      It is a little harder to stay positive in a time where there is so little to celebrate Castle about, at least coming from Lego itself. But the community, the Mocs and everything there is absolutely amazing and growing steadily.
      So in a way it balances out, depending on what part of it you focus on.

    I'd love to see more 3 in 1 creator sets for Castle, and for Lego to expand that to space. Cheaper $30 to $80 sets that could combine with duplicates would allow most people to be able to have a modern castle tailored to their budget.

    • @BrickingUpBrad

      @@BrickingUpBrad My take on 3 in 1 is that they will most likely make a black / dark gray fortress or tower as soon as the current one goes out of print. Maybe Black Knights, maybe Wolfpack, maybe a new faction, but given we have a huge black tower in Barad'Dur that would be the move to make. Or just make a white one to contrast?

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 6 месяцев назад +3

      For sure I would love another 3 in 1 castle if that is the route they decide to take. I just got hold of 2 sets of of the current 3 in 1 castle and I can say I was pleasantly surprised by how good the main build actually is and how many useful parts are actually in it. If there is any small flaws to point out it is the yellow parts don't look as great as maybe another color in those areas and the set is a little light on accessories for the minifigures to use.
      However, with multiples of the set, you can make many great variants that are even better looking. You can also easily add some PAB Black Falcon minifigures and accessories to the set, which aren't too expensive. Even the brick-built dragon, which is a bit small and spindly, can be upgraded by combining the parts from 2 sets to make a larger, more interesting version.
      Let's hope for another great set like this one, with another faction featured in the new version that we didn't have before.

      Even Majisto's Magical Workshop isn't as bad. People were highly critical of the build as they could have still made it a lot better, but if you look at the aftermarket price for a sealed copy, it is still an affordable set at around 30 dollars. (and a much better value in price per parts than the Forest hideout GWP for example)
      At this point we are so starved for sets, that even a medieval themed GWP is looking appealing. I don't think they should do these anymore and just release them as normal sets, but that's just me.

    Biggest Con in my eyes definetly is the lack of an actual castle theme with small affordable sets. And this is pretty weird thing for Lego to do, since they have to miss out on so many potential customers. I mean if your new to Lego Castle and you want to get into it, you dont have any small entry into it. You either have to fully commit and pay several hundred dollars or ,more likely, turn away.
    I mean Lego knows what a enormous amount of people there are that are into the castle and fantasy stuff, so them making EVERY single Set that goes even remotely in that direction (Castle,DnD,Lotr) atleast 100 dollars, and more often than not way more , is pretty scummy in my opinion.
    The new Space theme is so cool, its awesome for both kids and adults since its has good play potential and looks amazing on display, and even is suprisingly good priced., which REALLY makes me want Lego to do a Castle revival following the same formular.
    10$ entry set, 3 in the 20-30$ range, one 60$ish set and a big 100$ one, throw in a battle pack for each of the factions and the castle community would eat that stuff up like no tomorrow

    • @pajvader
      @pajvader 7 месяцев назад

      Yes that would be great, but once that gate is open .......,
      For lego it is double sided. They can easily make with the current peaches an entire line of castle. That would sell great. Butt... They are inflated heavily if they go to fast. People would buy tons of it. That said it would eat from the same of the pick a brick revenue. It could backfire. Because of the now limited availability, people would buy more now, not to miss out. Wich increases the demand. People buy just every available set. When a full line is introduced. People would be more picky in their choices. And the other reason why castle is a direct to customer product. Is because retail are more likely to sell city, friends and licensed sets

    • @marvinbange1216
      @marvinbange1216 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@pajvader Yeah but you also have the assumably large amount of people who are interested in castle but wont buy sets that are multiple hundred dollars. Which includes me
      I mean is Star Wars off worse because they have normal sets aong side their big multiple hundred dollar UCS sets? Id argue that the revenue they make from the normal sets is far higher than that from the ucs ones because more than 1% of people actually buy that stuff

