Personally I love these types of amps. The less polite the amp, the better in my opinion.
VHTs are basically Hiwatts with a modern voicing....and I love them for it. It's like having the gain control merged with your picking hand.
Fryette are My favorite guitars amps,, and I've played all the top tier amps. Another one I like a lot of the SLO100
You're understanding on tone and amps is acute; never seen it from any other youtuber. I'd love to see a "Sounds Like" session where you utilise your colossal collection to replicate famous guitar tones. That would be interesting. Keep it up.
Not a bad idea!
One of the best amps money can buy. I have owned mine for over 20 years. Cuts through in a mix extremely well. Driftwood, Vht, and Diezel are my favorite amps. Great video Kyle . Sounds killer. 🤟
Thanks man! And congrats on owning one of the best out there!
The vid you made a few years ago putting the CL up against the UL was what made me go with the CL.
I play a lot of “death metal” so I’m into that Engl E570/Dual Rec thick tone. For me, this is by no way my favourite amp as a main , but boy oh boy, this is THE best “blending” amp for adding to my main tone. (Green channel).
The CL’s transient/percussiveness is second to none. This is where the CL shines. It’s woody and quick. I’m damn sure VHT stands for “Very High Transients”.
Les Paul in drop C + VHT Pittbull = the fucking heaviest tone in the universe.
Probably the best high gain head other than a SLO head the VHT stuff built buy Fryette are amazing.
I played an SLO for years and years. Lost a job and had to sell it. Decided to go a different route and got a 100CL. I prefer it to the Soldano. I stupidly sold the CL, but I’ve been playing a Deliverance 120 for several years, now, and that amp will never be sold! I also have a Soldano Hot Rod 50+. Searching for another CL50/100 now.
Love SLO100, but if I had to choose, Fryette would be my keeper.
The Matt Damon of guitar!
Back in '91 I had both the Pitbull Classic (EL34) and the Pitbull Ultra Lead (6550) heads. I regret getting rid of them.
I didn't know Matt Damon played Thrash. J/k. Thank you for another awesome production/great content. Becoming a big fan.
Appreciate it man! Matt Damon headbangs
Thrash Damon
Sounds absolutely monstrous! Very dry and specific drive, definitely recognizable. I think a famous user of an explorer + VHT Pittbul is the singer of Daughters of Mara.
Steve Fryette is the GOD of TONE
Absolutely agree!!!
the Studio in the end absolutely obliterated the Explorer
There is an almost Fender/Hiwatt/Plexi type of clang/twang in this amp’s voicing. I could hear a real good Malcolm Young sound coming out of the lowest gain setting you had it at. Kachang!
Interesting you should say that, apparently Steve Fryette has said that the foundations of VHT/Fryette Pittbulls are the Hiwatt DR103 and DR504, obviously modified for heavy gain.
My Fryette Sig X does a great Marshall AC/DC tone.better than my JVM did. In fact I sold my JVM after getting a Sig X.
I have owned this amp. And yes, it is a beast. No boost necessary.
That's the best tone you've demoed so far IMO. It's actually the best tone I've ever heard. I like how it sounds with your playing. It sounds raw and authentic from the 80s and early 90s. It doesn't sound like that over polished garbage that's been released in later albums
Awesome. Nice job man. I agree, the EQ sliders are not necessary. I think the guys that say "you gotta have them!" Just think that they need to be there because MESA mark series amps have them. And they probably don't really know what an active EQ does anyway
One way to utilise the EQ is take ALL the bass frequencies out before and within the filth then use the EQ after to put the bass frequencies back in undistorted and clear 👍
Owned a CLX and sold it to help fund a Herbert MK3 and as much as I love the Herbert I wish I would of kept the CLX as well
I could see that for sure
I have one of these, super underrated in my view, my favorite amp to play through and I own a bunch. Definitely needs a boost to get in the right ballpark for my taste, but I don't bother with the graphic EQ.
Pitbull 60s are such a cool amps. Id like to hear the clean sound turned up all the way to get that powertube compression. One great pedal for a lead boost that is perfect for this amp. You run a DOD BiFet preamp from the 90s through the paralell loop. It is seamless. When i got mine i got NOS. I was suprised by the build. Solid metal. I got mine for $60. Now they are probably $200 or something because of inflation. Perfect lead solution😊
Cool man , I own this exact amp ,mine is a 2006 before Steve Fryette sold the VHT trademark , it’s loaded with EL34 power tubes ... I bought it used in perfect condition from Guitar center about 10 years ago
. Personally I like the green channel the best , it is like a Hot Rodded Marshall, I think it sounds best with the boost , edge and shift engaged.
