Getting the boys together for the biggest heist in human history
Man seeing all these 10+ years older sets being so much better than we got today makes me sad. Especially all those Castles, pirate ships etc
I bought Town more than Castle as a kid. Would have loved to have bought Forestmen sets. I was lucky to see a news story about the Forest Hideout GWP last year. Would be nice to see that for sale. I built a 2x size Blacksmith Shop, which I love. Get that before it retires next year. I've bought several Creator 3-1 castles to make a Rebrickable castle, and did a MOC of the Ideas Treehouse as a Forest Guardian HQ. I don't have the budget for Lion Knight's Castle (90th anniversary) or Rivendell, but those are certainly better than anything from the past.
I always got the castle and space sets.
The packaging used to be sooo cool. Lego please bring that back
ikr the 18+ style black packaging makes every theme look the same and basic
Late 1990s and early 2000s were my childhood years. Adventurers, Rock Raiders, Knights Kingdom I, and Alpha Team were all so fun to build and play with! Before licensed themes took over 😂
@6:15 man, those sets defined my childhood, i still remember going to Toys R us, 7 years old in 1989 and buying it with birthday gift money.
And the brochures that came with them inspired the collection to create your own battle. Iconic indeed. Amazing. Thanks for the dose of nostalgia.
So much nostalgia in this video, really took me back to my youths playing with knights kingdom, exo-force, star wars and indiana jones 🥲
Received my first set of Legos in 1963. Still have them....
4:34 I don't know about this specific set, but I do know that the concept of LOGO was huge in UK schools the 80s, and although I never got to use this we did have a more robotic style version. For those that don't know, LOGO is a beginners graphical programming language, where you type commands such as FD 80 and RT 90 which would Forward Draw a line and Right Turn 90 degrees. This was visualised both on screen and by plugging a "Turtle" (a dome shaped robot with wheels for the version I used) into a computer. It was great fun!
Goodness me, that place looks like heaven! Oh what I wouldn’t give to check out a place like that
1989 El Dorado Fortress was my favourite set as a kid. Absolutely amazing to see one in a mint box instantly brought me back in time to the moment I bought it in toysRus
Definitely get the remake of the set then, which most likely will be Lego Icons set 10320.
I could spend weeks going through the 90s & early 2000s sets. What a time it was
What a time to be a kid
Talk about being a kid in a candy shop.
being a kid a a lego shop
Fr man
Been in a lego store once, smaller than typical large retail stores, but better selection and the latest sets.
Except you just look at the candy and never taste any.
I remember the late 1990s to early 2000s, as it was some of my absolutely best childhood memories. I remember when my mother gave me several LEGO Ninja sets from 1998-1999, oh man I wish I could travel back in time to those years! :3
This new space is so much nicer than the old dooms day bunker. I love watching these archive videos, your knowledge is so extensive, thanks for taking the time to put this video together for all of us that will likely never get to see this amazing collection in person.
While it looks nicer, I doubt all that UV from the sunlight will be good for condition of the boxes in the long run.
As a kid 1998 was a standout year because I LOVE Adventurers, Extreme Team, and Stingrays.
Nice to see everything arranged much more neatly and spacious than the old basement. Are there any significant sets/items missing from the archives?
I think the Archive is missing some old and quite rare promotional sets like the Toy Fair 2005 Vader Gala set and the 2015 H.C. Andersen's Clumsy Hans set. and I also believe they are missing polybags and keychains.
Also looks like its missing some GWPs, a few Exoforce, Bionicle and employee exclusives like the xmas tie fighter.
Did not see Automatic Binding Bricks at the beginning of the archive. Is it not considered Lego?
Screw a bank heist, lets set up a lego vault heist! I want ALL the classic town/System sets😁
This place brings tears to my eyes… 😭😭
It really is beautiful…
6:55 This brings back so many memories. For my 10th birthday I got the Governor's Fortress. My mum bought it a couple of weeks beforehand and hid it in her wardrobe. I used to sneak in and open the flap to look at the minifigs every day or so. I even remember sneaking my gran in to show her too 😂I think she kept it a secret! Awesome seeing it again and the layout of the pieces brought it all back.
Oh my !! They still exist 🤩
They should bring back the flip up lids on boxes ..... pure nostalgia 💯
Modern lego sets are lame, just as their designers
I was really into the Lego city-style sets. Two of my absolute favorites were the Space Shuttle/Launch Tower (Set 1682) and the Coastal Rescue Base (Set 6387). My parents didn't have a lot of money, so these two sets were like the holy grail for me when they bought them. I believe the Space Shuttle was close to $100 back when it first came out. The first set I bought with my own money was the Cycle Fix-It Shop (Set 6699). I think it was around $10-$12 brand new. I was excited because I took some money I earned to the grocery store and bought it. Now, I am really big into the 18+ sets including Star Wars (including the Falcon, Razor Crest, Star Destroyer, AT-AT), the 90th Castle set, and several other big sets in various themes...they make great displays. I have a huge backlog of sets to build...great way to forget the outside world for a few hours.
