Performance Notes
Sometimes a song’s title speaks volumes all by itself, as “Loser” effectively demonstrates. In this case, that one word clues us in that the boast of the song’s gambling narrator that he’s “got no chance of losing this time” is nothing but delusional false bravado. “Loser” received its first live performance by the Grateful Dead on February 18th, 1971 - the opening night of a legendary six-show run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, during which the band premiered seven new songs that would all become mainstays in the repertoire. It was first released in recorded form on Jerry Garcia’s self-titled solo debut the following year. - Gary Lambert

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.
Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

Because it truly is an amazing song that any dead cover band like dead and co can play it, and it hides Mayer's idiotic guitar playing as well..
I think Bobby + Johnny (falsetto) is the closest lyrical combination to the old sound. They love each other - another good example
Bobby has really been doing a great job on a number of Jerry tunes as of late.

This is one of my favorite songs. I was really impressed with this version. Watching it while being high is even better.

All shows in Atlanta seem to be killer for Dead and Co. Perhaps it's the energy of John being "home" where his career took off.
This is probably Dead and Company's best version of this song. Makes it more special to watch it in HD. Thanks guys. A little under 4 months before I get to see these guys three times in a row. Long live the DEAD!

This was my first Grateful Dead/Dead and Co show..At the time I wasn't particularly fond of this song, but now I revisit this show all the time for this song. Cheers guys. Hope to see y'all at Truist Park this summer.
My favorite loser, which got me hooked on the song, was from the famous Cornell show. 5/8/77. Something about that solo just does me in every time.

@@tommysalami131 Jerry is a God. He PINCH HARMONICS THE WHOLE SOLO. If you aren't into Metal that is what Metal guys do to make that screeching sound. Loser a story of a gambler with many flaws. As such the Solo should also be off kilter, off beat, screeching, whiney. Why Jerry is one of if not the Best at Emotional Soloists. When you listen to 5.8.77 you wonder is Jerry gonna make it? Almost seems like he is going off the rails. Man it is so good. Listen to it again. So perfectly "off" a wailing longingness. And every note is a pinch harmonic. You can tell when he switches it off in the last couple notes.
Mayer is really good. But even him not trying to Pinch Harmonic an entire solo just for the FEEL.