    I've always been amazed at how much people I meet in the Lego community that love and adore the medieval themed Lego. If you compare it to how few actual sets are offered in stores, this massive mismatch just doesn't add up. I regulary ask the people running Lego stores (official and non-official ones) what sets they sell most when new sets come in and the answer is nearly always the same: Star wars, modular buildings and anything that is remotely castle related.
    The Castle CMF's are the only one that people ask the staff for if they have any in the back and the Castle minifigure parts from the build-your-own-minifig stand are always hard to find, non-existant and/or incomplete.
    Sure, there are occasional bangers like the recent Tuxedo Cat that is constantly sold out everywhere, but overall the stuff that the planks are full with: Marvel, DC, Ninjago, City and even Friends, just doesn't sell as well as the stuff that Moc builders and content creators are most often fond of. I would even say Starwars is on a decline, as there hasn't been any relevant Star wars source material to draw from that is massively popular, basically since 2005.
    You could say Lego castle is going through some extremely rough times, with only sets available that costs inordinate amounts of money. The cheapest set, which is 100 dollar (the 3 in 1 castle) is often still needed and bought in multiples and used as an expensive parts package more than anything. The demand is extremely high, but Lego is not taking advantage of this at all. We have yet to see a set under a 100 dollar in years. Even the GWP sets that are castle based are far more expensive than they should be and they are pretty weak sets by comparison.
    However, you could also just as likely say we are living in a golden age of castle. As the sets that we have, are actually really strong, detailed and loved. There is a reasonable amount of good minifigures and parts available in PAB to build with and the community for Castle is as large as it has ever been and still growing strongly on platforms like RUclips, Rebrickable and Lego ideas. The only thing Lego needs to do is design fun, affordable sets. Just one wave of 3-6 sets, would be a great start and I'm quite confident they are going to eventually do it, given the massive popularity of the theme.
    Also there are hints they're going to make a Raven knight or Kraken faction based set in the coming year or so, given the poll Lego put out recently. They might even do both eventually, let's keep our fingers crossed.

    Good points on the GWP system. Those sets could have been perfect small sets in stores that could work for kids. These small sets can be made perfectly ‘kid friendly’ if they worry kids will play ‘wargames’ with castles. You can easily make a medieval farm, windmill, forest camp, harbor,… that are all fun for kids and will also appeal to adult castle fans. And then put the bigger castle sets online for ‘adults only’.
    It’s BS to say kids are not interested in castle theme when you put every set behind a +300$ wall. No parent will buy a +300$ set out of the blue. If however you’re kids really enjoy that 30$ castle set, you may be interested in getting more from the same theme.
    I bought my Lego castles mainly for myself, but my kids have spent hours playing with it and making up stories.

    I’ve thought about how a modern Lego Castle intended for mass retail could work. And I think I have a decent idea.
    Over one year, you have a total of 14-16 sets. These are divided up into to 2 large sets, 4 medium sets, and 6-8 small sets. Each grouping is divided in half between two factions. The two largest sets represent the main base of each faction, the medium sets represent a mid-size structure, and each small set is a smaller structure or siege engine. The main draw, however, is that each set includes alternate instructions on how to modify it into a module that attaches to the main castle/“base”; which, ideally, would be simple enough to use as a basic blueprint for making MOC modules. Factions could be paired as such - Lion Crusaders vs Black Falcons, Forest Men vs Wolf Pack, Dragon Masters vs Fright Knights. Then sprinkle just enough lore to state what each faction is about and identify the leader and one or two champions of each faction, and let creativity take it from there. And, ideally, this could be an evergreen theme to rerelease/add to every five or so years.
    If you’re wondering about the civilian life side of things…honestly, if this line came to fruition, I’d keep civvy life as an AFOL-oriented collector’s item. Your average kid doesn’t really care about that.
    This same process could be repeated/modified for Pirate and Space as well.

    Solid video. We have so much good stuff available! 9 factions plus the availability of tons of other figures from CMF is HUGE!!! I am stoked for the D&D figs later this year. The GWPs can be had on BL for approximately what they would have been retail. Yes, it is a little more work than just picking it up at the store, but as a lifelong LEGO castle fan who went through the castle drought of the 2010's as I was coming out of my dark age I am loving the last several years.
    Plus, it isn't just direct from LEGO, there are tons of customs and rebrickable builds available in the castle genre. It can always be better, but it is pretty dang good right now. I think the lack of castle sets has in a lot of ways encouraged more creativity from castle builders.
    Like SW fans I feel like Castle fans are becoming too focused on what they don't have.
    I have to argue about there only being expensive castle sets, 31120 Medieval Castle continues to be available and has been $100 for 3 years, also it has been on very good sale several times (I have seen as low as $50). Sure I wish there were battle packs and other very small sets, but you can essentially make your own via PAB.
    The fact that the creator castle is on shelves 3 years after release and the number of MOCs on rebrickable involving 2, 3, or even 4 copies of this set, it is clear that castle fans want BIG stuff. Also, the fact that the BL Designer Program sets have sold out virtually instantaneously at stupid prices tells LEGO to keep making more BIG castle stuff.
    I totally disagree that fans having overblown expectations is at all the fault of LEGO, people need to chill. The expectations that are thrown out are not economically feasible at the price points people demand.

