77 was a great year for Jerry
Yes, and for the band in general
What was happening for that to happen?
@@steveparham8221 All his hard work coming to fruition. His chops were peak.
Absolutely!!
This song pertains to a man begging ppl for money because he's addicted to gambling. So he rigs a game and warns his lady not to get drunk cause they gotta wake up early and leave town before they realize he rigged the card game. Thank you Jerry.
I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines
Exactly
These songs have multidimensional meanings and pertain to many things as well!
And he probably lost the card game he rigged because he’s playing an inside straight…Loser.
It’s truly great! Even though it’s about gambling, I relate it to my addiction when I was getting high! ✌️💯
This version of this song moves me. What a great story brought back to life by the GD. There are a lot of spirited songs they brought back to life. I swear the folks who originally created them move thru Jerry and the boys and become magic once again.
Phil was totally killing it on bass in this one
I want this played at my funeral
I want Ripple
Me 2 if i have a funeral
I should have a funeral just to hear this song one last time…
this outta be studied at Oxford. The most insanely weird, wonderful loser ever
Me too...(sometimes)
Billy Boy is definitely the most underrated drummer 🤷🏼♂️
i would be inclined to agree
There will never be another Jerry.
that's unfortunately so true
The solo makes me feel like I'm an native american running straight at the grand canyon and when I dive head first over the edge, I feel like I transform into a bald eagle and fly away
Love you bro
LSD is bad
This is beautiful, Elizabeth
We're all there flying right, beside, you.
Let's do it
Never gets old
This song is sad but it makes me happy. The story of the "Loser" in the song personally makes me feel like i'm a winner because the "Loser" is always determined that they're going to win!
A passionate deadhead and dear friend has made many concert CDs available to me and this is one of the Epic shows
This song represents my life
73,77 & 79 are my favorite yrs in the 70's.
74 is fire
Love the videos of that Spring 77 run. If we only had one more... I love this!
Jerry pulled that solo straight out of his soul
As a recovering compulsive gambler I so relate to the song
Jerry wrings out all the tears, angst and pain of the gambler in every grand solo I've ever heard. Loser has always been a favorite, especially the play on the inside straight. A hand that never wins.
Put your gold money where your love is baby before you let my deal go down.
Come to daddy on the inside straight.
Well I got no chance of losing this time.
Very overlooked...... Inside straight
Thank God and thank YOU for taping these and sharing them! I’m in my seventies and am so happy for hearing and watching these early Dead shows before I die ❤️😎 especially Loser which I never heard at all before now! What an inspired song. I like all the comments here too from good people 😊😊😊 An amazing absolutely amazing song, and I dig how Jerry sings and plays it, like everything he did-RIP , angel ✨💫🌉🥰🌬🌊
Pure love to the Deadheads!
What about dreads Jah rastafari
This is a great Loser. Thanks for sharing 😊
Glad to see this back on RUclips! One of my favorite versions of this incredible tune
a band beyond description
Bravo!!!
"Bring the band down on behind me, boys." -FZ
Love the way Jerry "conducts" the group dynamics in the second or third verse. Takes it softer and quieter, and the band follows. Setting up for the next run to the top. It was fun to watch.
This is insane.
This is a rare tempo, none are like this.
Thank you for posting this! I love this era of the Dead, and I woke up with this song in my head today.
Winner
7/7/89
Jerry's solo.. looking over his right, smiling, than swinging to his left, locking eyes with Brent. They stare into space, Jerry smiles and produces easily one of his greatest solos of all time and questionably the best Loser ever.
7/7/89
One of the VERY RARE occasions where Phil loses his place (second half of the second time through the guitar solo). Good golly, he really IS human! :-)
Must have got stung by a bee or something
Jerry Garcia forever.
And Jerry sticks the landing... 👏👏👏👏🖐️

not enough visits but yes!! grateful still

Birthday show fuck yeah
Lou dog Sublime!
@@odemu2074 was wondering how long it would take for someone to recognize it
I wish 5 8 77 was real. The album is flawless. I listen to it every single time I go steelhead fishin. Which is 7 days a week weather permitting from oct till may.

whoa, I didn't know Bill Murry was the drummer for the dead before his acting carreer.
aaaaah The Pre Unstrung Out Daisy Duke not a grey hair on Jerry or Bobs head or beard before the bug eyed Bret era… gotta love it . Hell even Mickeys sportin a kewl mane of hair .
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😇😇😇 Jerry is a around us! Wish we could hit a button to go back and relive it again!
Bill is the biggest Deadhead of all time!
Keith & Donna
Donna gives me chills! I so wished I could have chilled with them and smoked some jack herer with them!
Bom demais. Staggering!
BAHAMADON this is completely!! Within the realm of possibility...
Otherworldly
Thumbs down huh? Thanks for listening yo!
Jerry Garcia comin right tbrough lol... ..
Garcia would be appalled by the price for tickets in Vagas sphere
Seriously an add before the bone chilling solo … brah I’ve seen so much life with the Grateful Dead by my side in the parking lots in the forest so man roads !! Btw Donna dead wtf 🤬 just cause she banging some the guys
Meatball Mafia
Don’t misunderstand me… Been a deadhead for 45 years, but something’s not quite right here. 1977 was a good year (some legendary shows that spring). But this video and another one I saw from Wolfgang (Winterland, New Year’s Eve)… Jerry sounds horrible… I mean, like the mid-80’s onward. Are you sure this is from ‘77? Jerry’s voice wasn’t gone yet… but in THESE videos, it sure is. Also, the beginning of his solos… I know how they sound… era-by-era… this really sounds more like late 80’s, early 90’s… and somehow superimposed over the video. (?)
Charity always cries to the equal balance (I pissed away so much money on tobacco and still hasn't killed me , just another monkey doing the rag )
Jerry=Angel Visitation sent to us for awhile 🌉✨💫💕gracias😊
