Hi, I learned to knit as a young child, being taught by my mum and nan. Neither of them use this method, and we are from the UK. I was taught to keep the working yarn in my right hand, flicking the right pointer finger up to go around the needle anti-clockwise. I also learned to use the really long needles, and you tucked either 1 or both under your arms. This is more of a Scottish way to do it, I think. I also learned to crochet, which is my love. The hook can come out, and you don't have 300 stitches to pick up when you have pulled the wrong needle out of your bag! Crochet also grows much faster, but I do at times put a knitted cuff onto a jumper. I will have a go with your style of knitting as I have a vast array of knitting needles from my mother in law. Love you channel, best wishes xx
THANK YOU! I've been trying to learn to knit since before christmas so I can make a sweater for my mom but have been too scared but this was an amazing tutorial. Thank you for being clear and concise and showing both the long tail cast on and how to start knitting a swatch. ❤
This is exactly how my grandmother used to teach me to knit, after starting my own knitted/crocheted clothing business I realized my grandmother always started the yarn for me. After she’s recently developed severe dementia I can’t call her up anymore and ask her to help me learn that one piece I was missing. This made me feel like the 6 year old with children’s knitting needles listening to my Grandmother explain while I sat in her lap!! I had to do the same thing with Crocheting, but I am so happy that you brought me back to one of the most important moments of my childhood memories with my Grandmother!!
I am a crocheter, but there's so many patterns for knitting that I wanted to make. It is a game changer to hold the yarn in left hand, so much more comfy than in the right hand, like many other tutrials showed. Thank you very much!
I’m a crocheter and Learning how to knit has always been so complicated for me but I finally got the hang of this from this tutorial and I’m so proud of myself!!😭😭
I've been crocheting for 3 years but an ex-coworker of mine gave me a knitting set so I figured it was the best time to learn. I was nearly in tears watching other tutorials because I just could not figure it out and they either didn't go slow enough or show what they were doing from all angles (couldn't figure out the positioning of things because of it). Watching your video helped it make sense to me. I made my first square!! It's still a little wonky because I haven't figured out the tension yet but it's so much better than my other attempts. Gonna keep practicing my little squares (just like I did with crochet) until my tension is better and I'm more confident because I'd love to make a cardigan and blankets some day
as a crocheter, I really wanted to get into knitting this year. I went through all your videos on learning how to knit and you made it so easy and approachable, especially from a crochet prospective. I feel confident to start my first project thanks to you! much love to you and all crafters that take their time to share their knowledge!
Hi! I don’t know if you’ll see this but I just wanted to say that this is the 5th tutorial I’ve watched in the past two hours and before I found this video I was literally crying out of frustration because I could not figure it out. This was the video it finally clicked. It took me two hours to figure out how to even cast on but the little pinchy motion you did made everything crystal clear. Thank you so much I appreciate you!
Yesssssssss I’ve had it on my mind to learn knitting some day but I never knew when. I find it intimidating. Too many needles. But your tutorial is super clear and im feeling encouraged ^_^ thank you!
This is the only knitting tutorial that actually has made sense and because of it, I am literally knitting now. The biggest help was you explaining that if I can't move my cast on stitches along the needle, that I've had too tight of tension and that was the unlock for my brain. lol And The way you explain casting on and holding the tension has been the best and most comfortable for me. I don't know if it's because I'm a crocheter too or if you just explained it in a brain friendly way, but I appreciate it. I would love if you would make a tutorial for is when you drop a stitch. lol But that is not a criticism about this video, this vid is perfect.
this is the best beginner knitting tutorial i have found! all the other ones have me scratching my head, but you make it so easy for me. love the cast on technique too!
Learned how to crochet two years ago and never thought I would ever wanna knit because it look so hard and u made it look so easy I can’t wait to try thank u so much for this 🙂💜
it was a 2024 resolution to learn how to knit, and after many attempts, i'm so glad i found this video right before ending the year! knitting a little scarf for my cat atm
I've always wanted to learn how to knit since I've learnt how to crochet so I bought the things I needed but each time I start watching a tutorial I get bored and yh since last year I just left my knitting pin and I decided to watch this and I was obviously not disappointed cuz I now know the basic steps in knitting. Thank you Kelsie
Thank you Kelsie for teaching me how to crochet and knit! I can't thank you enough for your videos and how easy they are to learn from. I've been crocheting for a year now and I finally got brave enough to learn to knit also. Thank you so much ❤
I'm starting to learn knitting now... Been crocheting for a year and because it was chinese new year and we dont have work I think it will help me busy. It doesn't look like yours but I hope it will.. sooonnn... Thank you so much.. ❤️
It’s not that I’ve been putting off learning how to knit… I’ve just been putting others things first. But now that I’m here watching you teach me how to knit, I’m ready to learn. 😊
YASSSSS!!! Tysm Kelsie! I’ve been so exited for this tutorial - ever since I started crochet I’ve wanted to try knitting but the tutorials I watched were really bad. I saw this just now and instantly liked before I even watched the video 😂 Anyway, off to grab the knitting needles I bought months ago and make me a sweater ❤