    I like the theoretical idea behind the CMF. However, I don't like how it works in practice. Yesterday, I was in two different shops. In both, I saw opened boxes of CMF... those are pure money lost for LEGO or the shops! Instead, LEGO should let us buy the ones we really want, even if they double the price. I would buy more minifigure. I will certainly buy quiet a lot of the upcoming dnd series... I don't have friends who collect LEGO, nor do I want to start to deal with selling the CMFs I don't want. So, they just take up space inside some plastic containers. When I hear LEGO talking about being an environmentally friendly company, I'm upset. Plus, let's be honest, I bought some 31120 castle last year just to reach the price for the Majisto's workshop... So, okay, I can't blame LEGO for my behavior, but I can blame them for having a business plan that plays on FOMO.

    I dont think they will make cheaper castles, because you can make your own castles very easily with pab... I hope they make something like a watchtower or some smaller sets... That we could buy 1 house for 50 instead of over the 150... Overall im happy with the castle sets. The blacksmith was my comeback. In mean time i make a moc for my falcons... With a little village... I straight up hate the FOMO aspect of the GWP sets. I've basically been priced out of this hobby in recent years and sets like the hideout or Majisto's workshop being regular run, widely available sets would allow me to keep with it when I can't drop $400+ on a massive castle collector's set. There's been some really cool stuff in recent years but it's all gated behind Lego's most abusive, manipulative marketing towards AFOLs; massively expensive sets, encouraging people to bulk-buy CMFs hoping to get what they want, scummy gifts-with-purchase. And never, ever running any kind of normal castle theme at normal (already super inflated, these days) prices. It should be the best time in years to be a castle fan and it feels like the worst. Idc what sets Lego are making if I have no hope of getting any of them.
    It's hard to feel particularly sunny about it when Lego sees castle as a way to squeeze their older, wealthier fans for as much money as possible rather than treating it as a toy line or something they would take seriously as part of their main product lines in general. I know part of it is probably because Castle 2013 was a failure, but it was also an incredibly half-baked run of sets. And it's at this point been over a decade. Maybe give Castle another chance as a main line theme, they clearly know there's demand for castle, pirates and to an extent space. They just seem determined not to incorporate them as recurring themes (maybe even rotating; a year of space, a year of pirates, a year of castle) because I guess they can't do as many tie-ins and gimmicks as they do with so many original themes now.

    Might be a controversial take but I disagree that modern castle is too expensive. The problem is simply the lack of smaller sets available to coincide with massive releases, as I doubt anyone would (rightly) complain if the Lion Knights Castle or the Town Square existed alongside smaller towers/siege vehicles/battle packs, etc.
    Despite this, you can still make a sizable army of Black Falcons and Crusaders on PAB for about $30 or less, weapons and accessories included, which is equal to the minifig packs they released for Fantasy Era. Friendly reminder that Wolfpack torsos will also be added in the future.
    Everyone always overlooks the Creator 3-in-1 Castle, which is a very good compromise for the LKC. Another solid well-priced Castle set is the Viking Village which gives you great value for your buck.

    • @BrickingUpBrad
      @BrickingUpBrad  7 месяцев назад

      I think you missed my point. No is complaining about the sets we have. All the sets we got are amazing and well worth dropping money on. But they are also all over 100 dollars. My point is the average kid and parent doesn’t know about bricklink. So if they are interested in castle and walk into a store all options are over 100 dollars. And many stores don’t even carry the 3 in 1 castle. So if they want something they can’t get anything. Again we like what’s there and it’s awesome to have PAB. But people who don’t have a lot of money can’t enjoy castle. Even the Gwps are a ton of money to get unless you get them second. Even then most people don’t know where to get them second hand.
      Think of it as if you had a kid with 50 dollars and liked castle. Imagine that way and you will see where I’m coming from.

    After the appearance of Majisto in the new castle and GWP Majisto's Workshop, many fans are taking this as a hint the next faction to be remade will be the Dragon Masters. (Also the remade Dragon Masters logo seen in a modern overview of the Castle factions)
    While it might be true, this is a terrible idea.
    Dragon Masters where cool in the past for the novelty they bring to the table; the big halberd, roman-inspired dragon helmets, dragon "plumes" scavenged from the Black Knights, horse helmet, Majiso the first wizard with brand new beard, hat and magic wand, and of course the classic green dragon.
    Well
    Most classic parts molds are lost to time.
    The GWP Majisto's workshop is very clear they're not bringing back the dragon helmet and plume, and the provided helmet is not even the right color or at least pearl_dark_grey/gunmetal to mimic the dark look of the original faction.
    The halberd will likely not return either.
    Classic dragon? Not a chance.
    And the horse helmet, another discontinued part, dont even work on the updated horse currently available.
    So, what's left?
    If they decide to bring back the Dragon Masters, it might be the first "weak" aspect of the current revival of Lego Castle.