This was a wildly exciting trip down memory lane. All of the Lego sets from 1989 are insanely evocative of childhood. Medieval, Pirate and Space Lego all the way.
Wow…. The nostalgia. That 6098 set. I never thought id see that cover picture again in my life.
Also had a few of those jack stone sets and boy was i confused as a kid trying to integrate that in with my OG lego. Had no idea what was going on.
I still have many of those big sets you showed from the 80s and 90s inside a huge Rubbermaid container. Great memories.
Hard to see how many people can touch those gems without any control, gloves or something like that. Just the fact that you take some boxes with one hand control… hard to see honestly. Best proof is the condition of the 6285´s box.
Hope that Lego has duplicates of every box well protected.
You are lucky ! Thanx for sharing.
The way he jammed back in some of the boxes made me cringe
At the end of the day, its just an object and they are there for the public to handle and view and admire them as they are meant to be. What is the point of idolizing the condition of something like its some idol or something when you can never actually use or touch it?
Many special sets, Castle 1984, Shell Garage 1984 also, trains, pirate ship technic, airport, houses cars, so so many to remember, delighted to say I still have many of them, and a lot of the modern era sets. I could spend another childhood in there. Joyous, you can never have enough of Lego.
The 90s sets were the best. when i enter the lego stores now, at best 3 sets a year attract my attention and those were sets like Lions Knights Castle, Barracuda Bay and Rivendel. Hoping Lego goes back to their roots with adventureres, pirates, wild west and castle. Skull eye schooner rerelease would be beautiful homage
The building bricks of Lego, pieces of their history.
Haha punny
Classic Space was my favorite. Plus the OG technic sets.
I wish they would bring more back into stores. Great sets will never be made again
Thank you for the video !😍
22:45 Indiana Jones and 2008 Agents. Seeing those sets and boxes of sets I had in childhood brought something back I haven't felt in a long time.
Best rows: 80s & 90s
Is this an invite only ? I would love to just walk through that archive for hours.
not sure how i missed this vid, sick!!
This was a joy to watch. Would love to spend some time in that room
Amazing!
Amazing and very nostalgic video.
I'm offended you walked right past the Imperial Trading Post. Right in your face 😆
Barracuda Pirate Ship --> check
Forrest men hideout --> check
Imperial fort --> check
Gosh I am old!
Still have some figures from the yellow castle
Awesome! The 2008-2012 are was amazing :)
I really love the old Lego packaging and boxes. You could lift up the flap and see what's inside without even leaving the store! Nowadays you have to damage the box to get what's inside :(
My all time favorites are the castles, the ships and the neon green underwater sets. I remember seeing the toys r Us display for the under water set at my local toys r Us. Always wanted the whole set.
Lego Mars Mission is one of my absolute FAVORITE adventures! I still have the Mars base and rocket set up to this day!
OMG. i had that Mtron vehicle! I didnt even remember it until i saw you display it right now. What a blast from the past!
Such a cool video. Some of my first sets were the early space sets like the dart and the uranium search vehicle. My faves were the city airport and the monorail space set!! Now I have sooo many unbuilt sets I could start my own archive!!!
This video is incredibly difficult for me to watch because there are SO MANY things I want you to stop and look at for about 30 minutes each, and this video just skims over everything. We need a miniseries of videos on this archive, like 12 hours for every shelf where you interview Lego historians and old time Lego employees.
Agreed! We never have enough time to record these videos in the archive. Check out our previous two visits for a look at different items. (1) ruclips.net/video/EgFvzpB6BsQ/видео.html (2) ruclips.net/video/IBqoouwKZ1g/видео.html
Exactly, 2006-2014 had the best sets, from Fantasy Era Castle, Aqua Raiders, Star Wars, Kingdoms, etc. He literally skipped all the good sets
@@Shvetsario We'll agree to disagree on that. 😂
It’s really cool seeing some complete sets for pieces I had the bulk of but could never figure out how to put together because of a box full of hand me downs or garage sale LEGO but no manuals
Wow I forgot about a lot of those old sets I had as a kid. Amazing how far LEGO has come over the years. Seeing that sealed 8480 space shuttle was cool and my favorite. I only collect the Technic and lucky to have a lot of doubles of the older ones so I can build both A and B models.
Completely skipped over the best theme they ever did - Rock Raiders!
not only one..what about lotr, the pirates of the caribbean..he show us friends sets over the huge first ucs millenium falcon and much more great sets...to me best lego themes are from late 90s and early 2000s
Pirates of the Caribbean was one of the best, who cares about some lame duplo or friends sets
8:18 my man waltzed right by the real treasure, set 4558!
you should have highlighted events like change of logo, first minifig etc.
I know I ain't the only 80s kid who REALLY wanted that pirate ship. I forgot all about blacktron but I thought those were so dang cool back then.