Thank you for not add the music while teaching the method of knitting, I don’t know why some people add music though tutorials 🙄these things need to focus on and playing music will make it unclear
I am so glad you posted a tutorial! I have been so curious how you knit because you’re also a crocheter. I was taught how to knit very differently and it is SO inefficient especially when doing any kind of ribbing. I see knitting as necessary evil to get the type of fabric that I want for certain projects but I would rather crochet if I can. Two rows in and I’m already matching my old speed. This is going to be a game changer! Maybe I’ll actually start to like knitting more.
Thank you for not over complicating this with all the different hard ways to hold the yarn. I’m a crocheter but I have half an index finger so have to figure out a different way to do the stitches holding the yarn. But I’m getting it! 😁
This is THE BEST tutorial! My hands kept getting twisted & tightened weird. As a crocheter your explanation was so simple instead of going round, though, behind…blah blah blah. This was soo much better & helped me enjoy the process! Thank you thank you!
I’ve watched a few videos on knitting for beginners and you are the first one who actually explained it in a way for a complete beginner to understand. I finally got the hang of it from just watching your video once. Thank you!!
THANK YOU! I was so confused why my knit stitches didn't look like supposed "V" shape folks talk about. I was doing knit stitches front AND back which resulted in the garter stitch. More RUclipsrs need to explain that distinction. I watched countless videos of people doing the knit stitch and wondering what I was doing wrong.
Thank you thank you thank you!!! For this tutorial I’ve wanted to learn to knit for nearly as long as I’ve been crocheting I could never grasp the casting on let alone the actual stitches you’ve made this so clear and easily understandable that I’m able to pick it right up and feel confident in what I’m trying to do. Did I say thank you?? I just can’t thank you enough ❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome tutorial. I'm an avid crocheter I had the basic for knitting many years ago but I needed a refresher and I'm soo impress with this instruction so simple and easy to follow ❤
Amazing! I tried to learn to knit over 30 years ago and just couldn't do it... I've just managed to knit the beginnings of a decent little swatch (it was going well until the wool snapped - it was a cheap yarn). I'm so happy 😆 ❤
I was looking for a video of how to knit and nothing worked out for me until I found this video now I know how to knit so easily. Thank you for the tutorial.☺️☺️☺️
Thank you for explaining at the beginning how to figure out what you need. I am new to all things yarn. You are the third person I watched for beginners. The first two just went straight to the needle, yarn and showing how start stitching. 👶🏻🧶
Thank you so much for putting out this tutorial! By far the easiest for me to follow along! After watching and knitting along I'm making my first project already! It's only a wash cloth but hey, it's a start!
Wow! Good job, girl! I’ve watched tons of videos to try knitting. Yours makes me feel confident I can do it! I look forward to future knit videos! Thank you!!❤🎉
Hi! First, thank you for this wonderful video; I've been trying to learn how to knit for years but kept giving up because it seems entirely way to difficult. I really appreciate how you took your time and explained each step and showed how to do everything more than once. A quick question: on the very last stitch on my needle, the loop is super big. How do I get it a little smaller? It happens on every row 😬
THANK YOU!! I’ve been trying to learn knitting for a long time and it was so hard but this method is so easy but i really need to do it more so i don’t struggle
Loved you explaining the crochet background. I’m the same way so when people were saying continental I was so confused! Thanks for sharing your knowledge ❤
I've been a crochet girlie for about a year now and after watching your tut I want to knit so bad lol, going to go get some knitting needles today! Edit:got some needles! trying it now, its definitely harder then crocheting!
I'm a super huge fan of yours and I watch every vlog, but I immediately skipped when I saw this. It's my worst nightmare. My crocheting brain can't handle this😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just wanted to see if knitting was something I might like to do. And since I don't have knitting materials, I used two pencils and a long shoelace. LOL I did it! I just didn't have enough shoelace to create a square though. But it helped me get the feel of knitting somehow
Great videos!! Ur videos are well instructed and clearly explained. It showed us clearly on how to do all the stiches. Thank u so much!! 😊😆😍 I have been wanting to go back knitting & crocheting. I watched both of ur knitting tutorials and I learnt it within 4 hours. U are so patient and ur voice sounds soothing too! I’m going to watch all ur crochet beginner videos too. 😆

Ive tried knitting before, it never stuck in my brain. I’m so excited you did this, you’re an amazing teacher ❤ I know I’ll get it this time! 😊

Update now?
I'm a crocheter who's been trying to learn how to knit and your video is the first one that's made sense to me! Thank you so much!!
I watched 4 and hers was the first that made sense!
This is exactly how my grandmother used to teach me to knit, after starting my own knitted/crocheted clothing business I realized my grandmother always started the yarn for me. Every time you ask “ok?” In your videos, I always respond “yes” or “ok” like if you can hear me 😂😂
Same😂😅
I am a crocheter, but there's so many patterns for knitting that I wanted to make. It is a game changer to hold the yarn in left hand, so much more comfy than in the right hand, like many other tutrials showed. Thank you very much!

As a broke girly...using pencils as knitting needles is something I'm proud with (still struggling)
