In the 90s I had one of the smallest sets shown here, “Skeleton’s surprise”, we didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid, so my parents were never going to be able to afford one of the big castles……. BUT I can’t explain THE AMOUNTS OF STORIES AND ADVENTURES I IMAGINED with that simple set, I remember sometimes I was in school and I was just excited all morning waiting to get home to play with that Lego set… thanks for this, you made me feel something deep inside that I didn’t remember.

I've got the Night Lord's Castle as a kid on Christmas. Back then here in Eastern Europe it had cost a huge amount of money and our family struggled financially, so it was hopeless to get such sets. I still don't understand how my parents managed to save up to buy it. Got hooked on LEGO since, and I have wonderful childhood memories for it, where I've built sets I did not have with what Lego I had. Now so many years have passed, and I never gave my Lego to anyone thinking that I'm leaving it for my child.
I have my own 2 children now. And last year, I with my 6-year-old son built the Castle again. It was so heart-warming and full of nostalgia.
Lego helped me develop as a person into ho I am now. Even if I have nothing to do with it (international sales), it helped me to understand there is always a way to achieve a goal - in my work, in life in my relationship. You don't have to always follow by the rule book if you don't have all the pieces. Creative outside the box thinking will always help in life.

I remember very well as a kid how Lego changed completely from beginning of the 90s to the end of the 90s. The sets became oversaturrated with new and "one-time-use" parts like e.g. bat-wings (what i mean by one-time-use is that it's a finished piece with very limited creative use). One set had all of a sudden 20 different colors and shapes. Every square centimeter had something "unique" going in it. I really lost the thrill in building those ...

    • @evertvriezinga3193
      @evertvriezinga3193 Год назад +11

Completely agree. Maybe because they had a new economic/technical ability to create original pieces they went "crazy". But it feels more like a doll house with unique pieces then Lego.

In my childhood I remember countless times when I just look these big sets in my local supermarkets and dreaming if I ever had them in my hands. My mother was kind enough and bought me some smaller figure sets. Never big sets, only smallest ones and yes, these catalogues I read many many times.. And now 30 years later I finally bought my first Lego castle ever - that new huge one 😂.

I donated all of my Legos from somewhere between 1984 to 1992 sitting in 5 big chests to my nephews. Unfortunately, they have no interest in Lego but only in small, tiny computers and mobile phones when they are blinking and making noise. It is scary seeing them pulling out one of their toys just to leave it alone 5 minutes later so they can grab the next one. My sister and I were completely different. My mother till this day reports that I woke up at 5 a.m. and they had to force me to bed by 7 p.m. and during that time they saw me just grabbing some water and the meals and then disappear into my room to unfold my Lego world.

The 1984 6080: King's Castle was the best. It was a real enclosed castle with a drawbridge and a portcullis! It also had a prison cell!!!
As a bonus you could open the walls of the castle to the sides to get a long wall and a better look to the inside.

I was a Lego Castle enthusiast as a kid in the 1980s and 90s. The sets I personally owned...
    Jousting Knights (1984)
    Knight's Challenge (1988)
    Twin-Arm Launcher (1988)
    Forestmen's Hideout (1988)
    Black Monarch's Ghost (1990)
    Knight's Stronghold (1990)
    Forestmen's Crossing (1990)
    King's Mountain Fortress (1990)
    Black Knight (1992)
    Wolfpack Renegades (1992)
    Sea Serpent (1992)
    Wolfpack Tower (1992)
Black Knight's Castle (1992; also called "Dungeon Master's Castle" in some early catalogues)
Black Knights Boat, Ghostly Hideout, and King's Archer (1993, purchased as the Value Pack)
    Magic Shop (1993)
    Dragon Wagon (1993)
    Fire Breathing Fortress (1993)
    Royal King (1995)
    Skeleton Surprise (1995)
    Royal Drawbridge (1995)
    Royal Knight's Castle (1995)
After 1995, I hit a less fun age and had to deal with being a teenager, thus I had to abandon the more important things in life, like collecting more Lego sets. I still have most of the pieces of my old sets. Maybe I'll rebuild them someday...

I recognize many of them in the 90´s the older ones here in scandinavia as well, and remember how they had a tv showing them built and like a small story about what it was about next to the box. loved toys r us back in the 90´s with N64 games being sold and a kiosk to test out new game for it as well.

@@nielspetit-jean3443 Lego has sadly skimped on base plates. I relied on them as a kid and my nephews also rely on them today. That's something sadly missing from sets today. Baseplates are a foundation for building, and so many sets today refuse to integrate them into sets to save a few cents...some sets use this lack of a baseplate decently well, such as the Star Wars Battle for Hoth (though the SW sets are not my favorites; i love classic castle and space), but I think something is lost without a full-sized baseplate.

I remember as a kid really wanting the yellow castle, but all I had was the knight's procession figures, so I made my own castle from random pieces, I was loaned a Polaroid camera to take a picture of it, which I still have. Later on I got the knight's castle, but the original yellow castle was still the best. A lot of these sets could fold out which was really cool.

They should bring this back, and make a set(s) that are a moderate-sized castle (maybe like the size of one of those 30-40$ sets?) for each faction, and also have siege weapons with each castle, so that you can take your knights and soldiers from say, the Black Falcon Castle set, and attacks the Fright Knight Castle set with them. Or something.

The 1984 set of my uncles I built many many times in the 90s (I’m born in 1991). I myself never got any big Lego set, but there was this 1984 castle with many missing parts, no instruction booklet, and only the cardboard package (back side only). I built the castle by looking at the picture (alternative version with open walls) only. Those pieces are the most nostalgic to me.
In 2022 they released a new castle set (for 400€).

Catapults siege weapons and breaching towels are you kidding me. Amazing. Nowadays when Lego makes a single castle if they ever pull their heads out of their butts for a second it will be a display set for adults with some functions and otherwise stand alone. And they expect and receive praise and standing ovations. Also price tag 600 bucks minimum as it's collectors.