I like to run it without the high gain dip switch on , less compression , it’s more full in my opinion . I like to use the EQ , but barely moving the sliders for the mids up ever so slightly , for the clarity , the presence about 1 o’clock and the depth almost all the way up.
Treble at 2:30 , mids at 3 bass on 10 , the gain at believe or not 10:30 or 11. I use a DOD EQ PEDAL in front of the amp/6 band and it’s a must for me .I have my Maxon overdrive as well and it roars to life . I like using the red channel for a clean sound and switch back and forth . I love the effects loop and all my pedals , delays, chorus and verb , especially on the clean or red channel .
I had it up for sale on the marketplace for a while , had a few sniffs but no money where I wanted to be . This was a $3k new , I got it for a steal back then , in my mind . It’s perfect , not a scratch ...
With that said I’m currently not using it , I love my boogie , btw my band does original hard rocking / metal music , I will say I would love to use both , my boogies effect loop isn’t as good as the VHT in my opinion , the cleans from the VHT ARE BETTER FOR SURE . Of course we are talking 6L6 versus EL34s so it depends on what you personally like . Honestly I love both . I also just snagged a MT15 from PRS . Love Tremonti’s tone , clean and dirty . In my opinion the MT15 sounds almost identical to my boogie .... last thing cabinets make all the difference as much as amps and guitars , I have A Mesa over sized cab with vintage 30’s , a Marshall with 25 watt greenbacks , another Marshall 300 watts with 75 watt Celestions, a Carvin with Vintage 30’s and a Randall with 65 watt Jags
Try as many as you can with the same amp set up , speakers make a major difference ..combing them does as well .......
THR 10x. From Yamaha , killer desktop amp , I play it more than anything !🎸🤟🏻🎸🤟🏻🎸🤟🏻🎸
Awesome video , about time someone went deep into the VHT PITTBULL 100CL, keep rocking !
Static X guitarist used this amp and their guitar sound was HUGE! I wondered how much of that was through a good engineer and magical eqing so I had to see this video to find out. I didn't think such a cheap amp could be responsible for the crazy powerful sound you hear from Static X. It's actually a pretty good sounding amp.
18:47 killer tone
Professor Thrashy "the bull" Damon ALWAYS demoing the best amps
I love this amp. I also love the Soldano Hot Rod 100 Plus
I love that amp. I had one and lobd it, but a bit too dry for me. Personal preference. It really works well with an overdrive or boost. I hear guys saying no boost necessary, but I feel differently. I love how a boost or OD helps you shaper the gain and character of the amp, regardless of the gain!
I also had an ST50 and UL. UL way too dry.
The Sigx is incredible and too. Takes boosts and ODs too.
I have the Sig X. I will never sell it. When I want that Mesa chug, I run my Mesa duel rec preamp into effects return of the Sig and I'm throwin flame. I can get almost any tone in spades with that amp.
Dang! That is one mean, snarling Pitbull! Oh yeah. And dude, you do NOT suck. Stop that! But I know what you mean. I am always my worst critic. That just means you care about what you play and constantly getting better and growing as a guitarist. Keep it up bro!
I had a CL100 a few years back that did not have the eq. I had no complaints about it not having an eq. Nobody else that heard it said it would better with an eq either lol. I should have never gotten rid of it. Instant regret. Big and extremely clear sounding. They have gotten extremely expensive these days.
Yup. A Pittbull ULTRA-LEAD was my main amp for a number of years from 2003 to 2010 when I sold it. Bought it minty for 1600. Canadian. Lol
Nice! Amp sounds great. Keep up the great videos!
Thank you!
I love the sound of this amp. There is someone not too far from my city with a Fryette Pitbull Ultra Lead for sale I have been curious to check out.
Do it! You may love it!
UL is a great amp. I really do enjoy mine. A lot of great tones and not only the metal ones.
I'm a metalhead but that amp makes me want to buy a telecaster for those edge-of-the-breakup/low-gain tones. The dynamics is awesome.
And the clean channel is very very nice, too.
I have the version with EQ and I since the Rhythm and Lead share one set of knobs, I set up the lead tone just using the tone stack and then for rhythm tone I engage the EQ to tame the bass.
I use straight VHT 4x12 Fatbottom and that cab has loads of lowend but quite controlled.
