of putting your hook in there, instead use your fingers to grab on to the next piece of yarn). It's much easier and it will help you get the hang of crocheting with a hook.
Omg guys I got it! Took me a sec but this made me so happy lol
This is exactly what I needed to learn! Struggled the most with holding the working yarn in a way that didnt leave me with droopy or too tight yarn to work with, and I find I dont love the acrylic yarn I chose, but this super basic tutorial was great, Thanks Kristin!

Hi Kristine,
I really want to learn how to crochet, besides the sc do you make a slow vidio on a dc? If so where can i find it, thank you so much for your patience, appreciated. Bye.
I watched 10 videos before i actually learned how to do this sis 😂
All the comments be like THIS IS TOO HARD I GIVE UP. edit: I have learned and have now made an entire crotchet wardrobe. Thanks y’all!
This is great! Trying to learn something before bed instead of endlessly reading the news. Thank you.

This really helped, I had no idea how to start a new row, even after several videos, I finally realised how to do it after watching this
Thank you!