Gosh the boxings were so incredible, all my memories!
early-mid 2000s very nostalgic
Wow. From 3:03 to 7:54 were the main sets I had as a kid. I had a few of those much smaller ones to add more to those sets, but those were the core of my collection. Wild to see them all in a row like that! I miss being able to open the flap to see what was inside. I sadly didn't collect much after that as a kid because my family ended up rather poor for a while, certainly not in the realm of affording lego sets. I never got any of the western sets, but I really really wanted them. Then 2008-13 is interesting for me to see, because that is when I started to work at legoland california! So I suddenly went from little lego exposure from maybe 2002, to suddenly knowing ALL the sets in 2010 onward.
My all-time favorite is 6273 Rock island Refuge from 1991. That was my first big set. Still got the parts at home! Including that huge baseplate! :D
5:50 I got for christmas, as I was a young child.
I can remember, as it was yesterday.
Wow!! That place is a paradise!!! Awesome!!
Btw I am from early 90s Pirate sets
Very cool to see!
Where there any Modulex as well, or did they omit that in the exhibition?
I had a big pirate ship and a castle in the early 90s as a kid …awesome stuff
Long time viewer and congratulations! I would think it to feel quite rewarding to LEGO your way to such a special place!
Great to see 2 youtube groups having fun in each others videos
magical place :)
A blast from the past
bro, thank you, this was a pleasant trip down memory lane of my childhood. I had the Ninja set that you showed with the tower and bridge from de 90's, but my frustrated dream was to the Dragon Castle from the 90's which I could spot in the shelves but you didn't show. I hope someday I will buy it to my son
15:17 calling the Slizers just Lego Technic made me cry so much
First reaction here: "Gasp" and some tears. Second reaction: "That must be uninsurable????"
The town square with the yellow castle front was my first Lego set and I still have all the pieces that didn’t break (the sign posts sadly did). Maybe I missed it but didn’t notice you mentioning the Elves, which just were gorgeous
Excellent 🥰👍😎
6285 was my childhood i want one again so bad!!
They should make this open to the public and charge us.
I would typically get 1 large Lego set for my bday every year & 1 for christmas too. I even had one of the early yellow brick Castle sets.
I want to see more old city sets.
If I could choose a location to be locked in solitary confinement for ten years, that actually wouldn't be enough time for me
It was fun seeing you take out the Black Knights Castle with the raised baseplate. That along with the Dragon Masters Fire Breathing Fortress was my childhood Castle theme. Mainly cause we couldn't afford to buy the later themes but still. It was great fun. Also the first Vulture Droid set from 98-99/2000 was the very first Star Wars sets that me and my brother got. We even got one each.
Thank you for the Tour of Nostalgia :)
Nice to see the new archive, much more open and light. Do they have UV blocking windows or so, they sure will not want to fade the colors when exposed to sunlight?
I remember being in the bunker below the Ideas House and had a talk with the archivars. They still hunt for many antique sets on Ebay, Craigslist and such. The collection back from these days unfortunately is not complete by far.
So jealous watching all of this...
Yeah. I’d absolutely lose my stuff in there! 😂
Lego needs to go back to making their packages with the flip open see through boxes. I bought the battle of helms deep set for my nephew on clearance at Walmart $90. When he opened it the box was filled with old rusted grill tools, a broken light bulb and some other trash. It was sealed back up perfectly. The Lego sealer tape looked untouched. If they had the see through package people wouldn't be able to do that.
I think that lego should bring back some if not most old sets back in better versions but mostly untouched
Shoutout to the throwbot sets. I still have mine. They were neat.
well i have the pirate ship also (you call them baracuda) and other pirates themes. also was the western cool set. also was few gas station action with football/soccer and that made really fun to have your own national teams
Pirate ship box on the title says it all 🥂
LEGO TC LOGO SET?!!
DESIGNED IN 87?!!
THE YEAR I WAS BORN?!
WHAT'S THE UNIVERSE TRYNA TELL ME?!!
Ahhh yeahh castles
I can just imagine how rare those wood lego toys are.. If there are 10 of each of those in the entire planet i would be really surprised.
I feel very lucky to still have my Imperial trading post and Fort Legoredo from my childhood.
The flap had definitely not already come off on that
He did seem pretty panicked when it happened 😂
That lego set at 10:50 I still have, couple peices from the arms are broken, and no longer have that playscape.
You should devote entire episodes for each Lego decade at a slower pace rather than the entire Lego history library jammed in one video. It would make more enjoyable and interesting.
Yes, we would like to do this exact concept. The problem is that we only had an hour during this visit. We hope to return soon!
Lego is the best as a kid it was my go too when playing this is like Lego heaven bro ❤❤❤❤
I was hoping to see the LEGO Elves, Mixels, and LEGO Dimensions since I’m just learning about them. Loved seeing the ones shown though. Never knew they made Bob the Builder sets. 😄
Whenever i hear bionicle i get goosebumps and start to cry
Fantastic video! Is there an archive book for sale?
9:57 I had 6493 Time Cruisers set as a kid! I think I still have all the pieces!
#WOW 😮
ok nostalgia hit me hard with that one
This is the definition of heaven! Are all of these sets open?
Sealed