I have been waiting for a in depth video on the 100CL great job!
How does the CL compare to the UL?
Sounds pretty pretty pretty damn good...kinda lost me when the Explorer let, nothing against the LP. Just something about that Explorer!! Another indepth with Thrash Damon!!
When did Matt Damon start doing guitar gear demos on RUclips?
was thinking the same thing
He is Matt Damon's little brother. Which is how he can afford to buy all this stuff.
Your awesome brother. Appreciate your videos.
Thanks so much, Jason! Appreciate it!
Save the EQ as a lead boost.
Sounds surprisingly good very tight. Never heard this amp played before. now I want to find one.
Why surprisingly ? It's one of the most higly regarded brands. I believe soldano once said he doesn't make poweramps because there are already VHTs, tells how good he thinks they are !
The VHTs started to get kinda obscure in mid-00s, later Steven Fryette himself sold the name trademark and returned to a more "boutique" production model with all the same technology.
I.e. The VHTs everyone knew are now manufactured and sold under "Fryette" name/brand.
The graphic eq is extremely sensitive in these amps. You gotta know how it works to get the best out of it.
Killer tones. Reminds me mesa mark v
Hey Kyle, Love your show. I owned a 2004 Pitbull and I'm wondering which modern amp that's actually available since Pitbulls are not comes closest to that VHT sound?
I believe The Offspring recorded with these for years
Helmet tones cult eternal!
Great sound! Really Great!
It's too bad you're clipping your audio interface!
I've been thinking about getting this amp. How's it compare to the Omega in your opinion? Kinda reminds of the Omega
Truthfully, they sound and feel nothing alike, IMO. The VHT is dry, ultra tight, more low mid heavy. The Omega is saturated, also tight but in a bouncier way, and way more mid content. More modern overall
@@belligerentamateur thank you! 😁
I played through one of these heads once. I found it to be very unforgiving. I felt like I was fighting the amp. Mostly because of my abysmal technique, but still not enjoyable for me. Just not my thing I guess.
nice shirt dude! \m/
Awesome amp 👌 👏, great demo , don' t be shy , play more , talk less 😀. I believe we all equally enjoy good riffs to solos , play on bud ! Wouldn't mind if you squeezed some artificial harmonics 😈
l"ve got the Ultra Lead Killer Amp!
What pickup in the bridge? Magnets and resistance?
Really like the Pitbull dry sound and thick tone. What is your opinion on the closest amp currently in production that compares to this?
Splawn for sure at least. Dry, thick and unforgiving :)
There is a CL100 pittbull without the band-eq. Can someone tell me what is up with these amps and to they sound the same ?!
I own a non eq version. I’ve been using the red channel with the mxr m77 in front of the amp for a few years now. While at home, I turn off the overdrive and just use the amp and then I noticed how horrible I play.
haha, yes, this one is tough to play without some hot pickups or an OD
Is this video clipping all over the place for anyone else or is something broken with my set-up?
Where is the Quad captures?
I don't care about the cleans either!
my man
Noice!
what are the settings at 10:32 ?
How its compare to ul with eq?
These are like the Laney's of the 90s a great raw amp
Can somepone please tell me , what's the difference between this and the deliverance?
Many differences, they're 2 completely different circuits
@@belligerentamateur I been wanted to get the latest version of fryette is 2100 dls in ebay new and the only model they have is the deliverance, that's why I ask, because apparently the deliverance is a monster also but I wanted to see the differences.
vs with audio assault bulldog Now please
How do you like it compared to the 50 CL?
They sound about the same, just no EQ on the 50
😆 it's the when you said " because we're not little stupid weak idiots " 🤣 😂 😆
While flexing ! 💪 😂 🤣
Sounds balls but its even more balls in person u did well to make it sound slightly less balls
I haven't commented in a few months.. thanks incarceration. Anyway.. this is a dream amp for sure. P.s. Get some sun wonderbread! 😀
Working on it, I'm Scottish. Give me some slack. Lol
The ultra lead is better.
Why using OD whike demoing an amp ? It's stupid...
And how do you suppose to understand how an amp sounds with a boost, if you don't use a boost?
@@JohnWiku Simple : amp don't need a boost.
@@dafxtone Some like it some don't. Don't pretend you can't understand anything.
@@dirtyandnasty9011 Not a matter of understanding, a matter of rationality.
Would have been nice to hear some chords ringing out instead of the incessant spastic thrash riffs. I had to stop watching halfway through the video.
